The Edo State Chairman of the People's Democratic Party PDP, Tony Aziegbemi has declared that and Governor Godwin Obaseki and all his loyalists were set to join the party.

This is coming few days Mr Godwin Obaseki was disqualifiedd from being fielded in the upcoming All Progressive Congress Primaries for the Edo State Governorship Election this September.

The Chairman of Edo PDP said  Obaseki’s deputy, Philip Shuaibu, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter would also defect.

The party leader made the disclosure in an interview with NAN on Monday in Benin.

Aziegbemi said the governor, “his deputy and the entire APC structure in the state will be joining PDP soon”.

The chairman disclosed that they have been in touch “in the last few days”.

Aziegbemi assured that by Tuesday, he would “be able to confirm the exact date he (Obaseki) will be joining, along with his team.”

He added that he was not “aware that the governor has obtained our party’s membership card.

“I can also say that there is no automatic ticket in the offing for him at all”, Aziegbemi said.

AUTHENTIC NEWS GIANT also learnt that the Mr Obaseki has visited the Rivers State Governor Mr Wike and also his Akwa Ibom counterpart Udom Emmanuel.

The Rivers State Governor Barr. Nyesom Wike has berated the Nigeria Governors Forum calling them a toothless bull dog.

In a Statement Signed by the Rivers state commissioner for Information and communication, Paulinus Nsirim and received by AUTHENTIC NEWS GIANT it reads:

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike says the Nigeria Governors Forum has become a toothless bulldog because it has lost focus on its role in defending the rule of law in the country.

Governor Wike said the Forum used to be non-partisan and a powerful voice on national issues.

He noted that since the All Progressives Congress (APC) took over the leadership of the body in 2015, Governors have turned to beggars.

The governor made the assertion at media parley that held at Government House, Port Harcourt.

"Before 2015, the Governors Forum used to be very powerful as symbols of their respective states but APC killed it because they were protecting the interest of the ruling Party.

"During of one of the rerun elections in this state, my security aides were withdrawn thus exposing me to danger, the Forum did not say anything because the Chairman was a member of APC.

" I told them then that what they were doing was wrong. Now they have become a Beggars Forum even when there are constitutional infractions.

"You can see that APC Governors say that they are progressive. You can see how progressive they are when they keep quiet when a fellow sitting governor is disqualified from contesting elections.

" Adams Oshiomole campaigned for Governor Obaseki four years ago. The same man has turned around to say that Obaseki has a defective certificate.


"Has Oshiomole apologised to Nigerians that he supported someone with a defective certificate? Who is saying that a sitting governor has a defective certificate? Is it a man that does not have a certificate?

" Oshiomole should be told to practice what he preaches.

" APC wants to perpetrate impunity in Edo State the way they unleashed terror in Rivers State in 2019.

"They think because they have the Army, Police and INEC they can do anything and get away with it.

"They tried it in Rivers State but God gave us the will to say no. I hope Edo people will also say no to their impunity," he stated.

Speaking on Governor Obaseki's planned defection to PDP, Governor Wike said he would be happy to receive him.

He however, said that he would not guarantee automatic ticket for him because Edo people would decide.

"Edo PDP have a role to play. There is nothing like endorsement. But I must tell you that I am not happy the way he was disqualified by the APC because it will affect his integrity, "he said.

The governor debunked insinuations made by the State Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association(NMA), Dr. Obelebra Adebiyi about the State's response towards COVID-19 and said the State Government has given the Ministry of Health all that it requires to fight the pandemic.

The governor stated that the increasing number of Covid-19 cases results from more testing conducted on persons and Obelebra who is in charge of the state treatment centre cannot politicise the fight by creating unnecessary panic to score cheap political points.

Earlier the week the Presdiential Villa in Aso Rock Abuja was perturbed by gunshots which emanated from loggerheads between Muhammadu Buhari's wife Aisha Buhari and President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Assistant, Sabiu Yusuf.

Recall that First Lady, Aisha Buhari had cried out over the arrest and detention of her Aide-de-camp by the Inspector-General of Police.

The Presidency said President Muhammadu Buhari says the law should be allowed to take its course.

The shooting which involved the Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, her children and some Presidential aides has since generated a lot of reactions from Nigerians.

The Presidency, in a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said that President, Muhammadu Buhari was not in danger, adding that the incident happened outside the main residence of the president.

According to him, “The Presidency wishes to acknowledge concerns expressed by several members of the public regarding the recent incident among the occupants of the State House which escalation led to the arrest of some staff by the police.

“This is to assure all and everyone that the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari, is not, and was not at any time in any form of danger arising, either from deadly infections or the reported incident by security personnel which is currently under investigation.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has given update of how Schools will run as plans are be made to reopen schools.

The Education sector has been on total closure ever since the pandemic became stiffer.

Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, disclosed that federal government was considering morning and afternoon classes when it reopens schools across the country.

Nwajiuba made the disclosure while speaking at the daily press briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja.




He explained that the government could not afford to risk the safety of students across the country.

“We may have classes in the morning and classes in the afternoon so that we will have the whole of the infrastructure divided provided they can serve us.

“I am not sure we will have classes at night. But we can do with morning and afternoon for now,” he said.


The Minister said the decision was based on advice from experts as well as those of the World Health Organisation, WHO.

Recall that the minister had last week assured Nigerians that Federal Government was working towards reopening schools amid the pandemic.

Almajiri system in Kano State has been abolished by the current Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

The system encourages parents to leave parental responsibilities to the attached Islamic school.

Ganduje, who was briefing the media on the state of the COVID-19 in Kano on Wednesday, insisted that the system of Almajiri system has been totally abolished in the state.

The Government explained that if an Almajiri system would be allowed in Kano, there are guidelines which if followed they will allow for it to continue.

The guidelines according to the Governor include having a curriculum that tallies with a formal school system, there must be a provision for Almajiri in terms of their full shelter, foods, clothing and all other necessary livelihoods.

Ganduje added that if Almajiri system will continue, there must be qualified teachers who will be certified by the government through test and examinations.

“If these guidelines are strictly followed and abide by, then we will allow the system to fully operate in Kano,” Ganduje assured.

This is coming few days the manufacturers were asked to submit samples to the appropriate agencies for verification and testings.

Meanwhile out of the numerous claims of COVID-19 herbal cure 3 have been validated and forwarded to relevant authorities.

The Chairman of the Task force, Boss Mustapha made the announcement while briefing journalists in Abuja.

He said the validation was made by the Federal Ministry of Health after holding a virtual meeting with Nigerian Researchers and Scientists.

A 3 Day global Prayer has been declared by the Indigenous people of Biafra IPOB to honour its fallen heroes and heroines who made the supreme sacrifice towards the actualization of the republic of Biafra.

The prayer has been scheduled to start from the 27th of May and End on the 30th of May 2020.

Previous years since the renewed stance to restore Biafra, the group has been observing Sit at home protest but this year It said there would not be the usual sit- at -home or indoors as her people stayed much days at home during the coronavirus lockdown.

In a statement on Tuesday from the Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB revealed that the celebration would start and end with prayers, with candle processions at every state, Local Government Area, ward and church across the region.

The group urged Biafrans both home and in the diaspora to observe the celebration.

The statement read in part, “We, the global and indefatigable family of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the prophet and liberator of our time, wish to announce to the people of Biafra, friends of Biafra, enemies of Biafra, lovers of freedom, as well as the world that Biafrans will remember and commemorate our fallen heroes and heroines who made the supreme sacrifice for us to live , on 30th of May 2020.

“After much consideration and deliberations IPOB high command decided to urge Biafrans both home and in the diaspora, observe this year’s rememberance and celebration of our brothers and sisters who were killed and starved to death during the genocidal war on the peaceful land of Biafra by Nigeria government and her foreign allies including Britian, Egypt, USSR and Czechs Republic between 1967 and 1970, through fasting and prayers. The programme for this year’s event, will last for three days from 27th to 30th of May, 2020.
