October 2020 as it may can never be forgotten so quickly by Nigerians as the pains that runs the mind flashes the Lekki Toll Gate Massacre or should I say a Genocide.

It was definitely a stressful day for me at work as I combined office jobs and frequent check on social media to see what was happening at the ENDSARS Protest ground in Lekki, Alausa and other parts of Nigeria.

Not until after I was about leaving the office I got a notification from my Twitter app that the light were being shut off and Cameras uninstalled from the Lekki Protest ground.

Hurriedly I checked other sources and I was able to confirmed that Bullets were raining from left right and centre already at the Lekki Protest ground.

When I began hearing all these sounds of heavy shooting directed at peaceful unarmed protesters I came under aggrieved and accumulated anger over the onslaught that is being meted on innocent civilian demanding for their rights.

The Universal Declaration of Human Right UDHR made provision for every human to voice out his expression and also the Nigeria Constitution has it that every citizen or group has the right to protest.

When the Bullets were hammering the spines of my ears I couldn’t hold it when I saw a Nigerian Youth Killed holding the Nigerian Flag. The Nigeria flag was soaked with his own blood. RIP.

This was a genocide meted on the futures of Nigeria Tomorrow and I wonder if we were in the Military rule or even in the Banana Republic.

Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Campaign Council for Edo Election says the electoral victory of Governor Godwin Obaseki has ended godfatherism in Edo State.

Governor Wike made the assertion at a press conference in Benin City shortly after the declaration of Governor Obaseki as the winner of Edo Governorship Election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).


Governor Wike acknowledged that Edo people spoke vehemently with their votes by re-electing Governor Obaseki.

He noted that with the outcome of the election, Edo people would no longer put their fate in the hands of one man.

" If for nothing, we have made the point that there is nothing called godfatherism again in Edo state politics.

" I thank Governor Obaseki for volunteering to be used to fight for the interest of Edo State," he said.

The Governor thanked members of the PDP National Campaign Council and those who also served in the Edo Campaign Committee for the sacrifices made.

He said the two groups synergised to achieve the electoral victory for the Party.


"I want to particularly thank my colleagues, the Governors of Delta State, Oyo State and all other persons who served in the National Campaign Council. We succeeded working as a team.

"Let me also thank the Governor of Edo State. He gave us the necessary support that has led to this victory.

"Also, we thank all those who worked in the campaign train in Edo State. We also appreciate the Media for the positive coverage of the election," he stated.

The re-elected Governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki said the collective will of Edo people made the electoral victory possible.


"Edo people have spoken and they have spoken loud and clear. We thank God Almighty and give Him all the glory for this victory.

"The collective will of Edo people made it possible for us to triumph over godfatherism.

"Our success has reinforced my belief that there is nothing we cannot achieve as a people. This is because we pulled forces together and collectively called on God for support.


Governor Obaseki thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for ensuring that INEC and the Security Agencies performed their functions.

On behalf of his Deputy, Governor Governor Obaseki reiterated his commitment to make Edo State great again.

Oshiomhole Lost his Chairmanship seat and now has lost edo

The Incumbent Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has won  Osagie Ize-Iyamu in the 2020 Edo state Governorship Election.

This is the second time Obaseki will be defeating Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

With A wide margin of  84,233 the Obaseki won the Election.

Governor Obaseki was returned elected after polling the highest number of votes in the keenly-contested poll conducted on Saturday.

INEC Returning Officer for the poll declared the governor as the winner on Sunday at the office of the electoral umpire in Benin City, which doubled as the final collation centre.

The governor secured 307,955 of the total votes, 84,336 more votes than his closest rival Ize-Iyamu, who got 223, 619 votes.

A total of 14 political parties fielded candidates to jostle for the office of the governor in the state.

It is the first governorship poll to be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) since the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.

While it held in some places in line with the COVID-19 protocols of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the compliance level was very low in other polling areas.

The announcement by the returning officer follows the collation of the results from all the 18 Local Government Areas of Edo where the election was conducted.

Governor Obaseki’s victory comes on the back of a tensed and heated electioneering process that saw him dump the APC after being disqualified from the primaries, join the PDP and overcome stiff opposition and criticism by members of his former party, including former ally and his predecessor Adams Oshiomhole.

It was a dramatic process that saw Obaseki run a governorship race against Ize-Iyamu for a second time in four years.

Both men faced each other in 2016, albeit with Obasek flying the flag of the APC and Ize-Iyamu flying that of the PDP.

A political rift between the governor and Oshiomhole which spiraled beyond the state to national politics, saw both men switch parties and square up against each other on platforms they once criticised.

The campaign, characterised by drama and controversy that did not spare the State House of Assembly, was tempered by the intervention of the Oba of Benin to calm fears that the poll could turn violence heightened.

A peace accord was also signed by all the candidates days before the poll as stakeholders made concerted efforts to ensure a successful poll.

Preliminary reports from some electoral observers have held that it was mostly peaceful and largely free and fair.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to verbal attacks he received from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for endorsing Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the forthcoming election in Edo.

Buhari wondered why the PDP, which, according to him, has been “struggling to clear its name from alleged deals with the underworld in Dubai and the United States” has found the voice to attack the anti-corruption war of his administration.

In a statement received by AUTHENTIC NEWS GIANT on Saturday signed by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Buhari noted that his endorsement of Pastor Ize-Iyamu, who he described as a dashing candidate for the governorship election has angered the opposition party.

According to the President, the PDP has easily forgotten its own history and antecedents and has decided to point at the faults of others, ranting against the present administration’s war against corruption and alleging its failure.

According to Buhari, “Let PDP first withdraw the governorship nominations it gave to Ahmadu Fintiri and Bala Mohammed of Adamawa and Bauchi States respectively, before it opens its mouth and talk on the efforts of this administration in fighting corruption. Or else, it should shut its mouth forever and leave us to do what it dares not attempt.

“Both PDP governors were actually on bail from criminal trial on several counts of fraud and embezzlement.”

Speaking on the case of Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Bauchi State, the Presidency recalled that the anti-graft agency was arraigned on a six-count charge bordering on abuse of office, false declaration of assets and fraud to the tune of N864 million.

Among other claims, the Presidency noted Bala, while in office as minister allegedly received N550 million as bribe from Aso Savings and Loans Limited with respect to some properties in the Asokoro area of Abuja.

The Presidency noted that Ize-Iyamu was not the only one listed in that specific corruption allegation and being prosecuted by the EFCC, adding that he is being tried alongside former Deputy Governor, Lucky Imasuen, PDP Chairman in the State, Chief Dan Orbih, and other leaders of the party in the state, Tony Aziegbemi and Efe Erimuoghae, insisting that only the courts can convict.

The Presidency argued that Ize-Iyamu remains a suspect until conviction, advising the PDP to show examples by “withdrawing the nomination of their governors and the party’s numerous Senators and other legislators standing trial in various courts of the country.

The Presidency insisted that the PDP destroyed the country’s economy for sixteen years and so has no moral authority to criticize the current administration.

According to the Presidency, the Buhari sees corruption in the past governments and in its own administration and is fighting it with equal gusto.

It said for this singular reason the PDP cannot be placed on the same scale with the Buhari government who, having had corruption as a way of life and Nigerians should learn to live with it.

“This clean-up drive by the President Buhari administration will only speed up with the ongoing investigations and trials.

“The current administration’s cleansing exercise of the government, politics and economy in line with the zero tolerance for corruption, will not be distracted.

Philip Shaibu, Deputy Governor of Edo state has revealed how Adams Oshiomhole the ousted Chairman of the All progressive Congress wanted to use him to impeach the Governor of Edo State Godwin Obaseki.

Philip Shaibu revealed that he fought for the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole.

He said it was the same way he will fight for Godwin Obaseki, and that his loyalty to the Governor is unwavering.

Shaibu stated this when he addressed reporters on Thursday, according to Channels Television, revealing how Oshiomhole wanted him to join the move to unseat Obaseki.

The Deputy Governor, who a few weeks ago defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, alongside his boss, said he begged Oshiomhole to let go of any grievance he had against Obaseki but the former labour leader went on with the battle.

“Oshiomhole wanted to use me to impeach the Governor knowing that I was closer to the members-elect as of that time and members of the State Assembly because I spent 8 years in the House of Assembly here and 18 months in the House of Reps and I have goodwill among the legislators because of my own style.

“And he wanted me to use the same member when they’re elected to remove the Governor and for me to be the Governor and I said no.

“And I said, If I didn’t betray Oshiomhole when I was given money and a plot of land in Maitama to sign his impeachment as at then, I will not betray my own Governor. I don’t have the tendencies.

The United State of America Africa Command has warned that the Islamic State and Al-Qaida terrorist groups are moving closely to take over the West African region after being displaced in Syria and Iraq, AUTHENTIC NEWS GIANT learnt.

Commander of the US Special Operations Command, Africa, Maj. Gen. Davin Anderson, noted that the extremist groups have begun deploying strategies to re-establish themselves in the region and expand further in the continent without drawing attention.

Speaking during a virtual media briefing with journalists on Tuesday, the commander disclosed that the Al-Qaida has expanded in Mali, and had moved into northern Burkina Faso, where they attacked infrastructure, took out local governance and security forces, and are now controlling the local economy and exerting control over the population.

He said, “We are seeing them continue to move further south in Burkina Faso towards those littoral nations in the Gulf of Guinea, and also further west towards Senegal and West Africa. So that’s a concern to us as we watch them continue to move throughout the region.”


He observed that some aggrieved local terrorist groups were being galvanized into a larger ideology and movement, stressing that al-Shabaab, an affiliate of al-Qaida, was already instigating instability in Somalia in order to destabilize the horn of Africa.

Anderson stated that the extremist group is exploiting the humanitarian crisis in the Sahel to gain deeper roots in the region and in West Africa with Islamic State, West Africa, and Grand Sahara.

The groups, according to him, have established affiliates or leverage local grievances and consolidate this into a larger movement in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic, Mozambique, as well as in Somalia.

He noted, “They are looking to Africa to try to find a means to re-establish themselves. And we can’t forget that al-Qaida has African roots and has a lot of African connection as well.

“That’s very concerning to us because it’s a deliberate strategy, and part of that strategy is to be quiet about how they act, how they expand. They’re not looking to advertise a lot of what they’re doing.”
The commander said Africa needs to be conscious of their plot and understand how to counter it.

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio has now linked Two former governors of Delta State, James Ibori and Emmanuel Uduaghan, and a former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu into he various contracts awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

Also linked to the contracts in the letter submitted to the House of Representatives Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, is a former lawmaker for the Imo North (Okigwe) constituency of Imo State, Senator Ifeanyi Ararume.

Recall that a list had appeared earlier containing names of Senators and House of Representatives members involved in Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC contracts.

Uduaghan, also a former Governor of Delta State, was linked to the emergency repairs of Close B, Alhaji Estate & Environs, Rumuodomaya, Port Harcourt at a cost of N429m.

Five projects were linked to Kalu, who was simply identified in the document as OUK-Kalu (the project source).

The emergency repairs on road projects linked to Kalu are in Abia State and the costs ranged from N517m to N560m.

The details are Emergency repairs of Ezere-Acha-Ndiokoukwu Road (N517.9m) and repairs of Amaubiri-Eluama-Uru Ring Road, Lokpaukwu, Umuchieze (N560m).

The All Progressive Congress APC is on a high bid for prominent politicians who left the party for one reason or another to return.

The ruling party invited the politicians such as former vice president Atiku Abubakar, Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former senate president Bukola Saraki and Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state who joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and other parties ahead of the 2019 election.

This was after Senator Barnabas Gemade of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, again decamped to the APC at the weekend.
