6 Years single term introduced for President, Governors and Houses of Assembly rejected

The House of Representatives have introduced a bill to change the tenure of President, Governors to a single term of 6 years.

Sponsored by reps member John Dyegh of the All Progressive Congress, the bill has passed through a first reading and has been listed for a second reading by the House.

The bill seeks to change the tenure of President from the 4 years of two terms to a single term of 6 years.

If passed, the will also change the tenure of members of the National Assembly and States Houses of Assembly to 6years from the current 4years term.

The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has reacted to the re-arrest of Omoyele Sowore, convener of the RevolutionNow Movement by operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, at an Abuja Federal High Court.

The group says it was “improper” for a man who lost an election to lead a revolution against the winner of that same election just a few months later.

Sowore had contested for the 2019 presidential election on the platform of the African Action Alliance, AAC, but President Muhammadu Buhari had emerged the winner of the poll.

However, MURIC appealed for calm over the matter, stressing that dialogue should be used in resolving the impasse.

The Presidency has reacted to the decision by Punch Newspaper to henceforth refer to President Muhammadu Buhari as General Buhari.

In a notice titled “Buhari’s lawlessness: Our Stand”, Punch stated that it will “henceforth prefix Buhari’s name with his rank as a military dictator in the 80s ‘Major General’ and refer to his administration as a regime until they purge themselves of their insufferable contempt for the rule of law.

The newspaper made the decision while making reference to DSS non-compliance to court orders on trial of Omoyele Sowore, publisher of SaharaReporters; invasion of courtroom and trial of Shiites’ leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky amongst others.

Punch said its decision shows its protest against autocracy and military-style repression under Buhari’s administration.

However, in reaction to Punch’s decision, Femi Adesina, a Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, said the newspaper’s decision to call Buhari ‘Major General’ is not out of order.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has confirmed that its members attacked Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation in Spain.

IPOB said its members attacked Amaechi in respect to an order by its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Amaechi had on Friday claimed that he was attacked by some “misguided” Nigerians in Madrid, Spain.

The Minister, who had made the disclosure via his Twitter handle, however, added that he was not hurt as the attackers were fought off by the Spanish police.

However, a statement signed by IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful reads: “Yes, IPOB beat Amaechi the Transport Minister base on the standing order given by our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to reprimand those politicians who think they have arrived. IPOB Spain precisely Madrid, beat Minister of Transport Chibuike Amaechi in Spain.

“The order was there before the attack on former Deputy Senate President Dr Ike Ekweremadu in Nuremberg, Germany.

” IPOB is warming all those corrupt politicians who brought hardship to the people that we are waiting for them anywhere we meet or see them. We are telling the whole world why they must be dealt with because they are not sincere to the people to the suffering citizens.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the death of its leader’s father, Israel Kanu.

The circumstances surrounding the death of Israel Kanu, who is the father of Nnamdi Kanu and also the traditional ruler of Afaraukwu community of Umuahia in Abia State were, however, not disclosed by the group.

A statement by Emma Powerful, the Media and Publicity Secretary of the group, simply stated that the monarch has joined his wife, Lolo Sally Kanu to be with his created.

Kanu had months back also announced the death of his mother, saying that she died out of complications arising from arriving from military attack on her when they came for him (Kanu)

In the release announcing the death of Israel Kanu, IPOB also blamed it on the military and the assault on his family. Powerful added that Israel Kanu’s death was quickened by the death of his wife.

The release read in part, “We the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to console the family our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the entire Kanu family and the community of Afaraukwu, over the passing of their father, uncle, brother and traditional ruler, His Royal Majesty Eze Sir Israel Okwu Kanu the Egwu Ukwu II of Afaraukwu.

“He joined his ancestors as a result of health complications arising from the trauma of the invasion of his palace by Nigerian soldiers on September 14, 2017 and most recently over the shock of the sudden death of his wife Ugoeze Sally Nmeme Okwu Kanu.

“We are left in no doubt the military attack on Isiama Afaraukwu and the Kanu family by the armed forces of the Federal Government of Nigeria is the principal cause of death of our leader’s parents. We confidently state, without fear of contradiction, that our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu have also sacrificed his parents in pursuit of freedom for the people of Biafra. There is no greater act of devotion to a noble cause than this.”

He added that, “Rather than weaken or diminish our resolve to restore Biafra, the passing of our leader’s parents will infuse us with a greater sense of determination because only by accomplishing the liberation of Biafra will we truly mourn them.

“We are asking Almighty God Chukwu Okike Abiama to grant the family, friends, lovers of freedom, Afaraukwu Eze-in-Council and entire community the fortitude to bear the great loss and vacuum the passing of His Majesty has created in our midst.”
