The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar on Tuesday continued their defence of petition against President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election with sets of witnesses singing discordant tunes.

Dr Livy Uzoukwu, SAN, Counsel for the petitioners commenced the activity of the day with the presentation of Alhaji Tanko Bichi, a Local Government Collation Agent for PDP in Katsina State for his testimonies.

Bichi, in his evidence in chief alleged that the election in his area was marred by widespread malpractices but could not substantiate the claim when crossed examined.

On his part, Alhaji Salisu Majijiri, Katsina State Chairman of the PDP said the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the state was different from figures collated from the various polling units and wards.

Majijiri, who was also the State Collation Agent for the PDP claimed that the result sheets containing the outcome of the election in the state signed by various against showed that Atiku won in Katsina State.

He alleged that the second petitioner (Atiku) scored a total of 905,000 votes while Buhari scored 8720,000 votes as against the 160,203 votes and 1,555,633 votes recorded for the contestants respectively by INEC.

Majijiri also explained that the 34 adhoc staff engaged by the electoral commission were substituted with the second respondent’s agents to perfect the rigging.

When crossed examined, however, Majijiri was unable to provide cogent insight on how Atiku was rigged out of the election in the state.

Majijiri also failed to present either an original or duplicate copies of the acclaimed signed election result sheets that reflected Atiku’s victory in the state.

The state chairman of the PDP could not also advance reasons why those materials were not brought before the tribunal.

Alhaji Salisu Funtua, another Local Government Collation Agent for PDP, said that INEC had cancelled all the results from polling units and wards where card readers failed.

Appeal Court Reserves judgment in suit challenging Buhari’s academic qualification

Abuja division of the Court of Appeal, Monday reserved judgment in the appeal filed against President Muhammadu Buhari’s academic qualification for the 2019 presidential election.

The three-member panel of the appellate court presided over by Justice Atinuke Akomolafe-Wilson, reserved judgment after listening to the argument canvassed by counsel to parties in the suit.

Northerners have looted Nigeria more than other regions – Fani-Kayode replies El-Rufai

Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation minister, has asserted that Northerners have looted Nigeria more than any other region.

He said this in response to the claim by Nasir El-Rufai, Governor of Kaduna State, that Northerners are rarely arrested for advance fee fraud, popularly known in local parlance as Yahoo Yahoo.

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has said that he will only allow Fulani herdsmen to lay pipes from the Bonny Ocean to the north for their cows.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday pledged his administration’s continued political will and determination towards ridding the country of insurgency and other forms of criminalities.

The Bayelsa State government-owned Broadcasting Corporation, Glory FM, was Tuesday morning razed by fire that was allegedly ignited by spark from the control room of the station.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says starting from 2020, candidates will register for its examinations with their National Identity Number (NIN) to solve the challenges of multiple registration.

Former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has attacked Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo over some of the issues he (Osinbajo) raised during his visit to the United States of America.

The South-East Governors’ Forum has reacted to controversies surrounding the alleged proposal by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) to organize local vigilance groups in the South-East.

MACBAN had said the proposal is to assist leaders in the zone curtail the menace of crimes and criminal activities in the area.

However, the South-East Governors’ Forum denied ever being ready to allow such suggestions come to fruition in the zone.

Leading pan-Igbo think-tank, Nzuko Umunna has warned apex Fulani social-cultural group, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) to “immediately withdraw” its proposal to set up “Fulani Vigilantes” in South East zone.

The Ogun State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abeokuta on Friday struck out the petition by the Labour Party challenging the victory of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The Kogi State High Court, sitting in Koton-Karfe, has ruled that Governor Yahaya Bello and the State House of Assembly jointly or unilaterally, cannot remove the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Nasir Ajanah, without recourse to the National Judicial Council (NJC).

In its ruling on Friday, the court also declared that the Chief Registrar of the State High Court held a statutory position as the accounting officer of the judiciary and was, therefore, not subject to the control and supervision of either the executive or the legislature.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday inaugurated the National Economic Council, NEC, to oversee the economic plans of his administration for the next four years.

The inauguration was held at the council chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Speaking during the inauguration, Buhari urged NEC members to ensure that security, education, health and agriculture are actively implemented and closely monitored.

According to Buhari, the implementation of these programmes would ensure a more peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.

I am delighted to be with you this afternoon to inaugurate the National Economic Council (NEC).

2. NEC is established by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999), as amended. By virtue of Section 153 and paragraph 18 of the 3rd Schedule to the Constitution, NEC has the mandate to advise the President on economic policy of the country and in particular, co-ordination of the economic planning efforts, and programmes of the three- tiers of Government.

3. I am very happy to observe that during our first term of office, the Council made very significant progress, holding an unprecedented total of 38 meetings and setting up 10 Ad-Hoc Committees to address various issues of national concern. In the course of its deliberations, it came up with a total of 173 resolutions, cutting across eight areas, namely;

The National/State House of Assembly Petition Tribunal sitting in Makurdi on Monday struck out the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the victory of Mr Bem Mngutyo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing Tarka State Constituency.

The PDP and its candidate, Mr Philip Orshi, approached the tribunal, alleging that the election that produced Mngutyo as winner of Tarka state constituency election was not conducted in compliance with the Electoral Act.

However, in a twist of event, Orshi, through his counsel, Mr Terna Yaji, filed a motion for withdrawal of the petition, NAN reports.
