I intend publishing some books on basic phonics for nursery and primary pupils. I had already typed the and visited someone on my street for arranging the work before printing.
I was asked to pay 3k to format each work before any other thing. The charges are as follows:

1. formatting 3k each
2. back cover 1k each
3. ISBN no. 7k each
4. printing #400 each. About 70 pages

I'm printing 6 different books but I have a strong feeling that I'm being cheated as I don't have any experience regarding how much these things cost. please I need to know if I'm being cheated. Please help me out. Thank you.

#400 could be cheap or expensive. Tell us the type of paper to be used, the quality of the printing and the type of machine doing the printing. Don't go and spend your money to print on expensive paper and high quality. Consider your market oh. Whether the book is printed at #400 using high quality material or printed at #200 using moderate quality material, the content remains the same. It is the content you are selling, whatever you are doing to cut cost, don't comprise on the quality cover and design.

Nigeria produces garri locally, all raw materials to manufacture garri are local based. How is the cheapest garri? A very tiny nylon is N20. Go to America and Europe. Do you know what $20 or £20 can buy as per locally manufactured goods in those places? You can buy more than 20 units of full big boxed cereals. Some cost like 50 cents per box, that means you can buy 40 of those types with $20. Yet one idiot liar is still concocting useless lies that Naira is more valuable. In America, you can buy a latest 2020 car with about $25,000. Car that they manufactured in their country. Innoson claims to be manufacturing cars and 80% of their manufacturing materials are produced locally. Ok if that's true, which Innoson car can you buy for N25,000? Or what's the cheapest Innoson brand new car? Probably nothing less than N4m, yet they claim Naira is better. Rubbish post!

Do you know that an average person in US don't make $100, 000 in a year but an average business man in Nigeria can make more than #100, 000 every month? One Naira was once equivalent to one Dollar. How about that. The quality of 1 bedroom flat there isn't same as 2 bedroom flat here because water flows, power is constant, amenities work(mail, roads, train, healthcare, education). This has been my argument with a lot of people. What the naira will do here, its equivalent in other currency will not even do half of it in the country they use it.

That is the point I am trying to make. Since they didn't have an agreement on payment right from the onset, the op should have waited till month end before coming out. Well, I hope he gets paid by month end.

No you do not say that... its expected that every worker gets his payment once he finishes his work, so dont say that. can i buy your soap, then after using, i tell you i will pay you by month end how will you feel.

it is expected that a worker gets his payment after work, but when and how he gets it must be cleared stated! If they didn't specify that, he should not come hard on his client.


As for my soap, I have outstanding debts from my distributors. Most of them only pay up when they want new supplies. Its a condition we have agreed on, if you don't clear your old debt no new supply.
