The new policies are as stated below.

1. Post graduate temporary visa applicant age is cut down from 50-35. This is to imply that if you’re over 35 after graduation, you should go home.

2. If you’re on post graduate temporary work visa, you can’t convert back to study visa( remember, most people, after finishing study and couldn’t get a nomination for either state sponsorship, employer sponsorship and 189 visa tend to convert back to study visa just to buy more time).

3. Fast processing time for skilled employment sponsor visa.

4. Post graduate work visa cut down from 5 years to 3 years, as it may apply to either bachelor, masters or phd.

The only policy that has affected oversea applicant is the raise in IELTS band score.

So, how has those policies aimed at refusing student visa?

As much as you may have a point ins saying that, you should consider the policies with it direct implication.

Have these policies been put in place ?

Its happening now ,"The Skilled-Recognised Graduate visa has been capped from 22 December 2023. If you have an application pending you will be able to apply for a repayment of your Visa Application Charge (VAC). As we work through onhand applications you will be sent instructions on how to claim a repayment of your VAC through ImmiAccount."

This is my first encounter with the information that immigration is reimbursing visa fees and requesting applicants to withdraw their applications.

https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/skilled-recognition-graduate-476

This is for 476 visa and not 485 visa. No date has been attached to commencement of the changes yet

I just paid acceptance fees to james cook, awaiting issuance of my COE.Honestly,i regret paying because international students may just be one policy away from being asked to return to their country after studies, just like UK did some years back.

I have asked questions and lot of people say these policies have not been put in place yet. I believe when they final decide it won’t affect people already in the system . It should be for new intakes

NB1912:
Key Takeaways from the recent migration review impacting current and prospective students.

1. New Genuine Student Test (GST): A new Genuine Student test (GST) will be introduced for all international students. A few factors will be taken into consideration in determining the students who meet the GST requirements such as, the circumstances of the applicant, your academic or career progression and the usefulness of the intended study to your future career prospects. The new GST will ensure there is more scrutiny on student visa applications and separate genuine students from non-genuine students.

2. Increased English language requirements: Student visa English language requirement will be raised from IELTS 5.5 to IELTS 6.0. Education providers are now required to report students English language proficiency at enrolment. This means that if an education providers English language requirement is 6.5 for your preferred course, you will be required to provide an IELTS score of 6.5 when applying for a student visa. All student visa applicants will now be required to provide English language score during visa application.
In addition, 485 visa English requirement will be raised from IELTS 6.0 to IELTS 6.5.

3. Restrict onshore visa hopping and age limit for 485 visa: 485 visa holders will be restricted from transferring back to student visa onshore. You will be required to leave Australia and apply for a new student visa. The maximum age for a 485 visa will reduce from 50 to 35. This means if you are over 35 you will no longer be eligible for a 485 visa after your study.

4. Shorter 485 visa: The government has backtracked on it's initial longer 485 visa that was announced earlier this year. The government will revert back to 2 years 485 visa for bachelors and masters by coursework, 3 years for masters by research and 3 years for PHD.

5. Clearer post graduate visa pathways: Temporary Skills Shortage visa (and future Skills in Demand visa) will be changed to give 485 visa holders more opportunity to move on to a skilled visa. Proposed reforms to the points test will also give graduates working in skilled jobs related to their line of study faster pathways to permanent residency. In summary, If you get a job related to your course of study and the job is on high demand your chances of securing a permanent visa will be higher. If the job is not related to your course of study, no PR.

Then get them to write a letter stating that you are not owing. Also that they did not collect any funds fir bills from the government on your behalf. I pray you find favour in your next application.

Did your cousin also pay 3k?

Yes she paid 3k just for hospital and 1,200 also to the doctor. I don’t know if paying the discount will sort this issue out
Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Ijaay83: 9:47am On Jul 07, 2023

Hmmmmmm. Ask those people if they later paid extra. I know for a fact that 3k is too small for someone that is not resident in the US. So ask your friends very well. Also reach out to the hospital and tell them your challenge. Your bill shouldn't be less than 5k.

I reached out to the hospital again yesterday. They faxed my itemized bill to me again and said because I was paying cash.3k was just for the hospital. I paid 1.200 dollars to the doctor. I had a vaginal natural delivery. I didn’t use epidural. And when I told them I want to pay the adjustment on my bill, they said I do not owe . The lady I spoke to told me to call back today to see if I can get a letter stating that I am not owing. My cousin had her 3 children in the same hospital as me and she renewed her visa. At the time I had this issue was durning Trump’s time ,when they placed a ban on Nigerians .

Hi sis, Find out from the hospital what your total bill was suppose to be as cash paying patient. Where possible pay the balance. The thing is now you can also negotiate a further discount on this balance pay to get a zero bill.
I pray this sort it out.

The hospital charged 3k because I was paying cash and out of pocket. And that was why I was given zero balance . My dear sister, this matter tire me 😭😭😭. When I was scouting for hospitals from Nigeria. I called this hospital and they told me if I was paying cash for a vaginal delivery that my bill is 3k. For CS without complications 4,500. I paid cash before I had my baby. After I was discharged I got zero balance . Would the hospital make a mistake to undercharge me and still give me zero balance. I know people in Houston that paid less than 3k and they have renewed their visas.

Find a way to pay the balance if you want to still visit the US. What you paid is not the right bill.

3k dollars was exactly how much the hospital charged. I got a zero balance. I know people that paid less than 3k and didn’t have this issues at the point of renewal.

Hi, I just had a conversation with one of my manager who was denied her visa a second time two weeks ago. I told her something is definitely wrong somewhere. After I cross examined her I knew definitely why she was denied A SECOND time. A case similar to yours so let me help break this down so you don't have to go through what she is going through. for the records she has visited the USA more than 8 times before she had a child in the USA and after that she has been unable to renew her visa

Now this thread was a life saver to me, my sisters and friends that had our baby in the USA. This was our text book. Just incase this things are lost in the pages let me help remind you.

1. If you got your visa while pregnant and didn't state it, Please do yourself a favor and write them a letter of change of intent. (Old member of this thread knows this.) My manager didn't do this.

2. On your arrival PLEASE state you are here to birth your child.( Justwise use to hit this into our brain. Be truthful) Tell them how much you have. Let your fate be decided before you enter. Again My manager didn't do this.

3. State the amount you have for the process. Declare cash above 10k on you. Money laundering policy. My madam had 10k and didn't declare it which got the POE visibly angry(according to her) but they still let her in. Then the last nail on her visa coffin was......... having medical aid to pay baby bill while she took care of her bill. When you are not a tax paying citizen. ODIEGWU

4. DO NOT USE ANY SERVICE FROM THE GOVERNMENT. Yes your child is a citizen please just go to hospital you can afford as a cash paying patient you will enjoy discount easily. This is why a lot of us used Hospital in Houston and got bills we could afford fully. HNWMC mama in the house understand this part.

Most of us back in the day knew all this thanks to this thread and we all have been able to renew our visa.( My sister and friends. one of my friend renewed in Canada)

After using agent to get date and flying from Ph to Lagos Madam spent more than 800k and was still denied the visa. This hurts to the marrow in present day economy. Please if you are planning Child birth in the USA read this thread well. Don't make the mistake that could be easily averted.

I wish you the best in this beautiful journey.

I had my baby in Dallas 2017and I paid out of pocket. The hospital charged 3k dollars which I paid in full. I was given my zero balance. I did drop box and was asked to come for interview. The consular officer asked for my zero balance and I gave it to him . He looked @ it and then said the hospital gave me discount and handed the blue paper to me. I told him I didn’t ask for one, that the hospital charged me 3k and that was exactly how much I paid. Since then I haven’t been able to renew my visa. I need help please . Anyone in the same situation?

I paid the courier before sending via DHL. The receipt of payment was part of what I included in the envelope plus my passport and sent via DHL

I didn’t pay for courier to be sent back to me. I thought VFS will notify me and then I will now make payment for it to be sent back to me

After i received the PPR letter
I sent both passports via DHL to VFS Abuja (Both in the same envelope). All documents requested including the payment receipts enclosed in the envelope

I received email 3 days after that my passport was receiving attention at IRCC office Abuja

it took about 10 days for me to receive the passport back

Did you pay for your passport to be sent back to you at the time you submitted your passport? I thought you will wait for VFS to send you an email that your passport is ready before you make the payment?

@Ijaay83,

I had same experience. I dont know whether things have changed as i tried to renew during Trump's era. I do not want to get another rejection on my passport.
I even showed my itemized bill from Henrico Doctors and explained it was for selfpay, but still.

I know that was Trump’s strategy to deny people visas. I was so careful, paid ALL my bills, got my zero balances. I haven’t been to the embassy since then too. Please anyone in this same situation who has renewed?

hello everyone,

Has anybody who gave birth in Henrico Doctors hospital been able to renew their visas?

I was denied in 2020 and have not bothered to reapply

I was also denied in 2019. I gave birth in Baylors hospital @ Carrollton in Dallas. As a self pay patient the hospital charged 3k dollars in 2017 when I had my baby. I paid exactly 3k and got my zero balance from the hospital. I applied for drop box and was asked to come for interview. The consular office looked at my zero balance and asked why the hospital adjusted my bill. I told him the hospital charged me 3k and I paid exactly 3k . Dunno if anybody has this same challenge.

Thank you.
A 221g interview is a follow-up interview for applicants who qualify for interview waiver (drop box) but are required to provide additional information to complete the visa process.
So, the visa application is temporarily put on hold and the applicant is asked to schedule a follow-up interview which is called a 221g interview.

Im not sure why I was asked to come for interview but I suspect period of stay due to child birth.

Thank you for the very clear explanation 🙏
