Travel › Getting A NIN And A Passport While In Lagos by IjeBos(op): 8:18pm On Sep 25, 2023
I need to get my NIN and Passport renewed while I'm in Lagos for a couple of weeks in Dec. I'm assuming there is no option to do them at the same time. Hopefully, I would not like to invest tons of time doing it as well. How long does the NIN reasonably take to get done? What documents would I need? And is it possible to get the passport done in that time as well? Also, being in Dec. does anyone know if the offices will be closed.

Thanks for any info.

I have no metrics on it. but I think it's both. But, mainly the Nigerian passport. Would always seem to get chosen for the "random" additional screen when traveling with my green card and Green passport. Once I got my passport, that changed.

The koko of it all. The belief that everyone should like everyone does not exist. I recall Tensa20 told me about a popular Facebook group for black folks in tech. Guess what? The African Americans don't share job invites with black Africans. But the group was created by an African (I think Nigerian. Tnesa20 has to confirm this).

The same African Americans from what I read on Twitter would do anything to prevent blacks Africans access to the US, but befriend other races, who don't even like black people at all, and don't care to differentiate blacks based on nationality or ancestry. BTW, the reason Liberia had its civil war was because the returnee African Americans subdued the native Liberian population and impoverished them in their land.

So much for black solidarity. undecided If to say we even get one black dominated country like South Korea and Germany, e for better. Imagine arguing about racism when na we poor pass other races? huh
I think you should delve into the cause of that animosity. I saw it in University. And there was a good argument that Black slave descendants felt that Immigrants were taking up a lot of the opportunities put in place for slave descendants to correct for racism. In my school a sizeable percentage of minorities in my class were 1st generation immigrants. And, I do think, immigrants tend to be a self selected group.

Replies to posts like these trouble me. So much misinformation from people who have 0 clue what they are talking about. And that they are giving it on life/death/medical issues is more troubling.

There are a lot of support groups/websites/forums dedicated to people with diabetes. If you can't get a 2nd opinion from a doctor you trust, I would post on one of those forums and see if someone has dealt with it firsthand.

Goodluck and prayers up for your family.

The Justice Department should really open an investigation into this. Not sure how Thomas thought it was ok to rule on cases brought by people he helped fundraise for. The ethical lapses are mind blowing.

“I can’t imagine — it takes my breath away, frankly — that he would go to a Koch network event for donors,” said John E. Jones III, a retired federal judge appointed by President George W. Bush. Jones said that if he had gone to a Koch summit as a district court judge, “I’d have gotten a letter that would’ve commenced a disciplinary proceeding.”

IjeBoss is one of the few Nigerian men in this country that took the time to learn about this country’s history in order to gain an understanding of how things really work—and he’ll always have my respect. It’s embarrassing because many Nigerians here in America align themselves with racists even going as far as to tell racist jokes about Black people to White people, not realizing that to White people, they are Black and perhaps of a lower class. Matter of fact, some of them will immediately upon arrival in the states tell White people that they aren’t Black, they’re Nigerian. They talk bad about African Americans with White people not knowing the same White people tell jokes about Nigerians being scammers and fake princes. They don’t realize that the White men aren’t laughing with them, they’re laughing at them. I wish they would learn who is on their side and who isn’t.
Thanks. Took an African American history class as an elective senior year. It changed my perspective, especially the dates. You would think all the segregation happened such a long time ago. Just realizing that there are people still alive who couldn't sit at the same counters, drink from the same fountains or go to the same schools as white people puts everything in perspective.

I get your point.
But Racism is unsolvable if the stereotypes associated with Black people persist, people have been racist towards me - certainly; but have the government in the United States been oppressive towards black folks- I don't think so. The issue of affirmative action that made black folks get into universities easier than Asians who merited it is a perfect idea of systemic racism but we don't have to talk about that.

No matter how we see it - stereotypes are very important; the Polish government in 2007 enacted a law that made it extremely difficult for Black people to come into the country due to the fact that the news of black folks in Dallas who traveled to Finland to kill a gang member caught their attention.
Nigerians are temporarily banned to travel to the UAE because of the trespassing of more than six Nigerian citizens who came there to kill a rival gang member(s)
There's even more racism towards our blackselves; a friend of mine in Arkansas opened a flowery which succeeded but was shunned by black folks because it was too expensive to run by a black woman; black people kill more black people everyday;
We see black children on Tiktok acting like they're gang members, this things affect the psyche of other races when they see all this; it isn't right to generalise - that's true but shit happens. Gangs and drugs is even considered cool and 'black culture' by black people, it should be avoided.

It's crazy for Africans not to support black Americans in there fight but black Americans also have to find ways to change what is deemed their culture since it affects good black people everywhere too.

Another challenge with black people is conversations - most white people are just so afraid to talk about race with black people so they won't be deemed racists
I think you're doing a lot of stereotyping yourself. Do you see tik top videos of white children fighting? Have you ever watched a hockey game? The WWE? What's the difference. Let's revisit hockey for a sec. In hockey, fighting is part of the game. They allow players to literally pummel themselves. Do you hear anything about the players being angry or not being able to control themselves? Now imagine if they were black and/or that type of thing happened in a basketball game?

Probably brushing up on your up on African American history would help some.

I wonder how GEJ for keep subsidy and Naira stable without oil revenues

Tinubu and Buhari are opposite ends of the spectrum policy wise sha, e for good if you highlight how two opposing policies achieved the same result. Buhari policies was closer to GEJs (subsidy, Naira intervention) but Nigeria does not have the money to keep those going forever. GEJ had already exhausted the monetary intervention funds and Buhari borrowed to keep those interventions going
Tinubu is a drug lord and it's embarrassing he is our President, but, a friend "in the know" told me prior to the election that no matter who won, the subsidies were gone and things were going to be much harder economically. So, I kept my dollars in my pocket. He believed Obi would be the better President as he would have put some better policies in place to mitigate the damage. I think we can blame Tinubu for not having sufficient plans to help people, but we can't blame him for removing the subsidies.

Edited.

You're wrong. Systemic racism is institutionalized or structural racism. Preventing black people from having fair representation by diluting their voting block is systemic racism. That was one of the problems the Voting Rights act was created to remedy. I don't think you quite understand the term or the issues referenced by it..

You're just a dysfunctional monster if you think there's systemic racism remaining in the West, the only racism left in the West is just stereotypes - blacks are thieves and robbers and drug dealers, I won't blame someone who has never done business with a black person to refuse a business dealing because someone is black - he/she may just be ignorant but with the news of blacks and their inappropriate cultures - gang dealings plus the destruction and raping of white and Asian businesses happening in Chicago, I won't be surprised if he/she will be being stereotypical

Now you are mixing things
The OP talked about experiencing racism which is day to day living . He did not ask if USA didn’t have racist laws.
The racist laws existed because racist people created them and kept them. Those racist people who fought to keep them. (Like Jerry Jones the owner of the Cowboys), are still alive. And furthermore, their kids who I'm sure picked up on their racism are alive. And you are arguing the hearts of those racist people and their children just changed. No, they didn't.

Two of my neighbors are much older, white and grew up in the racially tense times of my city. I know they had/have racist inclinations. In fact one talks about how he grew up in those racist times. They are great neighbors. I mean great, we golf together, access to each other's yards/tools, snowblow each others houses. But, once in a while they'll say something pseudo-racist, like one of their retirement dinners when they were cracking on some Mexicans they met on vacation. And, I'll check them. And they'll agree. I leave it as that's what they know from how they grew up and as long as they are willing to challenge and grow in that area, we can be friends.

You will be shocked to see an African working in these offices, and the white colleagues would be making racist comments and the African would be smiling and laughing with them, not even realising they are being racist and dehumanising him.

That’s why they prefer to hire Africans. They are simple and naive with a racial inferiority complex, and whites love that, unlike the Afro Americans who fought them for centuries and know exactly what they are about, and will take no rubbish from them, including their racism.
It's not just Africans. There are a lot of Black Americans who do the same. They think they are different and will be seen different. That by going a long they will be liked. It's sad. I see a lot of them in this forum as well.

Tim Scott is a good case in example.

There’s no element of racism in everything you highlighted. Just police doing their job probably responding to an emergency call. Were you not let go after you complied and not trying to play the fool like how a lot of Americans do? Were you not allowed to leave after you were properly identified? So police can’t do their job again? That’s not racism
You're wrong, to pull you over or detain you the police have to have a "reasonable suspicion". Is carrying a book bag a reasonable suspicion?
I think that is what is dangerous in what you are saying. Most of my black friends have similar stories, none of my white friends do. Now, in all those situations, I got out alive. What would have happened if I had made the wrong move, or stood up for my rights. When black people have statistical more of these encounters there is a greater probability of bad things happening.

Edit: I get it, you have a misunderstanding about the law. In the US we have a right per the Fourth Amendment against unreasonable searches and seizures. This isn't Nigeria. They just can't stop me to identify me.

As a child, I was stopped by police with guns drawn at least 2x. Once, they thought I had drugs in my bookbag, (was heading to Sat. school where I tutored). Stopped me at a bus stop guns ablaze. 2nd time I was outside my privileged high school across the street from Harvard Medical School. I was waiting for a bus after school. Someone called and said I had a gun in my waist (why else would a black boy be there?). Both situations could have ended badly.

As an adult another 2x. Once surrounded by 4 cop cars, about 8 cops, guns drawn and asked to lay on the ground. Was walking back to my apartment in a white part of the city with 3 friends (all black). Supposedly someone shot inside a movie theater... and well we're black. That situation could have ended very badly.

Those are a just times where I was stopped guns ablaze by police. Many stories just being pulled over or harassed.

As much as I despise racism, some of the rednecks may have a little justification for racism and if I may play the devil's advocate for a bit. Their country is developed, they've managed to build a working system through sheer hard work over the years and some of them have never had contact with blacks before. Also, there are some places where blacks are always in the news for the wrong reason all the time.

What exactly is the reason behind tribalism? All the tribes in Nigeria are equally backward with very little to show the last time I checked and we are the same fvucking black skin.

Why exactly does one backward tribe think they are better than the other backward tribe? it's the same shit in different toilets.

I apologize for my frankness.
Sorry. You should hone up on your US history. The US was developed on the back of African Americans. And because of systematic racism, blacks generational wealth was destroyed. Google the "Tulsa Race Massacre" or "Black Wall Street".

I'm in the US, based in the Northeast. It's here. My friends with black boys have to have the conversation with their sons about how to interact with police. It's sad to have to discuss. And also to remind them that though they may live in the same neighborhoods and go the same schools as some of their friends, at times they may not be seen or treated the same.

My niece was telling me the other day, that she's not pretty and her hair's not pretty. She's 9. Was confused and then she explained that a white girl in her school told her that her skin was dark and hair wasn't soft.. blah blah blah. Adults can manage, understanding that we need to manage, but if you live in areas that are not predominately black, children can bear the brunt.

If someone saw your girlfriend half naked in bed with another man, he can as well report that he found them smack in the middle of the act. In such a case what other proof would you need. 4K video?
I've extrapolated that kind of exageration to the plea deal.In

Hunter plea deal would have given him immunity over FARA, a fact the prosecution said investigation was going on. To which the defence protested saying the other investigation was part of the plea deal. In other words Hunter was absolved of any other crime through double jeopardy.
The Judge accepts a deal, declines to accept or asks for more briefings if she has issues. In this case she asked for more briefings and was clear that she wasn't accepting or declining the deal. The only thing you are close to right on is that in asking questions the Judge allowed the Prosecution to 1.) lie about the FARA immunity and 2.)get out of the deal that they had negotiated with one of the Top Law Firms in the US because they had been politically pressured to. Again, the deal had included broad immunity for the FARA charges based on the emails between Hunter's attorneys and the Government. The Government could have told the truth that it did include immunity and the Judge would have accepted the agreement when the language of the diversion program had been fixed.

You don't understand half the concepts you're referring to and are here trying to lecture people on it.
Your understanding of double jeopardy is idiotic. It's like saying someone who got a plea deal for a murder charge is immune from all future murders.

But, my fault. I knew better than engaging you in anything substantive.

Seriously I did not contradict Bemeruca. I ridiculed your nonsensical argument of proof when words were spoken. The underlying meaning of what I wrote was that the judge didn't have to say it, she scattered the plea deal to the winds.
Too bad, were you taught Latin in Chinese language?
Sweetheart deal. When your past crimes are forgiven And the future ones to be ignored, in Latin is that not a sweetheart deal.
I'm sure she telepathically struck down the deal so it wasn't in the court transcript. You shouldn't hang around people where tellign the truth gets you in trouble(aka slyfooxx, benalvino). There's a good passage about iron sharpening iron you should refer to.

If you want to participate in this class you have to do the homework as assigned. Here is the homework again below. And for you I'll add another assignment.

3. (for basilico) Show me from either the plea deal or courtroom transcript, where the deal said "future crimes will be be ignored". I will not accept any other source discussing what the plea deal said.

IjeBos:
And it was a sweetheart deal how? Explain with examples of similar situations with people receiving worse treatment for the 2 actions below.

1.) Tax Charges - Show me examples of harsher treatment for individuals who have paid back the taxes they owed with penalty. In your example explain (compare/contrast) Hunter's situation with that of Roger Stone. Explain how hunter got a sweetheart deal given that Roger Stone didn't have any criminal exposure.

2.) Gun Charge - Show me examples of people getting harsher sentences for lying on the gun form by stating they did not take illegal drugs who have not committed a felony. In that answer explain why Boebert isn't under investigation now for video of her vaping even though she owns guns.

You clearly live a life where because you have idiots around you, you think that the nonsense that comes out of your mouth carries some force of fact. I'll beat how stupid you are into your useless self.
