Ovation publisher and columnist, Dele Momodu, has said erstwhile president Goodluck Jonathan will be contesting in the 2019 presidential elections. He appealed to the government and fellow citizens not to rule Jonathan out of the 2019 presidential race. In an open letter he titled ‘The Second Coming Of Goodluck Jonathan’, the publisher wrote: “I have been reading about the rising profile of our former President, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, and wish to state without equivocation that no one should rule him out of the 2019 presidential race. “I first hinted this possibility about two months ago and wish to reiterate that Nigerians should prepare for the shock that awaits us. “The story of Donald Trump should bring us back to our senses. Nothing is impossible. “The second coming of Goodluck Jonathan may be so far-fetched or even belong in those categories of impossibilities but I wish to plead with our government and my fellow citizens not to rule it out. “As one of those who made our modest and humble contributions to the coming of this Buhari government, I’m pleading with trepidation. “Jonathan’s popularity is rising not because of anything he has done to atone the sins that must have led to his waterloo but as a result of what our change government has failed or refused to do. “The obsession of our government with going all out after Jonathan is the main reason the Otuoke man is beginning to smell like roses after the odoriferous position he landed himself last week. Only if our government had succeeded in maintaining the economy it met, Nigerians would have been ready to enter fire with Buhari. “But there are just too many unresolved problems and challenges. The excuses that Jonathan and company left this peculiar mess behind have refused to fly. The groans might not be loud enough to reverberate all the way to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, as of now, but trust me it may become deafening, sooner than later. “I do not care if men and women of power dismiss my submission with a wave of the hand but they should mark my word; there is a thickening conspiracy in the clouds. It would be a shame if we inadvertently play into the hands of those hovering and ready to pounce on Buhari. “I read about “persecution complex” long ago and I understand how it works. If you beat your own child so ruthlessly as if you want to kill him, the tilt of public opinion would always go against you. Many would wonder why you want to kill your own child. In our anger, let us pick our fights. There is too much tension in the land. I would be delighted if anyone could educate and convince me that “Nigeria has gained much more than we’ve lost to this war of attrition. If we haven’t, we may need to retrace our steps urgently.” They recalls that residents of Hubbaren Shehu in Sokoto State on Thursday caused a stir as they trooped the streets with placards, calling Jonathan to come back to office. Some residents cried out, displaying placards with inscriptions, ‘COME BACK BABA JONATHAN,’ ‘PRESIDENT JONATHAN’. Momodu continued, “Jonathan caused a stir in Sokoto State during his visit to the state to pay his respects to Ibrahim Dasuki, the late former Sultan of Sokoto. Jonathan was received by a large crowd of admirers, some holding banners bearing the words “Come Back Baba Jonathan”. “The same voices that chanted “Sai Baba” and “Jonathan Must Go” are now fiddling with the tunes of the possibility of a Jonathan to stage a comeback. Here lies the irony of political triumph and the paradox of high expectations. “The euphoria and momentum that saw the exit of Jonathan and the emergence of the Buhari change administration has since begun to wane following the inability of the new government to hit the ground running with the tenacity of a government in a hurry! “There are many who believe that the poor management of the ensuing economic recession didn’t help matters. Suddenly, Nigerians who had high hopes and voted massively for change are now caught in a limbo between confusion and uncertainty. As it stands today, the average Nigerian is confronted with the reality of an economic recession they never planned for; a situation they did not experience under the Jonathan administration and under previous governments. “Many of President Buhari’s supporters are worried that the humongous goodwill that engineered the Buhari change mantra is now being frittered away at the speed of light. “The unfolding plot has now thrown up former President Jonathan as a new protagonist in Nigeria’s theatre of the absurd. For many of us who are ardent students of history, we have since learnt that nothing is impossible in the game called politics. Will history repeat itself again? Time is pregnant with answers!” Source : http://ijebuloaded.com/news-jonathan-may-contest-2019-elections-dele-momodu/

The Oyo/Osun Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized a bullion van belonging to a commercial bank in Nigeria, but used in smuggling rice into the country through the land border. The bullion van meant for conveyance of bank currency was intercepted by operatives of Oyo/Osun Customs loaded with smuggled rice through a tip off. The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Command, Compt. Ogunkua Tope, who disclosed this, displayed the vehicle at the Command’s office in Ibadan , loaded with 50kg bags of rice. According to him, “The interception of a bullion van meant for carrying cash, but used in concealing smuggled imported foreign rice into the country illegally should send a serious signal to recalcitrant saboteurs of the Nigerian economy that there is no hiding place for them, especially as the juletide approahes”. He went on, “We are determined to beat all their concealment patterns with our superior intelligence network, because the Service has equipped us with necessary work tools and adequate training to curb the menace of smuggling in the region. It is worrisome to see that some Nigerians still remain unrepentant, even as they continue to lose. Not even the Federal Government’s visible efforts in transforming the agricultural sector, especially in the area of rice production as well as increase prevalence of expired imported rice with its hazardous health implications have touched their conscience to avoid rice smuggling. However, our resolve to deal with them remains unshakened, more so now that the present management has directed thorough investigation with a view to prosecuting all those found connected to this illegal act. I am using this opportunity to appeal to well-meaning members of the public who want to engage in legitimate business to come forward for clarification or visit the Command headquarters for trade facilitation and enquiries.” “The recalcitrant ones who still insist on engaging in the illicit business of smuggling should be well advised that they would not escape the long arm of the law, especially as the yuletide approaches. You will recall that we had reiterated our resolve to increase the revenue profile of the Command and to tirelessly reduce the incidence of smuggling. In keeping to this promise, the Command initiated new anti-smuggling strategies, which led to remarkable exploits seen in the seizures that include one bullion van loaded with rice, a fairly used Rover, one fairly used Toyota Highlander, two fairly used Toyota Camry, two fairly used Volkwagon, two fairly used Mecedes Truck loaded with rice, two fairly used Nissan Land Rover, one fairly used Man diesel truck, two fairly used Nissan Urvan loaded with rice, five fairly used Toyota Hiace loaded with rice, one fairly used Nissan Vannet loaded with smuggled imported rice, two fairly used Toyota Land Cruiser, one fairly used Mazda 626, one fairly used Honda Accord Saloon, one fairly used Toyota Duet, one fairly used Lexus GX470, one fairly used Daihatsu Atrai, one fairly used lite Ace bus, two brand new Land Rover Discovery truck carrying smuggled brand new Honda Accord, made at different locations within the Command’s area of coverage”. Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU) says about 6,000 students will be accommodated in the first phase of the institution’s hostel projects. Fagbohun disclosed this plan at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Lagos. “Hostel is a critical component of university life; one of the major things that it does is bonding. “It allows and assists for bonding within the students and even for effective management of the students. “The good thing about it, the House of Assembly and pursuant to the directives of Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode, we have now been authorised to go ahead with hostel accommodation for our students. “One of the things that is very common with Nigerians is uncompleted projects and you see a lot of interferences of political this; political that; everybody wanting to be part of hostel development. “We did not want to engage ourselves in that. So we brought in transaction advisers, we brought in Price Water Coppers. “We did an advert for expression of interests and it was heavily subscribed, we had about 40 companies that applied. “We have now passed all of that to Price Water Coppers to do the selection, checking financial capability; checking the technical competence; checking the track records; doing a comprehensive diligence on all of those who have applied and making a selection. “What we want to do in the first phase is to accommodate between 5,000 and 6,000 students. “This development is going to be done at Ojo; it will also go on at our Epe campus where we have the Faculty of Engineering, the School of Agriculture and PGS programme (Post Graduate Students). Fagbohun said that the university had to take that initiative because if it asked government to build the hostels, “it will not work because we all know there is so much demands on the purse of government. So government cannot do it alone’’. He explained that part of what the PWC was doing was to determine the rent at which to give the hostel rooms to students. “This was a resounding point by the management during discussion that the charge must be affordable,’’ he said. He noted that the hostel charges must not be beyond the reach of the average student; it must be such that a student from any of the income group is able to afford. According to him, the project will be done through public private partnership (PPP) as there is so much demand from the government by different sector. – CBN’s representative, Mrs Nkechi Osuji, has hailed a programme recently launched by the federal government for the recent crash in price of rice – Local rice now reportedly costs N13,000 for a 50kg bag – Mrs Nkechi encouraged more states to join the scheme to enable more reduction in price of local rice Nigerians can now heave a sigh of relief after reports confirmed that the price of local rice in the country has crashed in some states across the federation. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quotes the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as saying the agricultural initiative ‘Anchor Borrowers Programme’ which the federal government launched recently, is responsible for the drastic change in prices. Making this remark on Saturday, November 19 in Imo state was Mrs Nkechi Osuji, the head of CBN’s development financing department at a sensitisation workshop attended by local government representatives of small holder farmers, cooperative societies, youths and women groups drawn from the 27 local government areas of Imo. According to her, a 50kg bag of local rice can now be bought for N13,000 in states where the scheme has been embraced. She also added that the more the states that join, the cheaper the products in the market. The CBN representative also encouraged participants to take the programme seriously as it has the potential of providing over one thousand jobs for unemployed youths and graduates. “Let there be no ghost farmers and unnecessary bureaucracy in the implementation of the programme in Imo. “If this programme is genuinely executed, a lot of jobs and wealth will be created in Imo,” she was quoted to have said. Meanwhile, reports indicate that China produces fake rice which is mixed with plastic for exportation to African countries including Nigeria. China has a history of making fake food items and the fake rice phenomenon has been there for a while. A reputable English-language newspaper in Korea, The Korea Times, reported that “China famous for having all, making all, has now been reported to have made rice out of plastic and has distributed it.” Source : http://ijebuloaded.com/news-price-rice-crashes-nigerians-approach-festive-season/

“The United States is deeply concerned by the deaths of dozens of Nigerians during clashes between individuals participating in a Shia procession and the Nigerian Police Force in Kano State. “While the matter is still under investigation, we are troubled by the apparent disproportionate response by the police. “This is the latest in a series of violent incidents between security forces and members of the Shia Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), some of which have resulted in deaths, destruction of property, and the arbitrary detention of IMN members. “The United States calls for calm and restraint on all sides, a reduction of tensions, and greater communication between Shia citizens and government authorities,’’ he said. According to him, members of the Shia community, like other religious communities, have the right to assemble, peacefully express their religious beliefs, and mark their celebrations. Kirby said that said that his government had called on the Nigerian government to protect and defend the rights of the Shia community. The U.S. official also enjoined members of the IMN and Nigerians to respect the rule of law and cooperate with the police, as they attempt to maintain public order. Kirby also called on the Nigerian government to ensure accountability for the deaths of more than 300 IMN members during the Dec.15, 2015 clashes between the IMN and security forces in Zaria, Kaduna State. “We also call on the Nigerian government to conduct a transparent investigation of the latest incidents and bring to account anyone responsible for violating the law,’’ he added. The U.S. Government, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization, today inaugurated a state-of-the-art polio modular laboratory at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, to improve the efficiency of polio diagnosis in Nigeria through reliable environmental sampling. While examining the ultra-modern amenities with representatives of the Federal Government, U.S. Consul General John Bray observed that the new facility, which cost an estimated $400,000, exists alongside a World Health Organisation-accredited polio laboratory in Ibadan, but is the first one in the country equipped to detect the wild polio virus from waste water. “This new facility will enhance Nigeria’s ability to respond to polio outbreaks quickly, by promptly diagnosing polio from samples received from the 48 environmental sewage sites across the country.” Consul General Bray noted. “The eradication of poliomyelitis will be accomplished only when polio laboratories provide convincing diagnostic evidence of the absence of wild poliovirus infections in humans and prolonged circulation in the environment” He added. More than 70 participants attended the event, including Nigerian government officials, representatives of donor agencies, UN agencies and Rotary International. To help Nigeria address its high mortality rates, USAID helps increase access to quality family planning and reproductive health services, immunizations, polio eradication, malaria prevention and maternal health services. USAID also provides technical support to immunization campaigns through social mobilization, and other activities. Source : http://ijebuloaded.com/news-4m-wild-polio-diagnosis-lab-opens-uch/

The Federal Government has won the case to have the country’s money looted by ex-head of state, Sani Abacha repatriated from the United State of America where the fund has been stashed. This is equally as the Attorney-General, Malami is billed to visit US next week for the fund’s repatriation. This was disclosed, Friday, by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu. Shehu was reacting to some claims making the rounds that President Buhari had donated USD 500 million to Democratic Hillary Clinton’s campaign in the recently held Presidential elections in U.S which saw the Republican Donald Trump emerge the President-elect. According to Shehu, Nigeria has no such money to throw around and even if it does have, President Buhari who has zero tolerance for waste cannot do such unjustifiable act. “What is the craziest accusation made against President Buhari?” “That he donated USD 500 million to Hillary’s campaign and that Donald Trump is angry. This has gone viral, sadly Nigerians are believing it!” “President Buhari’s Nigeria doesn’t have this kind of money to throw around. Even if the money is there, this President is the least likely person to give it as donation, and for what?” “As we speak, President Buhari is concluding agreements with the U.S. to return our stolen money in their banks. A FGN account has already been given for the return of one million Dollars from Alamisiegha.” “Judgement on the USD 480 million Abacha loot has been won and our Attorney-General, Malami (SAN) will be in the US next week to speak to the Department of Justice, USDOJ on the next steps for the return of that as well.” “The U.S is paying to Nigeria, not the other way round, abi?” Source : http://ijebuloaded.com/news-abacha-loot-fg-wins-case-malami-heads-u-s-next-week-repatriation/

The National leadership of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) is set for a show down with the management of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, over the sack of 23 of its members. The union claimed its members were sacked for exposing alleged corrupt practices by the Vice Chancellor and management of the institution. In a communique at the end of its National Executive Council meeting, SSANU said contrary to insinuations from the management of the institution that the union members were disengaged for various act of insubordination, stealing among others, the staff were sacked for reporting corrupt practices in the institution to the EFCC and ICPC. The union also wants the federal government to institute a special visitation panel to investigate the activities of the Vice Chancellor and the leadership of other institutions accused of corrupt practices. The Governing Council of the university had last Thursday approved the sack of 23 SSANU members, including the entire branch executive of the association, its National Public Relations Officer, the Bursar, three medical doctors and two medical workers. The management of the institution claimed that the staff were sacked for “stealing of University property, insubordination and willful disobedience to lawful instructions” , absconding from assigned duty posts, engaging in sabotage and other forms of gross misconduct prejudicial to good governance and peace of the University. The union threatened to take legal action to protect the rights of its members and asked the EFCC to immediately conclude its investigation into the petition against the Vice Chancellor and management of the institution. The communique signed by the association’s National President, Comrade Samson Chijioke Ugwoke and the National PRO, Comrade A.O. Salaam, read in part: “SSANU NEC in session received the disgusting and shocking news of the recent developments at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, where twenty-three (23) members of the Union, including the entire branch executive of SSANU had their appointments terminated for union activities and for reporting crime to the appropriate organs of government. “NEC noted that members of the Union, in spite of the anti-corruption crusade of the Federal Government, reported serious cases of abuse of power and corruption to the federal government through the presidency, the federal ministry of education, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission. “NEC further noted that following invitation of the Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Chancellor by the EFCC, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole, began a reign of terror and clampdown on the petitioner’s and the union, culminating in the termination of their appointments without following due process as stipulated by law despite the fact that the matter is pending in court. “NEC in session was surprised that rather than being commended for playing roles in the national interest, their appointments were terminated as a cover-up and in retaliation for exposing the rot, corruption and fraud inherent within the system.” The union also “condemns the exposure, hazards and tension which members of the union have been exposed to since the investigation started. “NEC requests the EFCC to speedily conclude its investigations and further demands that the Federal Government urgently intervenes by setting up Special Visitation/Investigation Panels into the affairs of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, University of Abuja, Federal University of Technology, Akure, and other universities where allegations of corruption have been levelled against the Vice-Chancellors. “NEC resolved that it would do everything legally possible to ensure the reinstatement of the sacked workers and urges the Federal Government to act swiftly in the interest of overall peace in the university system.” Three SSANU members had recently petitioned the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Olusola Oyewole to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC over allegations bordering on corruption and abuse of office leading to the detention of the Vice-Chancellor by the anti graft agency. “The National leadership of SSANU had encouraged three of the members to petition the Vice-Chancellor and the Pro-Chancellor to the EFCC, the ICPC, the Presidency and the Federal Ministry of Education over alleged corruption and abuse of office.” Source : http://ijebuloaded.com/news-ssanu-set-shut-funnab-sack-23-members/

Nigeria has resolved to stop the importation of wheat from Russia to help save its foreign currency reserves. The decision was announced following the end of the fourth Joint Commission meeting between Russia and Nigeria in Abuja at the weekend. Foreign Affairs minister Hajiya Khadija Abba-Ibrahim said Nigeria would instead invite Russians to help them improve their agricultural productivity. “We import a lot of wheat from Russia and we are telling Russia that this has to stop. “We want the Russian companies and farmers to come to Nigeria to show us how we can grow our agriculture sector with modern technology,” the minister said. The Russian delegation was led by the deputy head Russian Delegation in Nigeria, Mr Dianov Alexandar Yurievich. The value of wheat imported into Nigeria between January and September 2016 was $660m, according to data obtained from the National Bureau of Statistics. Nigeria, in the first week of November, imported approximately 53 million metric tons valued at $7.8 billion. Nigeria has stepped up wheat production and has hit 60,000MT, ranking it 61st out of 79 countries in global production. According to data from the Central Bank of Nigeria, the country spends $11 billion (N3.1tn) annually to import wheat, rice, sugar and fish. Nigeria’s food import was growing at an unsustainable rate of 11 per cent per annum. Wheat is in high demand in Nigeria as a raw material for bakery and feed mills. Meanwhile, members of Nigeria’s Shiite Muslim sect staged peaceful protests today for the second day running to press for the release of their detained spiritual leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, who has been held since December last year. They were also protesting against the proscription of the sect by the government. The founder of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), an umbrella body of Shiites and some of his followers, has been held in various prisons since the sect’s clash with the military. The clash in December in Zaria, a university town in Kaduna state, claimed more than 380 members of the sect. President Muhammadu Buhari, in a national broadcast, accused the Shiites of holding their communities hostage. Source: http://ijebuloaded.com/news-nigeria-stops-imports-wheat-russia/

A potential plane crash in Nigeria was averted on Friday as an Arik Air aircraft lost one of its two engines mid-air with over 100 passengers on board. The aircraft, a Boeing 737 with the registration number 5N-MJD, SaharaReporters learnt, departed from Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos, for Jos when the pilot discovered that the plane had lost one of its engines during the flight. A source close to the airline told our correspondent that the aircraft was already 60 miles away from Lagos before the incident occurred. Immediately after the pilot discovered the problem, he contacted the Lagos control tower, which granted him emergency landing status. Passengers panicked when they were informed that the aircraft would return to Lagos, SaharaReporters gathered. Upon landing in Lagos, it was gathered that the aircraft could not taxi out of the runway and it took the intervention of the Airport Rescue and Fire-Fighting Services (ARFFS), a department in the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), to tow the aircraft to the hajj and cargo terminal area of the airport in order for the passengers to disembark from the aircraft. “The incident occurred at noon on Friday. The aircraft had departed Lagos for Jos, but barely a few minutes into the journey, the pilot radioed the Lagos control tower that it needed to return to base," a source from the airline told SaharaReporters. “When the control tower heard this, they approved the pilot for emergency landing, which he did successfully. The aircraft had to be towed out of the runway by the ARFFS because it could not move again.” A source in the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) said the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) was yet to report the incident to the bureau for further investigation. “As an investigator, I can tell you that I am not aware of this development. AIB should be the one to decide any occurrence if it feels that the industry can gain any safety value from it," the source said. “There had been complaints that the NCAA does not notify us at times when there is an incident. It is by law that we should be notified in case of any incident. The AIB Commissioner is empowered by law to investigate any occurrence in the sector,” he explained. Similarly, a source in the NCAA said that the regulatory body was yet to be informed about the incident, stressing that it was a reportable issue. The cause of the incident remains unknown at the time of publication. Source : http://ijebuloaded.com/news-disaster-averted-arik-air-aircraft-loses-engine-mid-air-lagos-jos/

The Federal Government last week granted provisional licences for the establishment of eight new private universities in the country, following a recommendation by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The decision to this effect was taken at the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari. The new universities, which will run programmes for an initial there-year period in provisional status, will likely increase admission places for teeming population of Nigerian students seeking admission into universities. The new universities are Anchor University, Ayobo, Lagos, Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State, Clifford University, Owerrinta, Abia State and Coal City University, Enugu. The rest include Crown-Hill University, Eiyenkorin, Kwara, Dominican University, Ibadan, Kola Daisi University, Ibadan and Legacy University, Okija, Anambra State. With this approval, the number of universities in the country is now 151, comprising 82 public and 69 private universities. However, the new universities will be mentored by some older universities in the country. These include University of Lagos, University of Calabar, University of Agriculture, Umudike, Umuahia, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, (UNN), University of Ilorin, University of Ibadan and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. It is good that the mentoring universities have been given the mandate to oversee and mentor the new universities in terms of academic culture, administration for three years within which they must have learnt the art of university governance and academic details. On mentoring of the new universities, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwuka, explained that the mentoring arrangement was backed by Education Act, Cap E3 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004, implemented by the NUC and the Federal Ministry of Education. Anwuka stressed that the universities would be visited during the three years of provisional licence to ensure that they are doing the needful in providing meaningful and responsive education to Nigerian youths. We commend the Federal Government for its approval of the new private universities. Expectedly, the new universities will create new admission spaces for majority of Nigerians seeking admission to universities. They will also boost job creation and help in the development of higher education in the country. While this development is good, welcome and progressive, the government must ensure that they offer qualitative education to their prospective students. For the new universities to play the envisaged roles adequately; there is the need for them to recruit quality academic staff from existing universities in the country and even abroad if they can afford. They should not lay emphasis on profitability of the education enterprise alone. The NUC should also visit existing public and private universities periodically to ensure that the quality of instruction is up to acceptable standards. We say this because of the alleged falling standard of education expressed by some employers of labour on some of our university graduates. The new universities should have the requisite infrastructure, including well-equipped laboratories, libraries and lecture halls. Although the number of universities in the country has increased from the five we had in the 60s, there is still need for more universities in the country. While we commend government’s effort in striving to increase admission spaces by opening new universities, we urge it to also pay attention to Polytechnics and Colleges of Education as well. There is the need to increase admission places in this cadre of higher institutions in the country. To make these institutions attractive, the Federal Government should offer scholarship to Nigerian students that opt to study in them. Above all, let government ensure that all our higher institutions are of international standards. Source : http://ijebuloaded.com/news-eight-new-private-universities/

The Governing Council of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta on Thursday sacked 18 staff members of the institution while five others were also relieved of their appointments by the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Olusola Oyewole. The sacking, our correspondent gathered, came at the end of a meeting presided over by the Chairman of the Council, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe. It was further gathered that those sacked include three members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities of the institution namely, Lasun Somoye, Abdusalaam Sobbor and E.A. Bankole. They were said to be the ‘whistle blowers’ who allegedly wrote a petition against the management of the institution to the anti-graft agency – the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The trio had earlier been placed on suspension by the management of the institution since August 22 before this new development. Others affected were 10 executive members of the association under the Chairmanship of Rotimi Fasunwon and five other staff of the institution. Those sacked include three medical doctors; Dr A.O Ajayi; Dr I.O Olaniran, and Dr O.O. Salami and two health workers; Mr Oyero, a laboratory scientist and Miss K.O. Adeyemi, a medical record officer. According to some of the letters dated November 10, 2016 and signed by the School registrar, M.O. Ayoola, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent, the school based its action on what it called “re-organisation” in the institution. The letter read in part, “Due to re-organisation in the university system, the Governing Council has directed that your services are no longer required. Your appointment as… is therefore terminated with immediate effect. “Please handover all university property in your possession to the Head of your Department/Unit immediately, while your Staff Identification Card should be submitted at the Establishment and Human Resources Directorate of the Registry. “Please note that you will be paid one month’s salary in lieu of notice.” When contacted on the matter, the Head, Directorate of Public Relations of the Institution, Emi Alawode promised to send her response but as at the time of filling this report, the response has yet to be received.
