DAY 1 I left my cousin's place and visited other people/places in Enugu town. Around 6:pm, i left Enugu for my hometown, my village, in Anambra, where i would spend the Easter break with my family. The Enugu-Onitsha expressway, though with patches here and there, but took me less than an hour to arrive Anambra. I arrived my father's compound in the village around 6:40pm. Pic attached Ikenna.

DAY 1 I arrived Enugu town, eventually, around 5pm that day. A journey, if all things were equal, i should have been in Enugu by 1pm. But all things are not always equal on Nigerian Highways. Well, i drove straight to visit a Cousin of mine at Trans-Ekulu (attched Pic taken infront of my cousin's house at Trans-Ekulu. Ikenna.

DAY 1 About 1 hour to reach Lokoja, i met another terrible traffic jam, around 10:30am. This time, i had to switch off the damn engine. Lol! There was no movement for hours. The whole road was blocked completely. Everyone came out of his vehicle to stretch his/her legs, as you can see in the pic attached (Which was when it occured to me to start documemting the trip with pictures). There, we had no option than form a gathering and started discussing Politics, to keep ourselves busy. Lol! By the time the traffic started moving, it was around 12pm or so. I finally got to Lokoja around at 1:30pm. This was a journey, if not for those traffic jams, i should have drove past Lokoja by 8:30am. Because of the long hours i spent at Gwagwalada hold up, with the engine running non-stop, the fuel guage was already indicating half tank. Well, i drove into a filling station in Lokoja, refilled the tank, and started heading towards Enugu (about 6 more hours of high speed ahead). Ikenna.

2012 Easter Break: My Trip to East: Abuja - Enugu & Anambra,With My Peugeot 605 V6 (1500 Km/932 miles) After enjoying t-die's thread on his trip with his Lion, Peugeot 307, i decided to post a similar trip i did earlier this year (pictures attached), hence the Topic . DAY 1 (06/04/2012) I drove off around 6:30am. I got to Gwagwalada around 7:00am and met a terrible traffic. I spent more than 2 hrs there, with the engine running constantly (considering that i dont switch off my engine till i get to my destination, once am doing long distance motoring, unless an emergency or refuelling). By the time i passed Gwagwalada, it was after 9. That was when the main journey started on Abuja-Lokoja highway. Ikenna. |
tundesto: Thank you very much once again for allaying my fears. I learnt you are in Abuja like myself. Where can I get a dealer that has many varieties of that Peugeot 406 on his fleet to inspect? My budget is 800k. I hope that can at least get me a 1998 model.Unfortunately, i don't know any dealer in Abuja that may have such. But i believe you will find one with patience. Though, you will find more of D9 here in Abuja. Ikenna. |
seechris: Hello people, please can someone enlighten me on this issue with my Honda accord, when ever I buy fuel the engine refuses to start, I tried leaving the engine running once but soon as the fuel started pumping in the engine just went off, have changed fuel pump, but problem is still there, mechanics are at a loss as to what to do, thanks for your assistance.I believe i have sent you a PM on this your repeated post. Please, start a new topic on your car issue or you post the issues on any of the Honda threads which you will find in Car Talk Library. Please dont derail this thread. Thank you. Ikenna. |
tundesto: Thank you very much. But would you recommend I buy a 1998-2000 Peugeot 406 with XU10 series(as long as it is not V6)? I am asking this because I once saw your post here advising somebody that he should go for EW10 series which are more trouble free.I apologise for my mistake, if i have used the words "more trouble-free" to describe EW10 against XU10. Both were used in D9 (1999-2004 in Europe). You need to know which of them you want? Phase I (D8) or phase II (D9 or facelifted). 1998 model is D8. You cant get EW10 in it. So, that rules out choice of engine between the EW10 & XU10. D8 has petrol I4 1.6L (XU5), 1.8L (XU7), 2.0L (XU10, including HPI & Turbo). But i would avoid the HPI and Turbo. You can still get XU10 in the facelifted 406, if you can afford the D9, since the phase I is cheaper. Like i said, nothing is wrong with XU10. Except that another engine, EW10, succeeeded it, which was not only installed in D9, but also in 307, 407 & and few 607. Ikenna. |
I applied for renewal online on July 30th, this year 2012, and got the renewed driver's licence just last month. Do the counting. The sooner you start, the better for you. Because at a point, the temporary driver's licence given to me after the data/physical capture was taken, got expired two months before the original was ready. By the way, don't bother going for the manual one or giving anyone money and passport to process driver's licence for you. Because it has been stopped in the whole federation long time ago. Do that and know you have a fake licence. Doubt me? Log onto driver's licence renewal & fresh application site, key in the licence number on that fake licence and see if its upto date or even exist in their data. Ikenna. |
tundesto: You stress here that EW10 engine is recommended for all intending buyers of Peugeot 406 from year 2001 to 2004. I want to ask if other earlier versions of engine i.e 1995-2000 are not good at all or manageable. Please allay my fears as those 2001 and above Peugeot 406 are priced above my budget and I love the ride so much. I am somebody who can maintain things well.I believe you were referring to the XU10 series. When you said "earlier versions" '95-'00, it didnt specify if you are refering to D8 or D9. From '95-'00, various engines were installed in both D8 & D9: XU5, XU7, XU10 series(including turbo), EW10 series, EW12 (very rare), TD & HDIs (Diesels) & ES9 series (V6s). XU10 vs EW10: There is nothing wrong with XU10. Only difference is that EW10 is an improvement on XU10, hence, you cant get EW10 in D8. EW10 has more engine torque and hp than the XU10. But do know that the margin is very small to be much significant. But the fuel economy appears to be the same, hence, you gain more power with the same fuel economy of the other. An improvement on the other means its more refined. But doesnt mean its more durable. But when it comes to the best economy car among them, the EW10 doesnt come close to the TD and HDIs. I mean, with a full tank of fuel (70 litres) of HDI 406, it can take you tro-and-fro, from Sokoto to Rivers state, and back to Sokoto, on one full tank. That is, one full tank of HDI 406 can cover more than 2000 km. Go figure. But to own a HDI 406, you need to be ready to do the repairs yourself and be sourcing for the parts in Europe. But do know that the HDIs are more durable than other petrol engines, be it the V6s. When it comes to power, you have the option of EW12 and ES9 series. The EW12 is the only I4 Petrol engine in 406 with high power for someone that loves power but minds fuel economy. But very few D9 got that engine. Very rare, difficult to find one for sale. But the 407 and 607 have the engine abundantly. But if you want extreme power that will blow you off and keep constant smile on your face when in action, then either of the two ES9 series (ES9J4 & ES9J4S) will do that for you. But will cost you fuel economy when driven hard in city. But not everyone would mind. Since D9 comes with both XU10 & EW10, its natural that people would prefer the refined or improved one. But in terms of reliability & durability, all are the same. But do note that there were very few cases people complained the XU series in their D8 were oil burners and few suffered ECU failures. But they didnt state the series in Particular: XU5, XU7 or XU10. But like i said, only few cases. Ikenna. |

Hi all, The nomination ended yesterday, 15/12/2012. And only one member, Siena, was nominated, which automatically makes the nominee the winner, and has already been declared the winner by the Administrator. Therefore, SIENA is the Car Talk Poster of the year 2012. Congrats! Moderator. |
Will update soon. Moderator. |
Nominations has finally ended. Only one member was nominated: Siena. Moderator. |
obamat: @Sienna,You must not have to prove what you have witnessed with any picture, because its not an impossible thing. Some of us simply refused to believe because the conversion was done in Nigeria, by a Nigerian. After all, nothing as good as this comes out of Nigeria. But it wouldnt have been a difficult thing to believe if this conversion took place in the western world. After all, they know better than us. So if they cant do it, who are we to even give it a trial?! Smh! Before i left East in 2008, most mechanics & welders were modifying and swapping in Renault drive shafts into Japanese cars. They claimed the Renault drive shafts were better designed to last longer and they really do, they claimed. Many Japs owners started converting theirs and at a point, Renault drive shaft became a scarce commodity. When i came to Abuja, i realised that no one knew about such conversions. This goes a long way to tell one how creative and good Nigerians can be: formal education or not. It could take some of us years of training to learn a particular skill. But for few, all they need to do is to look at it, get to work and the work will be done in few hours, without any training on that job or skill. Though, the gifted fellow still need to develop his talent. We are all gifted. Its left for us to put our gifts into use. A gifted fellow in auto mechanics wont find it difficult to get a job done, which a trained one might find it difficult to accomplish or complete in time, irrespective of level of formal education or exposure. If we have problem with that, turn to God and ask him "Why?". The only difference between the two individuals is that the gifted one without any formal training will have the finished job look untidy or will be poorly packaged, while the reverse will be the case for the fellow with formal training. If I were to do the conversion myself, i would swap in an EFI engine, a V6 one. Because, i can be able to interprete the wiring diagram and transplant the engine harness, ECU(s) and other EFI components, modify and connect them to work as factory or close to factory. But i guess that would be a problem for those mechanics, hence, they opted for fuel carburreted engine. But there is nothing wrong with a well tuned carburetor engine. A well tuned one can give more than 27 mpg, depending on the load its carrying. But how many of EFI vehicles in Nigeria still average more than 20 mpg? As soon as they cross and enter our shores, their engine management will be abused, such that carburetor engines will get better mpg than them. Honestly, if you ask me, i will tell you Nigeria doesnt deserve EFI cars. We are better off with carburetor, sorry to say this. Because any quack mechanic can easily fix one. But then, this section maynot exist. Because most of us are here because we need solutions to the nightmares our EFI vehicles are giving us after been abused or when our mechanics cant figured out the culprits causing the issues. But, there is nothing wrong with EFI either. It just that we are yet to appreciate the goodies of EFI, hence, the OBD & DIY. Am not the Op, but am not sure i would post any photo here anymore to convince anyone or prove my point,if i was him. I take pictures whenever am working on my car, and usually post them if necessary. But in this case, i wouldnt. Its upto Op to decide, its his thread. But then, "Blessed are those who didnt see, but believed!" . You can read your Bible, if you are interested in the source. Ikenna. |
Elsafema: When am in motion the master cylinder will apply it self and put the car to stop without me aplying break and it wil not go untill i lose and retait the nuts on the master pls adviseI would rekit the master cylinder. A cheap job. The Cylinder pinion is no longer returning. Sometimes, cleaning the cylinder (inside) fixes it. But will be wise to replace those seal and pump rubbers. Make sure the spring inside the cylinder is working well. While you are at it, check to be sure the brake booster (servo) vacuum line is intact. Though if it develops leak, the brake pedal will be very hard to depress. By the way, i hope no one has put a small paper in the pinion hole where the brake pedal rod goes in? Some do that to close the gap when they fail to bleed brake properly. I cant think of anyother thing that could be the culprit. Usually, brake master cylinder is the cause, unless your car brake system is different from what i already know. Am not really into Japs. Ikenna. |
150GB is way too much... I partioned just 40GB for daigbox and I have almost 25GB free. 50 to 60 GB will do just fine considering future updates etc
Ok. Will do that. Thanks for the tips. Ikenna. |
Am also working on getting a windows 8 laptop too, next week. Will partition about 150 GB, out of the 400 GB HDD, for the windows xp. The rest, 250 GB HDD, will be left for the windows 8. I hope the diagbox runs fine on it. Ikenna. |
![]() My scanner is fine o. Unfortunately I have not been able to unlock the dealer options yet... things like ATF counter reset tool, ECU update tools and the calibration tools. Still searching around online for help. Don't mind paying to have these options unlocked. Do you have any clue where I can find help? I've also tried Aussiefrogs...
Try this: http://www.peugeotforums.com/forums/general-discussion-2/peugeot-planet-tips-tricks-9227/ You can as well register in the forum: http://www.peugeotforums.com/forums/general-discussion-2/ Ikenna. |
I think the connectivity issue had to do with the newer versions of the Diagbox. So I downgraded my diagbox version and its connecting quite fine now.
Downgraded? Newer version? Abeg explain. Is yours windows xp version or Windows 7? Am asking all these because i plan to get the diagbox by end of this month, which i have discussed with bigx. Can it be installed on windows 8 laptop? Ikenna. |
The parent Software Suite for Peugeot and Citroen is called Diagbox. Just like the parent software Suite for Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint etc is called Microsoft Office. Then within the Diagbox Suíte, The software for Citroen is called Lexia, while that for Peugeot is called PP2000. The scantool hardware for both Peugeot and citroen remains the same as far as I know. however you have to choose PP2000 to scan a Pug, or Lexia to scan a Citroen. That notwithstanding, i think any Peugeot dealer worth his onions should know both lexia and PP2000 since they come together in the same software suite Hope I made sense. I'm not so good at explaining things.
Your explanation was very elementary. Quite clear to understand. Didnt know the differences before. Thanks. I can see now that i was really speaking French to the poor guys at ASD motors. ![]() Ikenna. |
Lolz.... Its not just in abuja o. Even Autostar in Enugu does not have the full dealer software (according to an insider sha) though I think they have Lexia but not the full dealer version as you can atleast get your car scanned there. This remphasizes the problem I have with Nigeria. Even when you take you Pug to some premium dealerships like ASD or Autostar, you pay exorbitant amounts for sub standard services. So how will ASD diagnose a Pug with the CEL on?? Wish someone as meticulous as Siena would open an Auto workshop in Naija. I'll be his first custome no matter how expensive...
I gathered that the pp2000 doesn't work on some 307 models. Could be the reason why yours refused to connect. Or has it started connecting with the ECU? Ikenna. |
bigx: Lol, lexia 3 is the software for Citroen Models, if they've any idea they'd be more familiar with Peugeot planet 2000 or Diagbox. Is Lexia 3 not the same with PP2000/Diagbox? Ikenna. |
I was passing ASD motors at Area 7 this morning, so i decided to peep in. I walked straight to their store and asked them if they have Lexia 3 and how much. They were just staring at me as if i was speaking French. Are they not suppose to understand French sef?! Lol! Anyway, i was suprised to see brand new 406 & 206 in their show room for sale. Hmm! Thought their productions have stopped. Probably old stock. Ikenna. |
Ogojohn: SEEMS EVERYONE HERE ON THIS THREAD IS AN EXPERT. BUT I HAVE ONCE SEEN THAT SMALL FREE LANDER AT A MECHANIC WORKSHOP AT ONITSHA WITH A NISSAN BLUE BIRD ENGINE. ALTHOUGH I DD NOT SEE ITS MOVEMENT BUT THEY WERE JUST DOING BODY WORK ON THE VEHICLE AND I WAS CURIOUS TO KNOW HOW THE CHANGE OVER WAS MADE BUT I DD NOT SUCCEED TO MEET THE OWNER. THE STRANGE PATH OF IT IS THAT THE VEHICLE WAS WITH A FOREIGN REGISTERED PLATE NUMBER. GUINEA WEST AFRICA.Never underestimate mechanics at Tinker, Coal Camp-Enugu and Mgbuka- Obosi, close to Onitsha. I grew up in the East and i can vouch for them for what i have seen them do. Science doesnt have answers to all our problems. Thats why the words "God & Faith" exist in the Bible and Dictionary. My only issue with the conversion is "Why 2.0 I4 for a Freelander?" Funny enough, Freelander comes with factory I4 too. As for the conversion, that something is impossible to one, doesn't mean its impossible to another. Those Tinka and Mgbuka guys might be illitrates not to understand science behind EFI electrics, but when it comes to pure mechanicals, they are something else. Even a dead part or component can be reconditioned there and would still work like new. You would know, if you are familiar with those two places. Ikenna. |
still available. Ikenna. |
Ikenna thanks oo. The 406 coupe's V6 engine is well known to be a fuel guzzler. It has nothing to do wit the aerodynamics of the car. I will likely be getting a 4l version this coming January. This is one car I know I've fallen in love with.
Ok. But you can as well check out these reviews, below, on 406 coupe, if you haven't done so. http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/peugeot/406/ Ikenna. |

aieromon: Moderator,if its the same car we know about, then permit valuable contributions from the same guys that were critical about the facelift working out in the first place.Valuable contributions? Am sorry, you call that mockery going on in the other thread "valuable contributions"? And you want me in all fairness, allow the mockery to be carried over to this thread? Its so unfortunate that those of us, myself included, that know much about cars are seriously widening the gap between "those that know" and "those that want to know". Its not healthy for the section. I realised the mistake we all have been doing and am doing my best to correct them. The conversion was already done before he created that thread. There shouldn't have been room to make have made jest of him or "I told you so". From his posts, one could see how innocent he was. Instead of been helpful, we ended up chasing him away there, such that he had to open another thread, which he is yet to tell the house if actually its the same vehicle we are talking about, anyway. If not the way he was treated there, would he not have continued or updated that thread by now? What we are doing to him is enough to chase him out of this section for good, simply because we are opportune or gifted to know stuffs about cars better than he does. This section was created to close that huge gap, to help, to encourage DIY and to discuss cars generally. Please, lets all work on that. So, please, am not stopping anyone from giving "valuable contribution". If you suspect it could be the same vehicle, all you need to do is "ask", and take it from there. Or we can choose not to comment, if he doesn't want to come clean with the house. Which we caused, anyway. Ikenna. |
