thatguystephen: With my experience in fuel technology and systems and what has been proven to work for a lot of people,I thought it was only right to share. If I knew this and kept quiet on it and you later came to find out,how would you look at me?You don't get it. Whatever you choose to do on this thread, do not advertize your product here. Do that in Autos section please. And for your information, am not the one you need to lecture on what my owner's manual says. Am just trying to be as polite as i can. Ikenna. |
French & Italian Car Day, in Los Angeles, California, USA. It took place yesterday, 05/11/2012. http://www.505turbo.com/forum/index.php?/topic/2429-french-italian-car-show-los-angeles-2012/#entry17814 Enjoy. Ikenna. |
thatguystephen: If the engines runs normally but just consumes too much fuel then i suggest you get it to a scan to isolate the problem. Increased fuel consumption is normally a result of bad injectors, weak coil, spark plugs, fuel and air filters or carbon deposits in the engine. Also, when was the last time your car had a tune up?Make sure your tires are properly inflated. Filling up at the pump instead of buying in small quantities can make you some savings. Have you met Xtreme Fuel Treatment yet?I have recorded savings in different engines from between 15 percent to about 65 percent. Hope this helpsI hope you didn't create this thread to indirectly advertise your goods? Don't blame anyone if you get yourself banned. Ikenna. |

God bless
Your car is running thirsty because the thermostat was removed. You need to get the thermostat back to the thermostat housing. Test the thermostat before you put it back, i mean the one removed. How to test the thermostat, has been treated here. Find it and read. If you can get a new one, of the same part number or degree celsius removed, better. Thermostat or no thermostat, has nothing to do with loss of fluid in the cooling system. Thats what the clown should have dealt with, and not removing the thermostat or wondering why it hasnt been removed all the while as "Nigerian used". This thing with Nigerians and thermostat removal theory! What a mindset! There must be a leakage, that causes the reduction or low fluid in the system. It could be a leaking radiator, worn radiator/expansion bottle cap seal, leaking hose, leaking head gasket, unclamped lines/hoses,etc. Like i said, he needs to find it. If he is not good enough, find a better clown or a true mechanic. I believe your radiator fans are spinning constantly. Of course, for him to have thought of thermostat in the system as a bad thing, he would see a radiator fan working as factory as weird. So, he would connect them to spin constantly. Dont bother to ask me how i knew, because its what they do. It will sound weird to me if your fans still spin as factory designed. Get those fans back to how the manufacturer of that car designed it. Also, if you want to get rid of rich running, mix water and coolant in the system 50:50. And finally, make sure someone bleeds the cooling system, when the whole job is done. If not, the system, including the engine, will overheat like HELL! Goodluck. Ikenna |

wablet: I just bought Peugeot 607 model 2001 and its manual transmission. For proper maintenance, what type of engine oil, brake fluid, tranny fluid can I use. I tried reading the owner's manual but it was written in German. Moreover,i want to procure a scanner: what type should I buy. ThanksCongrats! The factory/recommended engine oil should be there in the owners manual. Even with the German language, i believe you can still tell the grade number. Notwithstanding, the engine oil grade should also be somewhere in the engine bay. Start with the oil filler cap. When you find it, i would advice you use TOTAL oil. Peugeot recommends TOTAL engine oil for all their engines. By the way, whats the engine type or model? As for the tranny fluid, that should also be in the owners manual. But since its manual transmission, you can choose between 85W 140 or 85W 90. The former is thicker or heavier, while the latter is thinner or lighter. I use the former in my car, which is TOTAL, of course. Like i said, Peugeot recommends Shell, Elf and TOTAL oil for their products. I use TOTAL products, be it engine oil, tranny oil or Coolant. As for the scanner, buy the PP2000 (Peugeot Planet 2000), otherwise known as Diagbox. Its specifically produced for Peugeot and Citroen vehicles. It does more than scanning. Like programming of new keys or BSI kits, updating of engine ECUs via online etc. Its a must tool for every modern Peugeot car owner. You will understand when you have it. Google it for more info. Am surprised that no one has mentioned what would be the state of the engine of an affected vehicle. Its very possible that water would soak/flow into the combustion chambers via airbox. The butterfly in the throttle body is not air-tight or sealed off when its closed. Water would pass it, depending on the pressure. Though, air goes into the chambers via intake valves, but it may not guarantee that water wont find its way into those chambers. If water goes into the combustion chambers, it will gradually rust the chambers and may soak down into the crankcase, depending on the pressure. That means, such vehicle's engine will have to be opened/set apart, seals & bearings replaced, oil pump replaced, etc, before coupling it back. Am not sure I would want to go down that road to own a tokunbo car, no matter how cheap the vehicle would be. Ikenna. |

@ Chucky234 & Platinumricky. Am surprised you guys have carried over Politics section to this section, where everyone enjoys throwing insults here and there. Sometimes i wonder if adults still comment in that section. Please guys, you must not convince anyone. I have come to learn that too, when someone accused me of being boastfull, simply because i do use my experiences and issues with my car to let people know the implication or what might befall them if they choose to go a particular direction. Well, it's hard to do, but i have learnt to let people be. Keeping silent doesnt mean you have changed what i strongly believed in, but no point trying to prove anything to one. Life is choice. @ Chuky234, You appear to be well informed in your field, but you do sound off track here. It appears you dont even know what makes up a vehicle? You keep mentioning the body, as if thats all a vehicle is made of. Now, lets put it this way. If you have an EFI vehicle, locate the ECU of the vehicle, pour water into it (with the ECU wiring connector not detached and the battery terminals still connected), allow it to dry, and then start the car. Whatever happens, come back to tell us. You can even try it on the simple electric components like relays. You can even try it on the instrument cluster like Siena had said. If the cluster survive a week still working perfectly, come back and correct me. A lot of people have lost their vehicle ECUs to water, while steam washing their engine bays, likewise the Alternators. Your ECU might not die immediately, but will start malfunctioning till it eventually gives up. Water has entered my car Injection ECU twice. Yes, it's still working. But it has starting giving sign of failure. It's a question of time before it finally gives up. I don't think anyone would want to purchase a tokunbo car, only to be told to replace everything electrical in that car before he could use the car. Chucky234, you really have a lot to learn about modern cars. Thats what i think. Ikenna. |
Amaizu: Ikenna,It's a universal filter, designed to fit every EFI car/SUV/crossover/Van,etc. There are some designed for non EFI engines as well (non cone filters). Ikenna |
peace777: I have a Peugeot 607.The car develop a fault.I know nothing about the HDI engines. My fear is that even the Peugeot dealerships in Nigeria maynot be of much help too. They dont produce or sell brand new diesel Peugeots. So they maynot invest that much in how to fix them. Have you tried aussiefrogs? Most of the members drive HDI Peugeots. You will get all the help you need there. www.aussiefrogs.com Meanwhile, lets hope someone here can help . Ikenna. |
obawale: HI IKENNA,I don't sell the filter. I have a friend in US through which i make purchases of car parts from US. He bought mine $27.18. Then shipping cost $20.50. So both the filter and the shipping cost $47.68. Thats about N7,000 NGN. Very cheap. There are cheaper ones too, depending on the size of the intake tube. If you know or have anyone there, you can ask and send money to the person to buy them for you. From what he told me, the universal cone filter is available in every car spare parts shop in US, including the popular brand K&N. They are also available on Ebay on daily basis. But am not sure yet if paypal is accessible to Nigerians. Ikenna. |
Ikenna351: My daily driver,Peugeot 605 V6, clutch cable broke this morning on my way to work. Arrh! Though, i still drove it like that, clutchless, back home.Me, being me, I knew i couldn't sleep if that clutch cable is not replaced. So, around 8pm tonite, i put on my work cloth, took my torchlight, opened the bonnet and work started. In less than 1 hour, the work was done. I even adjusted the cable, better than the broken cable was before. The car's clutch pedal now smoothly depresses and releases. Phew! To be honest, tonite was my first time of replacing clutch cable in my life, all by myself. It has always been the hydraulic clutch system. All i did was to look at it and i knew what to do. So much reasons i like manual transmission! Ikenna. |
My daily driver,Peugeot 605 V6, clutch cable broke this morning on my way to work. Arrh! Though, i still drove it like that, clutchless, back home. Luckily, i have a spare clutch cable of the car, which has always been in the boot. I may not have time to replace it till weekend. My BABY, my weekend car, is there anyway. Ikenna. |
Does your Car turn heads when you drive or packed in a public place? How many times do you see people staring at your car for the good reasons? Have you ever come out to drive out, only to see one or two persons taking pictures of your ride? How does that make you feel? Have you ever been pulled over by a police, Road Safety or VIO officer, only for you to discover that he purposely did that to feed his eyes? On the other hand, does your car turn heads for the wrong reasons? I read about a guy that drives some rickety looking car that its exhaust is so loud that it sets off people's car alarms everytime he pulls into a car park. ![]() What's your own story? Ikenna. |
If you have a failed engine, and you are given an option to choose between an Aftermarket brand new engine from China and a Tokunbo engine in MINT condition in Nigerian market, which would you choose? Ikenna. |
Life can be so boring when everything seems perfect. A trouble-free car, without any driving pleasure been derived, will after a long time become so boring that the owner would get rid of it, after months,2 or 3 years of ownership. What makes you keep a car for good is not how reliable the car is or not, but the smiles it put on your face each time you find yourself behind that wheel. Ever wondered why almost every car owner in Nigeria has become a car dealer? They buy today, drive it today and tomorrow, resale it the 3rd day and buy another. The saga continues. What makes you love someone is because of his/her imperfection. Your babe or wife will be so boring to you if she doesent have that weird thing she does or say that you find attractive. The same is applicable to cars. I dont know anything about the Chrysler 300, but by the car looks, it will cost more to purchase, maintain and fuel. If you think you can live with that, considering how heavy your wallet is, go ahead. You dont need anyone to tell you what makes you happy or determine your happiness for you. You should also know that you may have to be sourcing that car parts outside Nigeria. If you think you can deal with that, then you know what to do. Have you checked to know if there is any good workshop around where you stay that can fix the car when something goes wrong? Because, something must go wrong someday. You cannot stop it from happening. You can only prevent it from breaking down completely with preventative maintenance. You also need to consider that you will need to work on that car yourself, to save yourself from Nigerain mechanics and rewire nightmares. It might not be everything, but with your personal OBD II scanner, you can find out the culprits that are giving issues to the car and be able to replace some some parts yourself with ease. Like i said, you need to do your home work well and be ready to take preventative maintenance seriously with such a car. Performance cars need constant attention, to give you that driving pleasure you desired or bargained for. Ikenna. |
The car has seriously suffered.lol. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with more than the last 3 years history of the car. It was used as a government vehicle for about 4 yrs before then and trust government drivers to always go to the cheapest (& very unreliable) mechanics and look for the easy way out always without Oga's full knowledge. no maintenance culture whatsoever. It was during that period that a lot of havoc was wrecked to that car under the hood. For starters, i dunno which 'wise' person decided to convert the car from an injector fuel system to carburretor. That's even aside from the thermostat thing and all. Due to some recent developments, I'm still waiting to see if I'll really get to use it or another car before starting out on full "restoration" of that vehicle, coz i like the car.
Are you saying the engine is no longer electronically controlled (EFI)? That it has been converted to carburretor? If that is the case, then the engine is no longer managed or controlled by ECU. So, that could be the reason the o2 and cts were disconnected or butchered out. Dont bother about reconnecting or re-installing them, because they got no where to go or anywork to do any more. Unless, there exist a fuel carburreted engine that needs cts and o2 sensors to operate, i do not know of. It could be possible, but am yet to see one. But you still need to re-install the thermostat and reconnect the fans to work as factory. Goodluck. Ikenna. |
Hi all, I ordered a universal cone air filter via a friend in USA, who purchased and shipped it to me last Monday (4 days ago). I want to replace or modify it to gain more power and increase the fuel economy. Its actually a race filter for performance. Attached is the filter. The filter is on its way. Below is the site i made the purchase: http://www.spectreperformance.com/index.php/catalog/air-filters/air-filters-racing-cone.html Below, you will find threads in Northern American Peugeot forum i belonged to, where some 505 V6 owners have modified theirs to cone air filter and gained more power, with improved fuel economy and impressive engine note. http://www.505turbo.com/forum/index.php?/topic/2321-air-filter-for-v6/#entry17689 http://www.505turbo.com/forum/index.php?/topic/1930-air-filter-replacement/page__hl__filter It can be fitted in any car, in case you are wondering. The price is $30 USD. There is another brand which appears to be more expensive. Its K&N. You can google it. You can find cheaper ones here, between $9 - $19 USD, depending on the size of your intake tube. http://www.stylintrucks.com/parts/universal_cone_air_filters_by_spectre_performance/1104000088_24175.aspx Mine is 3" and the 3" cone air filter cost $19 or so. But i decided to buy the multi sized one that can size 3", 3.5" and 4", so that i can use it on any other car, if i want to. I cant wait to gain more power on that V6, with less fuel consumption. And most importantly, More fun! If you are looking for an upgrade for your car for better performance, this is one of them. Will keep you guys updated on the outcome, as soon as it arrives and i swap it in. Ikenna.

Lol! @ Platinumricky. @ immune#1, I agree with you on your write up except one: No OBD II scanner for every car owner. I strongly disagree with you on that. There is nothing wrong with DIY ( Do it Yourself) . Dont discourage it. There is nothing wrong with a car owner finding out by himself/herself what is wrong with his vehicle. Even if he/she cant do the replacement of the faulty part(s), at least he can take it to a mechanic to check the very failed part the scanner indicated or replace it for him, to prevent the trial and error our mechanics engage in. Only the OBD II scanner will make it easy for a non-technical minded person to be able to do so and understand his or her car better. OBD II scanner was not invented for the mechanics or rewires only, its also a DIY tool. Even with my technical-how on cars, i still take my cars to a mechanic to fix sometimes, depending on what that is, but must not be electrical. I would take my car to a mechanic to change brake pad for me, if i feel i dont have that strength to do it at that time, but under my supervision or being watchful so that he doesnt touch where i wouldnt want him to. There are some mechanical parts that i donot have the tools to replace them yet. In that case, i will take it to him to replace for me or i simply buy the tool and do it myself, if i can afford it at the moment. But i do the troubleshooting myself. And anything that concerns electricals, i troubleshoot and fix it myself, no matter how long it takes. So, i take exception to that your opinion "No OBD scanner for non-technically savvy car owners" , unless thats not what you meant. With the scanner, they will become one and properly man their vehicles. And please, i believe this Car Talk section was created for the this: DIY. For people to learn, have better understanding of their vehicles and possibly learn how to fix some issues with their vehicles. It was created for vehicle owners, aspiring future vehicle owners and including the auto mechanics/rewires. Ikenna. |
@ Amaizu, Yes, bigx was right. You need to be sure that the thermostat is still there and test if its working. Boiling it in a pot water is one of the method of testing thermostat. Its the best method, since you get to see for yourself if the thermostat still opens or not, stuck opened, stuck closed or at what temperature it opens (if you test it with thermometer). The temp at which the thermostat opens is engraved on it. Mine is 79 degrees. There is another method to check if the thermostat is still there and working, without removing the thermostat and testing off the car. The radiator has two big hoses: upper and lower hoses. When the engine is cold (before first start in the morning), start the car and allow it to idle. After 3 mins of idling, touch the upper hose. It should feel warm or hot. Also feel the lower hose, it should be cold. After 5 mins of idling or so, the upper hose will become very hot, but the lower hose will still be cold. Go and check the temperature guage on instrument cluster. As soon as it gets to 90 C or the needle reaches the middle of the guage, go back to the engine bay and touch the lower radiator hose, it should get hot by now, meaning the thermostat has opened. Thats when the fans is supposed to start spinning and will go off after a minute of spinning, pending when the temp tries to exceed the middle of the temp guage, which might take 5 mins or so. But if the car is in motion (not below 40km/h), the fans will remain off untill the car becomes stationary again. If the lower hose becomes warm at the low temp, then either the thermostat has been removed or its stuck open. If the lower hose remains cold at 90 C, then the thermostat is stuck closed. Ikenna |
In addition to earlier comments, it depends on d type of road you're plying With all electric gadgets turned off (traction, stability etc) fwd fares better on roads with a lot of sharp bends. RWD rides tend to spin out But when under strictly monitored conditions ( 2.8-liters maximum displacement, 225 to 275 hp power) comparing fwd mazda6s to rwd bmws and lexuses or even d awd audis.... D mazda6 outruns them all. That's on even roads tho
See how this poster twisted this post just to make It look as if FWD is an improvement on RWD. You said Mazda6 FWD outruns RWD BMWs and even AWD Audis. Can you be that biased? Are you comparing 2.8 litre (probably a v6) FWD Mazda with 1.8 litre I-4 RWD BMW? Why didnt you state the engine sizes, hp and maximum engine torques of both cars and lets understand you better. The simply truth is that most car manufacturers changed to FWD vehicles because they are cheaper to produce, compared to RWD configuration. The less the cost of production, the more the profit. Benz and BMW maintained RWD configurations when other brands shifted to FWD, because they have fans that are still willing to spend more to buy those their products that cost more to produce, knowing what they gain driving them.
