CrimeNigerian Swindled Us$27m by Ikomi(op): 7:37pm On Feb 21, 2009
NEW YORK - A NIGERIAN man has been charged with trying to swindle nearly US$27 million (S$41.3 million) from a Citibank account in New York held by Ethiopia's central bank.

Paul Gabriel Amos, 37, worked the scheme by sending fake documents to Citibank in New York where the National Bank of Ethiopia kept funds, purporting to authorise money transfers to accounts that he and co-conspirators controlled, according to the US Attorney's office for the Southern District of New York.

Amos pleaded not guilty on Friday in Federal District Court in Manhattan to one count of conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud.

He had been living in Singapore and was arrested last month as he tried to enter the US, prosecutors said.

A spokesman for the Ethiopian Embassy in Washington told the New York Times: 'We are aware of this unfortunate story.' He would not comment further.

Amos and his co-conspirators made wire transfers to accounts in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Australia, China, Cyprus and the US, federal prosecutors said. It was a variation on a very common scheme where someone overseas tries to access a person's bank account.

The fraud was uncovered after banks where the conspirators held accounts returned money to Citibank because they had been unable to process the transactions, and the National Bank of Ethiopia did not recognise the transactions, according to a complaint signed by Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Bryan Trebelhorn.

A spokesman for Citigroup, the parent company of Citibank, told the Times the company had worked with law enforcement on the case and was pleased with the arrest.

'Citi constantly reviews and upgrades its physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to detect, prevent and mitigate theft,' said the spokesman, who was not named. -- AP

RomanceTall Man Complains He's Short On Women by Ikomi(op): 7:28pm On Feb 21, 2009
A lanky man recently admitted he has lied about his height in order to meet women and find a spouse, but yet he's still unhappy.

Zhang Yonggan, 44, stands 206 cm tall, or 6 feet 9 inches, and lives in Liuyang, Hunan province.

He said he's often told people that he's 196 cm when asked about his height.

Zhang discussed his dilemma with the local media and explained how he has scared away many girls because of his height.

Zhang married in 1988 but got divorced four years later because his wife was 162 cm tall and not a good match.

He's been unable to purchase clothes or shoes for years and cannot understand why he's so tall as his parents are both about 160 cm tall.

Who says crazy things dont happen undecided

lol, cannibals in abia state? i don't think so girl. Actually i've been to one of the towns to which that practice has been widely attributed to. And i kinda noticed the way some of them were looking at me and my fat friend. I was so scared that i nearly piss in my pant. The looks on thier faces were like '' this guys are gonna make a great barbecue '', but i think it was more of a psychological warfare on our part. So, i don't think they exist(existed) anywhere near abia state.
mana i ga e muru anya ka azu !!! shocked shocked
U got it all wrong, they still exist. U and ur fat friend were lucky, guess they've just had a meal, or they have alot in store, when u and ur fat friend arrived there.

Maybe u should go live there for a month or a week, within that period they would definately be hungry again. Then ur story would change to something like:

These guys were there beating drums, dancing round and round and round. With some hefty guys turning my fat friend on a big log, making sure she only got roasted and not burnt. cheesy

Listen sarah its got an economic benefit it would make a good story, many people would buy ur book. cheesy

where in Abia people still eat human being?
Confi there is a simple way to find out.

Start from one border of Abia state and walk - dont take any mode of transportation - just walk from one border to the other.

Whereever you are eaten within that state, then you would have gotten a true answer to your question. And if you still can after you have been eaten, please come and give us a situation report.  cheesy

KarmaMod:
Osisi perhaps you can translate ikomi's gibberish for me.
I would very much plead to you not to be insulting but argue constructively, and if your argument is good enough be sure I would accept it.

What do u see as right and what do u see as wrong? Thats a question I would answer straight away, before u brand me as psychothic.

Any action that is taking for the societal good either it be in the field of science, art or politics in my view is good.

Anything that does not conform to this societal good is invariably incorrigible.

1. I don't see virginity restoration doing the society any good. Its just a selfish move by an individual to please a selfish if not a senseless interest.

2. Breast implant I also see in this light. Give me one good societal good a breast implant does.

3. Fertilization, there is always a clamor that some people are dying of hunger. Tell me why not feed those hungry mouth, rather than a research to satisfy one woman's desire. When I say cloning Miche, Mussolini, Idi Amin and Hitler. Situations u are born into could make u do very terrible things, as a consequence. If u know at least the story of Hitler.

4. Cloning. I dont even want to talk about that.

5. I only condone abortion in the case of rape. But for any other reason its down right stupid. Everyone should know the consequence of there action before they even get into it.

The way u sound u would have an abortion if need be, and if also need be u would not mind fertilisation for ur wrongdoings.  angry

Look at her weirdest crap (oyibo).

Nature has its cause and reasons believe it or not, if it was not meant to be don't force it.

@Osisi
Osisi ur just one talented woman that taps on the fact that sex, and any sex related issue sells, to get ur audience. I think ur survey is going well, now u know that if u start a sex related magazine u would sell. A thread u started just today has already gotten to 5 pages already.

@Topic
Am not sure where u got ur story from, but I dont really see its actuality.

Although honestly I think science sometimes goes too far, I would only name a few:

1. Vitro Fertilization- How can a woman be fertilised to have a baby. Nature that made her infertile, are we trying to proof it wrong? One day they would say another Hitler, Mussolini or Idi Amin is born. Why wont it happen when u have given baby to the wrong woman. I still think adoption is okay. At least a child that was meant to come to earth is on earth but with different guardian.

2. Breast Implant- How can someone that never had any, or used hers wrongly by making it a feeding bottle for men hope to get back in shape.  True mothers rarely go for implants, at least they see the reason why its flat - a child is born.

3. Cloning- I really think this is science gone wrong.

4. Sex Change- Av met a she male once. Heaven knows I hated him with every ounce of my being.

One thing I have always stood by although the catholic church is against is abortion. There is no reason to have a baby u don't really want, but that does not leave the fact that you've committed murder first degree.

@Posters
Does anyone know where I could pay for some cloning to be done, since there is nothing I can do to stop it, it has come to stay.

Imagine me having a cloned Hauwa, Osisi and Michebaby. You know they wont by any chance question my authority. When I say sit down, they would not even move, and they would be all sitting closely together on one three sitter chair while we are all at the sitting room watching tv, as my wives. Although I would have a question for the scientist, would the thing taste the same like that of the real Hauwa, Osisi and Miche - If they know what I mean.  angry
