Barezzi:Thank you @Barezzi, the best intentions are always spoilt by our common enemy called time. Yes, I will make them neater, bigger fish to fry first. |
Housed back-up generator. We fashioned a fan for drawing cooling air and pushing out exhaust gases into the sound baffling. Even though I don't intend to use it much, the noise reduction from the simple measures was surprising. The fan itself is powered by the gen, so there is no chance of overheating / fire. (the black marks on the exhaust holes are oil stains rather than burning foam )

Isolator, breakers and Charge Controller. The two green lights means good news from solar array and battery state.

UV rated cabling and connectors

Brackets for tilt, cooling and securing

both arrays

Panels in situ.

salam12:That's great news. I'll keep a closer eye on it with logging but its good to know that the batteries can be fast charged when necessary. ![]() |
Barezzi:@Barezzi, the CC I'm using is capable of 60A. In fact during the wet and cloudy month of June that I was home, the highest I saw was about 22A on each CC on a visual check that things were working. I'll make use of the logging feature to confirm. On my short visit this month, I was too busy figuring out what the ****** I'd entrusted it all to had done to my inverter. The good news was that because I used dedicated CCs instead of the integrated pwm charger on the inverter, the batteries were on float. The bad news was that I could not make use of fully charged batteries because the inverter would not power up ( ******** had been fiddling with the connectors for the detachable display panel. The CCs have performed well so far, the only regret is they didn't tell me they were about to launch a snazzier looking version so mine looks dated compared to the new design below.

My brothers, I've been missing in action as this thread rumbles on. I actually carried out my installation in June and had all the intentions of dazzling you all with my handiwork. It was all going well until I plugged my new phone with the pictures into a socket while running a generator before completing the work. As it turned out, the gen was putting out fluctuating voltage and it promptly wrecked my new phone. That was the end of my bright idea of a photo-diary of the installation .Undeterred, I soldiered on and managed to complete the installation to just over 50% of the design capacity, before I had to get back to work. I'm hoping to add the additional panels soon. Briefly, the system design is 2 x 3kW arrays for a total of 6kW. To date I've installed 12 panels at 300W (6 per array) for a total of 3.6kW. Each array has its own charge controller serving a dedicated 48V battery bank. The two banks are then combined in parallel prior the inverter/charger. A switch-over on the main board allows me to charge the batteries through the inverter/charger from either N.E.P.A (wishful thinking) or generator on consecutive cloudy days. The inverter I'm using can automatically switch between utility (NEPA / GEN) or DC Mode (Batteries) if it detects AC power (or lack of) in about 8 milliseconds. I've sought to protect it from N.E.P.A and crazy generators with a Prag 10kVA servo stabilizer as suggested on this thread. What I could not protect it from was the custodian that was to look after it in my absence, but that is another story for later. At the same time, I replaced almost all the bulbs in the household with low power led equivalents and used time-limit switches on water heaters and pumps. It was hard work but worth it as there we were, in early June, enjoying steady, unblinking, 'clean' electricity. It was wonderful. ![]() I'll post the pictures that the phone warranty people were able to save later. |

@OP, let me summarise it for you like this, if all the mud being flung at our beloved Nigeria were based on lies, none it would stick. I'm not surprised at the unconscionable psychopathic megalomaniac bastar.ds in positions of power in Nigeria, but deluded false patriots like you, never fail to make me laugh in wonderment. Kapische? ![]() |

michylabo: So sad we've lost another brother. So sad.michylabo. Thank you ojare my broda, that is what that Seyi riff-raff doesn't understand. Gentle hints, he no understand, not-so subtle-talk o, the guy still no grab. The funny thing is, I don't think he's even in the army yet. He's just completed his NYSC service and is hoping to join. Imagine a supposed graduate of a higher institute of education (ABU) behaving like a motor park tout, threatening to kill people on the www anyhow. Bringing the same organisation he wants to join into disrepute (as if their reputation was not bad enough). And our dear 'leader of tomorrow' Seyi ( ha ha ha !) has the gall to talk about discipline and respect? I pity Nigeria if these are the type our education systems produce. I pity the Army more if they give people who cant differentiate a troll from a serious threat, their uniform. |
Seyixyz: The Military wil always deal wit civilians because of dia indisipline & disrespect..Two tinz d Military hates to d boneMy initial comment was based on the mistaken assumption that you were reacting emotionally to the loss of a comrade, but it appears you're just reflecting your core beliefs with threats of putting bullets in people's heads. Young man, respect is earned, not demanded or forced. So do us all a favour and pass that simple message on to the rest of your brain-dead, bus-burning zombie army |
Seyi, a word of advice. Not only are you being played, perversely you're also making their point for them by making threats. If none of that moves you, some may think you are dishounoring the same young man you want people to honour. ![]() |
@La mexx, you're still confused. The 'Do other payment method' (which uses credit cards) was my only course of action after a $45.00 deduction from an FX transfer. My FX transfer was bank-to-bank, but in my case, the shortfall was $45.00 (even though I subsequently found it should have been $10) hence my warning other people here. My bank had charged me at source btw. Again, you assume the choice of SKRILL with 'Do Other Payment' was down to me. I simply clicked on a link on auctionexport's website. (They would have selected the handling agency for their company and set up the urls appropriately). It was not down to me or any other end-user for that matter to choose or decide. It is completely transparent to the end-user. In my mind, I was paying auctionexport. The first time I became aware of SKRILL's involvement was in the payment confirmation e-mail. And to SKRILL's credit, as far as I know, they took nothing from the shortfall amount I paid and they had to call auctionexport on my behalf to remind them they'd forwarded my payment to autionexport when I raised a disputed transaction with SKRILL. Now bear in mind that my contract was not with SKRILL but they've gone above and beyond normal obligations to me, auctionexport on the other hand were happy to sit on my considerably large transfer and for the sake of $45 (that they could not be bothered to check even after SKRILL gave them the payment number), were willing to delay my documents and expose my purchase to the vagaries of Nigerian ports and customs charges. I will not deal with auctionexport again. |
La mexx: I did not want to comment before but before "ile naira" pass a wrong conception, I think I find some errors in his case. It is either he is a novice when it comes to FX transfer or he probably don't know how to go about it.@La mexx, you make a lot of assumptions don't you?. Where I am, we don't have to trudge to a bank to make foreign payments, you can log on and carry out a FX transfer from your account via the internet. What's more, you don't need to have a special dollar dom. account or anything like that, you simply state the amount in the desired currency and the exchange rate is shown so you know how much it is in your home currency. Simple, no? Also, no explanation has been given to me has to why $45 was deducted in my case as opposed to the $10 you mentioned. As for your comment about naija brothers, sure there are good and bad and you cannot generalise. Fhemmy and Inspired on this forum are examples of good Naija brothers in this business. Besides, I don't care about what others do, I want to get a better service from whoever it is that I have paid to do it and should be able to highlight where they can do better and tell others about what to watch out for. I have nothing to gain by 'lying'. So, humour me for a second, how did you go about paying for the $10. shortfall in your case? Did you use the 'Do Other Payment' method or not? If you did not, you should not be casting aspersions on anyone else's knowledge of FX transfers or their experiences with what is normally a simple credit-card payment. That's just basic good manners. |
@maross, let me share a real-life experience of auctionexport with you. I have taken delivery of a car from them but I can tell you that I will never use auction export again for the following reasons: You will be completely at the mercy of people who will provide very short and curt responses to reasonable queries and in the end, will ask you to send an email to their generic shipping/info/ sales email addresses. There, it will likely be picked up by someone else and you will have to go through the explanation, default reply and counter-argument process again and again and again. Once you've paid a deposit (or actually bought a vehicle), you will continually have to ask them to check their payment system for receipt of your funds and have to prove that you've sent payment before they act on anything. From their site, you can pay a deposit, get their bank wire details and 'Do other payments'. Be aware that Bank transfers to auctionexport must cater for deductions by their intermediary. The exact amount is not clear but it should be. It is auctionexports bank of choice and they should either have a fixed deduction or bear the cost (or more likely, included it in the amount indicated to the customer) The unclear deduction meant that to make up the shortfall, I had to use the 'do other payment' method to make up the shortfall as a result of deductions from my wire transfer by their intermediary bank. such payments are handled by SKRILL on behalf of auctionexport. For me, a payment made on the 29th of October with the 'Do other payment' method was only recognised on the 2nd of December after much time asking them to verify it and having had to ask SKRILL to intervene because auctionexport denied receiving it. Can you believe that from a supposedly professional, customer-focused company?. After all that, there's been no apologies, no acknowledgement that things could have been handled better, nothing, just cold indifference. There was then further drama as it appeared the car document where not sent when promised which exposed me to extra charges and vandalism/theft at the port. Completing a transaction should not be that difficult. I would take my custom elsewhere if I were you. |

@Apoti, first of all congratulations to you and your wife and the best of luck to you all. Most contributions to this thread has been positive and congratulatory but a tiny minority has been negative and abusive. Not that one should focus on the negative, but I hope you have learnt a lesson about exposing yourself to mentally unstable people by getting too personal (including pictures of wife and baby) on a faceless forum. Eku ayo, eku ewu omo o. |
ROSSIKE: Africa has to unite into one single political entity like China, and stop taking all these insults. China's population is TWICE that of Africa, yet they have one govt, one army, one constitution, and one central control of their resources. Their entire land is free of all foreign influence.True words. Maybe by the time we stop petty tribalism we can advance Nigeria, then we can move on to uniting West Africa, then East and South. Good luck with persuading the Arab-dominated Northern countries to consider you worthy of equality. |

A number of students are feared dead after suspected Islamist gunmen struck a college in north-eastern Nigeria. The students were shot dead as they slept in their dormitory at the College of Agriculture in Yobe state. North-eastern Nigeria is under a state of emergency amid an Islamic insurgency by the Boko Haram group. Boko Haram is fighting to overthrow Nigeria's government to create an Islamist state, and has launched a number of attacks on schools. The number of casualties in the latest attack is unclear but there are fears the death toll could be high. A military spokesman in Yobe state, Lazarus Eli, told Agence France-Presse news agency said the gunmen had also set fire to classrooms. The college is in the rural Gujba district. In June, Boko Haram carried out two attacks on schools in the region. At least nine children were killed in a school on the outskirts of Maiduguri, while 13 students and teachers were killed in a school in Damaturu. In July in the town of Mamudo, Islamist militants attacked dormitories with guns and explosives, killing at least 42 people, mostly students. Source http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-24322683 |
