NaijaMemes: It is not white vs black. It is country vs country.
Nigeria and America.
It's still racist. You forget Hollywood is a smorgasbord of different cultures - just because Hollywood is in America doesn't mean only Americans make Hollywood movies. Mexicans, Indians, the Brits and every country directors come to Hollywood to make movies.
The person who made Bob hearts abishola - Chuck Lorre is very white but he loved the Nigerian culture so much that he created a show about Nigerians in the diaspora - it'd be racist to deprive him the joy of creating a show because it's not his culture🤷🏽♂️.
People tend to forget Idris Elba is Ghanian not just British and John Boyega is both Yoruba and Igbo 👀 - if they'd read the source material and found it inspiring enough to pitch to A24, it's worth understanding
Which Nigerians are directing Hollywood movies? From Nollywood to Hollywood!! You got jokes bro!!
What is good for the goose is good for the gander. I dont expect a Nigerian director to direct WW2 movies about Jews as well. The Nigerian director can do it but he will be branded a racist in the likely event he mucks it up
Wow, you surely don't know a lot about the movie business, there're a lot of Nigerians directing, screenwriting and working on movies and shows in Hollywood - even any recent movie from the past ten years - there's likely going to be a Nigerian there. They don't need to have worked in Nollywood before working in Hollywood.
NaijaMemes: I dont expect a Nigerian director to direct WW2 movies about Jews as well.
That's pretty racist. But you're ok if a white person directs it even though he doesn't know shit about WW2🤮. What if the Nigerian director is a World War 2 historian and he would like to make a movie about his interest - he shouldn't because racists (esp on twitter) said he isn't qualified or he wants to adapt a World War 2 book because he finds it interesting - he shouldn't👀 because it's not his culture 🤮🤮 wtf!.In your own notion - the only people who can make a movie about something must be directly linked to the culture - if it's a film about Black people- it must be directed by a black man? 😂 Tarantino in your opinion should be cancelled for 'cultural appropriation' even when he writes his own movies😂
NaijaMemes: The Nigerian director can do it but he will be branded a racist in the likely event he mucks it up
Who the hell labels someone a racist because his movie isn't good? Except a Twitter rage baiter Abduleez come and see your people
NaijaMemes: The thing I agree with is that Nigerian movie makers are not doing well by refusing to do colonial stories. This why we have some simps here worshipping white women lol....
But I digress. Hollywood has never truly gotten Nigerian accents right. They usually have some propaganda. Just look at woman king- the Oyo empire were somehow the bigger slave trading villains than the Westerners. America will never put your country before theirs.
This is why we have to tell our stories. No one will do it well for you.
Why's it ok for Nigerian directors to direct Hollywood movies but wrong for Hollywood directors to direct a movie based on a fictional story from a Nigerian author
SOZINN: Does he actually become the prince of crime in this movie? Do we finally get the Joker we've been waiting for, the Joker that can give Batman a hard time. I enjoyed his orogin story in the first one but now I want him to become HIM.
The movie didn't even have a specific story, it was like he was dreaming and singing all throughout the film. Before you know it, the movie turned to a court room drama
Palehair: You watched "sing sing" right or you are just going via "the token movie with a black lead" narrative?
I've watched it and I gave my review here
Illusioneffect: Movies I watched last week (I watched a lot) 7. Sing Sing - 7/10
It's a good movie but not Oscar worthy imo. Just like they did for American Fiction last year and Rustin - they need black guys in the Oscar race or else they'll be called Racists
Wait and we didn’t add this to the Oscar race With this cast! and a director that the Oscars should be honoring before he dies? Why's no one talking about it? Or is this just because of Eastwood political beliefs?
OhBritannia: Deadpool and wolverine 2024 is a solid 1/10 for me.
Most cringest movie i have ever seen in my life. It's like these people don't even take us serious anymore, they just ride on the cult following of marvel and then keep giving us trash and junks. When i keep saying that i am not a fan of super hero, the reason is because of marvel.
Marvel don't even rate us anymore. Because how on earth does this Deadpool and wolverine makes sense? Plot 0/10 Storyline 0/10 Dialogues 0/10 Jokes 0/10 The only good thing is the action but they just have to spoil it with so many cringe moments, like what the Fvck!!!
Nah!!!! These people ain't serious at all.
When i keep saying that DC superheroes movies have more mature storylines and plots than marvel, people kept attacking me.
😭😭😂 you went into the movie expecting mature storyline - a fckin Deadpool movie I watched this movie three times in theatres and I laughed my ass off. Not all the jokes landed ofc but compared to other Hollywood comedies nowadays it was pretty brutal. A perfect 9/10 movie. If you go into the movie expecting great action sequences- amazing fourth wall breaks and a funny but stupid premise - you're in for a treat! People don't understand u have to think of Deadpool as a parody
I just watched Joker today by the way - a DC movie with 'more mature storylines' - the movie SUCKED balls and ass. 40% of the guys there left and some others were sleeping.
SOZINN: Bro, sometimes do you ever think to yourself that this site could have had a similar interface like Reddit? This guy seriously fumbled.
Exactly- every Nigerian could be using this site but Seun decided to gobble Twitter's balls and dump the site. And the thing is he could just do with some little tweaks to make it look modern enough to attract people. Some people don't use this site just because of how it looks? I can't believe this site still uses this fckin emojis to this day
abduleez1: Not talking about NOSFERATU. I'm more focused on
Babygirl Maria Conclave Dune 2 Emilia Perez The Brutalist Anora Sing Sing A Complete Unknown The Room Next Door
Amongst others to show up..... I just feel this year has or will have more overall general quality compared to last year.
Yeah, you're right. Movies I think will make the best picture cut are more excellent as last year's. 1. Conclave (one of the best cinematography of this year too) 2. Dune Part Two 3. Babygirl 4. Blitz 5. Sing Sing (in my opinion, it shouldn't be here at all but a black guy movie has to be because it's 'important' 6. Anora (my pick to win considering it's Neon and had been winning awards left right and centre) 7. A different Man 8. Queer 9. Emilia Perez 10. The Brutalist
I just installed Opera Mini (a browser I haven't used in almost a decade)
And for some reason it worked in uploading photos.
Opera Mini is a dead browswer that is out of touch, but somehow it's working on this site lmao
Meanwhile all the better browsers are not working at all. That's enough proof of the state of Nairaland
The truth is I’m actually using opera mini for Nairaland. This shows up whenever I try uploading photo but it verifies when I tap. I think Nairaland has an app, ba?
Movies I watched last week (I watched a lot) 1. Liar Liar (1997) - 9/10 Really fun but stupid movie, what you expect from a Jim Carrey movie 2. The Substance - 8/10 Demi Moore is my MILF🥵. Absolutely abhorrent movie- disgusting but a good movie 3. The Wild Robot- 12/10 Best animation and beautiful movie I've watched in years 4. The Iron Giant - 6/10 Interesting story but not my taste 5. Am I Racist - 7/10 You may not understand the premise but I laughed 6. Wolfs - 6/10 Spider-Man director didn't cook in this one. The rest 7. Sing Sing - 7/10 8. His three daughters -7/10 9. Uglies - 2/10 10. White Chicks - 9/10 (they'll never make this movie this days) 11. Snakes on a Plane - 6/10
You admitted yourself that the site works better on your older device which obviously makes no sense. Even before this recent encounter, only Google chrome could upload photos for me on this site.
Now I can't upload any photo no matter the browser I use. Even comments are 50:50.
Half the time when I try to comment, it just keeps sending me back to homepage no matter what browser I use till I give up.
I have updated all my browsers, nothing works.
It's clear that this site is now broken beyond repair or Seun doesn't care about fixing the issues.
If you have to keep toggling browsers in the hopes of a simple comment or upload, then it's obvious that the site is completely broken
Seun has not done any upgrade on this site since 2016 - don't bother disturbing him
Baddestguyp: Nawa oh... I can't post any review or upload any photo on this site. Half the time I can't even comment.
Seun what have you done to this site?
I logged out on chrome because I couldn't upload or comment there...now I can't even log back in on chrome.
I have tried 5 browsers and different image types for the past 2 days. I have updated everything
It's literally impossible to upload images on this site anymore
Update your browser and see if it works. By the way, Seun has abandoned this site- he's a Twitter man now, it's just a money making site - we're the ones still keeping this site alive. The creators just sit and watch
Kaycee7: He meant that, in the movies, Neville kills Nagini during a chase sequence while in the books, Neville kills Nagini right after pulling Gryffindor's sword from the Sorting Hat and nobody was being chased.
He's not wrong but it's a nitpick which isn't what I was expecting
Exactly😂😅 I wasn't expecting that - that's why I thought maybe he meant something else
abduleez1: Last Days At Forcados High is also a gem. Honestly, we have all the resources to produce top quality, our studios here are not just serious enough.
Forget the rest - TLDAFH would be a really popular movie not just in Nigeria but in the world because its themes resonate with everyone. I can't even believe no one in Nollywood has thought of that yet- it's cliche, simple, easy to understand. And it has a great theme? I'ld love to even get the rights to make a movie like that. Netflix would swallow it raw since it's already so popular. Even InDependence - that story would make for a good movie
Oga, I thought you were saying something else only because you as a hp stan should understand why it happened that way - it was more fun and action packed to film a scene like that than Neville just killing the snake in front of everyone
How will they give you their biggest anticipated show. Thinking a traditional studio wants to share money with an outsider, why do they have a streaming platform in the first place. It's because they don't like sharing money with Netflix and them likes so they distribute their content themselves.
TV show that David Zaslav has been shouting about since last year, you now expect him to give it to you when he's finally planning to go big on Europe. That show seems even way more important to WBD than even Game of Thrones/HOTD.
Even if the court forced WB to give them shows out of the deal. I'd pick low tier HBO/Max shows to give to them. It wasn't specified which title they get so it's a stupid loophole they forgot to think about.
I'd give them Suicide Squad Isekai and Velma and co series to co-produce since they want HBO content.
😭😭😆😅 a whole Harry Potter - Zaslav will share - even though the tv series is not good- people will watch. The Harry Potter franchise is too profitable to fail - that is WB's bread and butter. Imagine the toys and merchandise of the HP franchise. The show is like an ad compared to the money they'll make from merchandise and toys. It'll be as profitable as Marvel if they decided to squeeze the profitability out of it but they didn't, they instead waited for the franchise you turn to sweet wine
LifestyleTonite: Africa and beyond? Are you guessing or you have proof? Look, it wasn't even a hit in Nigeria, perhaps it was in Igbo land.
As for the book, it is popular abroad.
Just say your household or Igbo land was glued to their TV watching Things Fall Apart.
It wasn't a monster hit as you try to paint it. Wili Wili, Basi and Company, Village Headmaster, Tales By Moonlight, etc, were the monster hits.
I didn't know it even know it existed for a long time. Tales by Moonlight was more acclaimed and recognised than every show at that time and it wasn't even regarded as a monster hit😂
oyaskii: I think I understand Joseph1832's point on some level. Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets were easy to adapt because they were the shortest books in the series, allowing the filmmakers to go scene by scene and even page by page.
However, things started to go off track with Prisoner of Azkaban. They regained some balance with Goblet of Fire, but after that, the adaptations never quite hit the mark, in my opinion.
To put it in perspective, how can Order of the Phoenix, the longest book have one of the shortest runtimes in the entire film franchise, second only to the last part? They could have split it into two movies, but that would have likely required more money, effort, and especially time, since Warner Bros. was on a tight schedule to release a film each year.
J.K. Rowling had significant creative control over the first two movies, but as the films' popularity grew, it became overwhelming for her, and Warner Bros. began to make more of the decisions. She had been on the brink of financial ruin a decade earlier, and the Warner Bros. deal turned her into a billionaire and one of the most influential people in the world, so she couldn't really complain. She has since admitted that while the movies did some justice to the books, she is excited about the new series that has been greenlit, which she hopes will be more faithful to the source material.
Now, apart from the obvious cash grab, why would they feel the need to revisit the series if the original film adaptations were truly satisfying? I'm not saying they were bad, but they weren't entirely great either.
Personally, in hindsight, the only films that have 100% rewatch value for me are Chamber of Secrets, Goblet of Fire, and Philosopher's Stone, in that order. I could care less about the others, to be honest.
The books are my best books of all time but the movies are not- but it doesn't mean it was mutilated. Adaptations are not word-to-word or else it'd seen flat. Imagine making an 8-10 hour series of a book as short as the philosopher's Stone - that'll be way harder than making a movie out of it. In my opinion, they did a very good job adapting the last 5 books giving how detailed the books are. Not perfect but perfect enough
joseph1832: if you've read the books, you wouldn't have asked me this question. Lol
I’ve read the books a thousand times and I don’t understand how you believe it was mutilated. They adapted it as films the best way they can since they can’t put everything in the movies even though it wasn’t perfect. That’s why they are making a tv series. Things fall apart is not even as long as the 4th book and they’re making a tv series
