Christianity Etc › Re: Questioning The Implausibilities 3 (original Sin) by Image123(m): 11:22pm On Jan 01, 2016
johnydon22:
[b][i]Many here won't deny having grown up being taught that their very humanity itself is a sin.

That their nature as humans have been contaminated by the action of Adam and Eve in Eden and so their very nature as humans is a sin and broken, lost and weak and therefore needs to be saved..

This basic Christian doctrine has created an imaginary problem, have convinced them of bearing the guilt of an imaginary crime by two fictitious people they know nothing about and so must require an imaginary act of salvation in order to make it to an imaginary paradise..
What is imaginary here is your imaginations. The problem of sin is real. Our world obviously suffers from the consequences of sin. Every human being is naturally predisposed to evil, to cheating, lying, anger, selfishness and other such vices. Anyone who watches a baby grow up can easily observe all these, it's not something mysterious or enigmatic. This is reality and the Bible simply shows the root cause. Many millions in different generations past and present have attested to finding salvation, peace and forgiveness, it is not imaginary at all.

We have been taught that God is the father at the same time taught to fear, cower in awe in the face of this Father figure.

"Father, i am not worthy to be your son, i am broken and weak and is short of your glory but father forgive me and accept me because i have been a sinner since i was born. please father let your will be done in my life, take full possession of me and do with my life what ever you will even though am not worthy"

This is a prayer line used to address a father figure, to this i will call a pitiable show of self degrading other than humility..
God is not just the Father, He is the Creator and the Judge. The devil is the father of all liars and sinners, not God. If you do not receive Him, you are not a son or a child of God, don't get it twisted.
Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

And again am sure none of us here will ever have our children talk to us in that format, anyone who expects such mode of address from his Children has a chronic self righteousness, abject narcissism, huge egoism and outright disturbing figure..

People have been convinced that they are a sinner from birth and therefore are not worthy...?

To this i call a complete arrant nonsense...
Worthy of what if i may ask? What makes one worthy or unworthy?

It is amazing how people cannot find the disturbing idea of a God who bears a grudge for such a long time that it blames every generation for the actions of two people...

The alleged all powerful, all knowing and all present creator of the universe is showing a pitiable insecure childish show of bearing grudges with flimsy humans..

You do not need saving from imaginary angry Gods who is blaming you for the sin of some two naked couple who ate an apple..

You did nothing and you are not guilty of the crime of anybody not even the crimes of your immediate parents.
You are not been punished for any two people's sins, you will face judgement for your own sins. Also, the Bible says nothing about any two naked couple who ate an apple, don't get it twisted.

It is a common thing to have religious people accuse others of being sinners who deserves to be burnt in a fire for their sins.

It is ok to note that SIN in a religious sense has no weight on human morality..
What is sin?

Human morality as a construct of human society entails: An action that decreases individual and social human suffering and betters societal well-being, survival, justice, equality, freedom..

Going by this societal definition of human morality one cannot fail to notice that these actions are necessary for a human society to ensure continuation and a healthy social interactions because as social beings living together in a society we must indulge in mutual actions necessary for our own betterment and continuation.

An immoral act as the opposite of morality is An action that INCREASES individual and societal human suffering and is a detriment to societal well being, justice, equality, survival and freedom..

Going by this definition one cannot miss to discern that Armed Robbery is a societal vice because it increases the suffering of the victim.

Government officials looting a country is a societal vice because it increases the societal suffering of the community.

Boko haram or any group wreaking havoc on a community is a societal vice because it is a detriment to societal well being and increases individual and societal suffering..
Who gives these definitions, do you just pull them out of your nostrils or something? Who determines human morality, is it the courts or the house of assembly or the Constitutions or who? Can i determine morality, can you? Who made your definition more right than mine? Your school, your job, internet or facebook likes?

But the religious idea of sin are simply actions that goes against the stipulated ethics or doctrines of the said religion or the so called "will of God" that may or may not be in relation to a societal moral action.

E.g: In the catholic Church, Missing Mass on sunday is a sin against God..
In islam eating pork is a sin
And in a wide margin being Human itself is a sin in fundamental Christian doctrine of original sin.
Not believing in God is also a sin

I don't understand how muhammed having sex with a 9 year old Aisha is not a bad thing in Islam or beheading others in the name of God is not wrong but God frowns at what two grown adults decides to do with themselves or what i eat..

So you see, these ideas of sin has no weight on the moral tilt of an action, it doesn't matter if your actions are of a good tilt or not you are a sinner none- the less.
Again, don't get yourself in a fix/twist. Throwing together all the religioin and ideas that you manage to remember doesn't make them the same or make them disappear. It only makes you look like you don't know what you are saying.

So do not fret when accused of being a sinner as long as your actions are of no detrimental effect to others or the society...

This is the exact question i asked a preacher girl who accused me of being a sinner when she learnt i don't believe the God she believes..

"Am i a sinner because i don't live a moral and ethical life or because i don't believe the God you believe ?"

My actions are for humans not deity and so the effect of my actions on fellow humans and the society is all that matters to me not whether a deity likes it or not..

when we realize that an action is neither good or bad just because a religion says so either with the charge of "Thus says the lord" or not, we will learn to employ our reason and independent thinking in determining our actions towards each other..
Repeated reasoning. It's the same way Nnamdi Kanu deluded himself that nothing would happen to him if he came to Nigeria. Fear God and repent. When you die, there is judgement.

-We are neither fallen or weak
We are. Only a person without a sense of morality or conscience would agree otherwise. Can you see the human race? You do not see any faults or problems?

-Our humanity is not a crime or sin
Depends on your definition of humanity. Being human is not a crime or a sin though.

-we are not to be blamed for the actions of some fictitious couple who ate an apple.
Of course. i wonder where you get such a ridiculous idea in the first instance.

-We have no need to be saved from angry deities who won't mind their business, we are the only ones who can offer ourselves and our children salvation by choosing to better the planet we live in.
Of course. Who cares about angry deities who won't mind their business?

-And most importantly we do not need forgiveness from angry Gods, we only need forgiveness from each other..
That's what a few percentage of deluded humans think. Their opinion is largely irrelevant in the big picture.

Live your life for you and your actions in respect to others around you and the society that binds us all and not an obligation to a God or religion or a means to an end to bypass punishment or get a reward..
Who justifies this idea? What society binds you? What makes your right to be bound to some society greater than the other man's right to be bound to his God?

Nobody is born a sinner or inherited the sin of Adam and eve and it's time people realized that..
Really? What are the advantages of this realization again? What are the disadvantages of failing to realize?

Politics › Re: 2016 Budget: A Budget Of Change Or A Budget Of Burden? by Image123(m): 3:05pm On Dec 31, 2015
TonyeBarcanista:
What Is The Rationale Behind $38 Oil Benchmark?
In the budget, the government pegged oil benchmark at $38 per barrel. The problem here is that since the beginning of the second half of 2014, crude oil price has been on a free fall. In December 2014, it stood at $61 per barrel. As at today, the price of crude oil has dropped to $36 per barrel. Note that the price of crude as at june 2014 was $117 per barrel. With Iran poised to resume supply in 2016, Russia and USA entering the market, it means that the price of the product may go lower in 2016. What then is the rationale behind pegging the price of crude at $38 per barrel for 2016 budget? How will Nigeria meet up with its attendant deficit in revenue?
The President touched on this in his address to the Senate. He said "After reviewing the trends in the global oil industry, we have set a benchmark price of $38 per barrel and a production estimate of 2.2 million barrels per day for 2016. We have focused on non-oil revenues by broadening our tax base and improving the effectiveness of our revenue collecting agencies." They reviewed the trends, they are also privy to information from OPEC, Nigeria presiding over OPEC for a part of the year and having meetings and summits with Oil Producing countries. Also 2.2mbpd is a fair estimate given the fact that it used to be projected higher despite the leakages that are now been blocked and much of the stolen crude, fund diversion etc. All these will balance up for the benchmark price, and things may just not fall too low. Also, In 2016, oil related revenues are expected to contribute N820 billion. Out of the total budget, the FG is expecting less than 15% of funds from oil. That's a pretty safe price IMHO.

2. According to the 2016 Budget, Nigeria's projected revenue for 2016 is N3.86 trillion and deficit of N2.22 trillion with oil benchmark at $38 dollar per barrel. The government dedicated N1.8 trillion ie 30% set aside for capital expenditure, and projected to incur loan of N1.84 trillion.

The above means that the government plan to incur loan to finance capital project and use the leftover for recurrent expenditure. Which country in the world can survive on such arrangement? Considering that oil price is sinking deeper, it means even the projected revenue may not be met and government could be forced to take more loans to meet up the deficit. Where is the wisdom here?
The President already answered this in that same speech. He said "The deficit, which is equivalent to 2.16% of Nigeria’s GDP, will take our overall debt profile to 14% of our GDP. This remains well within acceptable fiscal limits. Our deficit will be financed by a combination of domestic borrowing of N984 billion, and foreign borrowing of N900 billion totaling N1.84 trillion. Over the medium term, we expect to increase revenues and reduce overheads, to bring the fiscal deficit down to 1.3% of GDP by 2018."

More Debt?
As at June 30, 2015 the former permanent secretary of the finance ministry put the debt owed by the FG alone at N8.396 trillion and $7.74 (N1.4trillion) for local and external debt respectively. With the government proposing to borrow another N1.84trillion to finance 2016 budget, this will mean more money to finance these huge debts. Considering that we will likely borrow more due to oil decline, I don't think there is any wisdom in this. Are we going back to pre-1999?
This is already answered in the last quote i gave. However, it is expedient for the country to borrow to do anything meaningful. The money is simply not there. It is the same you that will be the first to criticize if the government does nothing meaningful next year. Money is needed for capital and massive projects. We want salaries paid on time, we want government not to reduce salary and minimum wage, we want government to employ graduates massively and pay them well, we don't want to hear news of sack or retrenchment, we want 10,000MW of power, good roads, hospitals, etc but the government should not borrow. Are you dreaming? Buhari is not Jesus Christ the Messiah, wake up from your stupor please.

Will Government Ever Learn?
When the last administration presented the 2015 budget, they pegged crude oil price at $65 per barrel. As at time of presenting the budget, the crude oil price stood at $61 per barrel. The effect was what we witnessed in 2015 where the government had to resort to borrowing because they couldn't meet revenue expectation. President Buhari is now following the same route. Pegging crude oil price at $38 per barrel when the price at present is lower. That means there will be increased borrowing should the crude oil price fail to rise at the benchmark.

I believe Nigeria should learn from Greece and not go down same lane. Already, we have serious problem of depleting customers for our major export(oil) and also we face challenge of competing with more entrants(USA, Russia and Iran) in the market. Government budget should reflect on the reality and not hinged on political correctness. Honestly, I see no positive change in this budget, all I see is burden on Nigerians.

May God Bless Nigeria
Have some faith and hope for a CHANGE.

Thank God for Lagos that still covers their shame small and the free education scheme that their leaders helped with. The igbos have real soul searching to do. Onitsha and Owerri had highest population in the South though no TOWNS sha. South Africa is very tolerant when it comes to foreign investment. When any foreign company which is of a value to its market flount its regulations it won't rush to impose a hefty fine. It will afford the other party to present its case and listen whether it was deliberate or unintentional. It will only be after everything else has been exhausted that they will consider applying some little lashes but not to kill the company.

It should be borne in mind that foreign investment is important to our developments. They create jobs; sponsor major events and sports; sponsor education and offer scholarships to our students to study in local and overseas universities; they are major contributors of revenues through tax and also they help develop infrastructure through investment.

Why do we have to go to foreign countries to ask for investment? We invite them to our countries and when they do wrong we want to kill them without looking into facts. Investors are also not in our mercy, they can as well drop us like a hot potato and leave us with a dwindling economy.
You're talking rubbish, i'm sure you are aware. MTN flouted laws and showed no remorse despite several warnings. All the other GSM companies complied despite previously flouting them. No company is bigger than thje country, Nigeria is where they made their name and their money. If they are tired, they should go. How and why should SIMs not have subscriber IDENTIFICATION? Why do we call them SIM cards? NCC was lenient enough to even reduce the fine after, but MTN wants to stall things by going to court and hoping they can bribe their way and outmuscle the FG with grammar and court theartrics. It's very unfortunate.

Good to know that receiving jesus as king is done once every year by some people.
The celebration done on Dec 25th is not the lords doing, its man made.
The pagans did not make a day, they choosed a day to celebrate their Gods, some now choosed that same day, using mostly the same methods and practices as used by the pagans to celebrate Christmas.
All these had no precedence in our worship to jehovah, jesus , his disciples, the apostles, early christians never formulated, observe or practise such religious celebration.

As to ur question , I dnt know when incantation started but since its related to magic I think it started ealier(I might be wrong).
But what I know is that incantation and speaking in tongue are not related, unlike the relation between pagan celebrations and Christmas celebrations.
The point where i leave you to beat yourself all through tomorrow. Season's greetings, thank God you are not God and Jesus.

Thank you for the correction.
Have you ever thought about real as opposed to imagined pagan practice of offering food to idols and then eating it in 1 Cor 8?

While it is debatable exactly how 'pagan' Christmas is, this was a clearly pagan practice yet Paul appeals to conscience. This tells me thAt Christmas even if it were to be proved 'pagan' is a far less offensive activity.

So I have always tried to get to the hearts of anti-Christmas brigade....what really motivates them in opposing it?

Probable reasons
1. They are raised in sects that oppose it and for conformity purposes, they oppose it as well regardless of how (un)founded the opposition is
2. They misunderstand the purpose of Christmas, and thus manifest a zeal but not according to knowledge
3. They are proud, self righteous bunch simply out to prove themselves better than the next guy
4. They are rebels without cause. Some will just oppose norm for the heck of it, they will sleep during the day and stay up at night just to be different

While I can't discern the motive for each opponent, I can easily pick sectarian opponents like dolphinheart because for the past 15 years, I have heard Jehovah's Witnesses regurgitating the arguments he is advancing here VERBATIM
That number 1 captures it.
