What is the use of a Benzema, if we can get to win stuff with out these so called big players huh Or do we just go the route of your silly team, and get players because the Owner's kiddies love the player (A 'la the reported interest in Roberto Carlos) or the owner's former wife is best friends with the player's wife (Your purchase of Sheva). and stuff like that.
If we can get to win stuff? huh Like the Amsterdam Cup,the topping the League midway Cup? You haven't won anything since Wenger started relying on these bargain purchases.

The times Wenger won the League-98(he had an aging 1st 11),02(he spent his most on transfer fees) and 04(largely same squad from 02 with a lot of aging players)

He hasn't won anything with this new policy so until then,he stands accused of being a failure with his cowardly frugality.

@doyin13.The concept of a conviction politician is an oxymoron. However,if someone is promising "heaven and earth"(finish off al-Qaeda,end the war in Iraq, end income inequality, revive US manufacturing industry,et.c)its reasonable to ask how he intends to achieve all these lofty goals.

What distinguishes Obama from most other candidates is the level of expectations he has created in his supporters.Nobody supporting Clinton or Giuliani shares this same rose-tinted view of what their candidate can actually do.There is a huge chasm,in Obama's case more than most, between the expectations he creates and the means by which he intends to realise those expectations.

Obama was not speaking from the heart in Iowa; he was speaking off a teleprompter.

Now, second, to Martin Luther King. King did write his own material. There is no evidence that King had a teleprompter, or that he had a flock of hidden speechwriters composing his speeches for him. King was the real thing. King's words have endured because they were so powerful; they were so powerful because he wrote them and because he delivered them spontaneously.
Someone observed that Obama sounds more sincere than Clinton.Of course he will, when Clinton is clearly reading from notes while he seems to be speaking from the heart. This gives an erroneous impression.

The reality is that both have armies of speechwriters but Obama goes the extra-length- unlike anybody else in the entire race-to give the impression that his carefully crafted speeches are spontaneous.

Nothing wrong with what he is doing but it highlights the need to be more circumspect towards politicians.

McKren:
Sorry how does the telepromter workhuh??
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teleprompter

A teleprompter (also known as an autocue) is a display device that prompts the person speaking with an electronic visual text of a speech or script. Using a teleprompter is similar to the practice of using cue cards. The screen is in front of the lens of the camera, and the words on the screen are reflected to the eyes of the speaker using a one-way mirror

(Note that this is only true in principle — when the space between the lens and the mirror is covered in a shroud, an ordinary glass pane will work as a one way mirror).

As the speaker does not need to look down to consult written notes, he or she appears to have memorized the speech or be speaking spontaneously, and will look directly into the camera lens. Cue cards, on the other hand, will always be placed away from the lens axis, making the speaker look at a point beside the camera, which leaves a "distracted" impression.

http://www.pr-inside.com/andy-martin-says-barack-obama-is-r372467.htm

Let me start by stating the obvious: Obama gives a good speech. On Iowa caucus night, however, I gave my vote for "most effective speech" to Senator John Edwards, not Obama and certainly not Senator Hillary Clinton. I usually refer to Clinton as "wooden." I'm being nice.

Why do I disagree with the herd about Obama? First, they are listening, but not seeing, what is happening. Second, Obama has yet to demonstrate the greatness of a truly powerful speaker. Finally, his "speech" is getting stale.

First, I am not a big television watcher. But on election nights I have to watch, to write, and so I watched. When Obama went on the stage to speak I was looking for something, but couldn't see it: a teleprompter. It wasn't clear whether there was prompter there. Only in watching reruns the next day was the presence of the prompter clear.

The teleprompter was an Andy Martin "gotcha" item. Whether I am on the battlefield or sitting on a couch, or even a bar, I look for the "gotcha" indication that betrays the true state of mind of the moment.

The prompter tells me a lot about Obama (sort of like a doctor diagnosing the patient, long-distance in this case). First, Obama was probably the last to speak Thursday night because he had people writing his speech. Second, and more importantly, he did not write his speech. Finally, someone wrote his words for him.

The teleprompter incident also explains for me a disconnect that some in the media have legitimately observed: that Obama delivers "great" speeches but does poorly in debates. Why? Because when he doesn't have people to write for him in a debate, his own words end up faltering. And so, Obama can deliver a speech, but he can't compose one on the fly. His words are someone else's.
The man is pulling a wool over a lot of people's eyes.Always try and observe how he performs at debates. No wonder he rarely does Q & A sessions
Foreign AffairsRe: Obama For President? by Iman3(m): 1:41am On Jan 11, 2008
@JeSoul

And Mr. Obama, in his own way, is often as calculating as Mrs. Clinton. For example, he was the only candidate, Democratic or Republican, to use a teleprompter to deliver his Iowa and New Hampshire election-night speeches. It gave his speeches a quality and clarity that other candidates, speaking from notes or the heart, failed to achieve. But what he gained in polish, he lost in connection.
16th paragraph in this linkhttp://online.wsj.com/article/SB119992615845679531.html?mod=opinion_main_commentaries

I wondered about this while I was watching it.I thought Obama must be an improvisational genius,if he was actually speaking from the heart on such an emotionally turbulent night, seemed a stark contrast from Hillary's speech but now I know the answer.

You said after the N.Hampshire primaries that,in the post-primaries speeches, while Clinton read from notes,Obama spoke without such aid.Well, that was actually a well calculated deceptive ploy.

Obama was the only candidate-GOP and Democrat-in both Iowa and N.Hampshire to use a teleprompter. It gives TV viewers the illusion that he is speaking from the heart and helps to solidify his image. grin

Here is a look at the Iowa polls prior to the actual voting:http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/ia/iowa_democratic_caucus-208.html

The N.Hampshire pre-voting polls
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/nh/new_hampshire_democratic_primary-194.html

Even the N.Hampshire polling that turned out wrong was relatively narrow. All the polling data suggests Clinton has a lead of about 20 percentage points over Obama. Are you guys saying the pollsters are off the mark by 20 points?

PS:Clinton also leads by a wide margin in California,New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Obama is trailing by 20 points in Nevada,Florida and Michigan,it will amount to a monumental cockup if the pollsters have overestimated Hillary's lead by a whopping 20 points.I have never seen such before.

The equivalent in Naira will be about 300,000.You have to ask the kind of second hand car you can get in Nigeria for that price and compare that to this.

India is somewhat like Nigeria in the sense that this offers value for money compared to 2nd hand cars you can get for a similar price.

2nd hand cars are cheaper in the West,so I guess the attractiveness of this car is lessened there.

Pretty much what many have been saying on this thread:

Where's the Beef? [Andrew Cline]

Here's my insta-theory on Clinton's victory. New Hampshire voters were supposed to reject her because they can see through a phony and she's a phony. But New Hampshire voters are also very well informed on policy.
(Sorry, Michigan, it's true.) There is no question they gave Obama a serious listen. And compared to Clinton, they found him lacking substance. (I heard exactly this on Monday night from voter after voter leaving Clinton's Manchester rally — all of them saying she'd won them over that night.) Clinton ran on policy proposals — not always super-specific — but her stump speeches were more detailed than those of Obama, who offered inspiration but little else. Democrats heard Obama and said, "Where's the beef?" And Clinton was standing there with a big ole rump steak tied around her neck.

Actually, that's a significant part of the Huckabee resurgence that people are overlooking. His economic populism resonates at a time of economic uncertainty.I thought the best line Huckabee gave was when he said that the difference between him and Romney was that while he reminds people of their co-worker,Romney reminds people of the boss who fired them.

That being said,I think many fiscal conservatives would prefer a Rudy who sounds more knowledgeable about the economy.Rudy simply needs to fine tune his message to include some of the populist rhetoric that will come in handy if the US slips into a recession.

He doesn't need to get Evangelicals on side. There are enough Evangelicals, like Pat Robertson demonstrated, who think that the most important issues for America are not "moral values" issues like abortion and gay marriage but national security-defeating "Islamo-fascism".

That is what Rudy brings to the table. If he gets enough of the independents votes, together with fiscal conservatives,he can win easily. The reality is that its McCain who poses the greatest threat to Guliani, not Huckabee. They are effectively fighting for the same demographics.

In a 2 horse race between Rudy and Huckabee,I'm confident Guliani will win handsomely.

Huckabee benefits from being the only major evangelical in the race.He has nobody to split the evangelical votes with, unlike McCain,Rudy and Romney who are often fighting over the same demographics.I'm sure the Republican establishment will find a way of stopping of McCain and Huckabee

The GOP has 2 major camps-fiscal conservatives and social conservatives.Rudy has better chances of winning with the former,Huckabee is strong with the latter.

Huckabee's greatest strenght is with social conservatives who ascribe to his Christianity-themed messages and his populist economic views.

However, even social conservatives are pragmatists. They recognise that the GOP is less popular now than in a long time and that a Huckabee has little chance  of beating either Obama or Clinton. Both McCain and Guliani are stronger candidates. What is the point of electing Huckabee to "overturn" Roe v Wade when is going to be slaughtered in the national polls?

For reasons of sheer pragmatism, many social conservatives would rather go for Guliani or McCain than Huckabee.Even Pat Robertson endorsed Guliani!

There are 47 states to go and Guliani leads in many of the big states like NY,California and Florida in the polls I have seen. For now,I still think its between McCain and Guliani, with Huckabee potentially the "surprise" nominee.

As for Romney,he may be the brightest of the whole lot but as ex-Bishop of the Church of Latter Day Saints. . . . . . .how come nobody gives Obama grief for his church? It has some fairly "unconventional" views

First i correct your short sighted approach that even a fool has a website and can put things together, thats so vain we are talking about issues and i showed that to prove that he has put policies together which are coherent, if you can't be bothered to read it then don't say he doesnt have policies.
Thanks for the straw man argument-nobody says he doesn't have any policies.Supposing one accuses, say Blair,of being dishonest,it wouldn't do to point out specific instances of honesty. No candidate is literally devoid of policies, just as nobody is literally devoid of instances of honesty.

The key thing is,Obama is selling a message of "hope" and "change" that is superficial and patently meaningless. What hope, what change? I have looked at his website, his entire economic policy proposals can be found on 7 pages of PDF Files! grin

I have asked a simple question before-what is it that Obama is going to do differently, justifying the messages of "hope" and "change", that other candidates won't?Beyond skin color, how is Obama different from other? huh Let me take some of your responses one by one.

On Iraq Obama proposes a phased withdrawal with commitments to the number of troops that should be withdrawn periodically, the idea is to ensure Iraqi's take responsibility of their destiny and open other avenues to engage the iraqi's, because they don't want US troops on the ground why keep forcing yourself there, the hearts and minds can't be won.
I suppose this is your answer to my question-how is Obama going to end the war in Iraq? Firstly, let me point out that the promise of withdrawing US troops has been made by several other candidates.Once again,Obama is no different.

Beyond that,it verges on the sophomoric to claim that a phased US troop withdrawal will fulfill Obama's claims of "ending the war in Iraq".Will Sunnis stop killing Shias and vice versa if US troops withdraw? Will the battles between the Badr Brigades and the Mahdi Army end? Will al-Qaeda stop attacking Shias, moderate Sunnis and non-Muslims?

How does he plan to end the various multi-layered internecine conflicts going on within Iraq, which all constitute "the war in Iraq"?

It may be that what he means by "ending the war in Iraq" is simply ending US involvement in that war.Of course, withdrawing US troops will achieve the above anyway in which case people who want simply the above should vote for other candidates who promise even more rapid withdrawal leaving no single US troops in Iraq ,unlike Obama who promises to keep some US troops even after the withdrawal.

Secondly on securing nuclear materials, again you are not listening because this area is one of the core changes he is talking about. Direct dialogue with supposed rogue states/axis of evil. He proposes to speak to them directly. You claim you are not a Clinton supporter and from your comments i guess you are republican the so called experience so far has led the world to be a more hostile place.
Are you suggesting that simply directly talking to certain states will secure all loose nuclear materials within 4 years? huh This is not even worthy of a response.

Finally on al-queda i wont answer that because you have listened to Bush too much. If there are no safe heavens i wonder where Al-queda would operate from. The theory of exclusion is what is feeding the extremist ideology, agreed that theres a foundation of hate in Islam but the moment Iran, Syria becomes an ally where would the breeding ground be. Look what Obama proposes is different and scares the establishment the idea of being friends with Iran and Syria is currently unthinkable and scares the establishment because the war lords would have nothing to sell.
Now this is presumably your answer to how Obama will end the fight with al-Qaeda. Iran,a Shia nation that has been the victim of al-Qaeda,is your hope of corralling a Sunni organisation? How does friendship with Syria stop al-Qaeda?The Syrian Govt and al-Qaeda are sworn enemies.

So,Obama will end the fight with al-Qaeda by being friends with Iran and Syria!I see, enough said
