jagunlabi:Well, this tells us more about your level of comprehension than about the Catholic Church. The Church told you to "send people to hell with your mind"? This kind of piffle is best peddled to your fellow loonies. |
Those who are attacking the Sun for merely reporting the content of claims filed in court are being myopic. The Sun is not saying OBJ slept his daughter-in-law but that OBJ's son claims he did so.Are they supposed to ignore such claims? |
debosky:There was an interesting article in the Economist noting that previous studies have underestimated the scale at which domestic demand has been driving economic growth in China.China can still probably 8% annual GDP growth even if the US falls into a recession. So far the UK has been more jittery over the US problems because of the similar weakness/overinflated state of the housing market than say France or Germany, showing that this weakening in the US may not be broad based, but more focused on a particular sector driving growth leading to the cloaking of underlying unsustainable consumption patterns.I saw this funny comment by a Nigerian in the Telegraph: One good point to the coming downturn it will promote some reverse migration. It's already happened to me I sold up and have moved back to Africa. No sub prime here just good weatehr and fresh food. Enjoy the downturn UK see you in a couple of years time! @Debo Wey your comments for the Gooners thread? ![]() What happened? You normally provide post-match commentary ![]() debosky:I heard that housing futures show a 20% drop in prices next year. Hope we see a similar price drop in the UK.There were estimates by,I believe the OECD, that house prices are overinflated by 40% in the UK. Not sure about the vulnerability of China.Even if only 20% of China's exports are to the US,the rest of its export markets are countries who often are heavily dependent on the US for exports. So,even if China isn't directly affected,it would be indirectly. |
Kobojunkie:The reason why a lot of people in America don't "appreciate" their relatively rapid GDP growth is that wages growth has been largely static over the past few years. However, the US economy has been very strong for quite a while compared to other industrialised nations. There is a clear Post hoc ergo propter hoc("Since that event followed this one, that event must have been caused by this one." quality to a lot of people's analysis of Bush's economic record. |
faketan:We have a scammocracy already in Nigeria. A government of scammers with only their self-interest as their overriding reason for being in Govt. |
Ndipe:This reminds me of the cliche-correlation is not the same thing as causation. That Bush was President at the time of an ailing economy doesn't mean he "destroyed" the economy. People don't actually remember that the last 2 quarters of 2000 saw sluggish economic growth. The economy started ailing before Bush came into office and was already in a mild recession when he assumed office. That being said,US GDP growth has outstripped that of the OECD average. 2007 was the first time since 2001 that growth rate stalled |
Una don see my detailed plan of action? What are you guys waiting for? I am clearly the man to lead Nigeria to the promise land(Pluto). My rival keeps talking about experience but I have no idea what experience he is talking about. Is it experience in shedding crocodile tears? Sure, his ability to replicate the Victoria falls with his constant crying might help combat desertification in the North or the drying of Lake Chad but what else. His lachrymose tactic is for the faint hearted. My people, never underestimate the power of hope.My infusion of hope and optimism amongst the populace will solve all our problems and lead this country to paradise, with a brief detour along the way to pluto |
uspry1:With regards to our telecoms infrastructure generally,I think the Govt should re-invest proceeds from the sale of licenses into the sector. You need a reliable and efficient telecoms sector to facilitate economic growth. Further deregulation is important to push communication costs down.I would actually prefer it if we granted tax-exempt status to ISPs and allow tariff free importation of telecoms equipment. The current level of internet usage in Nigeria is deplorable. I wouldn't necessarily recommend Govt investment in such relay services but if there is low private-sector interest, perhaps that would be worth looking into. However,if there is market for it,my recommended incentives for the telecoms sector would encourage private-sector investment in that regard. (4) How can you improve Economic here?Slash the corporate tax rate to 10%. Privatise all the remaining Govt enterprises and deregulate the downstream petroleum sector-allow the price of fuel to be market driven.Fight corruption and slash the size of the public sector. Reduce red tape as well.Invest heavily in infrastructure and education What about Energy Policy with the emphasis of renewable energy solution?Deregulation is important. Also, the Govt should partner with the private sector to invest in power generation, transmission and distribution. I don't have much time for renewable energy. If the market is there, the Govt doesn't really have to do anything. |
davidylan:That is what they said when Balewa first announced his plan to land a man on Mount Cameroon.Go ask Neil Dogonyaro and Buzz Effiong how they raised our Green-White-Green on the above mountain. What started as a mere dream became reality. You have to have a vision for the future in order to create a better society. That is why my constant dreams mark me out as one who offers the best for the future of our great nation. |
uspry1:Create and expand free trade zones throughout the African region. I don't know whether ECOWAS is a free trade region but it certainly should be,we should join with COMESA and the other regional bodies to create a continent-wide free trade zone. Continue to lower trade tarrifs. There is a misconception that lower tarriffs undermine the economy by crushing local manufacturing but lower tarrifs also lower inflation and encourage emphasis on areas where we have competitive advantage. We could have exceptions for a sector like textile but broadly speaking,we should lower our tarriffs. (2) What about Human Rights? Disability Laws?We already have a comprehensive human rights legal regime. We simply need to implement them. That takes years of effecting a sea change in attitude across board. If our President lays emphasis on it,he could set the ball rolling. We actually need to enact more disability laws. Here,we have very little on our statute books in that regard,it does reflect a cultural insensitivity.Like the above, implementation will be a problem but with a determination at the highest level to effect change, there will be a gradual shift in cultural attitudes towards a more disability-friendly environment. |
vigasimple:The shaded parts of your post are just risible. The US uses other people's money to grow her economy? Where did these people get their money from? Reading your post, one would never realise that there is symbiotic relationship between the US economy and these other economies. No one is buying dollar anymore? Hundreds of billions of dollars are still being added to reserves in many countries including our country Nigeria. @ocho cinco Its not just the credit crunch that is undermining the economy.2/3rds of the US economy is accounted for by consunmer expenditure.Obviously, falling house prices erode the consumer's buying power.I don't think the sub-prime debacle is necessarily related to the current housing price deflation. I don't think Bush should do anything about the subprime mess. The market should learn how to assess and price risk,Govt intervention only leads to moral hazard and ensures that this is more likely to occur again. Years of cheap credit encouraged an asset bubble that needs to be flushed out of the system. If Bush should do anything,he should take this opportunity to look at Giuliani's proposals for a cut in the corporate tax and capital gains tax. Maybe an income tax cut to make his proposals politically viable ocho cinco:What's up with the different noms de guerre? |
@usupry1 You want a serious answer or an Obamesque answer ? ![]() |
I actually spoke too soon!Alas, there is the inevitable explanans I was waiting for: vigasimple: Bush brought about the threat of recession in 2008 by purportedly saying that "the rest of world can go to hell."If Iraq was the prime example, one would have thought the US should have gone into a recession earlier, say 2003/2004 |
noetic:Pluto dey better. Its the next real estate heaven. Infact,Zenith Bank has already started offering sub-prime mortgages for houses on Pluto. |
noetic:Minister of the Federal Capital Territory of Pluto. ![]() |
davidylan:You don't even know what the people want.Years spent on the corridors of power has alienated you from the people. Our great country yearns for technological triumphs-your only technological achievement is installing waterworks in your eyes for use every time you are trailing in the polls! All that crying won't fool our wise people again. As the eloquent G.W put it,"fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again." |
davidylan:Do you have godzillafire4fireforce? How can you lead this great nation when you can't even download the latest web browser ? That is why my message of technological daring, landing a man on Pluto by the end of the month, grates you, because you are a technophobe. How can we land on Pluto when our leader doesn't know how to download? That is why we need change. I have a dream!I have a dream that one day my people will climb up and down mountains and those mountains shall be exalted. I have a dream that one day this nascent democracy of ours will rise up and reclaim our rightful place at the top of Tranparency International's table. I have a dream today. This nation can be great again if only we can have hope and trust in my dreams and nightmares www.iman2008.com |
faketan:I did not inhale. . . .that is the most important thing! |
Complete non sequitur. How does my use of multiple IDs show I am corrupt? If so,the use of names like PTF to mislead gullible Nigerians into thinking you are associated with the Petroleum Trust Fund is certainly outrageous. Besides,my name change was due to my human rights activism against the great dictator-Field Marshall Seun. After my incarceration at Arjen Robben Island,I followed the path of Cassius Clay and came out with a new name. A fresh face is what the people need, indeed, that is all they need. You can access my website to see how I intend to achieve my goals- www.iman2008.com |
jagunlabi:Spare us such guff. Not only was your supposed Christian obligations-send fellow human beings to hell with your mouth and mind-complete baloney, even if you happened to belong to some mickey mouse denomination that ascribed to this mysterious theology, saying that murder is worse than "sending people to hell with. . . ." is utter nonsense. An atheist doesn't give a damn what an Evangelical thinks of him. . . . . he would however be bothered by "physical killing"(your grammar is revolutionary) Drawing moral equivalence where there is none is ridiculous. If you claim to fear "damnation by word of mouth" more than murder, you probably need to see a shrink. |
She raised eyebrows in New Hampshire when she credited President Lyndon Baines Johnson, not the assassinated John F. Kennedy or King, for passing civil rights legislation.http://www.thestate.com/presidential-politics/story/282561.html What Hillary said was technically true but politically damaging |
davidylan:Na you buy the teleprompter for me? This message of hope is straight from the conus arteriosus. Corridors of power indeed! You think sharing the same surname as the Chairman of Globacom will fool anybody?Besides,we need change from that.We need a fresh face-I am darker skinned compared to all the former Presidents of Nigeria. No ex-President looks like me. |
faketan:I tell you say I go bring hope and change to Naija, wetin be your problem? That is all you need to know.If you want detail,go to my website-www.iman2008.com.(works best with godzillafire4firefox) |
davidylan:Na end times o.They say strange things will be happening when the end of time nears!Nothing can be stranger than what I am seeing on this thread ![]() |
doyin13:Are you suggesting my message is not coming straight from the heart? That I have some kind of army of speech writers,or I am modeling myself against some past great leaders? My message is straight from the heart; from the inner depths of my aorta, just above the pulmonary artery I can't believe people are doubting my authenticity. Are you being racist towards me?Is your Caucasian background making it hard for you to believe my authenticity? |
faketan:I am Nigeria's version of JFK/Obama/Idi Amin/Bush/Hoja combined. |
princekay1:I no know o,besides,as President,I no need to explain my self.I think our great nation can't move forward unless people like Jim Iyke, that litter our TV screens, are put to death or otherwise exiled to Guantanamo Bay |
faketan:Don't mind him.No amount of tears can wash away the incredible message of hope that I have brought to the nation. This message of hope can move mountains. With hope, anything is possible,G.Bissau can win the ACN if only they hope. doyin13:I have one word for you-yes we can!If only we can have hope,no matter how "audacious",yes we can put a man on Pluto by the end of this month |
If I were President of Nigeria: I would declare;Cameroun,Niger and Benin as part of the axis of Arewa and invade all three! I would use Nigeria's money to pay off Man Utd's debt Execute Jim Iyke Free silicone breast implants for every woman. Print new currency notes with my names on it-we will have 1005,175,165 and 185Naira notes The above are my top priorities I have a message of change for my fellow Nigerians!I will bring hope where there is no hope, more hope where there is little hope and if anybody has a lot of hope but needs more hope, you can count on me to provide incredible amounts of hope . ![]() |
What do you guys make of this story?Hillary Clinton gaffe over Martin Luther Not good PR from Hillary but its a fuss over nothing. It seems some people in favor of Obama are trying to play the racial card to undermine Clinton. It will actually backfire against Obama. |
hmmm. . . . .3 posts and nobody has blamed Him yet ![]() |

quality to a lot of people's analysis of Bush's economic record.
