RomanceSome Reasons Nigerian Ladies Turn Down Marriage Proposal From Guys. by Imoobot(op): 10:48am On May 20, 2015
Even though there seems to be much noise about scarcity of husband in the country, many single ladies are still turning potential suitors down for some reasons I think are funny and trivial.

In this short article, I want to hear peoples’ varied view on these reasons; please feel free to add to the list because I am only listing out the ones I have heard or read about.

Below are the reasons:

1. Religion: in as much as I believe in partners sharing same religious belief, it becomes worrisome for a girl to reject a marriage proposal from her boyfriend or new man simply because he is not of the same religious denomination with her.

E.g. A girl who attends Winners Chapel turning down a guy because he attends Redeem, Assemblies of God, Jehovah’s witness, etc.

I can understand Aisha, a Muslim girl turning down Tunde or Emeka a Christian, but Tina turning down James or Peter who share same Christian religious faith with her but different denomination sounds funny to me.

2. Community or State of origin:
As funny as it may sound, many won’t believe that so many single ladies are still single today not entirely because quality single men aren’t coming to ask their hands in marriage, but because they keep turning guys from other communities and States down while waiting for a Prince Charming from their hometown or state of origin.

I have noticed that this is more common amongst Anambra ladies, and whenever I hear such, I just shake my head because while these single ladies are busy waiting for Nnamdi, Emeka, Uche from their community or State, Emeka, Nnamdi and Uche are getting married to girls from far states like- Osun, Oyo, Benue, Kogi…and the ladies keep waiting for them, it sounds funny to me.

Ladies, why limit your chances by striking off guys from some communities and states? No one community or state have same character and trait.

Because Julius from Ondo divorced his wife after two months of marriage doesn’t mean that Ayo from Ondo will do the same…so ladies please wise up and stop stereotyping for your own good.

3. Height: in as much as height matters in selecting a partner, some ladies seem to be so carried away by this height of a thing.

If you are up to 5ft7, marrying a man of 5ft7 or 5ft8 isn’t bad at all…in fact marrying a man of 5ft6 isn’t bad if he has some other great qualities….remember, height won’t guarantee your happiness in marriage.

In fact, after spending some time (say 2years), the physical look of your partner may become inconsequential to you because plenty other factors will set in.

And short men don’t always give birth to short offspring…if his family have a trait of tallness (if at all such word exist in English dictionary, lol), he will most likely give birth to tall children.

4. His manhood size:
As funny and unbelievable as it may sound, so many single ladies of today have rejected their boyfriends marriage proposal simple because he’s not big enough down there. These class of ladies forgot that size doesn’t guarantee absolute satisfaction during intimate activities; according to modern research on this.

5. Academic qualification:
Agreed, every lady dreams of dating or marrying a nerd or an intellect, but most times, academic qualification or class of degree doesn’t always prove a man’s level of intelligence, smartness, neither does it prove he’s a nerd.

Some 3rd class graduates are more creative, witty than some 1st class graduates.

Some masters degree holders are more intelligent, learned than some professors.

Some OND holders are more smarter, productive and intelligent than some guys who graduated from Ivy League universities.

Most times its luck, opportunity, family background and life’s unforseen uncurrences that land some guys into having the low academic qualification they have, but given time, they may end up higher than the guy with a 1st class today.

So ladies, give guys a fair chance because its not always about degree and qualification; some men who didn’t pass through the walls of higher institution today are employing the so-called graduates from top global universities and such will keep happening till the world ends.

5. Position in the family:
I have heard that ladies do turn down a guy’s marriage proposal because of his position in the family; mostly because he’s the first born child or the first son.

But why?

6. Profession or type of job:
I won’t stress much on this because I won’t entirely blame ladies, but sometimes when I hear it, it sounds funny to me and doesn’t hold water because guys marry ladies irrespective of their profession or type of job. In fact, guys marry even broke, jobless girls, so why discriminate against guys when it comes to their own profession or type of job? What’s good for the goose is also good for the….you know na? Lol

7. Place of meeting:
I have heard that some ladies will never marry a guy they met in a certain place, location or environment.

Though guys are also guilty of this, but to me, it sounds funny because where you meet people doesn’t matter, what matters is how they behave, their character and personality…because the guy you met in a club maybe more disciplined and focused than that guy you met in the church choir or mosque.

I would love to see ladies start reasoning beyond certain things.

Because you met a guy on the social media or internet, you just write him off as a marriage potential, why? Don’t you know its the same people you see going around the street and in church that are also using the internet? Are those ones online ghost?

You can meet your partner anywhere at any time….don’t pre-programme your mind as to where you will meet your partner.

Many ladies believe they will meet their partner in their workplace; big mistake, some believe he is in their church; another great mistake, while some plan to meet him at the airport, in certain highbrow environments where they believe rich guys come….please re-programme your mind now!

You can meet your partner in a public bus (most happy couples met like this), on the road, in the market, online (many have), in the bank (also possible), shopping mall, etc. The ideal thing is; free your mind and give guys a fair chance irrespective of where u met them cos you never can tell.

8. Poor English:

This is the funniest of all to me, lol.

Because he can’t speak Queens English and form Americana, you just tell him: NO! Lolz

Will speaking Queens English put food on the table? I doubt

Will speaking Queens English make him to treat you like a queen, I doubt.

And Nigerian ladies must also understand that English is not Nigeria’s mother tongue…Russians, Germans, French guys, Chinese, Japanese guys don’t speak English o…if he can communicate effectively, why the fuss about phonetic English speaking?

Dear ladies, please help yourselves and also help the guys and make life easier for all.

Please Note: I only felt like sharing my opinion on this issue as a way of enlightening single ladies so that they can make amendments and corrections where necessary for the benefit of both genders. Let’s try and make life easier for ourselves by letting go some funny characters and mindset.

PoliticsAnticipated Risk Analysis Per State For The Nigerian Elections by Imoobot(op): 10:01am On Mar 27, 2015
FYI

1. Abia State
There have been few reported pre-election violence in the state perpetrated by local misceants. Relatively, the state has been peaceful, however, tension or violence as a result of election is anticipated.

2. Adamawa State
This state is under 'technical' state of emergency with presence and activities of non-state actors affecting parts of the State. Partial elections expected along with the unfortunate usual level of violence. Nineteen (19) powerful bombs were recently recovered by the Police in this State giving a hint of what can be expected.

3. Akwa Ibom State
Akwa Ibom state is stable. No pre-election violence has been reported and threat level is low.

4. Anambra State
This state has recorded election violence in the past. Despite no gubernatorial election expected in the state, other electoral activities are being anticipated to be stiff and may be violent.

5.Bauchi State
Bauchi has had a fair share of violence, shootings, explosions etc. The political atmosphere is also charged with intra- and inter-party wranglings. Campaign activities have been welcomed with violent resistance. Hence, there is a high risk of election violence in this state.

6.Bayelsa State
Bayelsa is expected to be relatively peaceful during the election, however there have been pockets of violence as a result of the election. Hence, election violence is anticipated to occur but not widespread.

7.Benue State
Benue is bedeviled by ethnic clashes and external raids on her communities. Ethnic violence may erupt along with political clashes.

8.Borno State

This State, which is under "State of Emergency" is the centre stage of the terrorism currently plagueing the North east. Thousands of casualities have been recorded. It is highly anticipated that election violence may occur in this state.

9.Cross River State
Cross River State is stable. No upset expected. Threat level is low. The only major incident of recent is the unsuccessful attack on the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly which is being considered as a probable armed robbery attack.

10.Delta State
There have been pockets of violence and also anticipated ethnic tension in the State. Election violence is anticipated.

11.Ebonyi State
Election violence is rare and on a small scale. However, there have been communal violence in the past. Also, there have been peaceful protest in support of the embattled governor who has been threatened to be impeached. As a result, the state may record some form of violence during the election but not widespread.

12. Edo State
Normal precautions encouraged although no real threat anticipated apart from clashing supporters of political parties.

13. Ekiti State

Threats and tensions in Ekiti are real and mostly political in nature spurred by the recently concluded gubernatorial election. Violence is expected.

14.Enugu State
Enugu State is relatively peaceful except for the recent bomb blast at the national headquarters of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex socio-cultural umbrella body for the igbo nation and the internal party squabbles. Violence is not expected but precautionary measures should be observed.

15. Gombe State
Gombe is a red-alert location with recent bomb blasts and multiple suicide attacks being witnessed in some locations. Conversely, the political terrain is stable. Violence may be perpetrated by outside elements or miscreants.

16. Imo State

Violence has been rare except for the recent assassination of a Commissioner in the State House of Assembly Commission. Election will be stiff with upsets expected.

17. Jigawa State
Relatively peaceful State. Only incident reported is a recent clash between supporters of political parties in Birni Kudu LGA with no loss of life. Violence may be rare, if any but not widespread.

18. Kaduna State
State serves as the convergence point for the northern elites and has a notorious history of violence of all kinds - ethnic, religious, political etc. The state is anticipated to be tensed during the election by the National Human Right Commission (NHRC).

19.Kano State
Kano remains the heart of Northern Nigeria setting the pace of major events that eventually affects the North, a State mostly on the brink as a result of ethnic-religious crisis. Kano has also witnessed terrorist attacks in the past. As a result, many non-indigenes have fled the State based on past experiences on post-election violence which occurred in the past. There is a high risk of election violence to occur.

20. Katsina State
Katsina state has witnessed some pre-election tensions especially during the campaign exercise. It is anticipated that election violence may spring up.

21.Kebbi State
No recent reported incidents of violence. The political climate is peaceful and calm. Violence is not expected.

22.Kogi State

Relatively peaceful State and gateway to the North. Suffers from sporadic herdsmen attacks on her communities and pockets of violence especially in Ebiraland. Violence is anticipated.

23. Kwara State
Kwara is peaceful and quiet. However, the elections will range from stiff to overrun across the positions and locations. Defection and counter-defection have continued to rock the State with the State Governor defecting to the national opposition party and his opponents moving right across. Upsets expected. Also note that this is the first major election after the demise of the State's extremely strong power broker who died in November 2012. Violence unexpected but threats in some areas are ominous.

24.Lagos State
The battle royale for the soul of Lagos still persist. There have been pockets of violence by supporters of political parties. Also the National Human Right Commission (NHRC) is anticpating the election in Lagos to be violent. As a result, there is a high risk of election violence occurring in Lagos.

25. Nasarawa State
Nasarawa has been and remains a theatre for sectional and ethnic conflicts. The State has a volatile profile.

26. Niger State
The political climate in this state is tensed with massive decamping occuring amongst political parties. Violence is expected.

27. Ogun State
Stiff and close elections expected with possible upsets across the contested offices. Clashes of supporters are commonplace and expected to worsen. Post-election violence is anticipated in pockets.
28
Ondo State
The intra- and inter-party bickerings in this State remains unrivalled. Political party defections have been relatively peaceful with few clashes. However, there is the tendency for tension to increase as the election fast approaches.

Business4 Ways To Trick Your Brain Into Making Better Spending Decisions by Imoobot(op): 12:52pm On Mar 16, 2015
You will probably agree with me that this is not the best of time to toy with money management. But then, life must be lived, and money must be spent to sustain it. How then can you make better spending decisions in these times?

1. Use more of cash & less of ATM cards

Psychologically, it is much more difficult to overspend when you are using cash because of the immediate pain you experience as you watch the cash slip from your hand. People use ATM cards because of its convenience, therefore that immediate painful experience that makes you want to think twice about a purchase is absent when you are transacting with your ATM card. Therefore, as a good money management tip, use more of cash to make purchases.

2. Spend on experience rather than material items

The thing with spending on experience is that it makes you happier than material purchases. Even research shows that if you make material purchases that meet those same needs, they’ll make you just as happy.

For example, you love to watch football. You have to buy a decoder; a material item—but this purchase is one that fosters a relationship in that it helps you bond with your friends and family, and that makes you happy. Making experiential spending is a good money management tip.

3. Record your spending

Emotion drives a lot of people to shop. For example, you may want to get a new phone not because the phone is faulty but because you just feel the phone is old. But, when you start writing your spending down, things become more rational.

The knowledge that you have to write your spending and track it makes it difficult to spend money based on the way you are feeling at that moment and that enables you to spend more wisely and improves your money management skills.

4. Save with a goal

The best way to save money is not to dump a slice of your income in the bank because you think it’s the right thing to do. Saving with a goal in mind is a good money management tip you need to know about.

For example, if you say, “I am saving up to buy a Toyota Camry because it’ll make commuting easier”, you will discover that that anticipatory happiness will enable you to focus, save more, and cut off some excesses. Your likelihood of being successful is higher when you save with a clear goal.

Did you find this helpful? What is your opinion about this? Do you have more tips? Please, leave us a comment. If you find this helpful, please share to your friends.

PoliticsB-r-e-a-k-i-n-g News: Buhari May Drop Out Of Presidential Race By Himself by Imoobot(op): 6:29am On Mar 04, 2015
Nigerians should as a matter of urgency pray for Buhari
instead of condemning him on a daily basis, this is the word
of a close family member who said Nigerians should know
that Muhammadu Buhari is no longer interested in running
for the office of the presidency.
Buhari has made this known to top APC leaders, but it
didn’t go down well with few of them especially those that
have committed a lot of money to sell Buhari to Nigerians.
Buhari is purely acting on instruction of his doctors both
home and abroad, the general have been suffering from
these illness for some time now “prostate cancer, acute
asthma and recently dementia”.

Though dementia is only detected recently but it hasn’t
gotten to the severe stage. It’s good to note that Buhari is
in a very stable condition until the middle of their campaign,
Buhari had literally complain about his bad health during
their campaign that he can’t make it to all the 36 states of
the federation but APC leaders ignored him, all plea by
Buhari’s family members to give Buhari some rest were
turned down. All APC did was to have two doctors and
ambulance on standby in majority of the rallies.
One of the top APC leader also plead for Buhari to have
some rest considering that Buhari haven’t had this level of
campaign before now, unlike his three previous campaign
where he only campaigned in northern part of Nigeria but it
was vehemently ignored by Tinubu himself. The plan APC
leaders are putting on table should they win is for Buhari to
stay in office at least for one year before resigning on the
condition of his bad health. The big questions now are, who
is going to be the President if Buhari resigns within one year
as planned?

Constitutionally the Vice President should take over, but
considering that Pastor Yemi Osibanjo had sworn an oath to
resign his office within six months in office paving way for
Bola Tinubu. Will I be right to say that Bola Amend Tinubu
will become Nigeria’s President by 2017 should APC win
come this March? Or will Pastor Yemi Osibanjo defile his
oath to Tinubu and stay put as the Vice President which will
automatically make him the President of Nigeria by 2017?
Time will tell. Meanwhile effort have been intensified by
Buhari’s immediate family in seeking legal advice on a way
to stop APC financiers not to hold Buhari to ransom in case
he decides to drop out before election.

Christianity EtcThe Stupid Things We Do That Hinder Church Growth by Imoobot(op): 2:37pm On Feb 27, 2015
Barrier 1: Lone Ranger
The most common barrier to church growth that I’ve seen in my own pastoral experience and through working with churches across the country is a leader who tries to do too much of the ministry alone. When I pastored Church on the Lake in Huffman, Texas, I was the one-stop leader shop. I not only preached on Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night, I filled a plethora of other roles: Sunday school superintendent, worship director (though I can’t play or sing), bookkeeper, janitor, maintenance man, men’s ministry director and adult Sunday school teacher. And I mowed the lawn on Saturdays.

Somehow I missed Paul’s meaning in Ephesians 4:11-12: God “gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.”

Rather than equipping the saints for the work of ministry, I was doing the work of ministry and inviting the saints (and sinners) to watch. What my little church needed was a good garage sale.

Every year, the garage at my house becomes so clogged with old decorations, discarded boxes and odd Christmas presents that we have a ruthless garage sale. We start by sorting everything into three piles: keep, sell, trash. My goal is always to make the “keep” pile the smallest.

What if we did the same thing as leaders?

Make a list of everything you do for the church. Then divide that list into three columns: stuff only you can do, stuff someone else should do and stuff no one should do. Once you have the lists, begin giving away the responsibilities on the “someone else” list and eliminating those on the “no one” list.

Your church is far more likely to grow as you become an expert at giving away ministry and focusing on the important things God has called you to do.

Barrier 2: Hard Questions
A second barrier to growth is failure to face the hard questions. Have you ever asked why you have a Sunday morning service? (Other than on Sunday afternoon when you’re thinking, “Why do I do this? Please God, let me do something else.”) It’s amazing that we do the same thing every weekend, week after week, year after year, and we seldom ask why we’re doing it.

Are you there to carry on a tradition? To feed the saints who show up every week? Entertain visitors who may or may not come back next week? Or are you driven by a desire to make God famous and to bring honor to His name whatever it takes?

If the purpose of your Sunday morning service is to make God famous, is it happening? Would He be proud of the way you care for your building? Does your approach to worship bring joy to His heart? What about the sermon you preached last weekend? Would God say, “Wow, you really did everything you possibly could to build My reputation through that message”?

Another hard question we need to ask is, “Who are we trying to reach?” Who has God placed in your path and called you to reach with the Good News? The answer to that question will have large implications on what your church will look like. When I was at Seacoast Church, we opened a campus in an urban part of Charleston, S.C.; we knew our target had changed. Chris Tomlin songs had to give way to Kirk Franklin’s hip-hop beats, and some of our suburban lingo would need to shift if we wanted to connect with our new neighbors.

Hanging out at Starbucks on Sunday mornings helps me figure out who our church needs to reach. Once the church people clear out (in our area, they’re the ones in the coats and ties), I’m surrounded by people who don’t wake up each weekend thinking about church. These are the people we need to reach.

I settle in and take notes on the people around me. How old are the other customers? How are they dressed? What are they talking about? Are they married? Then I compare that data to our church on Sundays. Are we applying the timeless truth of the Gospel to the issues and interests people are talking about? If the people I saw at Starbucks were to drop by our church, would they fit in? So next Sunday, try skipping church and going to Starbucks. I think you’ll be amazed at how much you learn about your community by doing some holy eavesdropping over a tall chai latte.

Barrier 3: The Curse of Knowledge
Chip and Dan Heath in their book Made to Stick (Random House) introduce an interesting concept they call the Curse of Knowledge. The basic idea is: You can’t not know what you already know—and once you know it, it’s very difficult to remember what it’s like to not know. I experienced this recently at the Department of Motor Vehicles.

I needed to register a new (to me) car, so I headed to our local DMV. When they called my number, I took my stack of documents to the counter. When I told the DMV employee that I needed a license plate and a title, she looked like I had slapped her favorite baby seal. “You cannot have a title today,” she explained. “You’ll have to wait 10 days.” Chagrined and ashamed of my ignorance, I stared blankly across the counter. “So what do you want to do?” she asked. We were at an impasse; she knew how to do that special magic that makes a car legal to drive in our state, but I didn’t know the correct way to ask her to make it happen.

The Curse of Knowledge: I knew too little and she knew too much. All day every day she registers cars and doles out titles (after a 10-day wait apparently), but she cannot relate to someone who doesn’t understand the process. She doesn’t remember what it’s like not to know.

Imagine walking into your church for the first time. Maybe you have never been in a church before, or maybe this is the first time in many, many years. Imagine listening to the music, hearing the sermon. Imagine feeling a tug on your heart and knowing you need to do something to be connected with God, but you have no idea what you should do or how you should do it. Imagine hearing about “small groups” and “Bible fellowship” and “baptism.” Imagine having someone say you need to “ask Jesus into your heart so you can be saved” and wondering what in the world this is all about.

Many of us have been in the church so long we have completely lost touch with what it’s like not to know. Things like communion, public prayer and taking an offering seem very normal to us, but they can be quite intimidating to the uninitiated. If we want to improve our ability to connect with “outsiders,” we have to find a way to see Sunday through their eyes, to get past the Curse of Knowledge.

Gaining fresh perspective requires intentionality, strategy and consistency. A few ideas to try:

• Ask new attendees for their feedback. We did this at Seacoast. All who identified themselves as new attendees received a postcard asking for their input. This was invaluable over time as we made significant discoveries about ourselves. For instance, we heard repeatedly that newcomers liked our worship service, but they felt like our congregation wasn’t friendly. We thought we were very friendly, but we realized we were only friendly to people we already knew. We responded by challenging our people to become “guerrilla greeters” and spend the first and last five minutes of every service talking to people they hadn’t met before. Over the next few months, first-time attendees began to remark on the friendliness of our congregation.

• Trade pulpits with another pastor for a weekend. After you’ve preached at each other’s churches, get together and compare notes. Encourage your pastor friend to be ruthless; it’s the only way you will learn. We even tried a Secret Shopper service. For a relatively small fee, companies will send a Secret Shopper to your church for a Sunday service, then send you a report on this visitor’s experience (similar to Outreach magazine’s “Mystery Visitor” department based on a report from FaithPerceptions.com). Now I know there is a high “ick” factor to paying someone to come to your church and getting anonymous feedback as though you are some kind of fast-food religion store. Here’s the way I see it: McDonald’s feels that selling hamburgers is so important that they will pay people to rate them on how well they do it. I feel that making an effective presentation of the Gospel is so important that I’m willing to pay people to give me feedback on how well we do it.

One of the Fastest-Growing (Small) Churches in America
For several years, I walked alongside my friend Brett Thompson as he has worked through each of these barriers, moving his congregation in Greensboro, N.C., from a long period of stagnation to a season of rapid expansion. Brett delegated or eliminated many of the tasks he used to do. He focused on the hard questions, bringing in outsiders to give feedback on how the weekend experience could be improved. And Brett led his congregation past the Curse of Knowledge to seeing the church through the eyes of a newcomer. As a result, the church experienced rapid growth.

Wherever your church is today, you can see it grow as you remove the barriers and let God do the growth thing.
