*dhtml:
maybe i am biased. but interestingly, despite knowing all those core stuffs about joomla, how to create my own registration, create
components, modules. , templates. . . .i find out that most of the time, i just download out of the gazillions of addons rather than
build my own. The only things i have built that i used so far with joomla is a couple of templates and modules which are all very basic.
By the way, if you are a joomla user and u wish to quickly build modules, you can take a look at the module template builder on my site
www..com - it will create the basic module skeleton and you can add your own codes to it.
DHTML where are you hosting your website its taking forever to open undecided

WebmastersRe: Programmers Are Gods, Designers Their Creations. by inf8nity(m): 6:04pm On Sep 04, 2009
Rejoice and be glad programmers, we are ahead and will continue to be. We create and they use. We are more than they can ever imagine.
U got 2 give designers sum credit though. Remember the templates you use? cheesy They did create them and you are using them this reminds of the old age question - which one came first the egg or the hen?
ComputersRe: How Do I Restore A Hidden Folder On My Flash Drive? by inf8nity(m): 5:52pm On Sep 04, 2009
Or you could open your hidden folder using winrar. Then create a new folder preferably on you desktop now select all your files and drag and drop them on your new folder on ur desktop. Easy huh?
ComputersRe: I Wnt To Put My Site On Goolge Search Engine Help Me by inf8nity(m): 5:46pm On Sep 04, 2009
Hi coachbro!
there are three ways to do this;
1) submitting the url to google via http://www.google.com/addurl/
2) submit your site map via http://www.google.com/webmasters/
3) linking your site from an already indexed website e.e nairaland.com grin

Let me know if u need more help on that.
WebmastersRe: Website Review Www.ymca: - Tech Pros by inf8nity(m): 5:22pm On Sep 04, 2009
<span class="style1">Bauchi YMCA Ongoing Projects</span> for the index page and <td height="34" align="left" valign="middle" class="topred">Fill the form below to Support Us @ Ymca Bauchii</td> for the support YMCA page doesn't look good with brown image on the background ill advise u to try another color probably a diff shade of blue.

5) http://www.ymcabauchi.org/supportYmca.php - I select Nicaragua, hit enter and I get a lightbox-type popup telling me there is no content. Fair enough. What pissed me off is that, there was no way for me to get rid of the modal window. Crashed my browser man (I use FF). What if I don't want to speak with your team?
Try using Grey box instead its lightweight and cute grin here is the download link http://orangoo.com/labs/GreyBox/Download/
WebmastersRe: Font Not Showing On Website. by inf8nity(m): 7:05am On Sep 04, 2009
*dhtml:
Although you can embed your fonts dynamically by adding the font on your site. The fonts are usually located in window/fonts.
I used this technique only once, but it is not adviseable. Maybe if you are working on a local intranet stuff.
Check out this article, it explains better http://www.netmechanic.com/news/vol3/css_no15.htm
You can use the above but the only limitation is that it is only used with OpenType (.otf) but not TrueType (.ttf) . Only safari 3.1 supports the licensed .ttf at the moment so that again brings us to the major issue of browser compatibility. Rule of the thumb stick to common fonts. cheesy
WebmastersRe: Where To Get Javaw.exe by inf8nity(m): 9:12pm On Sep 03, 2009
phemmy008:
Hi, can anybody help me on or where to get javaw.exe for download? thanks
javaw.exe works with Internet explorer as a plugin the only difference between javaw.exe and java.exe is that the former runs with no console window.

Try checking this path: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_09\ jre\ bin\

If u don't find it u need to install java a fresh.
WebmastersRe: Font Not Showing On Website. by inf8nity(m): 8:55pm On Sep 03, 2009
Hi HC,
You cant control the font on other people's computers. The font will only show if it is installed in that computer therefore i would advice that you stick to the common fonts for your web pages and use the rare ones in your images or flash animation.

allimercy:
Joomla is very flexible and can do anything you want it to do, the only problem is that when you install a component, it is not SEF like Wordpress. So one needs to do a little bit tweak to the component.

Wordpress is really good for both SEF and SEO, and I think the usage of any depends on the project  and the mission of the site.
Allimercy i partially disagree with your statement that joomla isn't SEF like wordpress when u install a componet. When u enter the admin section of the site there is a page for global Configuration there u will find three options that will help you make your joomla site SEF.

Further more for every article and menu there is an alias text box which u can fill so that u can make ur URL as SEF as possible. So in terms of power and flexibility on SEF Joomla tops wordpress for me.

Lastly joomla has many out of the box SEO extensions that u just install and enter a few parameters then you are good to go!

WebmastersRe: What Cool Joomla Site(s) Have You Seen? by inf8nity(m): 11:25am On Sep 01, 2009
badesemowo:
@infinity . Did you know you can actually move the administrator folder, remove the tp=1 from showing module position, in Joomla, not that I think the doctors would have the resources (and business case) to do that but that its possible.
More high profile guys (internationally) are using open source systems instead of investing in new codes. They invest in removing the common fingerprints of the codes.
@badesemowo thanks i only knew of the tp=1 hack but not the admin folder! Coming to think of it that's really a lot of work considering there are a large number of components and modules that when installed depend on files in the administrator folder. One will have to go through lots of files especially for a large site changing the file path in the scripts. When it comes to updating components and modules instead of the few clicks upgrade u still have to go through the "painful process" again! cheesy
WebmastersRe: Do You Know Php And Mysql? by inf8nity(m): 1:59pm On Aug 31, 2009
My advice never mix MICROSOFT with open source its just sad cry Nways as dhtml puts it if really want to go the ASP way take ASP.NET cms really powerful framework. But why pay if you can get it for free? Free downloads, free scripts, free tutorials and a free community of developers ready to advise and help. All u need is just some few sleepless nights and u r good to go! That is if you go the WAMP or XAMP route.
WebmastersRe: Smf Vs Vbulletin Vs Phpbb by inf8nity(m): 1:50pm On Aug 31, 2009
SMF is lightweight and feature rich compared to phpbb. PhbBB on the other hand is like the "free version of Vbulletin" though very prone to spambots. Vbulletin tops for me due to its thousands of mods, themes and plugins and you just cant beat the security. The development team is constantly updating security patches. one thing though, vbulletin is really heavy and resource intensive. It surely takes longer than the other two to setup and configure but once its up and running the other two start competing for the number 2 slot grin
WebmastersRe: As A Web Designer What Makes You Unique? by inf8nity(m): 2:48pm On Aug 29, 2009
@ cactus and yawa-ti-de
I think designer = layout and presentation .Programmer = codes. While developer = designer+programmer.
WebmastersRe: Social Networking Dilema Feat Drupal Vs Joomla by inf8nity(m): 2:43pm On Aug 29, 2009
@mambenanje
Its true everyone can install joomla but how many can make good use of its features to come up with a superb website?
WebmastersRe: Social Networking Dilema Feat Drupal Vs Joomla by inf8nity(m): 2:40pm On Aug 29, 2009
*dhtml:
Exactly. minimal effort is very important. That now depends on what you want. If i can write a script that will save me ages of coding. . .then why waste time especially if i cannot download it? So, in essense, i support using what is already existing, and i also believe in creating plugins and addons when i can. At the end of the day, to have something done and packaged professionally, that is all there is to it.
For the short time i have been using joomla, i have never had to build a component or plugin yet (because so far i have found all i needed), and the ones i do not have, i import them in from my code library (thanks to the custom_page plugin) and stuffs like custom_php
@dhtml That tells me you are no longer for drupal cheesy
WebmastersRe: Social Networking Dilema Feat Drupal Vs Joomla by inf8nity(m): 1:54pm On Aug 29, 2009
@dhtml don't u think u will be working so hard to make ur framework compatible with the major frameworks? I mean every time they update u also got to go back to ur code and update. Thus making u a slave of the other frameworks. smiley

yawa-ti-de:
If you have the money or your client does, there is a paid social networking plugin for joomla! though I forget the name. I hear it is more flexible than CB. I didn't have the money to spare and so have never used it grin
@ yawa-ti-de i think the component u are referring to is JOMSOCIAL it costs $99 for the standard edition and $149 for pro.

@ dhtml my advice don't try to reinvent the wheel. Take joomla + cb and move on!U can have a lot of control over joomla once u understand its "markup language". You will have ur site running in less than 24hrs. Drupal on the other hand is no longer widely used as most people have ditched it for joomla ofcoz me included. grin This is due to the large joomla community and availability of a wide variety extensions ready to install. You could also try out social engine which has lots and lots of mods to extend it though you got to dig really dip into ur pockets around $250.
