You must be a proud brat.. As of now MTN foundation scholarship is the highest paying at 200,000 per session. NLNG is 100k and shell is 75k, so you need to tell me how you came up with such inflated figures. BTW you are not supposed to be in more than one scholarship. What's your full name? |
Please a client contacted me to move his WordPress site from MTN host to a better hosting company since the MTN host was always giving him problem. I bought a hosting space from Godaddy, but on requesting for domain transfer an ID was sent to the admin email address of MTN (admin@mtnbusiness.com.ng). I have called MTN several times to help me with the ID since I need it to authorize the transfer, but it seems they are unwilling to help.I am now stuck with either allowing the domain to expire or going for a new one altogether. Any help? |

Please forgive me for the format of the post above. I am posting with my phone. I will edit and restructure when I get a PC. |
I'm inclined to write on this issue not because I support underage marriage but because at times it is neccessary to correct some positions which are ignorantly held by some people. The Major problem we have in this country is the speed at which we comment on issues that we have no knowledge of. I watched the senate proceedings few days ago where the senate voted on the constitutional amendment. Midway into the proceedings, the Senate president asked the senate to vote for or against the removal of section 29(4)b of the 1999 constitution as amended. For the purpose of those who are not conversant with the constitution, I will reproduce the said clause beginning from Section 4(a)...Section 4(a) says "full age means the age of eighteen years and above".......section 4(b) says "any woman who is married shall be deemed of full age". Now the amendment as submitted by the joint committee on constitutional amendment was geared towards deleting section 4(b). When the question was put to vote, majority of the senators (more than 2/3) voted for the removal of the clause. However, Senator Yerima stood up and posited that removing that clause will offend islamic law. I must at this point say that I'm not a muslim and I cannot confirm or deny the veracity of that assertion by Senator Yerima. However, due to the pressure from Senator Yerima and Senator Goje, the Senate president decided to take a second vote on the issue. After the vote was cast, majority of the senators voted for its removal but unfortunately this majority was not up to 73 as required by the constitution. But as it is common with Nigerians, the social media was agog with the story that the senate has endorsed underage marriage in Nigeria. Now my question is ''how can we possibly say the senate has endorsed underage marriage when in actual fact that clause has been in our constitution since 1999? The senate actually voted for its removal but could not ganer the required 2/3. It must be noted that that same clause will still have to pass the stringest test of the house of representatives and the various houses of assembly. How are we sure the house of representatives will vote for it to be retained? Lets assume the house of rep and the various houses of assembly vote for it to be retained, the germane question here is whether that clause makes underage marriage lawful in Nigeria when interpreted literarily. My answer to this question is No. The clause says "any woman who is married shall be deemed to be of full age" .what this means is that if a five years old girl decides to get married, she is deemed to be 18 years and above. However, the clause does not in anyway say that you can marry an underage girl without her/her parents consent. What this means is that if its true that islamic law allows underage marriage like senator Yerima posited, then you cannot question a muslim who gives out his 5years old daughter for marriage willingly. At this rate, what we should concentrate on is making efforts to enlighten our people most especially those in the north (no offence meant) against the dangers of early marriage rather than going to the public to pass half baked information. Finally I want those promoting this senate and underage story to take a look at section 29(4)b of the 1999 constitution as amended so that they can criticise constructively. That notwitstanding, we must ask our senators why they voted against people oriented amendments like Local Government Autonomy. God bless Nigeria. www.facebook.com/theinfoscope |

Nice one Mod. A little advice to Nigerian students; instead of sitting down in your house and grumble about ASUU and FG, make yourself productive. Look for something doing, it might just be that opportunity that will propel you into something big. Every disappointment is a blessing in disguise. Have a positive attitude and I bet you wont regret it when the strike is finally called off |
Admin, please remove this post to avoid misconception. Many might not be opportuned to read this post to the end and the rumour might spread to others and it would be a post from our notable nairaland thanks |
Does today look like April 1st? |
