I think it depends on the couple and the type of relationship they have. I don't mind being called sweetie, honey, baby, etc. I just get annoyed when its over the top.

@OP: If my first boyfriend comes back into my life and I'm married, I'd impress him by showing him that I actually did keep my promise and improve my Spanish then I'd ask him how his life is going. . . That's if he didn't become the famous graphic designer he said he wanted to be.

You know some people do the whole constant phone call thing because they think that that's what they need to do in a relationship. For example, I'm involved with this dude who likes to make up dumb pet names. With all honesty, I hate that sort of stuff. He wanted to to call me stuff like chocolate chip sweetie pie and kissey chocolate muffin. Ewwww!!! Just the thought of that made me sick since that kinda stuff isn't my thing. Its like for him, he thinks it validates whatever it is we have going on or that it what being with someone is all about tongue

Poster, it doesn't matter what happened to your new girlfriend. You shouldn't pressure her to have sex, or attend sex therapy. She is right to avoid sex, since she had to go through a whole lot of pain at the expense of some sick twisted person's pleasure. If you decide to marry this girl then during the serious courtship period you can both go to therapy and she can learn to trust you enough that she feels like you won't hurt her. Right now you are a mere new boyfriend and she will feel unsafe, and the fact that you threatened her has compounded the issue.
