I'm a bit disappointed to see that you're part of this dishonest trend as well. This vehicle had all this undercarriage and body damage and you just chose not to disclose that. You will have yourself to blame for the fallout.

There's no major damage bros
@carlosz
This damage is minor, the seller should have provided this information, however. It can only enhance your sale when buyers know you'll disclose any information about your vehicles, majority minor.

Morning.
I see what you've been up to, it's commendable.

However it's not just about digging up the history and posting the information on these threads. It's about getting the sellers who open these threads to understand the message being passed across. Diclose the relevant information and do your due diligence so you don't claim ignorance after you've been exposed.
I'd encourage you to strike up a conversation first, perhaps ask them if the vehicle is accidented, or simply make a comment to encourage them to post the relevant information. Only after this is ignored, or the seller disappears in some cases, should you proceed to help them out.

Oh, and there are other even more qualified stakeholders here.

You'll notice I've used just one seller as an example. There are others like him. So far he's done a remarkable job of being transparent, and his vehicles never stay unsold for too long.

If dealers follow this your advice, no one will sell
Perhaps you don't understand the message your statement passes across. It basically means that if these sellers are transparent and fully disclose the history of their merchandise then they would be unable to sell them?

That is quite inaccurate, and I'll illustrate with a few examples.
However, if this were really the case, then these sellers would all need to find a new place to continue with their shady and dishonest practices.

Yeah very true, Thanks
It's not some big hidden secret Sir. It's just a temporary solution. The long term solution and magic bullet is to make VIN posting a requirement for all sellers here. Do that, and watch the rats scurry off to other sites to continue.

This is the point where any well meaning webmaster or site owner would declare a state of emergency on the autos section before an online dispute has serious real world consequences.
AutosRe: Shocking Transformation Of Some Crashed Cars Sold In Nigeria (Photos) by Ipfreely: 6:18pm On Mar 03, 2018
Truth is that these dealers have perfected the art of bad deals, packaging and delivering defective goods in lieu of clean vehicles, and sometimes despite best efforts, they may pull one over on you. But with DUE DILIGENCE, those odds diminish.
OR you could go another route and have one of the SEEMING trustworthy pre-order agents here handle your business, depending on your impression after researching their pedigree. In that case, you get to choose the vehicles you want so you know their entire history from start till they're in your possession. This may be more expensive, but certainly worth it for the discerning individual.
AutosRe: Shocking Transformation Of Some Crashed Cars Sold In Nigeria (Photos) by Ipfreely: 6:13pm On Mar 03, 2018
You should proceed with any vehicle only after you're satisfied with the carfax findings.
Inasmuch as tokunbo vehicles are supposedly in good condition, if you're not auto savvy and have little experience you should go with someone you rely on and who has some experience to spot the signs. RUST, the telling scent of moisture from the air vents of a flooded vehicle OR over the top air freshers to mask scents, lack of symmetry in body lines, mismatched headlamps, the list is endless.
AutosRe: Shocking Transformation Of Some Crashed Cars Sold In Nigeria (Photos) by Ipfreely: 6:04pm On Mar 03, 2018
When you come across a vehicle you're interested In and you ask the seller for the VIN, note his(OR her) reaction.
If any seller declines to provide the VIN at all, please do yourself a favour and move on.
If the seller insists on your physical presence at the vehicle location to get the VIN, and it's a convenient time and a safe location for You, then visit. As soon as you see the vehicle, locate the vin, do a brief inspection, then run a vin search.
You can contact computerglobal via 08060365068, he provides any of the categories of reports depending on your budget and details you have in mind.
For a complete and thorough vehicle history, request a Carfax report.

There are a number of other POTENTIAL red flags, but perhaps the most blatant, raging-bull matador red flag of them all is the deliberate absence of VIN on a 'tokunbo' vehicle advert.
Close to 100% of these dubious and very dishonest sellers in the autos section would never display a VIN, and most of them, even when reminded, would respond very negatively and aggressively.
Examples.
https://www.nairaland.com/4353427/2010-toyota-corolla-toks-2.7
https://www.nairaland.com/4353188/2011-camry-sale-tokubo
I could literally go on and on with the examples, I encourage you to go through my posts and those of other concerned individuals here e.g. cosplay, obekediamondfuto and the rest.
AutosRe: Shocking Transformation Of Some Crashed Cars Sold In Nigeria (Photos) by Ipfreely: 5:50pm On Mar 03, 2018
Sellers may also post one photo and leave a number to be contacted via whatsapp. This just makes no sense. What legit seller would prefer the more stressful route to display their merchandise? Let's be logical, wouldn't any genuine businessperson choose the easiest route to let clients see their products, would you open a shop in a market, then leave it empty with just a phone number on the door and ask clients to call You?

There are a number of ways to obtain information about 'tokunbo' vehicles put up for sale in this section and on this forum, including some quite unconventional ways. It would be a really long read to attempt to explain all of these individually.
The most important and the most useful is a VIN report. There are various types of VIN reports as well, the most reliable is a CARFAX report. It contains almost every imaginable detail about a vehicle history. The other types, including autocheck, provide a basic background for the vehicle, while other categories also delve into recalls and other general information.
If you come across a vehicle you're interested In on this forum, the very first thing you should do is check the advert for telltale signs or red flags. These may sometimes just be accidental omissions, but very often are deliberately left out.
Incomplete photos of the vehicle. Seller includes photos of the engine bay OR the rear OR the front, etc, and leaves out other important areas.
Example:

https://www.nairaland.com/4370580/toks-honda-pilot-2004-2.5m
Will break this post down into several parts.

Wrong thread for this Sir. Go through the section and you'll come across threads by various parties offering various vehicles in various conditions.
Just do your due diligence, never assume dealers or sellers would be honest and upfront with you about vehicles, which would make you alert to the tricks and mind games the dealers play, and you'll be alright.
AutosRe: Toks 2012 Highlander Fullest Option by Ipfreely: 5:19pm On Mar 03, 2018
The phrase isn't really the point. The point is to present the facts about your vehicle. Omitting the accurate facts is just as wrong and dubious as stating wrong facts.

Then there was the case I've dubbed

'The Curious Case Of The Vanishing Miles'

In this case, the vehicle lost hundreds of thousands of miles of mileage between the US and its arrival for sale in Lagos. Remains a true mystery.
That's not even to mention its accidented status and the anger of the seller at being exposed.

These are some of the greatest hits(intended). This vehicle sustained significant rollover damage. Of course it was advertised with 'accident free' and 'clean' and 'direct belgium'

AutosRe: Shocking Transformation Of Some Crashed Cars Sold In Nigeria (Photos) by Ipfreely: 9:34am On Mar 03, 2018
I believe that just posting these images without their individual contexts doesn't really convey the message. The shady practices on the autos section are literally incredible.
From accidented vehicles misrepresented as 'clean', to the numerous flooded vehicles, in one case one seller claimed to have done nothing wrong because he posted accident free though the vehicle he advertised was flooded.
His argument?
A poster asked if it was accident free, and the poster didn't mention flood.
Take a stroll over there and enter the wild west.

Matter of fact, one of these vehicles you just posted above, which had its true history exposed this week, is currently being offered by another seller, still claiming 'accident free'.
I would link to the thread but your thread, your rules.

'Some' cars on Nairaland, not 'all' cars on Nairaland.

For many years, we blame our leaders, our government, politicians that they are thieves, corrupt, they are liars and so on.

But have we checked ourselves?

Are we in any way better?

If given the chance to hold their offices, are we not going to do worse?

Where we are now, our homes, streets, offices, little businesses we doing, how do we deal with our clients, our partners, colleagues, neighbors, friends, relatives and so onhuh

Have we been fair enough, have been transparent or honest enoughhuh

As a car dealer, i think your clients have the right to know about everything you know about the car you're selling to them.

Some of these cars were posted here on Nairaland accident free untill some guys started running the lot number/VIN

Most time, some dealers claim clean title cars are too expensive, that's why they go for cars with minor crashes.

I agree, clean title cars are expensive, but some of these dealers will still brand the accidented cars to be accident free cars, selling it thesame price with clean title.

Imagine a seriouly wrecked 2007 camry SE going for 3.4m, maybe asking price.

Sometimes is not about the money or price, but the disclosure, the transparency, let your customers no what they're buying.

If you tell them and don't buy, others will buy.

Minor accidents or major accidents, tell your clients.

Then, some of these dealers on Nairaland are middle men/salesmen, they advertise and sell cars for people without knowing much about the history of what they're posting or selling.

You have a name to protect.

Three years ago my brother was a victim, bought a Toks 2009 camry XLE from a dealership in Akure, 3.1m

3months later car started showing itself, today not engine starting, tomorrow A.C. not working, next tomorrow power steering, next oil leakage, overheating, fuel pump, next braking system, or wiring problems, just within 10months of purchase.

They were working on the electronics one day when one of the tech guys run the VIN, you wont believe the history.

The accident must have claimed lives, it was non-repairable.

But maybe with magic they repaired and my brother bought it.

We went back to the dealer to ask him about the history.

He was still claiming accident free until we show him the pictures, he started giving excuses that it was a mistake.

But thank God today, he has nothing on his stand.

My bro used the car for 1 year and about 3months, sold it to his mechanic for 900k

The present condition of a car is important, as long as it's working fine, but the history is important as well.

Please disclose history of your cars to your buyers, customers right from Nairaland.

Not until they come for physical inspection, like one of the posters of these cars said yesterday.

You didn't disclose the history here, but you will disclose the accident the car involved when buyers come for physical inspection, when you're smelling money, that's when you will now tell them that the cars had accidents and show them the pictures.

This is a 2014 Honda Accord going for over 5m here on Nairaland.

Imagine you're buying this honda and the dealer is just showing you the picture of the accidenthuh

These cars are still up for sale
You haven't even scratched the surface. These examples aren't even top 20 in the rogues gallery. With your permission I'm sure my brethren would be glad to post photos of even worse examples.
