The Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners of Nigeria has said that veteran actor, Ebun Oloyede, aka Olaiya Igwe, will face a disciplinary committee, set up by the association.

According to the association, this regards a video that shows him praying nude for the victory of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, in the 2023 poll.

According to The Gavel, the president of TAMPAN, Otunba Bolaji Amusan made the disclosure last Thursday at a meeting of the Central Working Committee of the association.

It was the first meeting of the committee after the swearing-in ceremony of the new executives which was held on December 3, 2022.

During the meeting, Olaiya was accused of encouraging acts capable of compromising the association’s core values and acting totally against the norms of the culture that it holds.

According to Amusan, if TAMPAN failed to take necessary actions on such issues, similar issues would ride on such negligence to deter the association’s progress.

“Acknowledging the right of every member to belong to any political party of their choice, Otunba Amusan explained that each member is expected to deploy their sense of creativity with a standard level of decorum. He said each practitioner of the Arts of the theatre and movie-making ought to be conscious that the general interest and good of the society override personal interests.

“TAMPAN President emphasized the need to ensure total sanitization of the Association and ensure members operate within the moral and cultural precepts as enshrined in the Association:s constitution. He said if gold could be allowed to go rust, the fate of ordinary metals would be worse.

“He concluded that Chief Ebun Oloyede would be made to face a disciplinary committee in spite of his status within the Association and would be eventually dealt with accordingly if found to be guilty of conducting his practice in a way that could subject TAMPAN to public ridicule.

“This, he said, was to act as a deterrent to any member who might already be seeing the viral video as another creative dimension and precedence. He explained that Media and Publicity Directorate remains critical to the overall success of TAMPAN and therefore urged the Directorate to work very hard so as to achieve total rebranding of the Association,” a statement by the association read.

Earlier, the Chairperson of the Lagos State Park and Garages Management, Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, gifted Olaiya a car.

On 10 August, a clip of MC Oluomo gifting the veteran actor a Mercedes Benz as a birthday present went viral.

On receiving the surprise car gift, Olaiya prostrated and rolled on the floor in gratitude to MC Oluomo.

The video posted by MC Oluomo’s son showed the elated and visibly shocked actor prostrating and rolling on the floor to appreciate the gesture.

Expectedly, he was criticised for prostrating himself on the ground for MC Oluomo, who is considered younger than he is. Because of that action, critics ridiculed the actor on social media.

Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said his regular visits to churches are to solicit for prayers for his candidacy from worshippers and not campaign.

Obi made this known in a statement issued by the Head of Media, Obi-Datti Campaign Organization, Diran Onifade, in Abuja on Thursday.

The statement said the former Governor of Anambra’s visits to churches were consistent with his ways, and not prompted by politics as claimed by opposition parties.

It also disclosed that Obi was not championing sectional or religious interests in his quest to be elected Nigeria’s next President in 2023, noting that his candidacy is being driven solely by a patriotic determination to birth a new Nigeria.

However, the statement said attempts to label the LP flagbearer as a champion of sectional interests in a bid to douse his current popular standing as the obvious choice of the majority of Nigerians will fail.

It noted previous efforts by Obi’s detractors to tag him as a mere social media candidate without any political structure on the ground failed, hence the new propaganda.

The statement reads: “It said because of Obi’s high visibility, mischievous people see his frequent appearances at churches or secular programmes as religious adventures with political undertones, pointing out that anyone knowledgeable about the LP flag bearer’s past knows that he has always been a regular sight at church services irrespective of the denomination.

“Even as Governor, Obi has always been involved in religious issues whether Christianity or Islam. He always seeks prayers for himself from those around him including subordinates because he sees himself as a child of God’s abundant grace and therefore needs constant supplications.

“As Governor, Obi sponsored Muslims to Mecca for Hajj and always urged them to pray for him. Obi, although a Catholic, has not limited himself to his faith even before becoming a presidential candidate. We recall vividly that when Pastor Adeboye visited Anambra state to dedicate a church built by one of the top Anambra citizens in Nnewi, Obi was physically there with the revered Pastor.

“These instances are verifiable to buttress the fact that the LP Presidential flag bearer has been consistent in his way of life as it relates to his faith, prayers and relationship with his maker.

“There is nowhere he gave a kobo to any church or pastor. We also understand the frustration of Obi’s opponents who lack the physical and mental strength to go around seeking God’s face in his project and have chosen the easy way, which is blackmail and slander.

“Having seen their previous attempts at whittling down Obi’s popularity among Nigerian founders in the most spectacular manner, they are currently embarking on another miserable attempt at derailing what is obviously a fast-moving train. Their mission now is to label Obi a jingoist of religion and tribe in a bid to curry favour with other religious or ethnic interests.

“If Obi is to be cubby-holed, he should be seen as a candidate of the youths and the poor in society whom he identified as the victims of successive federal administrations. While Obi is making frantic efforts to market himself to the Nigerian people with issue-driven campaigns, his detractors are busy trying hard to tag him as a candidate of one faith. But the plain and irreducible truth is that Obi’s candidacy cuts across every divide.” He said.

Twitter - Daniel Bwala, one of the spokespersons of the Atiku/Okowa presidential campaign organisation has accused the Tinubu/Shettima presidential campaign organisation of carrying out its frustrations on the Arise TV and ThisDay newspaper management.

Bwala was reacting to the war of words between the media group and the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign spokespersons.

Tinubu's spokespersons have been involved in a war of words with the ThisDay/Arise media group. While the media group accused the ruling party's chieftains of trying to stifle free speech, the APC campaign spokespersons accused Nduka Obiaghena, founder of Arise TV/ThisDay newspaper of engaging in corrupt acts in the past.

Bwala, a former APC chieftain, now with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said the recent outing of Tinubu in Chatham House has caused frustration in the ruling party's camp.

He wrote on Twitter:

“Frustrated by utter failure in their Chatham house comedy skits, and possible denial of entry to the United States, they decided to unleash democratic mayhem on anyone at sight. Their first casualty is Arise TV and ThisDay. A stitch in time saves nine.”
‘Present Tinubu for debates, bullying media won’t work’ - Obaigbena tells APC
In a rebuttal issued on Wednesday, December 14, through Fauziya Mohammed, his chief of staff, Obaigbena said contrary to the claims of the APC campaign spokespersons, ThisDay does not owe tax authorities in South Africa.

In a statement seen by Legit.ng, Obaigbena said if they have any evidence, they should publish it, adding that:

“No misinformation, fake news of Bayo Onanuga and Dele Alake will change Obaigbena’s global trajectory.”
2023: I thank God I am not Tinubu's running mate, says Dogara
Meanwhile, ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara, has declared that he is grateful he is not Tinubu's running mate in the forthcoming 2023 presidential election.

Dogara made the comment during an interaction with journalists in Bauchi while reacting to a question that he is not supporting the APC presidential candidate because he was not chosen as the vice presidential candidate of the ruling party.

He said:

“I am more than grateful to God that it didn’t happen and so many friends and well wishers have also said to me they are thanking God daily that I am not on that ticket granted what they now see and know about the candidate.”

In a related development, a civil society organisation the Action Alliance of Virginia Pavilion, has called on the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, to disqualify Tinubu from the 2023 presidential contest.

The group in a letter seen by Legit.ng on Tuesday, December 13, stated that Tinubu by virtue of his forfeiture of the sum of $460, 000 to the United States government in 1993 is not fit to hold public office.

In the letter dated Monday, November 14 and signed by the group's lawyer, Mr Kalu Kalu, the group argued that Section 137(1)(d) of the 1999 Constitution forbids anyone under a fine for any offence involving dishonesty or fraud from vying for the office of president in Nigeria.
