My dear, the reason why so many Nigerians are reluctant to pay taxes is because of the endemic corruption in the system. They are not seeing the dividends of the tax they are paying. Imagine paying heavy estimated bills on electricity, yet no power. You have a shop and the local government harasses you every week for one tax or the other yet the road where your shop is located is unmotorable. The system is rigged to fail and it is the mindset of the average Nigerian that the tax they pay will be looted to fund the lifestyle of the elite political class.
