CrimeRobbers Kill Catholic Priest, brother In Ondo State by ishowdotgmail(op): 12:01am On Jun 02, 2015
A gang of armed robbers killed a Catholic Priest, identified as Reverend Father Onyeka, and his younger brother, Obi Onyeka, while travelling on the Owo-Oba-Akoko Road, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State on Sunday.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Wole Ogodo, who disclosed this to The PUNCH on Monday, said the robbers were operating on the road when the victims ran into them.

He explained that the victims were travelling in Toyota Highlander when the robbers came out of the bush and opened fire on their vehicle.

The Police spokesman added that the robbers shot at the petrol tank of the ill-fated vehicle while the driver was trying to escape with vehicle.

He stated that the vehicle burst into flame, burning the occupants, saying the driver sustained injuries and receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Ogodo, however, said the men of the command were on the trail of the bandits while investigation was ongoing.

He assured the travellers of adequate safety on the highways in the state.

The PPRO said, “On getting the information of the incident, our patrol team quickly went to the scene to rescue the surviving driver and deposit the corpses of the deceased in a mortuary.”

It was gathered that the deceased were travelling from Lagos to ‎Ugbe-Akoko in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State on the fateful day to meet with members of their family, who reside in the town.

Meanwhile, the Director of Social Communications of the Catholic Diocese of Ondo, Reverend Father Leo Aregbesola, when contacted on telephone, said he had yet to receive the information as of the press time

PoliticsWhy Buhari Has Not Moved To Aso Rock-aide by ishowdotgmail(op): 5:41am On Jun 01, 2015
The head of President Muhammadu Buhari’s media team, Garba Shehu, on Sunday said Buhari had yet to move to the Presidential Villa, Abuja because his official residence was not ready for habitation.

Shehu, in an exclusive interview with our correspondent said workers were currently cleaning and refurbishing the President’s official residence.

He said Buhari would not move in until that exercise was completed.

Shehu said, “As far as the President is concerned, the place (his official residence) is not ready yet.

“Workers are cleaning and refurbishing the place.

“Once the exercise is completed, the President will move in.”

When asked to be specific on how soon Buhari would move in, Shehu said he believed it would not take time.

Meanwhile, personnel of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, especially security operatives are currently at a crossroads on the direction their work will take this week.

The PUNCH’s investigation on Sunday revealed that their dilemma was based on the failure of President Buhari to relocate to the State House and his failure to appoint key aides, three days after his inauguration.

A Presidency official who spoke with our correspondent on the condition of anonymity said they were not yet sure of the President’s schedule and itinerary for the week.

This, he said, was because Buhari had yet to appoint a Chief of Staff whose responsibility it is to arrange the President’s day-to-day activities.

He said, “As we are talking now, we do not know his (the President’s) activities for tomorrow (today). We cannot plan for his activities. We do not know which groups he will be meeting or how many people he will be meeting.

“It is when we have an idea of those who he will be meeting that we can schedule them regarding allocation of time and venue.

“These would have been easier for us if a Chief of Staff is in place.”

A security source also said the situation was affecting the security department.

He said because they were not carried along, the inauguration gala night held inside the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa on Friday nearly flopped as people kept trooping in.

He however expressed the hope that by the time Buhari’s Chief Security Officer meets with them on Monday (today), there would be a clear direction on their activities.

“For now, we are waiting for the two big men (President and Vice President) to move into the Villa so that we can do our jobs. For now, we are only securing the seat of power without the men of power,” he declared.

PoliticsXenophobia: MTN Nigeria Warns Of 6,000 Job Losses by ishowdotgmail(op): 7:26am On Apr 21, 2015
MTN Nigeria on Monday warned that
should there be attacks on its facilities, it
might be forced to close shop and 99 per
cent of its over 6,000 workforce in the
country, who are Nigerians, would be
thrown into the labour market.
It also said that calls for the boycott of its
services were unjustified as such an action
would affect its support chain, which
could cause another 500,000 Nigerians to
lose their means of livelihood.
The company stated this in Lagos some
hours after two groups protested in its
Abuja and Benin offices against the killing
of foreigners in its home country, South
Africa.
According to the Corporate Service
Executive, MTN Nigeria, Mr. Wale
Goodluck, there are only 12 expatriates
working for the company in the country,
compared to a workforce of 6,000
Nigerians.
Goodluck said, “So, if people go ahead
with their threats to attack our facilities,
what that means is that we may be forced
to close down the business in Nigeria and
about 6,000 Nigerians that make up 99
per cent of our workforce will be
unemployed.
“Then, when you look at our support
chain, we have about 500,000 Nigerians
gainfully employed. So, boycotting our
services simply means destroying so many
other Nigerian businesses and making
over 500,000 other Nigerians to lose their
jobs.
“This business supports a lot of businesses
across the length and breadth of Nigeria.
Many of the businesses that are affiliated
to South Africa are in the retail space,
supporting the growth of Nigeria and
employing so many Nigerians.”
He noted that the company had spent in
excess of $15bn on capital expenditure
growing the telecommunications business
in Nigeria.
“We see no revenge of Xenophobia and
we commend the role the Nigerian High
Commissioner in South Africa has played;
at least there has been no fatality on the
part of any Nigerian,” Goodluck added.

CareerLetter To All Nigerians Parent Part1 by ishowdotgmail(op): 7:42pm On Apr 11, 2015
Friends,

Let me add the benefit of my time as a
student and then resident in the UK.
Living in Abuja now. The first thing that I
discovered about UK-born, white, English
undergraduates was that all of them did
holiday or weekend job to support
themselves – including the children of
millionaires amongst them. It is the norm
over there – regardless of how wealthy
their parents are. And I soon discovered
that virtually all other foreign students did
the same – except status – conscious
Nigerians.
I also watched Richard Branson (owner of
Virgin Airline) speaking on the Biography
Channel. To my amazement, he said that
his young children travel in the economy
class – even when the parents (he and his
wife) are in upper class. Richard Branson
is a billionaire in Pound sterling. A quick
survey would show you that only children
from Nigeria fly business or upper class to
commence their studies in the Uk. No
other foreign students do this. There is no
aircraft attached to the office of the Prime
Minister in the UK. He travels on BA. And
the same goes for the Royals. The Queen
does not have an aircraft for her
exclusive use.
These practices simply become the
culture which the next generation carries
forward. Have you seen the car that Kate
Middleton (the wife of Prince William)
drives? VW Golf or something close to it.
But there’s one core difference between
them and us (generally speaking), they
(even the billionaires among them) work
for their money, most of us steal ours
If we want our children to bring about the
desired change we have been praying for
on behalf of our dear country, then
please, please let’s begin now and teach
them to work hard so they can stand
alone and most importantly be content
and not having to “steal” which seems to
be the norm these days.
We have Nigerian Children who have
never worked for 5 minutes in their lives
insisting on flying “only” first or business
class and using the latest cars fully paid
for by their “loving “ parents.
I often get calls from anxious parents”my
son graduated 2 years ago and is still
looking for a job, can you please assist!”
“Oh really! So where exactly is “THIS
CHILD?” is my usual question. “Why are
you the one making this call dad/mum?
I am yet to get a satisfactory answer, but
between you and me, chances are that
the big boy is cruising around Abuja with a
babe dresses to the nines, in his dad’s
spanking new SUV with enough “pocket
money” to put your salary to shame. It is
not at all strange to hear a 28 year old
who has NEVER worked for a day in his or
her life in Nigeria but “earns” a six figure
“salary” from parents for doing absolutely
nothing
I see them in my office once in a while,
26 years old with absolutely no skill to
sell apart from a shiny CV, written by his
dad’s secretary in the office. Of course,
he has a driver at his beck and call and he
is driven to the job interview. We have a
fairly decent conversation and we get to
the inevitable question- so, what salary
are you looking to earn? Answer comes
straight out – N250,000.00. I ask if that is
per month or per annum.
“Of course, it is per month”
“Oh, why do you think you should be
earning that much on your first job?”
“Well, because my current pocket money
is N200,000.00 and I feel any employer
should be able to pay me more than my
parents.”
No wonder corruption continues to thrive.
We have a society of young people who
have been brought up to expect
something for nothing, as if it were a
birthright. Even though the examples I
have given above are from parents of
considerable affluence, similar patterns
can be observed from Abeokuta to
Adamawa.
Wake up mum! Wake up dad! This
syndrome – “my children will not suffer
what I suffered is destroying your
tomorrow. You are practically loving your
child to death.
I learnt the children of a former Nigeria
Head of State with all the stolen(billions)
monies in their custody, still go about
with security escort as wrecks. They are
on drugs, several time because of the
drug, they collapse in public places. The
escort will quickly pack them and off they
go. What a life! No one wants to marry
them.
Henry Ford said “hard work does not kill.”
We are getting everything wrong in
Nigeria now, including family setting. It is
time to prepare your children for
tomorrow, the way the world is going,
only those that are rugged,hardworking
and smart working that will survive. How
will your ward fare?

Please forward this to all parents you
know
