Family › Pastor Got A 12-yr-old Pregnant, What Does The Church Do?'' by Islie(op): 9:05am On Jul 03, 2015 |
''My pastor got a 12-yr-old pregnant, what does the church do? Hi Joan, I'm Abiola and I live in Lagos. Please I really want you to tell me what to do with my pastor who was forced to confessed he's been sleeping with a 12 year old girl in the church. Two things are wrong: He's married with two daughters ranging 11 --16 and the little girl is now pregnant. Should I stop going to his church? Should I take it to the police? What should I do?
Dear Abiola,
It's really a sad sad thing but then again strange things keep happening in our time. However, sleeping with a minor (0-17 years old) is a crime by law (perhaps not for muslims) and situations like these should be delt with legally. I suggest the police should know about this. But not to be sarcastic, how come the parents of that little girl didn't notice the changes in their daughter? Why wait until she gets pregnant before heading to the police? As for whether you should continue attending the church, it's your decision to make solely. I can't tell you what to do. http://pulse.ng/hotpulse/joan-on-sex-my-pastor-got-a-12-yr-old-pregnant-what-does-the-church-do-id3932722.html |

Politics › Again Two Suicide Bombers Blow Selves Up In Borno by Islie(op): 1:54pm On Jul 01, 2015 |

The suicide bombers were suspected to be terrorists who sneaked into the city from Sambisa Forest, a fortified camps of boko haram sect. Health › Wempco’s Machine Smashes Worker’s Head During Production(Picture) by Islie(op): 7:37am On Jul 01, 2015 |
Samuel Ogunkoya, a 26-year-old worker of Wempco Steel Mill Company, Magboro, Ogun State, has been killed after one of the pipes affixed to the company’s ‘actrus pumping machine’ fell and smashed his head.
It was learnt that the vehicle, which housed the machine, had developed a mechanical fault about a month before the incident. Some workers were said to have reported the fault, but the management allegedly told them to “manage it like that.”
PUNCH Metro gathered that the vehicle was eventually taken to a mechanic’s shop on Friday for repair and was returned to the company on Monday by the mechanic.
The machine was being used to mold concrete bricks when one of the steel pipes of the machine fell and landed on Ogunkoya’s head.
Our correspondent was told that the deceased, who hailed from the Ijebu-Igbo area of the state, wanted to pick the charger for the remote control of the vehicle when the pipe smashed his head. He was said to have been rushed to a hospital in the community, where he was referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja. He was reportedly confirmed ‘Dead on Arrival.’
Some of the deceased’s colleagues, who spoke with PUNCH Metro on condition of anonymity for fear of losing their jobs, blamed the company for Ogunkoya’s death.
They said three other workers, identified only as Jimoh, Samuel and Ibrahim, had died earlier in the year as a result of the management’s indifference to workers’ welfare.
One of them, who witnessed the incident, said the “hydraulic system” of the vehicle was long overdue for a replacement.
He said, “For almost a month now, the vehicle was releasing hydraulic oil. One of us complained to the management, but they said there was no time; they said we should manage it like that. We complained that the vehicle was not working well, but they said, ‘go and manage it or leave the job.’
“It was taken to a mechanic last Friday and was brought back on Monday. It was not tested before the production commenced. The machine has five pipes used for molding concrete. A worker and the mechanic were operating the vehicle. Four pipes had come. The fifth one was coming out when it suddenly fell and smashed his head as he bent down to pick the charger. ”
Another worker lamented the working conditions in the company.
“I have been working in this company for over five years. There is no welfare for the workers. Ogunkoya is the fourth worker we have lost to the company’s negligence this year after Jimoh, Samuel and Ibrahim. It was a forklift machine that smashed Jimoh’s body. He was passing by; unknown to him, a machine was being operated from the inside. The forklift pinned him to the floor. He died on the way to the hospital.
“There should be a hospital inside the company, where casualties can be rushed to, but the management are only interested in using us to make money,” he said.
A father of two, who also works for Wempco, said they were not only poorly paid, but were also subjected to dehumanising conditions. He said Ibrahim was electrocuted.
He said, “After we finished production sometime in March, Ibrahim was bathing on an iron sheet laid across the drain when a wire that passed through the place electrocuted him. He died on the spot. There is no bathroom for us in the company; no toilet. We excrete inside the bush. This is my seventh year in the company, yet I am still a casual worker. They pay us N15,000 every two weeks. If we have issues with our bosses, they may deduct N2,000 0r N5,000 from our wages. We resume work at 7am and close at 7pm.”
Another employee said they kept mum on the wages to avoid being sacked. “If they know we spoke with PUNCH, we are gone,” he added.
One of the mangers of the company, Mr. Abdulganiyu Abdulazeez, said the incident was blown out of proportion, adding that some workers were not safety-conscious.
He said, “There is no much response that I can give now. When anything happens, people exaggerate the information. That is what they (workers) are trying to do. As a citizen, I am there to protect the interest of Nigerian.
“When we see, I will tell you the true picture of things. In every organisation, accidents are bound to happen. Some of these workers don’t use their safety devices.” http://www.punchng.com/metro-plus/wempcos-machine-smashes-workers-head-during-production/Picture of the dead worker and the machine insert cc lalasticlala

Politics › Aregbesola Commences Salary Payment, Cuts Pay Of Political Office Holders by Islie(op): 6:09pm On Jun 30, 2015 |
Osun state government led by Governor Rauf Aregbesola has begun paying the salary arrears owed civil servant in the state. In a statement issued by the Governor’s Office and signed by Semiu Okanlawon, Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy, the government said it is paying the balance of November and full December salary arrears owed. “We must assure our people that serious efforts are on to ensure the remaining months are also cleared,” the statement said. Also, the government has announced a 50 per cent cut in salaries and allowances of all political office holders in the state. The statement further read that the government, while saddened and troubled by the turn of events in the financial status of the state and the country at large, is taking responsibility for the unfortunate problem and is prepared to meet the challenge head-on. “Since the inception of this government, we have treated the resources under our control with the utmost respect and disbursed them diligently for the greater benefits of our people. Our mandate had always been to use our God-given wealth to bridge the gap between the downtrodden and the government. “It is very unfortunate that we find ourselves unable to pay our workers their due wages for several months when, in the past, we stood for paying on or before the 25th of each month. We thank the ever gracious and understanding workers of our state for their patience as we go through this most trying time.
“However, we are glad to announce that we have commenced the process of paying for the balance of November and full December salary arrears for all our workers across the state and the process should be concluded by Friday, July 3rd, 2015. We are able to do this because our partners and creditors have faith in us and we have proven to be responsible and trustworthy. “We must emphasize at this point: We are not out of the woods yet! Our finances took a dive because we were hit by the shock of the sudden and massive drop in global oil prices while Nigeria also had a Federal Government that failed in its primary responsibility to secure our people and our commonwealth. Thanks to the Nigerian people, that evil leadership has been removed and replaced with a progressive one. That does not translate to instant cure for our near-empty pockets. We must take drastic steps to correct many of our past errors and embrace the true realities of today. “Therefore, we hereby announce a 50 per cent cut to the salaries and allowances of all political office holders and appointees. This is one of the many steps we are taking to ensure the sustenance of our collective. We are also calling on our people to join us and do their part in carrying the weight of change. “Austerity stares us right in the face. We must embrace it. We are going to intensify our efforts at prudence and frugality. We will practice self-denial in every way possible. “As we proceed on this journey of self-discovery, we hope to put more and more of our people to work by attracting productive investments to our state. The better part of our resources will go to funding capital projects that will create employment and unlock wealth. The State of Osun will rise from this situation and prosper like never before.” http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/06/30/aregbesola-commences-salary-payment-cuts-pay-of-political-office-holders/Cc lalasticlala |

Education › Accident: OOU Students Go On The Rampage (pictures) by Islie(op): 8:05am On Jun 30, 2015 |
•13 trucks destroyedHundreds of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) students yesterday besieged a plastic factory on the Lagos – Ore Expressway, damaging products and 13 trucks. The angry students vandalised the reception area, threatening a repeat assault next week, if the government did not bring to book the truck driver, who reportedly caused the accident in which 12 of their colleagues died last Friday. The factory, said to belong to some Indians, owns the truck carrying a 20 – feet container, which fell atop a passenger bus conveying the students. For the better part of yesterday, vehicular movement came to a halt on both sides of the dual carriage way. Travellers turned back. There was gridlock as motorists struggled to make a detour. The students, wearing black T-shirts and jeans, arrived in four buses, including two luxury buses. They were in tears as they converged to pray on the accident scene. For over an hour, they sang dirges for the victims and prayed for the repose of their souls. A pastor, Tobi Adesanya, from the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) prayed for the Christians. Oresanya Adewale, a 300 Level Business Administration (Education) student, prayed for the Muslims. The prayers soon morphed into yelling and cursing of the driver and his company. Policemen, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and operatives of the Ogun State Traffic Agency (TRACE) tried to calm down the students but they refused to be consoled. For over three hours, the students seized both lanes of the expressway on the Ikenne – Ilisan stretch and later marched on the factory. Armed policemen stationed at the gate laboured to prevent the students from advancing but following pressure from the students, the steel gate gave way. The placard-carrying students surged into the factory in their hundreds and vandalised products and over a dozen trucks parked within the premises. Some of the placards read: “We demand justice for the lost souls”; “OOU mourns, OOU weeps, OOU cries”; “A future lawyer is gone”; “Fresh graduate gone” ; “We’ve lost our scientists”; “OOUITES are not chickens. Stop giving us phobia”; “Police, FRSC, TRACE must be probed. The Student Union President, Adegbesan Adenola, told reporters that the students were demanding N10million for each of the dead students. Adenola said the money should be paid to the each of the victims’ families within seven days . The students demanded that the policemen, FRSC and TRACE operatives, who were on duty last Friday, be prosecuted for negligence and dereliction of duty. The angry students were, however, placated by some of the lecturers, including the OOU branch chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr Deji Agboola. http://thenationonlineng.net/new/oou-students-vandalise-factory/cc lalasticlala
