Family › My Wife Sleeps With My Brother - Husband Tells Judge by Islie(op): 4:03am On Jul 17, 2015 |
A middle-aged timber contractor, Ojo Owoeye, who is a defendant in a divorce suit filed by his wife, Mrs. Bola Owoeye, at the Akoko Customary Court in Ondo State, says he caught his wife having sex with his brother.
Bola had approached the court to dissolve her 16-year-old marriage with Ojo for lack of care for her and her three children.
However, Ojo, who agreed to the dissolution, said he intentionally abandoned his wife because she was fond of sleeping around with different men, including his younger brother.
The defendant said he reported his wife and his younger brother to his mother-in-law, but the latter pacified him. He added that his younger brother also denied having extra marital affair with Bola.
“My lord, there was a time that I came home from a journey at about 9pm and met my wife naked with only her wrapper around her chest, sitting on my younger brother’s lap,” Ojo said
He also told the court that at a point he had to destroy his wife’s mobile phone when he discovered she often received calls from other men.
The President of the Court, Chief Maku Awe, ruled that the two were free to go their separate ways and remarry, granting the custody of the first and last children, who were 16 and four years old, to the mother. The second child, a nine-year-old female, was given to the father.
The court also ordered that Ojo should be paying the sums of N3,000 and N2,000 as monthly feeding allowances of the children in the custody of his ex-wife. http://www.punchng.com/metro-plus/my-wife-sleeps-with-my-brother-man/ |

Crime › Landlords Storm Police Command, Report Suspected Homosexual Rapist by Islie(op): 7:37am On Jul 16, 2015 |
No fewer than 25 landlords from the Temidire, Alagbado area of Lagos State stormed the premises of the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, on Wednesday to report a suspected homosexual in the area.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the complainants, who were led by the Baale, Alhaji Najimu Abioye, submitted a petition to the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, saying that the residents’ lives were in danger as the suspect continually harassed them with thugs.
They alleged that the suspect, identified as Alhaji Tunji, had raped many young men in the area, and usually moved with thugs to collect money from traders and the people building houses in the community.
Speaking with PUNCH Metro, the Baale said the matter had been reported to the police at the Alagbado division, adding that Tunji continued to “buy his way out, and terrorise us with hoodlums.”
He said the recent activity of the Alhaji was to take possession of people’s lands, boasting that he could not be arrested.
He said, “Tunji is a gay. He has raped several boys in our area. The father of one of the victims is here with us.
“We have reported him to the police at Alagbado, but he went to Area G, Ogba, and lied that we brought hoodlums to his house and burgled it. At that time, he left the area, but resurfaced later to start another round of trouble.
“Now, he is taking over people’s plots of land and selling them. He has thugs who work for him to unleash mayhem. That is why we have run to the police to help us tame him. He is also a gay. The father of one of the victims is here.”
The father of the victim, who did not want his name in print, called his son, Olufemi (pseudonym), on the phone and asked PUNCH Metro to speak with him.
The son, who worked as a plumber, told our correspondent on the phone that he had gone to work on Tunji’s property, when the suspect lured him to a room, and asked him to UnCloth.
He added that he ran out when Tunji attempted to sleep with him.
He said, “About two weeks ago, one of my friends called me that there was work to do at the Alhaji’s house. When I got there, he began to ask me questions.
“On the evening of the third day, I was with him in his living room and he asked me to enter his bedroom, He then asked me to start undressing. Eventually, I ran out of the house.”
Our correspondent gathered that the police had invited the suspect for interrogation.
Speaking with PUNCH Metro on the telephone, Tunji said there was nothing true in the allegations levelled against him.
He added that the Baale had a habit of extorting money from the landlords to realise his selfish ends.
He said, “There is no truth in what they are saying. Who is running after those aged landlords?
“The fact is that the Baale is not even entitled to that position, but he has formed a caucus, and extorted from the landlords.
“He lied to them that he will fight their cause.
“Did you see any land agent that does not have co-workers? I don’t have thugs. I have co-workers. When I visit the landed property under my supervision and some people try to fight us, there is no evil in fighting them back.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, said he would get back to our correspondent on the matter. http://www.punchng.com/news/landlords-storm-police-command-report-suspected-homosexual-rapist/lalasticlala

Politics › Impeachment Call: Aregbesola Replies Osun Judge’s Allegations by Islie(op): 7:05pm On Jul 15, 2015 |
Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, has responded to the petition written against him by a serving judge in the State Judiciary, Justice Folahanmi Oloyede.
The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Najeem Salaam, said this in a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Goke Butika.
Oloyede, in a petition to the House of Assembly, accused Aregbesola of financial recklessness and asked the lawmakers to impeach the governor.
The Speaker, who said earlier that the Assembly had forwarded the petition to the governor for his response, said the lawmakers could not do anything until they received the governor’s response.
Following the receipt of Aregbesola’s defence, the Speaker asked the judge to prepare to appear before an investigative committee he had set up on the matter.
The Speaker said the Assembly was now ready to investigate the allegations, while assuring the people of the state that their investigation would be a thorough one.
The statement read in parts, “State of Osun House of Assembly has expressed its readiness to address the petition sent to it by a judge of the State High Court, Justice Olamide Folahanmi Oloyede, having obtained the response of Governor Rauf Aregbesola on the matter.
“The detailed response of the state helmsman was obtained on Tuesday, compelling the parliament to set machinery in motion on the investigation of allegation of financial hiccups and her position for the preparation of impeachment article against the governor among other issues.
“The parliament would be fair and thorough in investigating all the issues raised with a view to reaching a logical end that would give all parties concerned sense of justice without fear or favour.
“I have constituted an investigative committee that will look into the petition forwarded by Justice Oloyede, and I have given the committee mandate to interact with Justice Oloyede in person.
“Justice Oloyede is in the best position to further shed light on her position as expressed. However, I assure all the parties concerned that the matter would be treated with fairness and sense of justice without fear or favour.”
Meanwhile, the Coalition of Groups for Good Governance has berated the judge for asking the Assembly to impeach Aregbesola.
The Chairman of CGGG, Waheed Adediran, said this in a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo.
He said, “It is unambiguous that the petition forwarded to the State of Osun House of Assembly by Justice Folahanmi Oloyede is not known to law and not capable of initiating any form of impeachment process what so ever.
“In pursuant to section 188 (1) (2) and section 1 (1) of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, the petition in question is a mere letter that does not deserve any attention.”
The group also said the governor was not guilty of financial recklessness leveled against him by the judge.
Adediran explained that the 50 per cent crash in the price of crude oil and crude oil theft during the regime of former President Goodluck Jonathan was responsible for the sharp reduction in revenue allocation to the state.
He said Aregbesola worked hard to raise the state’s internally generated revenue from N300,000,000 per month to over N1.6 billion per month, adding that the governor had done so much to develop the state.
Adediran added that Osun State, which was second to the last on the allocation ladder, ironically, had the second largest workforce in the country.
The group urged public servants and other stakeholders in the state to support Aregbesola’s administration in its efforts to transform the state into an economically viable one. http://www.punchng.com/news/impeachment-call-aregbesola-replies-osun-judges-allegations/cc lalasticlala |
Health › More Young Nigerians Have Hypertension– Doctors Gives Reasons by Islie(op): 4:42pm On Jul 15, 2015 |
The increasing cases of hypertension among young Nigerians are a source of concern to health professionals, BUKOLA ADEBAYO writes
Hypertension, which is also known as high blood pressure, is a silent killer. The disease, which often has no symptom, has killed many people prematurely.
While the condition used to be associated with elderly people in their 50s and 60s, experts nowadays have raised the alarm that they are seeing more Nigerians in their 20s and 30s with this condition. For instance, they note that more teenagers come down with high blood pressure these days.
A heart specialist, Dr. Jude Duru-Onweni, identifies poor diet and increased intake of junk and processed foods, especially among young people, as one of the factors increasing the population of young persons with hypertension in the country.
According to him, many of the western diets that young and upwardly mobile Nigerians prefer are laden with high concentration of salt, a major substance that increases the risk for hypertension.
Duru-Onweni notes that a major way in which salt creeps into the body system is through food.
He says, “Studies have found that most Africans who have hypertension will always have sodium retention. Sodium is what many of us know as salt. There is a proof that the black DNA system cannot manage salt, as it predisposes us to high blood pressure, also known as hypertension.
“The number of young Nigerians we see with high blood pressure during screening is alarming and it is because of the western diets. Young people eat more junk. They have adopted the western diet that has high concentrations of salt and they forget that Caucasians and other race can tolerate salt better than we can.
“Salt is not just the physical salt we see. All packaged foods are preserved with a high concentration of salt. Soft drinks are also preserved with salt. In reality, all those ‘slow’ (indicating how fast foods slow down metabolism) foods which people call fast foods slowly lead to death because they are laden with salt.
“We are so scared about the coming generation because they eat a lot of fast foods. We now find hypertension in infants,” Duru-Onweni adds.
For the Executive Director, Nigerian Heart Foundation, Dr. Kingsley Akinroye, uncontrolled and undetected hypertension is increasing the incidence of heart diseases in young people.
According to Akinroye, people can develop hypertension if they have the risk factors for high blood pressure.
He says, “The number one challenge we have in Nigeria and Africa is heart disease. The major cause of heart disease is hypertension or high blood pressure. It is a killer because once you cross the age of five, you are susceptible to it if you have poor dietary habit.”
The cardiologist notes that apart from the high salt content in food, local studies have also shown that the concentration of salt in many sources of water in the country is high.
“The salt content in many of the table water we drink in Nigeria is high. That is why we advise Nigerians to look out for NAFDAC and NHFcertified water to ensure that they are not directly exposing themselves to high level of sodium when they drink water.”
Corroborating this view, the Executive Director, Fight The Good Fight Against Hypertension, Mr. Emmanuel Ekunno, says the prevalence of hypertension among Nigerians has increased.
He identifies poor awareness about the dangers of the disease and poor health-seeking attitude of many Nigerians as being responsible for the increasing prevalence of hypertension in the country.
He declares, “Studies have shown that one-third of the Nigerian population is suffering from hypertension. The sad thing is that one third of the hypertensive group does not even know. When we screen 100 people, 39 per cent of them have hypertension. Curiously, they are young people.
“In our clinic at times, we see that six out of 10 persons screened have high blood pressure. It is alarming both in cities and rural areas,”
Experts warn that ignorance is not an excuse, as undetected hypertension can lead to stroke, kidney failure, and sudden death. In this regard, Duru-Onweni describes individuals who do not know or manage high blood pressure as walking corpses. In his thinking, these people can drop dead at any time.
He notes also that as deadly as the disease is, with drugs and a change in diet and lifestyle, there is hope in the horizon for its management.
“Hypertension has no cure; it can only be managed. That is why you should screen to know if you have high blood pressure. If you do, take your medication regularly because hypertension does not sleep.
“Manage your salt intake, exercise regularly and control your alcohol intake,” Duru-Onweni counselled. http://www.punchng.com/health/more-young-nigerians-have-hypertension-doctors/cc lalasticlala

Owolabi, 37, told the court that his wife packed out of her matrimonial home in 2012 due to a misunderstanding between them.A plumber, Olusola Owolabi, on Tuesday urged an Ikole Customary Court in Ekiti State to dissolve his 15 years marriage to Taiwo for allegedly carrying a pregnancy for her pastor.
Owolabi, 37, told the court that his wife packed out of her matrimonial home in 2012 due to a misunderstanding between them.
“The pregnancy she is carrying is for her pastor and it will be difficult allowing her to remain as my wife,” the petitioner said
He said his marriage to Taiwo had produced two children who were presently with their mother but prayed the court to grant him their custody.
Owolabi assured the court that he would take good care of the children, aged 10 and seven, if his request was granted.
Taiwo, who did not deny the allegations, raised no objection to the dissolution of the marriage.
The court President, Yemisi Ojo, directed the couple to bring their witnesses to court at the next sitting and adjourned the case till July 21 for continuation of hearing.

Crime › Motorcyclist Stabs Security Man To Death At Checkpoint (photo) by Islie(op): 9:39am On Jul 14, 2015 |
A motorcycle rider, Shehu Sanni, has allegedly stabbed a security man, Ibukun Oguntona, to death in the Okobaba, Oyingbo area of Lagos.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Sanni, who has been arrested by the police, allegedly killed the security man when he (Sanni) was stopped at a checkpoint, and queried over his movement.
Our correspondent learnt that on Wednesday, July 8, at about 10pm, 38-year-old Oguntona was on a night duty on Abeokuta and Lagos streets, Oyingbo, when the suspect got to the area.
It was gathered that Sanni’s motorcycle was faulty, and he was pushing it when the security man accosted him.
Our correspondent learnt that Oguntona, who reportedly had an instruction not to allow motorcycle riders into the area at that time, demanded to know Sanni’s mission on the street.
It was gathered that the suspect allegedly refused to answer Oguntona, which made the security man to hold on to his motocycle. The suspect was said to have drawn a knife and stabbed Oguntona in the stomach.
The deceased reportedly raised the alarm, which alerted his colleague on Tapa Street. He rushed to the scene and called residents to take Oguntona to a hospital. The security man reportedly died on the way.
A police source said Sanni initially fled the scene with his motorcycle and the blood-stained knife.
He added that the neighbours, however, fished Sanni out and reported the matter at the Denton Police Division.
He said, “There were two security men in the area. Oguntona was on Abeokuta Street while his colleague was on Tapa Street.
“The security man noticed Sanni coming with his motorcycle into the area, and he stopped him to demand an explanation. Instead of answering, the suspect drew a knife and stabbed the deceased. A patrol van from the Okobaba Police Post took Oguntona to the Lagos Island General Hospital, but he died on the way.
“Sanni ran away, but his neighbours, who learnt of what happened, brought him to the police at Denton.”
A resident in the area, who identified himself simply as Sodiq, said some slums in the area were being used as hideouts by hoodlums to hide weapons.
“It is not only knives that these touts carry about. They have guns. When there is a little argument, they shoot and escape into their slums. That was also where Sanni escaped to before he was arrested.”
It was gathered that Oguntona, an indigene of Abeokuta, Ogun State, had a young wife and a boy, identified as Monday.
The deceased’s younger brother declined to speak with PUNCH Metro on the incident, saying he did not have the family’s permission to do so.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident, adding that the matter had been transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation.
He said, “The suspect is in custody, while the corpse has been deposited at the morgue of the Military Hospital, Yaba. The matter has been transferred to the SDCI for further investigation.” http://www.punchng.com/metro-plus/motorcyclist-stabs-security-man-to-death-at-checkpoint/Pic: the stab security man cc lalasticlala
