PoliticsArewa Chiefs In Agege, Lagos Back Buhari For Presidency by itetemi(op): 9:14am On Mar 02, 2015
The Council of Arewa Chiefs in Agege area of Lagos has denied endorsing President Goodluck Jonathan and other Peoples Democratic Party candidates for the general elections.

Arising from the council’s meeting held at the palace of Seriki Hausawa of Agege, on Saturday, in Lagos, the chiefs led by Alhaji Sani Shuaibu, the Sardauna of Agege, said in a statement that they have unanimously expressed their unalloyed support to the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

The statement read, “Alhaji Sani Kabiru, the acclaimed Seriki Hausa in Lagos, had last week announced the endorsement of President (Goodluck) Jonathan at the State House, Marina, after a meeting he had with the President.

“However, we want to tell the whole world that we are not part of the said endorsement. We rejected the endorsement. We remain committed to the victory of APC’s presidential candidate, Maj.-Gen Mohammadu Buhari (retd.) and APC candidates in Lagos State,” he said

“The Hausa community in Lagos, especially in Agege, has enjoyed tremendous support from the government of Lagos State since the past 16 years and would like such a relationship to continue.

“Since the past 16 years, we have lived peacefully and witnessed tremendous support from the government of the state. We want to leverage on this and all of us are working towards achieving continuous peace in the state.

PoliticsFuel Queues Confirm Jonathan’s Deceit -APC Campaign by itetemi(op): 10:44pm On Mar 01, 2015
The Presidential Campaign of the All Progressives Congress on Sunday said the return of fuel queues at filling stations in Abuja and other parts of Nigeria is a confirmation that the policies of the Jonathan administration are founded on deceit and insincerity.

According to the APC campaign, it was now evident that the recent fuel price reductions announced by the Federal Government was borne out of political expediency, rather than compassion, because the ruling party is desperate to cling to power at all costs.

The APC campaign also condemned the gross reduction in the hours of electricity supply across the country by electricity providers describing it as sad reminders of the failure of the PDP Federal Government.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Director of Media and Publicity of the APC campaign, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja.

The APC wondered how a political party which has been in power for 16 years and which is unable to ensure regular fuel supply being an oil producing country and having privatised the power sector and given generous financial assistance to operators of the sector, can still feel confident to seek another term in office.

Shehu said that the glaring and inexcusable failure of the PDP government in these two important areas is a sign of gross ineptitude, maladministration and corruption which is responsible for the sorry economic state the average citizen of Nigeria has found themselves.

According to him, for the people of Nigeria to be again confronted with the specter of fuel scarcity so soon after the harrowing experience of last Christmas period shows that the Jonathan government can never get anything right as Nigeria will continue to be an embarrassment among the oil producing countries of the world.

The statement partly read: “The issue is that being unable to set up even one new refinery in the past five years and unable to get existing refineries to function up to 50 per cent capacity, the people of Nigeria surely need another set of people to be in charge of affairs.

“Those who man the two critical sectors of fuel and power are cronies of President Jonathan and supporters of the PDP that they have no reason to discharge their mandate in favour of the Nigerian people.

“We all remember the hype and fanfare with which the privatisation of the power sector was carried out and yet majority of Nigerians are having less electric power or none at all but are forced to pay outrageous electricity bills to the operators of the power companies who are either card-carrying members of the PDP or are close associates of President Jonathan.”

It further said to add insult to injury; the Jonathan government has also given billions of Naira to these operators under the guise of assisting them to improve power supply, without result. And this happened after the sector had been sold and the facilities handed over to these private operators.

The APC demanded that the Jonathan government and his party should explain to Nigerians the reason why fuel scarcity and blackout should persist, making life a hell for Nigerians, despite huge investments and policies put in place to eradicate these problems.

Reacting to the allegations, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Alhaji Abdullahi Jalo, said contrary to what the opposition party would want Nigerians to believe, the Jonathan-led PDP administration has achieved a lot in the areas in question.

He said, “If we are sincere with ourselves and we want to be fair to the Jonathan-led PDP administration, you will agree with me that he has done a lot in spite of various acts of sabotage and insurgency.

“You know that our electricity infrastructure has been down for so long and that more and more Nigerians are joining the national grid, there is bound to be challenges but they are being dealt with.

“On the issue of petroleum, the falling price of crude oil is not a problem for Nigeria only. Many oil producing countries are also facing it but Mr. President and his ministers are tackling the issue. The opposition will never see anything good in what government is doing.”

PoliticsFG To Drag Buhari To ICC Over 2011 Election Violence by itetemi(op): 7:17pm On Mar 01, 2015
ABUJA- PEOPLES Democratic Party, PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, PDPPCO alleged Sunday that the All Progressives Congress, APC spent N5 billion for the appearance of its Presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, rtd at the Chatham House in London last Thursday, just as it described it as a jamboree and monumental failure and that the Federal Government has concluded arrangements and may soon drag General Buhari before the International Criminal Court.

Addressing Journalists in Abuja Sunday, Director, Media and Publicity of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani- Kayode disclosed that the Federal Government has concluded arrangements and may soon drag General Buhari before the International Criminal Court, ICC over the 2011 Electoral violence in the country to face alleged charges of human rights abuses and criminality, just as he urged Buhari to get prepared for the trial after the elections.

According to him, the government would first demystify Buhari by defeating him at the polls before dragging him to the ICC against the backdrop that it will be risky to arrest him now over the 2011 violence as it would raise dust, adding, “And after its and General Buhari’s rejection at the poll, General Buhari may have to prepare to face charges of human rights abuses and criminality filed against him before the International Criminal Court on account of the 2011 electoral violence in Nigeria.

“According to the African Herald Express report on the issue published on February 20, 2015, Dutch lawyers– Prakken d’Oliveira, a Human Rights Law Firm based in Amsterdam, said it had filed a criminal complaint against General Muhammadu Buhari at the ICC. Prakken d’ Oliveira, led by Prof. Sluiter, Lawyer and Partner, is said to be acting on behalf of the Nigerian Northern Coalition for Democracy and Justice and two individual victims.

“Indeed, international focus is on General Buhari for the 2011 post-election violence and we hope that he is brought to justice for the blood that was shed by his supporters in the violence of 2011; and, we hope he will not precipitate another round of violence in 2015 when he loses.”

PDP noted that the Chatham House event was an arrangee designed by the APC like the purported London interview to hoodwink Nigerians and prevent the APC Presidential candidate from debating in Nigeria, just as it insisted that General Buhari must debate in Nigeria, adding that he was not originally scheduled to appear at the Chatham as it was a last minute arrangement, aimed at diverting the attention of Nigerians and the world from the fact that the trip to London was mainly to seek medical attention and care.

PoliticsFuel Sells For N110 In Ondo As Scarcity Bites Harder by itetemi(op): 8:50pm On Feb 28, 2015
James Sowole in Akure

As fuel scarcity, which started on Wednesday in some parts of Ondo State and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, bites harder, a litre of petrol is now selling for between N100 and N110.

Investigation by THISDAY in some filling stations revealed that only a few major marketers are selling at the recommended price of N87 per litre.

The situation led to long queues of vehicles at stations where the product is available.

However, the few independent marketers that are selling the fuel sell at N110 apart from the additional N100 that attendants collect from anybody that buys above 10 litres.

In a telephone interview, the Chairman of the Independent Marketers Branch (IMB) of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Ore, Mr Olakunle Ajulo said the scarcity was due failure of Federal Government to pay subsidy claim to fuel importers

Amaechi once said that, if the Election is postponed, Nigerians will be on the street. Did it happen? No!

APC has everything to lose in this election and they will never get the Presidency nomatter how they call the President names!
jokie jokie, people were already on the street in kaduna and parts of lagos after the postponement, they only asked them to cool down a little and see how far the clueless one wanted to take his madness, so no basis to compare.

if he tries it, there will be no election in the north.so advise him to go and be president of otuoke.

Franchise21:
Speculations that President Goodluck Jonathan intends to fire the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Attahiru Jega, before the general elections, intensified Friday after the Federal Government refused to give a clear commitment on the matter.
Responding to concerns that the electoral chief would soon be mandated to proceed on a terminal leave, the Minister of Information‎, Edem Duke, gave an uncertain response, saying Mr. Jega’s exit will follow a “natural course”.
Although he re-echoed President Goodluck Jonathan’s comments last two weeks that he had not informed anyone of any plans to sack the INEC boos, Mr. Duke said that did not imply that when it is time for Mr. Jega “to naturally exit his office, then the natural course of things will not take place”.
“I think all of that is in the terrain of the Presidency and he has spoken. I have nothing to add to that,” he added.
On Thursday, members of the Nigerian Senate belonging to the All Progressives Congress, APC, had accused Mr. Jonathan of plotting to ask Mr. Jega to proceed on pre-retirement leave next week.

They promised to resist the alleged plot.

Mr. Duke criticised the APC for fuelling speculations about Mr. Jega’s removal.
“I will also like to say once on that issue. I recall that for several weeks now, people keep threatening the President on the shift in the date of the poll. You begin to wonder that parties have a couple of extra weeks in order to reinvigorate their campaigns and try to reach as many voters as possible,” he said.
“Rather than do that, you begin to identify imaginary pockets of unlikely developments and then focus your attention on them and then when you lose election, you begin to complain.”

Northern elders reject move to sack Jega

Meanwhile, the Northern Elders Forum has warned the presidency to jettison any plot to remove Mr. Jega head of the general elections, saying such move will be a ”recipe for disaster”.
The spokesperson for the group, Ango Abdullahi, said “any attempt at this last minute by this government or its agency to remove Jega is a clear message that this government is determined to rig an election in which they see Jega as an impediment simply because he thinks that the commission must follow the rules for a free and fair and credible election”.
Sacking “Jega at this material time will be a recipe for disaster”, Mr. Abdullahi warned at a press conference Friday.
He said the excuse given for postponement of the general elections, earlier scheduled for February 14 and 28, to March 28 and April 11, was “flimsy, clumsy and indefensible”.
Speaking against background of security concern cited for the poll shift, he said, “the NEF viewed it as unacceptable because only a small fraction of the security personnel in the country are directly engaged in the battle against insurgency within the north east enclave of the country.
“We also know that even in countries such as Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Pakistan , Sri Lanka and more recently Afghanistan where full scale wars were still raging when they decided that election could still be held and indeed were held.”
Stating further, he accused the “the ruling elite” of plot to scuttle the elections and ‎ultimately Nigeria’s democracy.
