I agree. In retrospect, my constant barrage of Rivers State's gang culture mostly fueled the (exaggerated ?) notion of Rivers being a seeming warzone on this thread over the course of the last 9 months. That I take responsibility for.

But that safety/security comparison has always been in relation to what is obtainable in Akwa Ibom so maybe I am a tad biased.

It goes without saying that Port Harcourt is multiple times safer than many parts of the country, including Abuja, Benin, Warri, Kaduna, Lokoja, e.t.c. I'd take Port Harcourt over any of the aforelisted for this singular reason. I've stated safety/security is a relative term, even in the past.

Still, when it comes to the issue of gang culture - this being the onerous premise for my seeming castigation of Rivers State at intervals as anyone viewing this can attest to, it still holds true, relative to many other parts of the country or as a singular examination.

Fair enough.

What I have always resisted is the notion that Rivers State is not safe. More than 99% of people do not go out thinking they won't return safely to their houses or go to bed with thoughts they may be attacked while sleeping.

It is not Switzerland level of crime rate but it's very far from the Kadunas, Plateau and Benues of this world.

Absolutely. That's why I even said asking people not to pay ransom is easier said than done. God forbid my wife was kidnapped, I will sell everything I have to pay them.

The solution is for the security agencies to up the ante and also for the government to make the country prosperous so that less people will find crime like kidnapping enticing .

Kidnapping is a crime that involves a whole lot of risk which people would not ordinarily not want to take .if the economic situation gets better , I believe less people would want to be be bandits/kidnappers

Security agents too need to do better . If person insult government officials our security agents will know how to track such person down , but kidnappers would be making calls with Nigerian SIM cards to their victim’s family and somehow they can’t track them down. 🤦‍♂️

El Rufai claims they(security agents) know where the kidnappers are. They even listen to their conversation

He said the security agents are always reluctant to attack them because they will use the hostages as human shield and its almost impossible to kill them without killing the people you aim to rescue.

He was of the opinion that they should be bombed alongside the victims so we get rid of them once and for all but there's only so much he can do.

You know anything that happens in Rivers is always blown out of proportion. Rivers is a lot safer than most states. This includes Abuja where I hear they now enter houses to kidnap people.

People are donating money for the kidnappers on twitter.

Sometimes I wonder if the solution to kidnapping is to allow this kidnappers do their worst. When they end up killing the remaining family members, what other leverage do they have?

Maybe the reason the "business" keeps booming is because people keep paying them ransom. I know it's easier said that done because I will also pay if anyone close to me gets kidnapped.

I know Disasi is hated on this board but there's something I've noticed about him. He has this ability to thread passes through the middle of the pitch and catching the opponent off guard. He said Dangote can keep it for as long as possible and that he was just paying for media PR

I think what he said is that Dangote Refinery will not refine fuel (PMS) until 2025, he made the statement after some people in Govt claim the Refinery will start operation in June 2023. He might still be right cos Dangote Refinery announced that they will be only refine diesel and avaition fuel for now.

He said the refinery has not been completed and cannot refine.

.....honestly that's my hope with the sad news too. They start with Diesel and jet fuel. Hope its gonna bring down Diesel price to like ₦300 per litre. This will help manufacturing firms to increase their productivities and reduce their prices.

It will also help to reduce food inflation as well, cos cheap transportation of foodstuff means cheap price at marketplaces.

Domestic flight may reduce their fares too, if jetf fuel price crashes.

You can consider an inverter system or rechargeable fans.

If the light in your area is like the guy in festac where they take it for 6 days and bring it for a couple of hours, none of the above solutions will work without a generator.
