Source: ChatGPT The Oyo Empire, a powerful Yoruba state in present-day Nigeria, was involved in several military campaigns beyond its borders, particularly in West Africa, including areas that are now Benin Republic, Togo, and Ghana. Here are some key points regarding these military engagements:
### 1. **Expansion and Influence** - The Oyo Empire, at its height in the 17th and 18th centuries, sought to expand its influence across the region. The Oyo army was known for its cavalry and military organization, which allowed it to exert power over neighboring regions.
### 2. **Benin Republic** - **Wars with the Kingdom of Dahomey**: The Oyo Empire frequently clashed with the Kingdom of Dahomey (located in present-day Benin). These conflicts were often over trade routes and territorial control. The Oyo army aimed to dominate the region to secure trade access to the coastal areas. - **Conquest of Lagos**: Oyo forces also engaged in campaigns that affected coastal cities like Lagos, which was part of the larger efforts to control trade and resources.
### 3. **Togo** - Oyo's expansionist policies extended into parts of present-day Togo, particularly in the areas inhabited by the Ewe and other ethnic groups. Although specific battles may not be well-documented, Oyo's influence in the region was felt through trade and military presence.
### 4. **Ghana** - **Ashanti Wars**: The Oyo Empire had interactions with the Ashanti Empire in what is modern-day Ghana. Although direct military conflicts were less frequent, the Oyo sought to assert influence over the Ashanti, primarily through trade and political alliances. The Oyo also competed for control over the gold trade routes in the region.
### 5. **Trade and Slave Raids** - The Oyo army was involved in slave raids and trade, which often resulted in military confrontations with neighboring groups. These activities sometimes led to conflicts with local rulers in Benin, Togo, and Ghana, as Oyo sought to expand its wealth and resources.
### 6. **Decline of Oyo Power** - By the late 19th century, internal strife and external pressures weakened the Oyo Empire. This decline affected its military capabilities and influence in the region.
### Conclusion The Oyo army was an influential military force in West Africa, engaging in various conflicts and establishing trade relations across present-day Benin Republic, Togo, and Ghana. Their military campaigns were often driven by the desire for territorial expansion and economic control, impacting the dynamics of power in the region.

Politics › Re: My Opponents Created Hunger & Poverty In Nigeria - Tinubu Tells Kaduna People by itzadorable333: 8:19pm On Oct 24*. Modified: 8:51pm On Oct 24 |
Ezeama400: President Bola Tinubu has accused opposition parties of being responsible for the hunger and poverty confronting Nigerians, insisting that his administration is working to address the country's economic challenges.
Tinubu made the remarks on Saturday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off rally in Kaduna State, where he appealed to Nigerians to support his bid for a second term in office in the 2027 general election.
The President's comments came amid continuing public concerns over the cost of living, rising household expenses and the impact of his administration's economic reforms.
Addressing supporters at the rally, Tinubu challenged opposition politicians who have criticised his government over hunger and poverty, accusing them of creating the problems they now blame his administration for.
"I hear my opponents talking about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did. They created hunger. They created poverty. We are trying to eradicate it," the President said.
Tinubu maintained that his administration was committed to improving the country's economic conditions, promising Nigerians prosperity, economic recovery and greater opportunities. He also accused his political opponents of offering Nigerians hatred rather than practical solutions to the country's challenges. "Our opponents are angry because they are playing you. They have nothing to offer you but hate. We have prosperity, consistency, growth, recovery, and opportunity. I assure you," he said. The President urged Nigerians not to be deceived by opposition campaign messages, calling on his supporters to remain vigilant against what he described as attempts to mislead the electorate. "Be careful. Watch them. Don't let them lie to you," Tinubu told the crowd.
The Kaduna rally marked the formal commencement of the APC's campaign to secure Tinubu's re-election in 2027. The President called on eligible Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate in the electoral process, stressing the importance of supporting the ruling party at all levels of government. "Do you have your PVC? Do you have your PVC? Show your hands," he asked supporters at the gathering. He urged voters to support APC candidates in presidential, governorship, National Assembly and state House of Assembly elections. Tinubu also commended APC governors for their performance, particularly in the payment of workers' salaries and the implementation of development programmes in their respective states. He expressed confidence that his administration's policies would deliver improved economic conditions and a better future for Nigerians. The President's decision to begin his re-election campaign in Kaduna also underscores the importance of northern Nigeria to the APC's electoral calculations ahead of the 2027 general election. The North-West, in particular, represents a significant voting bloc that could influence the outcome of the presidential contest.
Tinubu's remarks come against the backdrop of persistent public debate over the impact of his administration's economic policies, including petrol subsidy removal and foreign exchange reforms. Although the government has defended the measures as necessary to stabilise the economy and promote long-term growth, many Nigerians continue to face financial pressure from food prices, transportation costs and other essential expenses. Opposition politicians have repeatedly criticised the administration over the economic situation, arguing that its policies have worsened the living conditions of ordinary citizens. The President, however, has maintained that his government is working to reverse the situation and create opportunities for economic growth. His latest comments in Kaduna suggest that the economic debate will remain central to the political contest ahead of the 2027 elections.

Food › Re: Which State Has The Best Egusi Soup, And Who Truly Owns Egusi? by itzadorable333: 8:02pm On Oct 24 |
LocalBuka: Nigerians can turn almost anything into a debate, but food arguments are particularly interesting because everybody suddenly becomes an expert.
So let's talk about egusi. Which state makes the best egusi soup? Is it the Yoruba style, the Igbo style, or a version from another part of Nigeria that people rarely give enough attention?
Some people love egusi with well-formed lumps. Others prefer a thicker, more blended texture. Then there are the people who believe that the vegetables, palm oil, assorted meat, stockfish, crayfish and seasoning must come together in a very particular way.
But beyond the question of taste, there is another argument: who actually owns egusi? Egusi is widely eaten across Nigeria, and its preparation varies between communities and households. Nigeria's food traditions are diverse, as documented by the National Institute for Cultural Orientation. That makes it worth distinguishing between a dish being associated with a community and claiming that the community is its only rightful owner.
Personally, I think we should be able to celebrate the different styles without pretending that everybody must cook the same way.
Let's hear your arguments:
Which state or ethnic group's egusi is your favourite?
Do you prefer fried egusi or egusi cooked directly in the soup?
Which vegetable must be present in your ideal egusi?
Is egusi the property of one ethnic group, or has it become part of a wider Nigerian food culture?
What is the one mistake that ruins a pot of egusi for you?
Please explain your choice. "My state is the best" is not enough evidence. Tell us what makes the soup special. Let's have a proper food debate. Every ethnic group's way of cooking Egusi is best for them, why do you want to shake this Egusi table everyone is managing? |

L1TTLE: Lol and this is supposed to be embarrassing? Going by your analogy you've assumed I'm that guy who sees a girl on the street i just ask her out, before i ask you out we would've been friends for a while, I don't ask a girl out on a whim, is it abnormal to care about someone you've known to some extent? so you're naive for assuming that too. Lol if you don't 'ask a girl out on a whim' as you claim, it means you are not naïve as it appears, but then one who is not naïve in affairs like this should not let emotions get the better of them when their requests get turned down. Besides, one who is experienced as you now claim, should know better than to approach a lady who'll turn them down. |
