Business / Mfumu Arnold Kufulula, Congo Prince Talks To Blackwash by itzblessed: 4:36pm On Mar 14, 2023
Prince Arnold Kufulula was born and raised in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Also known as the Wolf of Congo, he’s an Mfumu (Crown) of Bapindi tribe, author, entrepreneur and philanthropist. When he is not meeting with producers, directors and agents about Royalty Noire Tv, he is giving back to refugees and orphanages in Goma, the D.R.C.

Despite his tight schedule, Prince Arnold still organizes his time to perform official duties and engagements representing his country. He grew up in the Batandu area, a poverty-stricken area, with his single-mother Micheline. Though the Wolf of Congo was first in the line of succession and heir apparent to the Congolese Bapindi Kingdom throne, he was not made aware of who he was (a prince), until the age of 18 as declared by his grandfather and former King of the Bapindi Kingdom, Lambert Kabamba. To Prince Arnold, the path is made by walking. He is currently building Oasys Royale, what is soon to be one of DR Congo’s most exquisite luxury real estate firms, Roi Royale Club, a luxury fashion house, and Royalty Noire, a premium African production and publishing studio.

Prince Arnold Kufulula shares insights into the prolonged conflict in the DRC, his new project, Wolf of Congo, the Pan-Africanist Patrice Lumumba among other issues with BLACKWASH Publisher, Oludare Sorunke.

The situation in the DRC runs contrary to conscience and morality. Can you do a deep dive into how the pogrom escalated?

The silent holocaust in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) definitely runs contrary to conscience and morality. The carnage, which has led to loss of lives and properties, displaced families and turned citizens to refugees are a direct result of complex political intrigues enabled by some very powerful interests in the global north– notably Belgium, France, the UK, and the USA. Decades of war, violence, and poverty have claimed the lives of over 5million people. An absence of schools, health care, and reliable income-generating opportunities has also hindered communities’ ability to emerge from the crisis.

Culture / Brazil Carnival 2023 And Its Aftermath by itzblessed: 3:34pm On Mar 14, 2023
The Brazil Carnival 2023 was held from February 15 to 25, 2023 in the capital city, Rio de Janeiro after two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Carnival is usually celebrated five days preceding Ash Wednesday, which is the start of Lent in the Catholic calendar. At the heart of the Carnival is the samba, which is the perfect illustration of the Afro-European blend that defines Brazilian culture.

Christian Lens, an online news media reports;’ in 2023, Brazil’s annual Carnival celebrations took a controversial turn as a group of revelers took to the streets to participate in what they called the “Satan Carnival’. The event, which was held in the city of Rio de Janeiro, featured participants dressed in black and red costumes, with many wearing devil horns and carrying pitchforks. Some revelers even wore masks with satanic symbols, such as inverted crosses’.

The Carnival has drawn criticisms from many religious groups and individuals all over the world who condemned the event as offensive and sacrilegious Many have also expressed shock and anger at the performances, saying it was distasteful and contentious.

According to Christian Lens; ‘Despite the backlash, the Satan Carnival participants continued their march through the streets of Rio de Janeiro, accompanied by loud music and dancing. The atmosphere was chaotic and frenzied, with many onlookers unsure of what to make of the spectacle before them.

Crime / Armed Policemen, Touts, Lagos Agency Besiege Estate, Demolish Fences. by itzblessed: 8:00am On Oct 04, 2022
Around 5:00pm on a windy evening of Friday, 23 September 2022, in the sleepy community of Oriko-Agungi, Ogombo town, Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area (LCDA) residents were returning from work and settling down with their families, when they were jolted at the sudden appearance of some stern looking men who came in a caravan of bulldozer and vehicles and besieged Roseville Garden Estate.

Just like any other private residential estate in the Lekki-Epe corridor, Roseville Garden Estate is at various stages of development; plot owners who are just moving to site, some about completing their projects, others who fenced theirs so they could build when funds are available or flip when they need cash. Many of the plots have already been developed and occupied.

Subject property is under government approved Certificate of occupancy (C of O) and many other owners with Governor’s Consent and building approvals from the Lagos State government.

BLACKWASH gathered from a resident who pleaded anonymity that apart from the police men, there were many thugs, who beat up people who tried to accost them. The hapless residents, who were informed that the men came from Alausa, the Lagos State secretariat watched as fences were demolished.

BLACKWASH also gathered that the incident was sequel to several threats and a court case with some individuals who claim ownership to the property. Sometime in 2018, a few months after the death of Mama Hannah Bakare, the matriarch (Olori-Ebi) of Bakare clan, some members of the family started to harass owners of the plots. They were not deterred despite the fact that the owners have receipts of purchase from the late matriarch and approved land documents; Governor’s Consent, Building Plans, etc. The matter was reported to the Task Force, Lagos State Land Grabbing and taken to the Lagos State High Court, Epe

Celebrities / Kate Onakomaiya, Author Of The Growing Life Shares by itzblessed: 4:39pm On Apr 29, 2022
A decade after joining the John Maxwell Leadership Team, Kate’s career has witnessed an exponential growth. Kate Onakomaiya is the Managing Director of Exponential Growth Academy Ltd, a company that provides sustainable leadership training, coaching, speaking and consulting services to promote higher levels of engagement, performance and profitability. She consults for corporate and individual clients across Africa and beyond.

BLACKWASH publisher, Oludare Sorunke engages Kate as she talks about her new book, The Growing Life, personal development, career choices and how we can become the better version of ourselves.

Please tell us about your book, The Growing Life. What influenced it?

The Growing Life was borne out of my desire to add value to society. It is my wish to see lives transformed through consistent and intentional living. I want to help people get out of stagnation and despondency and live consciously, fulfilling their dreams. The book is intended to inspire those who are already on the journey of growth to keep the fire burning and find support along the way.

I believe we are all created to be more, do more and have more. Life is meant to be progressive but it is not so for many people. Many people find themselves just going through the motions every day and life feels stagnant. When life is stagnant, it gives room for toxicity because everything bad grows in a stagnant place. If you are not making progress, then you are probably stagnant and need to plug into personal growth. In The Growing Life, I talked about the six core areas of life where you need to be making continuous progress in order to live a balanced and fulfilled life. I shared my personal experience and how I moved from unintentional growth to intentional growth. If you are already on a path of growth, this book will inspire you to continue taking the steps necessary to stay the path.

I have always wanted to be more, have more, and do more. I am a firm believer that our lives should be progressive and not stagnant or regressive. I also believe that growth must be intentional for it to be truly meaningful. Growth guarantees a brighter future for those who take it seriously.

The book is like a coaching guide. Someone who read it said, “Kate, this book should be a memoir! I am so glad I know you because I can see you on all the pages.” I share my story of intentional growth and how one of the best on the subject, John C Maxwell, is mentoring me, because I want all those who read it to be inspired to live to their fullest potentials.

The book is dedicated to my late father, Augustine Ivo Njie, who taught me to read widely and see a world beyond what I was experiencing growing up.

How important are the principles in The Growing Life to living?

The principles are very relatable to every facet of life. For example, the principle of “Believing You Are Worth It” is crucial to our everyday success, because if you don’t believe you can succeed, you will never be a success. Faith in yourself and your calling or chosen vocation is a powerful force to spur you to success.

There was a time when I discovered that I was not growing (I mentioned that experience in the book) and this affected everything else –my physical and mental health, spiritual life, finances and relationships.

When we are not growing, we are declining or dying. When we are not growing, we are toxic and can get to a point of self-destructing. We can even become a danger to those around us. Growth brings meaning to life and makes life meaningful.

When we apply the principles outlined in the book, we will experience joy, fulfillment, peace, and greater performance in every area of our lives.

Who should read the book?

Everyone! The book is written in plain and simple language so anyone can understand it. The principles are universal and they work wherever you find yourself. So far, students have read the book, professionals have read it, coaches, business owners and bankers too… The Growing Life is meant for anyone interested in becoming a better version of themselves and recognizing the importance of intentional growth as a means of unleashing their full potentials.

Is this your first? Any more in the works?

Yes, this is my first book!

I have so many other books in me and I am currently writing my second book on Leadership. My books will be centered on personal growth, leadership, faith, communication, and values

How many books have you authored and which was the most demanding?
I am the author of two titles; Life’s Not Hard but A Challenge and Married With Broken Pieces (2020) which was more demanding because it detailed the story of my husband and me. I wanted to be as honest as possible without making me the saint and my husband the horrible guy. I wanted readers to see the need for self love, self worth, knowing that with God, anything including marriage can work.
What inspires your writings?
Life and the fact the I know and understand that we all have a purpose. A purpose to touch the lives of others, sharing with them that God is the author and finisher of our faith and that He is with us in the midst of it all.
We were crafted on purpose, for a purpose and we have to remember that when life happens to us, it isn’t just for us alone but for others. That’s what inspires me to write.

At Creation Essential’s Natural Body, we create organic products with organic ingredients. We produce earthly organic products that are healthy for our customers and for the planet and our goal is to provide products that nourish all skin types.
Self-starters believe the world is your oyster when you start a business. However, some have said that entrepreneurship comes with pain.
I agree. There are so many opportunities out there for entrepreneurs and the only thing that can hold them back are themselves. With every new venture comes challenges and obstacles. But as entrepreneurs you must remember that with every challenge you will have an opportunity waiting for you around the corner. You must be bold enough to reach around and grab it. The hardest part for me is not getting that sale, waiting for a sale to come through during a slow season is like watching paint dry. But I remind myself that this is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for. It is an opportunity to connect with my customers as well as take a deeper look into my marketing strategies. Sometimes as entrepreneurs, we must create opportunities for our businesses.

Luxembourg based Nigerian painter and sculptor, Uyi Nosa-Ordia has been at the frontline of crafting very spectacular art forms. Uyi has gained credibility among his contemporaries in the highly competitive art industry and the elite clientele in Europe.

In this interview with BLACKWASH Executive Editor, Oludare Sorunke, Uyi discussed about his craft, art business in Europe and a call to action on the stolen Benin artefacts.

Tell us about the Tableaux de Fusion-TDF event.

Tableaux de Fusion is a social art project to celebrate the European Capital of Culture, Esch-sur-Alzette, for the year 2022, ESCH2022. This is the second largest city in Luxembourg. The project involves the collaboration of several artists of different professions, techniques and nationalities. It will involve photography, digital art (graphics design), printing and painting. With a final exhibition to present 45 collaborative artworks representing European communities. I created the art project to promote cooperation amongst artists irrespective of their ethnicities or cultural
backgrounds.

What inspires your works?
I am inspired by life in all its forms around and within me.

What medium of art do you specialize in?
I paint, sculpt and create performance art.

If you are to live a second life, will you choose art?
Absolutely.

Can you consider a six digit annual income in a white collar job?
My life without creating art will be uninteresting and unfulfilling regardless of the economic benefits I may receive.

What are your frustrations on the job?
I’m not sure I’ll call them frustrations but maybe some challenges. For instance, I’d like to host bigger shows and participate in more reputable expos around the world. But I understand that the best things don’t often come easy. That’s a challenge but one that’s surmountable.

Business / Mariskaville Hotel Will Redefine The Hospitality Landscape In Lagos-victor Orie by itzblessed: 5:56pm On Oct 25, 2021
‘From experience, I know that if you give people good service, they will come back. We are going to establish a culture here that from the gate to anywhere in the hotel, we will serve people. Our cuisine will be a combination of African and international dishes. We want people to come from very far places. I’ve discovered that word of mouth spreads faster than any advertisement, because it is more authentic.’

Victor Okwudiri Orie is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Mariskaville Hotels. The 33 room-hotel, which is about to be commissioned, is located in the serene neighbourhood of Golden Pearls Estate, along Lekki- Epe express way, Lagos. Victor Orie worked with several blue chip companies, including British American Tobacco-BAT, MTN Nigeria and MTN Foundation. An avid reader and lover of arts, he wants to bring his experience of over two decades to bear in the hospitality industry. His mantra has always been to put smiles on the faces of people and give back to the society.

BLACKWASH Publisher, Oludare Sorunke met Victor Orie early this week.

You started with an event centre and lounge, why are you expanding to hotel business?

Actually, it’s not an expansion because in a hotel environment, you have banqueting and events .I have always had a passion for hospitality. Secondly I’ve stayed in 4,3,2,1 star hotels in Nigeria and abroad. I observe that once a visitor enters a hotel, whether as a private or corporate client, he wants to spoil himself. Nigerians work very hard but they don’t reward themselves. I feel that I owe them a duty to reward them for their hard work. It is a life ambition.

Have you considered the rates for your rooms? Hope they will not be expensive.

Yes please, but we have not decided on the prices. Expensive or cheap is very relative. We have a particular clientele in mind. We are not for everybody, though we are sensitive to what is going on in the industry. We also intend to be innovative. We are working towards having a balance in terms of pricing. We want total entertainment for anyone who visits our hotel.

Some mama put serve delicious foods more than some expensive hotels. We do not want a situation where our guests will stay in our hotel and go outside to eat. We will avoid that. We have a limit to what we can decide as profit. Our rooms may be expensive, but our drinks and food will not be expensive.
What are the activities that will sell your hotel? How do you intend to draw traffic to your hotel?

You mentioned activities, but I call them products. There are things in place which I cannot tell you at the moment because they are proprietary. I’m talking about showcasing our culture. No one can emphasize our culture better than us. Though, I mentioned that the best of Nollywood will be patronizing our hotel, something has to be happening before they come. We have a platform where a lot of things will happen and people will have a reason to visit Mariskaville every time.

Are you going to partner with artists or you want to promote African art alone? Will you be holding art exhibitions or in-house art gallery?

If you look around, you will see art works on the building, swimming pool and on the fence. That tells you that I am already engaging an artist. This place will be a kind of art gallery of its own. We are trying to promote our civilization. I could have bought tiles to finish the walls, but I decided to emphasize our art and promote our artists. Don’t be surprised if you see expatriates here, because this hotel will be a bastion of art. So beyond the hotel, we will also cater for those who have a taste for art.

Do you have plans for expansion?

Absolutely, within and outside Lagos.

People are embracing technology, how convenient are your bookings and reservations?

The world is embracing technology and businesses cannot remain on brick and mortar. We are finalizing our website, where visitors can book and pay from anywhere in the world. We are in an industry where booking is held for a particular period, so visitors know that if they do not pay, I am free to sell the room to another visitor. There are a lot of things that we can do which will be stated in the terms and conditions; discounts for early bookings, penalty for refunds, etc.

Business / 10 Ways Msmes Can Attract And Retain The Best Talents, Outside ‘money’. by itzblessed: 7:33am On Sep 14, 2021
Human Resources remain the main asset of any organization, however, it the Talents that drive an organization to success. Therefore, in the absence of good talents, success is far-fetched.

Talent is defined as the sum of a person’s abilities, including intrinsic gifts, skills, knowledge, experience, intelligence, judgment, attitude, character, as well as an ability to learn and grow (Michaels, Handfield-Jones, & Axelrod, 2001: xii)

Every organization seeks to have highly skilled and loyal workers to give the company competitive edge. The competition for highly talented and experienced recruits is as fierce as the competition to gain market share. Companies want to be portrayed as attractive employers for prospective applicants and current employees. Attracting and retaining such people requires constant motivation.

Motivation is not limited to monetary rewards alone. Factors such as organization culture, work-life balance and other fringe benefits; play a crucial role in ensuring motivated workforce. There are a good number of HR practices that MSMEs need to implement to attract the right people. According to Tolulope Kolade-Nwanguma, Deputy HR Manager of Advans La Fayette Micronance Bank, ‘here are some of the strategies we adopt here at Advans Nigeria’:

Internal recruitment: Directly filling top or new position internally gives a sense of ownership to staff and also encourages them to improve their skills and deliver better visible value to their organizations. This way, they stay faithful to the organization and are motivated to do more. This also reduces cost of training and recruitment for the organization since the new hires are already a part of the organization and understand the culture and general work ethics. Advans Nigeria always look internal first to fill top positions.

Work-life balance: A healthy work-life balance is a determinant to job satisfaction. People spend the major parts of their lives at work but still have the need to make time for other personal things like family, hobbies and so on. Hence, work hours should be communicated and respected and additional work should be at the employee’s discretion. The annual leave is also a very essential benefit for staff. It prevents employee burnout by providing them with time to rest both mentally and physically, and be able to resume work rejuvenated. We understand this in Advans Nigeria, which is why our leave entitlement goes beyond just annual leave and maternity leave, but includes paternity leave, exam leave, etc.

Organizing retreat and events: This is an extension of work-life balance. Organizing retreats and events occasionally for employees is a great way in helping them take stress off. Retreats and events such football competition, etc. also provide an opportunity for staff bonding which goes a long way in promoting staff retention.

Conducive work environment: Providing an accommodating and work-friendly environment spurs creativity. The work environment consists of the buildings, work tools, furniture, as well as the physical space in which an employee is expected to function. It is essential that the work environment is standardized with an encouraging ambience. Equipped with work tools and resources the employee requires to perform work efficiently and effectively.

Medium of advertisement: As insignificant as this may seem, it goes a long way at determining the type of audience that will respond to your hiring exercise. This is because different people have access to different media, for example, the type of people that would respond to a newspaper advertisement might be different from those that would respond to electronic recruitment advertisements. Today, social media is one of the most versatile and cost-effective ways to reach out to potential candidates, however, we must ensure that the advert is attractive and well detailed enough to attract the desired audience

Referrals from current employees: Referral as a means of hiring, attracts hard-working and committed employees. Research shows that referred employees are generally the best candidates. This is because current employees feel that their reputation in the organization is at stake with the referral, therefore, they tend to make referrals only when they are reasonably confident that these candidates are suitably competent (Robbins & Decenzo, 2004: 174). It is also an inexpensive way of recruiting top talents. On the part of the referring employee, it makes them feel important in the decision making process of the organization, which also serves as a catalyst for retention. Based on this, whenever possible it is a good practice to communicate vacant positions to employees.

Training and development: Creating an avenue for workers to grow and develop themselves career-wise is a strong attracting factor any organization can have. At Advans, we not only give room for employees to improve themselves through on-the-job training, we also go as far as covering the costs of industry-relevant professional examinations and certifications for our staff. This induces a certain level of prestige and improvement in their qualifications

Sound Corporate Governance: according to The Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland, Corporate governance is the system of rules, practices and processes by which a company is directed and controlled. Corporate Governance refers to the way in which companies are governed and to what purpose. It identifies who has power and accountability, and who makes decisions. Your processes have to be organised, you should have proper organograms, job descriptions. These things matter to experienced talents.

Positive corporate culture: Corporate culture refers to the beliefs and behaviors that determine how a company’s employees and management interact and handle day to day business activities, internally and externally. Your employees should embody certain traits as members of your organisation. Traits such as mutual-respect, integrity, professionalism, etc.

Feedback: one of the most innate needs of humans is the need to feel heard. You should have an effective feedback mechanism in place in your organization. Employees should feel like they can share their honest but constructive feedback on policies, products, other staff members without being castigated. There should also be a process in place for the review and execution of ideas that are shared

Finally, if you take care of your employees, your employees will in turn take care of the productivity and revenue of your business. Big brand names are not made in a day. But we must also understand that we can do everything right and the good talents will still need to move on. Don’t take it personally, if you have great organizational structure and processes, even your ex-staff will continue to be ambassadors of your brand wherever they go.

Oludare Sorunke, Executive Editor, BLACKWASH had a moment with Ayobami.

Can we meet you sir?

My name is Adesikun Ayobami Israel. I was born on 1 July, 1998. I’m the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Haywhy Luxury Place. I’m from Osun State, South West Nigeria. I’m single. I graduated from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun state. I studied Agricultural Cooperative Management. I took online courses to be up to date about Gemstones business. There is no certified jewellery institution that deals with the study of precious stones in Nigeria.

Tell us why you decided to go into luxury jewellery business.

I decided to go into the business of luxury jewellery because of my passion for custom made items, especially very rare items that are not on mass production. That is what separates custom made jewellery from costumes jewelry. I love hand picked designs and it makes people look unique and standout in a crowd. I’ve been in the jewellery business since I was in 300 level at the university.

How do you identify quality jewellery?

Every solid gold jewellery has a stamp at the back that shows the metal base of the jewellery piece and we offer Certificate of Authenticity for custom made jewellery that shows the Karat of the metal base, diamond clarity, cut, carat and weight of the jewellery.

Do you think people appreciate quality jewellery?

There’s a saying that “ if you don’t understand the price or value of something, it’s probably not meant for you’.
The people that appreciate it, buy it as an investment, not for fashion alone.

What brands of gemstones do you stock?

Precious stones like natural mined diamonds and gemstones like Achroite Tourmaline, Swarovski Gemstones and so on.

Where do you source your products?

I have a manufacturing company and I sketch and design my jewellery before production.

Career / The Essentials Of David Fasasi: Pastor, Author, Officer, Gentleman. by itzblessed: 10:15pm On Aug 02, 2021
In this encounter with Oludare Sorunke, Executive Editor, BLACKWASH, David Fasasi shares his journey from a predominantly Muslim household to the pulpit and expounds on religious tolerance, crime, divorce and other issues. David Babtunde Fasasi is a pastor, author, philanthropist, policeman who works with the prestigious New York Police Department-NYPD, United States of America.

Tell us about your daily devotional, PROSPERITY WITHOUT BOUNDARY.

The daily devotional ‘PROSPERITY WITHOUT BOUNDARY/BOUNDARIES was birthed through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. This came as a result of my passion for winning souls, most especially, in the area of prosperity. I see how families struggle on daily basis dealing with life’s issues, most especially in the developing countries where the governments can hardly provide the basic necessities, like electiricty, gas, pipe-borne water, good roads, quality education, affordable heath care etc. The burden of sending children to school, feeding three or more children and providing for their welfare is the nightmare of over 65% of households from most of those countries.

I strongly believe that God still takes care of His children like He did for the Israelites in the Bible.

The essence of Christ coming to the world is to reconcile God’s children back to Him so they can enjoy all the blessings in their father’s kingdom. “You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes, he became poor so that by his poverty he could make you rich.” (2 Corinthians 8:9).

This daily devotional expounds on the state of man, the mind and intent of God and how we can rebuild our relationships with God.

When will you launch your book, what formats is it available and where can we get it?

PROSPERITY WITHOUT BOUNDARY/BOUNDARIES will be launched today, 1st August 2021. For now, it is only available on Amazon Kindle. The hardcover will be in circulation in a couple of weeks.

Tell us about your Christian Ministry.

DAVID B. FASASI MINISTRIES INTERNATIONAL INC. was first registered as a subsidiary of HOUSE OF PRAYER AND MIRACLE MINISTRIES INTERNATIONAL INC. both incorporated in the United States of America. Activities of the latter include church services, revivals, crusades, prayer sessions, evangelism.

It was actually in my bid to be objective that I chose to write The Tower of Mammon via a first-person narrative.

Please tell us about your career in NAL Merchant Bank. When did you join the bank and when did you leave?

My career in NAL was simultaneously challenging and interesting. I have the bank, which I joined in 1978 and left in 1995, to thank for my higher education and professional grooming.

Business / Chubbykam Inverter & Solar Solution by itzblessed: 12:48pm On Jul 10, 2020
Speaking with newsmen in his office, the Managing Director, Mr Uchenna Izundu, said that the best his company could do to reduce the burden of consumers this very hot weather is to slash their prices so that they can enjoy uninterrupted power supply.

‘We live in a part of the world that experiences a tropical wet and dry climate. The sun is scorching most of the time, thereby causing agonising heat. With temperatures as high as 35 degrees Celcius and the epileptic power supply by the electricity distribution companies, the best anyone can do is to source for alternative power’, said Mr Izundu.

According to the World Health Organisation, WHO, global temperatures and the frequency and intensity of heatwaves will rise in the 21st century as a result of climate change. Extended periods of high day and nighttime temperatures create cumulative physiological stress on the human body which exacerbates the top causes of death globally, including respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus and renal disease.

Politics / Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Saga Has Not Ended by itzblessed: 8:49am On Mar 16, 2020
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi saga has not ended but it has reached an important denouement. As the Emir of Kano, Sanusi was a leading member of the establishment. In the hierarchy among Fulani princes, he was second only to the Sultan of Sokoto, the direct descendant of Usman Dan Fodio, the Fulani revolutionary who led the war that ended the centuries-old Habe dynasties in the Hausa country. Sanusi himself is a member of the Fulani clan that put an end to the reign of the Hausa Sultan in Kano, got him killed along with his leading nobles and sent the remnant of the royal family into oblivion. Today, Sanusi’s foes would wish he would quietly go into oblivion. He would not.

On Monday March 9, 2020, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano, finally moved when he signed the instrument of deposition for Sanusi. Ganduje had received the backing of the state House of Assembly made up mostly of his colleagues in the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC. Earlier in the day, security agencies; the police and members of The State Security Service, have sealed up the palace and put the emir under virtual house arrest. The emir, a compelling showman, dressed up in his full regalia, moved to the palace veranda below which staff has gathered in their hundreds. The emir waved to them. The scene was eerie with pathos. <<< read more >>> @ https://shrinkme.io/laChsVX
Sports / Virgil Van Dijk Will Take Liverpool To The Next Level, Says Jamie Redknapp by itzblessed: 9:43am On Jan 22, 2018
While it was a blow to lose Philippe Coutinho, the signing of Virgil van Dijk has made Liverpool a better team, says Jamie Redknapp...

Liverpool's 4-3 win over Manchester City last weekend was such a big result for the club - for a number of reasons.

But perhaps most importantly it will have given them the belief that they can still demolish a team as good as City without Philippe Coutinho.

They've still got a fantastic front three there, in Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has revitalised his career since joining them. I've got no problems with them going forward; they play some great football.

That's not to say they're not going to miss Coutinho. Who wouldn't? He's a little genius. But in terms of the business they've done this January, I stand by it.

They sold Coutinho to Barcelona for a huge fee, £146m, and have brought in Virgil van Dijk for £75m - a player they badly needed. Ultimately, they needed a centre-back more than they needed Coutinho.

If they can get Van Dijk to the level they're hoping they can get him to and he can be the leader they need in that defence, then he can elevate them to the next level. And then, next season, they can look to compete with Manchester City.

Given Liverpool's strength in attack and weaknesses at the back, it looks like it has been a great trade for them.

The next position on Jurgen Klopp's list to address will be a goalkeeper - but I think that will have to wait until the summer.

Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius are both good goalkeepers but you just have to look at Ederson at Manchester City to see what a difference a top goalkeeper can make to a team. Last season Claudio Bravo was shaky, nervous. But while Ederson makes the odd mistake, such as his misplaced kick last weekend, he's been brilliant for City.... <<< read more >>> @ www.galatixnews.com

The 36-year-old was diagnosed with an irregular heart rhythm following tests last year but has had a procedure to correct the issue and is now back in training and has not given up on a return to the United side.

Sports / Virgil Van Dijk V Sergio Aguero: The Key Battle When Liverpool Host Manchester C by itzblessed: 7:01am On Jan 12, 2018
The world's most expensive defender goes up against the Premier League's best ever minutes-per-goal striker live on Sky Sports on Sunday - but will Liverpool's £75m man Virgil van Dijk or Manchester City's Sergio Aguero come out on top?

Van Dijk made a dream start to his Liverpool career, scoring a derby winner on his debut in the FA Cup against Everton on Friday night. If he scores again on Sunday he would become only the second Liverpool defender to score on his Premier League debut after Abel Xavier, who scored 16 minutes into his first appearance in a 6-0 win at Ipswich in February 2002.

However, former Southampton captain Van Dijk was signed by Liverpool for his defensive qualities and the Reds will be buoyed by the fact that he has outperformed all of their other centre-back options since his arrival at St Mary's in September 2015.

The £75m defender headed home in the 85th minute to a thunderous ovation around Anfield as Liverpool extended their unbeaten derby run to 16 matches.
James Milner had given Liverpool the lead in the 35th minute when he converted from the penalty spot after Mason Holgate fouled Adam Lallana.

Sports / Arsenal’s Lack Of Progress: Summer Words Have Counted For Nothing by itzblessed: 2:21pm On Jan 03, 2018
It is only eight months since the announcement but it makes for curious reading now. "I will start by stating what the ambition is," said Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis upon revealing that Arsene Wenger had agreed a new two-year contract as the club's manager. "The ambition is to put this club in a position where we are winning the Premier League."

Gazidis was not a lone voice. The sentiment was echoed by Arsenal chairman Stan Kroenke. "Our ambition is to win the Premier League and other major trophies in Europe," said Kroenke. "It is what the fans, players, staff, manager and board expect and we will not rest until that is achieved. Arsene is the best person to help us make that happen."

Wenger himself outlined the plans for a title push too. "This is a strong group of players and with some additions we can be even more successful," he claimed. "We are committed to mounting a sustained league challenge and that will be our focus this summer and next season." Perhaps that's why he still refuses to concede that the title has long gone.

Arsenal sit sixth in the Premier League table going into Wednesday's game against Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium. They are 24 points behind leaders Manchester City. Six adrift of Liverpool in fourth. But while Jurgen Klopp has just agreed to pay £75m for a defender, Wenger is not expected to spend big despite bringing in only two players last summer.... <<< read more >>> @ www.galatixnews.com
