How you commence your week determines how productive it ends… Accumulation of productivity for weeks, determines how productive your year would be… Less productivity would result into longer time before achieving your long term goal… So let’s solve the problem from the feet upward, and let’s see how we can actually make our week productive. There is no magic to success, I have read bunch of books on success guide, and many others on Achieving goals, the general theme around those books is planning and timing… Successful people understand the basis of planning and time management at a very early stage of life. They don’t just put on a piece of cloth, head out and hope for the best. No! In contrast, they make plans, and try as much as possible to stick to the plan. You can also master the art. By asking yourself the following questions on Sunday evening, right before you go to bed, or earlier than that. What’s Imperative? Ask yourself, what you need to do this week as a matter of importance. It might be more than one, try as much as possible to create a mental picture of what you need to do before the week runs out. Answers to this question are often a routine activity of what you’ve been doing before. Take for instance, it’s imperative for a student to go to class during the week, it’s imperative for a working class individual to go to his/her place of work, it’s imperative for business people to make contact and do more marketing as the case may be. The imperative task is either the end in itself or a means to an end. It’s either a task you do in other to achieve your long term goal, or the sustenance of the goal itself. It’s the core of your weekly activities, so you want to really put in your best effort to the imperative task and get it done as much as possible. Plan your week around the imperative task. What Did I Miss Last Week? It’s very much possible to leave some task undone in the previous week, even the imperative ones. Simply because the world does not just revolve around us alone, unforeseen circumstance might spring up and disrupt your plan. When this happens, ask yourself what you missed last week, and find a way of fixing it into your plan this week, without interfering with the imperative task. Take for instance, you missed a proposed visit to a friend or family member, you cancelled a date due to unprecedented circumstances, you missed a lecture because you weren’t feeling too well. Make plans to catch up on all your misses, and find a way of fixing it into your week. You can get a note to cover up for the missed lecture, call up your friend and see if you can re-fix the date… What Can I Do Ahead of Time? There are weeks, when the 24hours of the day seems like 30hours, and there are days when 24hours would be barely enough to complete the proposed task. But on days when you get lucky with time, probably when a scheduled meeting is cancelled, when a lecture is cancelled, or during a public holiday, make plans on what you can do to get ahead of time. Take for instance, you can read ahead of class lecture when you have enough time on your side, or better still, you can get a book you’ve always wanted to read and crack it open during the “free hours” If you don’t have a concrete plan has to what to do with your spare time, you would end up wasting it, simply because it’s not planned for. What’s my itinerary? This would not only save some cost, it would save time too. Take for instance, you work in the commercial part of the town, and you probably live in the sub-urban area, it’s a good practice to make plans as to your proposed route through the course of the week. You won’t have to ply the same route twice because you forgot to get something along the route. Because once you know you would be passing the route, you would definitely get what you want and save the cost, time and energy Create a weekly itinerary, and save yourself some headache. If you live in Lagos or Abuja where traffic is always massive all day, a good plan would save you from numerous headaches at the end of your day. What’s the long term goal? One of the greatest pitfalls in life is not having the end in mind before the beginning. It’s never a good idea to attack life without knowing where you’re going. Every week, review your long term goal and make plans as to how you intend to achieve it. Ask yourself if your small plans are actually contributing to the completion of your long term goals. Remember that days would always culminate into weeks, and weeks, into month, then month into years. The way you manage your day determines how productive your year would be. MOD should do the needful, and stop pushing FFK stories and his daughter to front page! CC: olawalebabs , Fynestboi, Richiez |
PS: This is a really long post, but I have made a summary for the sake of those that hate reading awfully long writeup. You can check the source for the complete article. In stressful academic settings like ours, it’s very easy to get trapped in the four walls of the institution and lose focus on what the real world entails. When the lecture materials are so much than you can handle, when the assignments and term papers become overwhelming, to crown it all, the 7am-6pm lecture schedule makes it look like we are robot. It’s either you read all night or fail… Social life becomes a luxury; eating a good meal as well becomes a rare opportunity. Five years (four in some cases) later, many would graduate and go outside, fresh out into the real wall, and they eventually become strangers out there. Relating with strangers becomes difficult; writing a two-page resume about yourself becomes a difficult task simply because you don’t know what to write about other than you certificates… No volunteering experience, no extracurricular activities, no award or something exceptional about you. It’s not your fault anyway, it’s just the way our educational system is set-up…. The best part of our undergraduate days are spent in the library, night classes and lecture room. But then, who says it has to be like that? What makes you think you can’t do other things than studying as an undergraduate? This post will share basic ideas of things you can do as an undergraduate to make an easy transition into the real world when the time comes. Things you should about the world outside there… 1. EDUCATE YOURSELF: It’s so easy to get confused when differentiating between getting a degree certificate and getting educated. A larger percentage of the graduates you see on daily basis are graduates by certificate, and they’re not really educated, as opposed to normal expectation. Now, what does being educated entails? In simple terms, it means attaining a higher level of reasoning, either based on previous personal experience, or on other people’s experience. It’s about having a clear pattern of making a decision and acting on current information, based on a clear-cut thought process. Clearly, all the courses we are taking as an undergraduate will not get us the self-education I am talking about here. The question now is; “How do I get educated”? Personal development! A larger percentage of successful people in life are self made. They understand the principle behind constant self improvement and created a pattern for their life based on the principle of self development. You can start your journey of personal development by doing the following: (a) Read non-academic books as much as possible. Get books written by successful people in your field of study, read about their experience, read as much as you can. Read during holidays, read during weekend, read as much as time would permit. If you can’t afford to get new books, there are various vendors around school area that are into old books. Get in-touch with a vendor around your campus, and give him a list of your preferred book, and ask him to get them for you when making his/her bulk purchase Another option is to check the internet for free EBooks, websites like (en.bookfi.org) comes in handy. (b) Read Popular Motivational/Inspirational and Life hack Blogs: The time we spend on Whatsapp, Facebook and other social media is enough to make a difference if used wisely. Make a compilation of your popular inspirational blog and create a bookmark for them on your mobile/web browser. Check out updates from this blogs on weekly basis. I spend a considerable number of hours reading threads on Quora, LifeHacker, Nairaland, Reddit and IWT, your list of favorite blog or website should have something to do with your topic of interest. Just start with something! And before you know it, you are learning already. (c) Start Something New and Master It: During my first year as an undergraduate, I wanted to learn something new, so I decided to learn Python programming language. At that particular point in time, I had no use for the language; I just wanted to learn something new. 2. Prepare For Your Intended Career It’s never too early to start taking professional exams right from your second year as an undergraduate. Accounting student should sign up for ICAN courses, Engineering student should sign up for project management courses, Medical Students and Engineering students should sign up for HSE (Health, Safety and Environmental) courses and get certified. This certification makes your Resume more attractive than the regular graduate resume. 3. Have Fun: So you really want to make first class at the expense of your social life… The truth remains that; everybody won’t graduate with a first class degree, and not every first class graduate ends up fulfilled in life. So yes! Have fun without harming your academics, the keys are to know your limit and stay in your financial lane. Go out, meet people and make acquaintance. Make valuable connection with both male and female, skinny and fat, beautiful and ugly, smart and dull, gentle and macho… You never can tell when any one of them would come handy. - See more at: http://www.oksprout.com/2015/08/things-undergraduates-should-do-or-know.html |
Nigeria bloggers should stop repackaging old wine into new wine skin! This topic has been discussed a zillion times! Now tell me, how on earth will this your fresh post climb up the Google ladder when there are thousand of blog post on this same topic? Bring something fresh to the table and your audience will grow! Be creative! How about making a post on "X Reasons Why Blogger Rocks and WordPress Sucks?" " X Reasons Why Your Blog Isn't Really A Blog" "101 Ways to Die as a Blogger" "You're Working For Google, Feel free to Introduce yourself as a Googler" You can discuss this same topic under those headline, and I would actually click and read those topics than what you have right now. #Goodluck |

Learn to sleep very well! I mean deep quality sleep! It works for me. Sleeping is part of learning. Dont deprive yourself of quality sleep all in the sake of studying. |
SolomonAdeola:Yes. I will send you links to my online articles. |

ojdollars:Replied your email already. |
How to get an AdSense account? 1. Hire a writer on fiverr to write two (2) One thousand words article for you. 2. Create an hubpages account 3. Participate on hubpages for a week and post the two quality articles. 4. Apply for AdSense through hubpages. 5. Get approval within three (3) days. Got my first AdSense account using Hubpages, and the account is so much "respected" that even when I use the code on pages that violate Google TOS, I would always get a friendly email, warning me to remove ads from those pages/website, if I don't, ads would eventually stop displaying on the website, but my account has never been banned. |
We have unused new buses parked inside the school senate building yet we are billed with the task of hiring commercial cyclist to move from main campus to College of Health Sciences everyday. I ply the same road twice per day and the danger on that road is enormous. LAUTECH administrative arm is a whack! SUG not helping too.... I hate that school, and I can't wait to get my degree and leave the God forsaken institution. |
Feraz:You're welcome! You learn more when you conduct your own research. |
Feraz:I am in no way obligated to your education. www.Google.com |
Nuclear power plant in Nigeria? when developed countries are getting rid of nuclear plants already! Why is Africa (Nigeria in particular) the world dumping site? Used Laptop, Used cars, Used Phones, Used clothes, Used gadgets, used trains, used aircraft e.t.c. Don't mess with the Russians! I would rather import candles than coalesce with Russians as regards electricity. |
Maybe it was a gift from somebody trying to tint their image. "Maybe". |
Why is David wiping his palm on his pants in the third picture? |

So we don't have renowned biomedical scientist from Nigeria? |
YinkaDiva:Your comment reeks of ignorance! Where in my post did I "form doctor"? What on earth made you think like that? Yes! I am a B.Tech anatomy student, and I am not "forming doctor " in your words. My department is under college of health sciences; Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences (hence the term "medical students" in my original post). I never said I am studying medicine, so read and understand before you post a comment. God! You're so myopic! |
Originalsly:Not that I lack the confidence to ask questions, but I can't ask questions like this in class because its not directly related to the course she is taking me, its more of a moral question and it won't benefit the entire class. Asking questions that query our lecturer's moral stand or the administrative arm of the school is considered rude and may attract an "unofficial consequence" Its Nigeria and things happens. |
Chartey:Another dumb assumption. You would be better off asking questions than making assumption. To maintain the integrity of my post, I have attached a picture of my course outline to show the course title. Your question should be: Why is my school curriculum different from the conventional medical school curriculum, and I would have answered you politely.
|
sexyseun:Sure! Everybody does! I can actually relate with his experience. Working on the human body and seeing all important structures you've read about in books with your own eyes is a good experience. |
UrennaNkoli:This has always been my assumption, but its a wrong one. A larger percentage of the bodies I have worked on for the past three years are Hausas and my school is in South West region of the country. So the bodies in my laboratory are not the unwanted ones in our teaching hospital. |
. |
madgoat:Not that am obligated to give a response, but I would anyway. Yes! am a fourth year student, and autopsy is one of the topic we discuss under Clinical and radiological anatomy. You should ask questions when you don't understand something, rather than making baseless and silly assumption. |
lollybee15:My school is state owned. I wish I can ask my HOD directly, but I can't. I just hope the money being paid is only a result of loop holes is the acquisition system. |
betterpikinn:You obviously don't understand the context of my question. Bodies are needed for medical education, at least for the first three years of medical school. Am just concerned about who is selling the bodies. Its supposed to be donated for free, or bodies that belongs to the government (inmates, mentally ill and unclaimed bodies) And to think my school is paying for those bodies makes me wonder how I am supposed to live with the guilt of dissecting somebody's body without his/her pleased consent. |
Yesterday during Clinical anatomy lecture (Autopsy) Our lecturer said the bodies (cadavers) in our laboratory are bought by the school, and its against the law to buy human bodies in Nigeria, which means the school is breaking the law to ensure that we are able to use the bodies for practical purpose. This is my fourth year, and I am hearing the "body buying" crime for the first time, my questions are; 1. Is it really illegal? 2. Who is selling those bodies? 3. How are we supposed to be good medical students when we can't use cadavers in our lab? I can't ask the lecturer because she's my lecturer! You should know what I mean. |
On Friday morning? and this is what you think we should deliberate about? #Nonsense |
tomasky:You're actually poisoning yourself. Pottasium makes your heart work faster than normal. |
