Wow. Thanks for sharing that, ABAboi. I kinda was expecting such a smooth and nuanced reply from him. What a douche. He still doesn't get the problem, does he. As I said in the OP, yes Nigeria has a lot of things going wrong HOWEVER, there's a difference between stating unbiased facts and spewing political slurs in a derogatory manner. I mean come on! He bluntly said that Nigeria is "the straight-out saddest countr[y] on earth". No matter how he tries to justify that excuse of an article, the damage has been done and has tarnished his image as a football journalist/pundit. I know he couldn't care less but what can I say. . . |

^ Thanks for your insightful input. That really serves the purpose of the thread. ![]() |
@Arkhin Based on such a reaction, I believe you have missed the point of this thread. But it's ok. I'm getting the feeling that you're not going to be the only one. . . @honeric01 Right? Right? |
Hello there, Here's the article in which the football pundit, Jamie Trecker, portrays Nigeria in a very negative fashion: http://msn.foxsports.com/foxsoccer/32countries/story/Nigeria-32-teams-in-32-days Here's a glimpse of what the article reads: Nigeria is a kleptocracy that milks the most populous African nation. Oil wealth has made this massive African nation one of the most dangerous, most corrupt, most impoverished and straight-out saddest countries on earth. Despite billions and billions of dollars in annual oil revenue, virtually none of it reaches the general population, instead lining the pockets of one "big man" after another.I was so disgusted by the way the author of this article presented Nigeria because, although there's a lot of truth behind it, he worded it in such a vile and disrespectful manner, as if his only goal was to get reactions from political fanatics and bigots. Honestly, I'm out of words right now. PS: Just as a reminder, this article is supposed to be from a football blog discussing about the 32 countries participating in the upcoming Fifa World Cup. It's not supposed to be an article about politics! ![]() |
John Utaka out with a cold >>> http://www.kickoff.com/news/15526/utaka-out-with-cold.php Well, I guess this makes it 1 down, 4 to go in contention for the 6th spot for the forward role. ![]() I hope he recovers soon enough though. . . I don't want to sound like a beotch. |
France is in Tignes (mountains - high altitude) A few countries are camping in the Swiss and Austrian mountain sides. |
Yobo made very sensible statements. I'm happy with the itw. I can also understand why he is the Super Eagles (deputy) captain. I wish to see him in action in SA and do Nigeria proud. ![]() |
*bump* ![]() |
The team lacks some spine with the absences of J. Zanetti and Cambiasso. Other than that, yes, Argentina always has a team to be reckoned with. I mean, just take a look at that front line! Also, we need to take a close look at Pastore. Excellent playmaker. |
I guess I should start by telling which shirts are my 5 favourite, and which are my 5 least favourite. Top 5: 1. Cameroon 2. Germany 3. Denmark 4. Switzerland 5. Greece Bottom 5: 1. Australia 2. New Zealand 3. Portugal 4. Slovenia 5. Uruguay Nigeria's home jersey is in my top 10 though. I was once vividly opposed to the jersey (I even created a thread on NL on that ^^') but seeing more recent pics and watching the SE play with it in the latest AFCON made me have a change of heart. Yup. You? |
^ I initially planned on making this thread a poll; however, it appears that we can no longer create polls on NL. ![]() Go figure. . . |

Hello there, It's all in the title. Please share your opinions on the aesthetics of your prefered (and loathed) home shirts of the 32 teams particpating in the Fifa World Cup 2010 held in South Africa. Let's all be moderate in our wordings and respect ourselves. Ty. Lemme kick this off with the teams from groups A and B: Group A (South Africa - Mexico - Uruguay - France) https://i45.tinypic.com/16ab9j8.png https://i47.tinypic.com/s33sxx.png https://i45.tinypic.com/2rdi638.png https://i45.tinypic.com/2wf466b.png Group B (Argentina - Nigeria - South Korea - Greece) https://i47.tinypic.com/98sohy.png https://i50.tinypic.com/9i6bfk.png https://i48.tinypic.com/b9g4xy.png https://i46.tinypic.com/2mc6l9t.png |
The worst part is when you get yeld at because you handed over something with your. . . LEFT hand. Wth? At the PH airport, some security guy asked me - unpleasantly - to hand over my passport. I did so with my left hand and mind you he threw it back at me and shouted at me, in front of my mum. I was 18 at the time. |
toluxa1:If you add either Kalu Uche or Kanu to the equation then yeah, the minimum would be 7 forwards. BUT, as I said in the OP those two are considered as attacking midfielders for Nigeria. I can assure only 6 forwards (2 strikers and 4 wingers) will be on the plane to South Africa. As for Peter Utaka, sure he has had a good season. . . in the Danish League. Nothing to write home about. He is clearly in his 30s and still hasn't been spotted by a club in one of the 5 best European leagues. There's a reason. |
Kgdavid:Both. ![]() But as I said, "no offense". |
I see Nigeria is getting more and more open to queerness. So many dudes dropping comments in this thread. ![]() No, no offense. Just err, just making an. . . observation. Nothing more. I euh, I've made my point. Yup. |
dayokanu:Yes there is. One plays in the EPL for a more than decent side - Everton, whilist the other plays in the French Ligue 1 for a bottom table side with no continental recognition. One has a far better reputation based on the quality he has shown in some important matches whilist the other barely has a rep outside Switzerland. One is more versatile and powerful than the other. Must I continue? Do you need me to clarify who is who in each line? Please. |
^^^ Dropping Anichebe and leaving Ideye in the final team You clearly have a major bias. Oh wait, what's that? 5 of the 7 players you ousted ply their trade in the English Premier League. Talk about a coincidence! |
^^^ Yeah, now I know you don't. But I didn't need to in the 1st place. Why leave such a useless comment and mock my thread? Wtf? Seriously. . . |
rasputinn:I am liking this list. ![]() |
Duke Nukem? |
Try you? Yeeeeaaah, I'll pass. .__. No offense. Sexual orientation and everything. Nice euh, nice invention though. Err, keep up the good work. |
For laughs, for laughs. Epic thread still lives! ![]() I was just about to bump it another 1694 or 1695 times. MUST. STAY. ALIVE. |
Dayum, 12large. You really are a jerk. Are you struggling to get laid or what? Take it easy on the girl. She was only sharing her opinion. Yeah, opinion. You do know what it is, right? Well, nvmd. . . Aiyegbeni, Kanu, Haruna and Kaita https://i47.tinypic.com/207uvs9.png (< oh noes) will all make the final list, all things being equal. Let's bet on that. There will be only ONE surprise call and one surprise cut. I just don't know who yet. Oh, and nah, if Ik Uche is dropped that won't count as a surprise. A disappointment yes, but definitely not a surprise. He isn't match fit. 15 minutes on the pitch all season is nothing to write home about. I hope he proves the whole world wrong though. *fingers crossed* |
For me it is clear; there are 3 indispensable players in the SE squad: Enyeama (GK), Odemwingie (FW) and Mikel (MF). Say what you want, Mikel is one of our major drive-forces for the upcomimg tournament. Yeah, you just watch. ![]() |
@honeric01 Nah, Uche aint match fit. He didn't play the last 2 matches of the season with Zaragoza. He only played for 15 minutes during his team's 3rd to last match of the season. The dude is definitely not match fit. You must have mistaken his stats with his bro's, Kalu. He has had more regular action. @Gekko Good choice. ![]() |
^^^ Yes, Ik Uche at FULL POTENTIAL (match fitness and what not) can definitely do better than Obasi. But I will never pick Peter Utaka ahead of Obasi. And yes, I've seen P. Utaka play a few times so my judgment isn't biased. . . I think. ![]() |
^^^ No Obasi? Yeeeeeaaah, not going to happen. He's still one of our most prolific goalscorers this season, and he isn't even a center forward. So, no, honeric01. Just no. Good, good try though. |
