I'm sure that in 2014, FIFA will take away 2 places from the useless CAF authorities and give to South America and Oceana.
Nope. Africa still has its 5 spots >>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(CAF)

South America will have 4.5 spots plus hosts Brazil.
SportsRe: Will African Team Qualify For Next Round? by Iyineda(m): 3:40pm On Jun 18, 2010
Ghana can even qualify tomorrow if they beat Australia. So they are Africa's greatest hope as we speak. However, I they fail to send the socceroos packing, then their fate will be similar to those of SA, Naija and Cameroon. CIV are also in a good enough position to qualify. They must cling to a draw or a narrow defeat to Brazil and dispose of North Korea convincingly - not a given, I know. . .

Algeria are as good as done if you ask me.

To all the killjoys out there,

THIS THREAD IS SUPPOSED TO BE READ WITHOUT 1ST DEGREE BLINDS ON! It was the result of a match which caused a huge upset mixed with sorrow and rage. The OP isn't seriously comparing Sani Kaita, a mallam footballer, to a confirmed international terrorist, Farouk AbdulMuttalab; nor are a great deal of people leaving comments just for the "fun" of it.

Way to piss people off and use the so-obsolete "This is why Nigeria is a failure" yadiyada bullcrap. Go into politics if you want to contribute to a change in the country. Don't come here on a social board to moralize and bag people into one fvcked up stereotype/generalization.

A bons entendeurs. . .

PS: Sani Kaita's moment of sheer madness contributed to an evening full of lols for my peeps and I on facebook yesterday. cool

SportsRe: Nigeria Vs Argentina: [0 - 1] On June 12, 2010 @ World Cup by Iyineda(m): 6:16pm On Jun 12, 2010
Player ratings:

- Enyeama: 9.5/10 ; Simply WORLD CLASS.

- Odiah: 5.5 ; His poor passing intercepted by Messi lead to the corner kick which led to Argentina's goal. He showed some promising attacking moves and good anticipation.

- Yobo: 7 ; He had a very, very good game. Solid at the back. Probably one of his best displays in recent times.

- Shittu: 5.5 ; Started slow and shaky. Peaked at the beginning of the 2nd half. Had a decent run up into the Argentine half. But still not very reliable.

- Taiwo: 6 ; Held his own against Messi in a few occasions. Had a decent game despite a few slow defensive recoveries before his injury.

- Kaita: 6 ; Another proof that this man is a vital piece of Lagerback's gameplan. Very versatile and dynamic, although his ball control and composure are underwhelming.

- Etuhu: 5.5 ; He was imperial and lacklustre at the same time. He had his moments but gave away the ball too many times. Huge lack of self-confidence when in possession of the ball.

- Haruna: 6 ; I would have loved to see him get a clearer chance to shoot on goal. He had a presence in the midfield in the 1st 30 minutes of the game then slowly faded off. Picked up a bit during the last 20 but his efforts were too forceful. He has a future with the team, that's for sure!

- Obasi: 6 ; The most dangerous Super Eagle during the 1st half. His end product was dire. Expect more from him.

- Nsofor: 5.5 ; Pressed the Argentine defence constantly. He didn't find space despite all his efforts.

- Yakubu: 6.5 ; You will only show that you are a hater if you still consider that the Yak has nothing to do in this squad. He was very resourceful today. He pressed the defence, he bullied, he ran out into space, he challenged and succeeded 1-on-1 situations against defenders (Gutierrez and Demichelis, The Yak says hi). Definitely deserved a goal with his left footed effort late in the game.

-----------------------

- Martins: N/A ; He showed his agility and tremendous pace. Had a shot or two on goal. Created more chances for the Super Eagles.

- Odemwingie: N/A ; I believe this is the 1st match I've seen such an uninspiring performance from Osaze with the Naija jersey. A disappointment. Wasted a counter-attacking opportunity. But I'm not writing him off. He just had a bad day (I hope).

- K. Uche: N/A ; Wonderful skills on the right flank but unfortunately unforgivably he squandered the best chance of the day for Nigeria.

- Lars Lagerback: 7 ; He made good changes which gave hope for improvement in the 2nd half. I expect a more upbeat approach from his side against Greece.

My prefered lineup against Greece:

                        1
                    Enyeama
                  2           22
  17          Yobo     Adeleye          3
Odiah                                      Taiwo*
                  14              15
      11       Kaita        Haruna     19
  Osaze                                  Obasi
                   9          8
               Martins   Yakubu

* If Taiwo is still injured then Echiejile should replace him.

R. Song should do himself a favour and bow out before it's too late. He still has a few hours before the point of no return.

SportsRe: Brilliant Eagles Outclass North Korea by Iyineda(m): 6:29pm On Jun 07, 2010
Nice work, jencejyde. smiley

Here's how I'd have rated the team:

- Attack: 6.5/10
Started very well but after the 1st goal slowed play, too laid back, almost toothless at the end of the 1st half and beginning of the 2nd.

- Midfield: 7/10
Haruna and Etuhu did a good job, especially defensively, which gave the central defence less work to do; but our midfield lacked enough juice to go forward and some passes were too inaccurate.

- Defence: 4/10
Not the most reassuring area in this team. Very shaky and undecisive (Yobo). Seemed to lack pace (Shittu). Afolabi gave a bit of hope in the 2nd part of the 2nd half.

Overall performance was just satisfactory. Not more, not less. I saw more signs of a strong team in the match against Colombia. Lars should build on that dynamic. wink

My prefered formation and lineup against Argentina:

                  Enyeama

           Yobo          Shittu
Odiah                                 Taiwo

             Etuhu  Haruna
  Kaita                             Nsofor

             Osaze  Yakubu

My prefered formation and lineup against Greece & South Korea:

                  Enyeama

           Yobo          Shittu
Odiah                                 Taiwo

             Etuhu  Haruna

jalether:
Great formation. Except I will replace Etuhu for Uche and play Kaita as the deep lying defensive midfielder in a 4-3-3 set up smiley.

Against the Argies, a more defensive formation suited for counter attacking footie will have to be deployed. the midfield should be

                                             Kaita                     Etuhu

                                                           Haruna
I keep saying this but there will be no 4-3-3 formation with Lars at the WC. He has used it 3 times in a row now and will stick to it due to lack of time.
The SE will play with two central midfielders: one with the more defensive/destroyer role (Etuhu) and one with the more attacking/holding role (Haruna).
The only huuuuge question mark for me is our right flank. Kaita is ok but he doesn't have that natural attacking flair to create chances down the wing. Obasi or Osaze should occupy that spot.

As for the central defense pair, it is certainly going to be Yobo and Shittu - all things remaining equal.
SportsRe: Nigeria Vs North Korea Friendly On June 6, 2010: 3 - 1 by Iyineda(m): 7:24pm On Jun 06, 2010
@jalether
Guys what's your prediction on lars preferred starting X1 for the WC
Enyeama

           Yobo          Shittu
Odiah                                 Taiwo

             Etuhu  Haruna
Osaze                             Nsofor

            Martins  Yakubu

Although I strongly believe he will play Kaita on the right flank and kick Martins to the bench. The SE will adopt a defensive/counter attacking game plan against the Argies. I predict some frustration for us up front. .
