raumdeuter: Even with loans you still need someone with vision to implement and make it impactful. You cannot tell me taking a loan to build 2nd Niger bridge has the same impact as taking a loan to build a flyover in Gbongan
What is the economic advantage the project gives vs the loans taken. I have listed two options from this discussion. Which is it? And 2nd Niger bridge is not the only project that he borrowed. Benin/Ore expressway was built with loans. There is no toll gate there. So how will the road pay for the loan? Odofa to Badagry Roundabout is being built with loan. How will the project pay for itself, since it is not tolled? |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 3:34pm On Mar 17, 2023 |
raumdeuter: How we spend the debt acquired is the problem. Economy needs certain infrastructure to move. You cannot be seeing containers stuck in Apapa daily and think that is productive for the economy or seeing the road traffic gridlock on old Niger bridge and think that should continue
Getting loans to do mundane things like flyover bridge over an area with little economic activity is the waste Then we don't need Tinubu,Atiku or Obi to rule. Just anybody that can access loans and build infrastructure is fine for a president, since he doesn't need to strategise on how we can reduce borrowing and generate more. The money Buhari borrowed in the last two years is twice what he has borrowed since 2015. I don't even know the achievement exactly: The fact that he borrowed to build infrastructure (basic knowledge 101) or The fact that he didn't steal the borrowed funds (We have become worse in the global corruption index since he came) |

That's the trick now, even Wike used during the last days of his government. Borrow money, build white elephant projects and corner 50% of the released amount.
People dont know that Buhari is the smartest their in this country. Imagine stealing and people praising you for incorruptibility. That's grande. The same people hailing the borrowings would come tomorrow and tell us how Nigeria is laddened with debt, how we spend 80% of our earnings on debt servicing, how this country cant be redeemed, blah blah blah Tomorrow, they'll defend borrowing again and call it a Masterclass move If a man like me can be confused about what Nigerians want, I wonder how confused the heavens will be |

Anybody can borrow to build including you. Till now, i still try to understand how this is an achievement. GloriousGbola: i am not sure of this.
what i believe is happening is that a lot of informal tax is a black hole that goes into some peoples pockets
i drive a pickup with commercial plates. this means i have to pay local govt fees yearly. there are two or three fees paid mid year. unlike vehicle license - these have to be paid at local govt. you can pay your vehicle license in a bank. but these local govt charges - they are going straight into the pockets of the task force.
there are a lot of taxes collected from artisans, hawkers etc - that are also going straight to pockets and not to govt.
even with businesses - there are often complaints from workers that tax was deducted from their payslip, but no evidence of tax payment Not true. The tax base in Nigeria is unbelievably low. Even to the point of ridiculousness. Both the formal sector and informal sector are not being captured adequately for tax purposes |

obainojazz: If I employ 5 drivers on 100k salary… They should pay PIT no matter how much they give to Local government boys.
I worked in a tank farm back in naija and believe me, the 4000 Naira gets added as business expense… what should be taxed is the driver’s earnings Your argument with prosper was that many people don't pay tax. And i am showing you that the problem, in my opinion is that a lot of taxes are unaccounted for. 4000 daily as tax means the person is earning 40,000 a day. How many Nigerians earn that daily? Our politicians will always post data as proof that few people pay tax, but then, there is a lot more of unaccounted tax going through the back door |
