In August, Emiefele cried that NNPC was not remitting dollars into FG foreign reserves. NNPC said they need the dollars to continue to fund subsidy.
What does President want to do in this kind of situation except for the suicidal needful - ending fuel subsidy?
That's why you will never get any real answer from any candidate in terms of specific actions they intend to carry out to fix Nigeria because there are none.
In another 4 years time, you will see people begging for another saviour like they did in 2011 when Otuoke man without shoes was the saviour and 2015 when Sai Baba with only 20 cows was the saviour.
The only way to save Nigeria is to break it up, not shouting emilokan or Egyptian statistics upandan. Donjazet2: I said he would cut the cost of governance and bring better transparency to our institutions, going by his own antecedents in office.
Nass is just an aspect, there are other areas where he would do that that would be very impactful. Slash the salaries and amoluments of government appointees. Ministers, head of parastatals etc who inflate bonuses and contracts. Stories like amaechi awarding contract to an unknown company or aliases, bloated ministerial budgets, bloated villa budgets etc.
These are areas where impacts of cost of governance will be felt. As for nass budget, Obi has said that there is something called political will, that if he leads by example, others will be bound to follow. If the populace sees that the presidency is pulling all stops to actively reduce the cost of governance, that create optical pressure on the national assembly members. Secondly, the labour party is going to have some elected members of assembly, senators and house of rep that will form a caucus or coalition that leads the charge in the house for a slashing of bloated budgets and salaries. This coupled with public pressure and executive pressure is bound to have an effect on nass' budget.
Also the strengthening of the efcc that enables it actually do itd job and go after corrupt public officials.
One of obi's selling point is his relative integrity. Tinubu and atiku simply can't use anticorruption as a selling point. You see that none of his supporters is even bordering about this. That tells you all you need to know. Yes, that is his selling point for me. But you of all people should know better. You campaigned for Buhari in 2015 with this same selling point. Or did you vet any of Buhari's plans, if not that he could not afford the form and he was using sachet Milo and milk? A man without a plan cannot go far. Whether he be a thief, or a Pope. I hope you won't curse Obi if he fails. |

chrisooblog: Chief the NASS is just a very tiny tip of the corruption iceberg that we have in Nigeria.
Even if you scrap the budget of NASS (which the president has no power to do anyway) it still won't solve Nigeria's financial problems. I read somewhere that what Nigeria currently makes from crude oil is not even up to the Pennsylvania budget for a year. So when we say we have a revenue problem is not just some empty government sloganeering.
The amount of money that will cater to Nigeria's infrastructure deficit I'm not sure we even make 5% of it hence borrowing.
Yes reducing corruption and plugging loopholes are welcome but we have things that need to be fixed now now which requires huge amounts of money. I am just asking him, since he is assured that Obi will cut excesses from NASS. Maybe he can tell me how a president has any power to effect that change. And the revenue problem is why i don't rate Buhari one bit |

chrisooblog: There might be risks but State police or a more empowered regional police setup is the way to go.
Something along the lines of the civilian JTF in Borno could be useful in most State's were funds to train and equip a formal security force is lacking.
In the short term as much as it pains us a form of amnesty should be considered to remove most of the trouble makers who got into terrorism/insurgency because of economic reasons. Hopefully this will reduce the number of insurgents to a few stubborn ones that can be contained and handled.
Government at the centre also needs to give the states more freedom to buy adequate weapons to equip their various security groups.
The blunt truth however is if whoever becomes president doesn't urgently fix the economy so more people can be employed and financially bouyant enough to take care of their families the numbers of disgruntled and frustrated people would overwhelm whatever security arrangement no matter how novel. Your suggestion sits well with me. I was just trying to counter the fact that we shouldn't waste that much resources on corpers that wont stay beyond one year. Will daily complaints effect any change? Even many of those based overseas support a candidate in the upcoming elections.

You are asking about funds. Nnpc just said they remmited zero money to Nigeria's account, is it that they didn't earn money? Do you know that the world is actually experiencing an oil boom right now?
CORRUPTION IS OUR NUMBER ONE PROBLEM. If there wasn't corruption in Nnpc, or there was a shred of accountability, they will remit the trillions of naira they're supposed to. Obi has also spoken about cutting cost of governance, at least to the fullest extent of his executive powers, that can boost a further 15% to the nation's coffers if executed well, trimming or merging some redundant ministry's and exorbitant executive costs.
But no leave it to izzuo to regale us with daily complaints while looking very hopeless and being useless to practical actions taken to change things.
Here is the current amount used for feeding the presidents family alone, antecedents show that Obi will cut this drastically. This is not an Agenda, I do have time for lengthy discourse on this one. Let's make it brief please. The government found a way to reduce the gap in the teaching force, by telling corpers to go there. It may not be the best option, but it has some form of effectiveness. It is absolutely better than nothing. A corper has a tertiary form of education, so it is assumed that he can handle the primary and secondary. Yes he may not be qualified, but the necessary knowledge can be transferred. The government didn't train you in the uni, but they can use your service in one year for some stipends. You can't compare it with insecurity. Nobody was trained to kill in the uni or poly. So the government would have to spend resources training a corper to handle armour (and he will leave in one year oh). Isn't it better to use that same resource to training someone for life? |

Where I served, we were just two Corp Members in the whole school....and that was 2013 in Oyo State.
Corp Members are not trained to teach, they can't give what they don't have. They are expected to complement, not taking over from trained, professional Teachers.
