DissTroy: Yes, you've seen 4 games so far in this Fifa World Cup, and Qatar 2022 promises to be everything and more. But today the god of football descends from his throne to show us mortals what perfection feels like.
Today football's greatest ever player steps on the pitch. Today Lionel Messi plays. Lord have mercy https://i.imgflip.com/2149q6.gif |

iamoyindamola: As budweiser ever supply into Qatar before So budwesier didn't know qatar law on alcohol since they were given the right to host the WC Is qatar suppose to openly shout out loud since 2016 before they all know the law You are saying it like qatar just started this law today or they should bend the law just because of some people for 26 days. So what happen after 26 days, they will now start afresh to rebuild what have been built for a long time
This is becoming a witch hunt, the fact that majority doesn't even have valid excuse is annoying Well, Budweiser has a sponsorship contract with FIFA, not Qatar. They pay FIFA to have their brand advertised, sell their products or souvenirs. It's sponsorship campaign in exchange for marketing What is Budweiser's business with who is hosting it? |

Donjazet2: I know that some abroadians still cling to parts of their culture but I'm saying that for most, it's just farcical at best.
It's very practical to adapt to your new surrounding than clinging unto your old identity. A001 did not address my question adequately. I'm asking him what is really the importance of one's cultural identity and he's yet to be downright specific. Your identity is you. That's who you are. The beauty of the world is in its diversity. That i can go to Jamaica and see a different culture; I can go to Jalingo and understand another culture. Culture is a way of life. Even the Westernization you want us to adopt, is someone's culture. The difference in the way we live and think is what makes life beautiful, and i wouldn't want that to be traded for anything I even find it funny that people change their surnames. Some remove their surname, and give their name to their kids. Your culture is who you are |

Donjazet2: Okay, very good that you've started being a bit specific, now you mentioned language being a key part of culture. Now remember that my first question was; as an Igbo man, why is my Igbo identity important? You've replied that culture is as important as breathing, it's something we can't do without, that If I'm not igbo, then I'm definitely adopting another person's language.
To which I will now ask you, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT?? I mean, I imagine that Nigerians having a common language like English, even though it's not any of our indigenous language, has been much better for all of us, I mean here we are, both communicating, speaking and writing in English and being better for it, our cultural identity (language) playing zero roll whatsoever.
I mean, many cultures have been lost to time and we (the human race) are still waxing strong. Is anything wrong with all of humanity losing the very different aspects of culture and adopting a unifying culture or identity??
I imagine that many normal abroadians here have entirely adopted their new culture and have shed most of their old cultural identity and are thriving because of this. They speak the language of their host country, they eat the meals that are indigenous to their host country, they dress in the attire of their host country, I mean for the most part, they've shed all shreds of their African identity and I ask you, is anything wrong with that? I don't think so, sir. A good number of abroadians still practice their culture, over there. Remember where Ekweremadu was lynched in Germany? It was a cultural festival Most abroadians prefer to come in July for my village festival than December sef For me, i just against some of the babaric practices of culture. Identity is important, but we need to get rid of some of the inhumane practices in the name of "culture". |

tng: This is false equivalence in my opinion. wearing head covering is a religious injunction. being LGBTQ or wanting to drink beer is not. So if a muslim girl is deprived of wearing her head covering at USA 26 then yes! it is discrimination. She therefore has the choice of going through with the rules and attending the tournament or staying home. Like many have stated here, all this is perfomative. If the West were so concerned they should have staged a boycott. That makes a louder statement than any armbands or statements. I am not concerned if anybody wants to make a loud statement. I just find it weird that people are putting up a defence for Qatar because it's their country. And i have discovered that it is because LGBTQ is involved; that's something almost all of us don't want to be a part of (including me). But defending Qatar for confining the world to their laws in a World event is very ridiculous But i know what goes around, comes around; tomorrow it could be about race, beliefs, religion, or any other factor. I hope we keep up this energy, especially when it doesn't favour us |

iamoyindamola: Because of situations like this is the reason qatar warned them to obey or don't come at all I mean how hard can that be, why can't they just concentrate on football
Why is no one blaming seun for that tag on islam thread, he gave everyone going to that thread a condition The WC is not Qatar's property. Qatar did not invent the tournament, neither do they have sole rights to organize a World Cup. It has no relationship with Nairaland Football is a Western invention, and it comes with all vices; If you know you can't accept all cultures and beliefs of the World, you have no business hosting it. Let me ask you....Assuming the US bans Muslims for wearing hijab in USA 26. Who will you call inconsiderate? 1) The US, for depriving a Muslim girl from watching, knowing the fact that its her culture and beliefs 2) Or the Muslim girl for not removing her Hijab for 28 days? |
