IamRx: Elders in the house.. I think I am here at the right time.
I work in a bank, been there for over 3years as an outsourced staff. Salary has never been more than 65k.
I work Mondays to Fridays, leave home 5am get home 7-8pm as the case may be. Sometimes I do weekends(ATM monitoring).
As it stands, there is no assurance of salary review, staff conversion or promotion.
Now an uncle offered me a direct tokunbo 2005 corolla for 2.7m on HP to give him weekly return of 25k or monthly return of 100k till I offset this 2.7m.
Is it advisable to take this car and go into ehailing. Again if I take the car, knowing that I need to give monthly remittances, how do I meet up when the job does not afford me time. Can I meet this monthly target?
Or do I quit my job and go into ehailing full-time while pursuing professional certification or do I just stay on my job and hope things "might" change? Learn the ropes, and take the car. It's a good deal

You still said you sell clothes as a side hustle, compared to your accounting career that doesn't bring anything tangible
Someone asked you to resign then and you said No, you're in it for self development

Uber/bolt pays one of the best hourly rate in the country. So tell me why can’t one take it as a full time hustle?
No employer will fault you for putting uber/bolt as an experience on your CV. They’ll only just overlook it if it’s not relevant to them. There are ways you’d construct the CV narrating the JD.

ajoks533: No one is being emotional Sir. However, I am only trying to drive home some points. Some take driving as side hustle while others take it as a full time business. It's just an individual thing.
No let's look at it this way, we are all striving to make ends meet through whatever legitimate way we can afford to make that happen. Hence, we venture into different trades, starting with the courses we were offered at the university, which might even not be the dream course we wanted to do, but for not wasting time at home, we decided to take on those courses and graduate with whatever results we got, landed a job we could with the result and got paid as much as we could get.
Now, if we decide tomorrow to seek for alternative/side hustle which can complement or supplement what we earn from our current job, do you feel it will be bad to quit the former job and go full-time into the one we see as side hustle?
Like I said, it's an individual thing. You have your dreams and aspirations, others have theirs. Mine might be that I want to become a great I.T professional known globally, the other person might just want to be known as a billionaire, also known globally. So I might see uber as a means to getting financial support to sponsor my professional courses in ICT, whereas someone else will be thinking on how to improve on the services uber offer and use that to develop his own platform.
The sister who is an accountant can have a breakthrough in the clothing line and decide to further her trade in that line of and quit her job if she sees a better prospect and income flow in that line of business, especially if she feels she also has this thing for fashion and designing.
Well, we are all here to learn and contribute. What do I know? (in the voice of radautoworks) You are explaining all what was said before
If you go to Lagos Island(Oke Arin), and you see those old women who carry loads on their head. If you tell the woman that she can earn a better living instead of carrying this, have you insulted her hustle?
Uber is really good. A life saver. Uber has helped me in the past. But if someone tells me "izzóu, let's think of an idea that will help us make more money on uber and we will drive less", what is wrong in that?
Do you understand my view now? |

You wash dishes, do laundry. It is a never ending cycle. You do a design for three hours, you get paid 350k. You do housework for three hours, you get nothing.
You quickly learn about directing energy into what actually brings in money. I didn't expect this discussion to get to this extent. But then.... |

Stop thinking with your ass. Zidane’s efforts are not unnoticeable but having good players and a solid team help. Let Zidane take over this current Tottenham (or another team in transition) and see if he’ll win a spoon.
Luís Enrique has never won a trophy before. He came to Barca and won the league. And the Copa del Rey. And the champions league.
Stop thinking with your ass.hole. And before Zidane came, why didn't the previous coach win it back to back?
And after Enrique left, why hasn't any Barcelona coach won the treble?
My point is... Stop imagining people will fail because they haven't had the chance to coach a "big" club.
Lampard is doing fine with Chelsea despite a transfer ban. Yet his biggest coaching job before Chelsea was Derby county
Stop assuming with emotions. Poch is a good coach, and he's obviously better than OGS. |

Epphy: The issue really is perceptions, opinions and decisions.
Perceptions - People read deeper meanings to Nitigriti's post. I did not read much into it until I saw counter-posts. He probably did not attempt to talk down people's hustle.
Opinions - we all have different opinions which every human being need to respect. One can't force people to accept what you believe. Just talk and people that you influence will see you have a point(s).
Decisions - some have decided to do the hustle and make it big through it. If that's their decision, I believe they have their reasons. I don't think anyone has a right to make them feel they are dump and their decision is stupid. People can decide to change their decisions based on situation changes.
NB: this is not directed at anyone in particular but based on my opinion and inference drawn.
On being defensive and emotional, we are humans. Such happens when people don't want to look at contrary opinions. True talk bro
Some plan to make it through it, while for some, it's a phase

Leyqute: Dude. Forget all these your talk na okoto meow skrrr yarns
Poch Poch Poch. Do you know what coaching big teams like Utd and Liverpool entail?
Can you even imagine the pressure that is on you to win EVERY game? EVERY single game. And it doesn’t matter if you win games or not, you get criticized.
Mou was scraping by the other season, winning 3 points by the whiskers and he was heavily slated because the wins were not emphatic and the performance wasn’t top notch.
Poch ‘enjoyed’ the Tottenham job, there wasn’t a spotlight on him and he wasn’t expected to win every game.
He has been awful since last season yet no one is talking about it. Let United lose against Sheffield this weekend and see how every news column will be saying there is a disaster at the club.
Do you people even comprehend how big that Utd role is? Poch may succeed if he comes to Utd but it’s more likely he won’t be an instant success like you’ve been preaching. He could fall flat on his face and fail miserably because the pressure will be much.
So, stop all these okoto meow skrrr yarns. Remind me how many big teams Zidane coached before he won the UCL back to back with Madrid

ajoks533: Brotherly, I have few questions to ask you. 1. Does driving on uber or any other platform pay? 2. Is it a legitimate source of income? 3. Does the money gotten from driving equal or lower than the basic minimum wage in Nigeria? 4. Are people doing well from the income it generates? 5. Let me stop here
Plz do answer these questions, then I will tell you what I feel about this side hustle, despite say I never start up yet. Let me even help you a little. Vulcanising, Bus conductors, Danfo drivers all fulfill the conditions to your questions... But it seems we just want to get emotional and miss the point from the beginning
The challenge was to channel our energy to alternate models that will be better than driving. What is wrong with that? Or is uber driving the "best job" on earth? Aren't there 1001 jobs that are far more better than this?
I don't know why we all are acting so defensively as if someone touched a nerve.
I have a friend (not on nairaland) that I introduced to uber driving. Recently, he told me he's stopping this December. I asked why. He told me he needs to pursue his career in Procurement and whatever... That the driving isn't giving him time to chase that dream.
