Day 02

It's been two days worth of surviving nofap. I've had 3 consecutive days of strong urges, which I've managed to ignore. I did the final edit of my Guide To Surviving Nofap, and published it.

I've been writing daily, while most of my other projects are in limbo, but at least I'm making progress somewhere.

I might write an article detailing what to expect during a reboot. There's a lot of crazy stuff that happens;

Withdrawal symptoms

Headaches

Blue balls

Insomnia

Flat lines etc

Some of these happenings can make you feel like you're going through hell, but if you hold on they eventually fade away. See you tomorrow people, keep staying strong and moving on.

6. Change of environment

Looking back at my life, I've found out that good things happen to me when I take a break and go on vacation. I started my last successful reboot streak a day before my vacation, and I'll say the change of environment helped.

You don't have to go on a vacation to utilize this. It can be something as simple as getting out of the house, and taking a walk when you have an urge. That gets your mind off fapping and kills the urge. You're not going to fap on the street now, are you?.

7. Learn a new skill

There's no rule that says that you can't complete a reboot, while you're unemployed, doing nothing all day, and living in your Mama's house. But, it's advisable to find some productive activity to engage yourself in, during the reboot period. Getting rid of addictions leaves vacuums in our lives, and it would be ideal to fill these vacuums with something positive.

What's that thing you always wanted to do, but never had the time to do. Playing the guitar?, writing a book?, roller skating, etc. Now's a good time to put some work in. As for me I'll be writing, drawing, and reading everyday during the reboot.

Once upon a time I used the internet to download endless porn, and fap my brains out. Now, I'm writing about PMO and using the same internet to the message across. Talk about a change.

Conclusion

So, that's it. 7 tips on taking on a reboot and surviving to the end. If you know any other tips, that can make a reboot sail smoother, kindly share them with us. 5. Failure is not the end

A lot of people picture the path to success as a straight road. The truth is, it's actually like a zig zag, twisted by the failures you made while walking down the path. Those who push on despite the failures, are the ones who make it to the finish line.

Between this post and the very first on the thread, I've relapsed and restarted the reboot process more times than I can care to count. I failed over and over again, I lost hope and I regained it. Despite all that happened I'm still here, and I'm counting my days.

During the reboot process, there's a chance that you might relapse. If you do relapse, you should know that it's not the end. Reset your counter and pick up from where you left off.

Relapsing once is not an excuse to throw your head in the air and binge for a month. That serves no purpose other then to set you back severely.

In the mind of many successful people, failure is only feedback. Of you failed at your reboot, then you should pause and reflect on it. Figure out what you did right, and what you did wrong. Correct you wrongs and go at it again.

As far as know, these 5 today the building blocks of a successful reboot. But, there are other strategies that could be used to make the process easier. For example you could consider a

3. Identify your triggers

Now that you've deleted your porn stash, and are probably rejoicing at all the free memory space you now have. It's time to embark on what I think is a crucial step of the reboot process. It's time to identify and catalog your triggers.

What are triggers?, you might ask. Triggers are stimuli, those things that you see, hear, feel or think about that gives you an urge to watch porn or masturbate.


Now, it's time for an exercise. Get some writing materials, and look back to the times you fapped, as many times as you can remember. What were you seeing, or thinking of, before you decide to look for porn or fap.

Catalog as many of these triggers as you can, and become aware of them. Knowing your triggers is absolutely important because, if you're aware of you triggers, then you can

4. Avoid the slippery slope

As I've said before on this thread, we don't fap out of the blue. Something triggers us and we act on that urge, and end up viewing porn and masturbating. Eg,

1. I'm bored

2. I go online without a purpose

3. I remember a porn site I saw last week

4. I tell myself I'll take a quick peek

5. 4 hours later I've visited 6 sites and downloaded 15 videos

6. Fap time

7. I bust a nut and feel guilty after

8. Dopamine kicks in powering the chaser effect

9. I fap again

10. The cycle repeats


Taking the example above, all I had to do to avoid the scenario pictured there, was to address the first step, the trigger. Boredom is a major trigger for PMO, and if I had spent the time engaging in a productive activity that interests me, I wouldn't have had the time to wander aimlessly on the internet.

If you did the exercise from the previous step and outlined your triggers, look at your list and devise ways to counter each trigger. If being bored urges you to fap, find a hobby that interests you and entertain yourself with it.

If you being alone at home all day cause you to fap, then you should get out of the house. Go visit friends, join a social circle, a sports club etc. Something that gets you out of the house and keeps you busy.

If you can take note of and beat the triggers of an addiction, then you can beat that addiction.

Guide To Surviving Nofap

If you're reading this, I'm assuming you've hit rock bottom. Even if you haven't, now is a good time to consider turning your life around. The first step to overcoming any addiction is

1. To become aware of the fact that you're an addict

Some addicts live in denial of reality. Which is not odd, because the brain often find ways of rationalizing destructive behavior, especially when said behaviour is addictive. Denying that you're addicted isn't going to make your life anyway better, and if you're saying that porn is just a habit. Then remember that every addiction starts out as a little habit. A little today, a little tomorrow, and the next thing you know you're hooked. In order to solve a problem, you must first realize that the problem exists. So, make that realization.

2. Get rid of your stash

In the early days of trying to quit porn, I often put myself in a dangerous loop. I was under the delusion that trying Nofap with 1 GB worth of porn was a good idea, because that would make the reboot more challenging. In all those cases having porn served no other purpose other than offering a shortcut to a relapse. If you're planning to succeed on Nofap. You're going to have to keep porn and porn substitutes away from you. What do I mean by porn substitutes?.

These are materials which are technically not porn, but trigger the same response as watching porn. These substitutes can get you aroused and triggered to watch actual porn. For example, you've got no business whatsoever surfing bikini models on Instagram while on Nofap. Checking the Facebook profile of every cute girl on your brother's friend list is out of the question too.

Some hardcore nofappers even unplug themselves from the internet during the reboot period. So, if you've got a stash of porn hanging around somewhere on your devices. Get rid of it now!
