Admission really depends on the quality of applicants. For your course, petroleum geology, there are a lot of quality applicants every year. But i still believe that you can get admitted by including your I.T experience, a good recommendation letter from your professor and last but not the least prayers (this should even come first). A friend over here told me of his friend with a 1st class that wasn't admitted to offshore technology (subsea).

I will give you one secret: If you are hell bent on coming to Norway, you can take a risk and apply for the master program in environmental technology (offshore) because they have less applicants here compared to petroleum geology. When you come here, you can likely switch to petroleum geology if some students that were initially admitted to the geology program fail to come for whatever reasons.

@ Ezegozie It is very possible to get a job while studying and after studies. the problem is that your course is very competitive. I hope you are graduating with a 1st class or at least a very high 2.1.

The answer to your first question is no. To be very honest what the employers look at is PhD and teaching experience. PhD with no teaching experience is likely to land someone in lecturer 2 and if lucky lecturer 1.

How did you manage to write 6 papers and have 2 published internationally without being in the university system? Did you write them during your masters program?

@p.desmond Have you been able to secure a part time job in the Netherlands? What kind of part-time jobs are available for students there? Is the job climate there favourable for graduates? I have really noticed that the language helps a lot in getting both part-time jobs and full-time jobs but it is highyly possible to achieve the both of the type of jobs without knowing the language. I was in this same NBC recruitment process earlier this year. We were more than 2000 that wrote the test but about 30+ passed in which I was among. Then came the interview, which I answered all their questions and was very confident of making it for the second test, but the interviewer kept emphasizing on my inability to speak Hausa (He asked and I confidently told him NO! I felt I did so well to be placed in Abuja). To my surprise I wasn't called for the second test. Guys who made it told me that the pay is about 120k with transport allowance and free medical care (can you kindly confirm this for me). A guy I know told me they asked him if he minds been posted to Kaduna, he said no--he lost the job.

The only way this thing sounds like a dilemma is if he is scared of forgoing his passion, because if it is about money, then he better take that job. But I am very sure it is about his passion.

@4tunebest The grade required to study for PhD in most european countries is at least 70% MSc grade. In some cases 80%. But you can keep on applying because anything is possible.
