With balkanization, independence and massive awareness, for you to measure up, you must have many major minerals without depending heavily on other countries for their resources. USA, RUSSIA, CHINA, TURKEY have relatively high dependence on their resources hence can boost. Can you compare Roman Empire of old, Greek Empire, etc to today's superpowers? Don't forget the we once had Zulu Empire, El Kanami Empire, Benin Empire, Ottoman Empire etc of old but where are they now? Africa have the potential of overtaking some of European powers/France in particular but bad leadership won't make us believe.
