He obtained his M.sc at the University of Port Harcourt in 1985 and he was a Lecturer at the Dept. Of Biology, Rivers State College of Education, Port Harcourt from 1983 – 1993. How did that work? he was lecturing at one university while studying to obtain an M.sc in another university.

The Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, arrested and repatriated 430 illegal immigrants in Jigawa State between January and November 2014, the service said.
The service also said its personnel seized temporary and permanent Nigerian voter cards from nationals of Niger who entered Nigeria illegally.

A Gudu Upper Area Court in the FCT, on Wednesday ordered that two men, Anthony Umeh, 26, and Jacob Michael, 25, be remanded in prison for allegedly stabbing a man’s right eye.

Umeh of Phigba Kasa Village, Abuja and Michael of Wumba Village, Apo, Abuja, are being tried for criminal conspiracy, trespass, attempt to commit culpable homicide and theft.

The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko who gave the order, said that the accused should be brought back to court on Dec. 15 for consideration of their bail application.

Kagarko adjourned the case till Jan. 28 for further hearing and ordered the police to verify the victim’s condition and also present the medical report to the court.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Edet told the court that Mohammed Idris of Behind first transformer, Wumba Community, Apo, Abuja reported the matter at the Apo Police Station on Nov. 28.

Edet said that the accused persons and others at large, conspired among themselves, armed with cutlasses and knives and trespassed into the complainant’s house.

He said the accused persons met one of the complainant’s brothers, Saddam Abdulrahaman and stabbed him with a knife in his right eye.

According to him, the accused persons inflicted various degrees of machete cuts all over Abdulrahaman’s head and he collapsed.

Edet also said that the accused persons ran away and left Abdulrahaman in a pool of his blood, thinking he was dead.

He said that the accused persons also stole a laptop and television set from the said house.

Edet stated that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 97, 348, 229 and 288 of the Penal Code.

He told the court that some members of the accused group were on the run, and releasing the accused on bail would tamper with police investigations, adding that the victim is still in the hospital

The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen has revealed how his ministry saved N11 billion which was fraudulently built into a single road contract by the contractors and corrupt ministry officials.

According to a statement by the Deputy Director (Information) in his ministry, Mr Theodore Ogaziechi, Onolememen spoke during the 2014 International Anti-Corruption Day yesterday, adding that the corrupt officials hide such frauds under ‘’project augmentation.’’

Onolememen said that the project augmentation policy had been used over the years by some engineers in the ministry to rip off the nation through connivance with contractors, pointing further that ‘’this unwholesome exercise has since been nipped in the bud since the inception of this administration.’’

He said, ‘’N11billion was retrieved from a fraudulent road contract transaction when some officials wrote for re-billment of a particular project,’’ noting also that the stoppage of the practice was one of the policies of President Goodluck Jonathan aimed at stamping out corruption in the road sector.

‘’When Project Augmentation was cancelled, most contractors threatened to abandon projects and even went to the National Assembly to lobby and whip up sentiments.

‘’However, we were quick to notify the National Assembly that the policy was that of Mr. President and if contractors were not willing to comply, offers would be made to reputable Chinese companies to take over the projects. On this note, contractors returned to site,’’ he added.
