Erhiatake Ibori may be contesting for a seat in the Delta State House of Assembly to represent Ethiope West Constituency.

She is said to be one of the daughters of former governor Delta State governor, James Ibori.

This was confirmed by a poster reportedly displaying her intention at strategic places in the state.
The poster did not indicate the party she may be contesting under, neither does it show the sponsors.

It would be recalled that her father, James Ibori, had been sentenced to 13 years in jail in 2012 on 10 counts of conspiracy to defraud and money laundering in the UK

All effort to reach her for confirmation proved abortive as calls put through to her were not going through.

Following a protest to pressure University of Jos management to reverse its decision to increase fees, four students of the higher institution in Plateau State were on Tuesday shot by yet-to-be identified security operatives which has led to the closure of the institution by the school authority.

The spokesman of the Special Task Force (STF) on peace in Jos, Captain Ikedichi Iwela, confirmed the incident, saying: “Four students were shot by unidentified security operatives while the students were protesting.”


He added: “The injured students are currently receiving treatment at the STF Clinic at the force’s headquarters.
“We had to rush them to our clinic for treatment because government hospitals are currently on strike. The injured students are responding to treatment.”


He denied the involvement of the task force in the shooting.

Similarly, the police have also exonerated its men, saying the Force had nothing to do with the shooting.

The state Police Commissioner, Nasiru Oki, said: “When we got the news of the protest, we immediately deployed our men in the scene to protect public properties and to forestall any breakdown of law and order, but none of our men fired any shot.”

Thousands of students of the university had started a protest on Monday, shutting down academic activities and demanding the reversal of the decision of the management of the institution to increase their development levy.

President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), Abel Nok Du, had said the students were agitated by the increase of their levies.

“We are calling for the removal of the N10, 000 development levies from our school fees. We are also calling for the reduction of N25, 000 acceptance fees for admitted students.

“As I’m talking to you now, most of our properties have been destroyed as a result of our position-standing between the students and the school authorities,” the students’ union leader said.

Du disclosed that: “The SUG met with the school authority and resolved that the examinations would start yesterday, but the students were adamant and accused us of compromise, and therefore destroyed our properties.”

But the management of the university denied the allegation. The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Hayward Mufuyai, told the students to disregard the rumours being peddled that the management intends to review school charges.

A federal judge who on Monday struck out terrorism charges against Aminu Oguche, the suspected mastermind of the Nyanya bomb attack in Abuja, said his decision was based on lack of "diligent prosecution by the state".

In a ruling Monday in Abuja, the judge cancelled a two-count charge instituted by the federal government over the April 2014 attack which killed more than 70 people.
Mr. Ogwuche, a suspected Boko Haram member, was accused by the Nigerian government of being behind the attack. The blast at the Nyanya Motor Park occurred during morning peak hours as residents were hurrying to work.

The government said Mr. Ogwuche fled to Sudan after coordinating the attack.

He was later repatriated to Nigeria to face charges.

The Nigerian police had filed a two-count charge against Mr. Ogwuche, but the case could not proceed due to bickering between the police and the State Security Service, SSS.

At the resumed hearing Monday, the prosecution counsel was absent from the court.

"This criminal charge is hereby struck out for want of diligent prosecution by the complainant, Inspector General of Police and his prosecutor," the judge ruled.

The judge did not however order Mr. Ogwuche's release, an indication the state could file fresh charges against him.

But Mr. Ogwuche has already challenged his continued detention, asking the court to compel the SSS to release him or charge him anew.

On Monday, the judge also granted an oral application by his lawyer, Ahmed Raji, to allow Mr. Ogwuche's family members visit him.

The judge ordered that two family members, and three attorneys from Mr. Raji's chamber, be allowed to see the suspected bomber.

The application was not opposed by the counsels representing the SSS, Clifford Osagie, and the Attorney General of the Federation, Taiwo Abidogun.

The judge also ruled that Mr. Ogwuche be given medical care while in custody, and if need be, be referred to the National Hospital.

The application on his continued detention will be heard December 5.

President Goodluck Jonathan monday felicitated with Chief Hannah Dideolu Awolowo on her 99th birthday anniversary billed for tuesday.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, Jonathan and his family joined millions of admirers of the late nationalist, renowned political leader and sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, in wishing his “Jewel of Inestimable Value” a very happy birthday celebrations.

The president prayed that God Almighty will grant Mrs. Awolowo many more years of worthy service as the matriarch and moral compass of the great Awolowo political dynasty which continues to play a commendable role in national development and progress.

The president said he was looking forward to personally participating in the celebration of Mrs. Awolowo’s landmark 100th birthday next year to honour the highly-revered spouse of one of Nigeria’s famous founding fathers.

The total debt of the Federal Government and the 36 states of the federation as well as the Federal Capital Territory now stands at N10.84trn, the Debt Management Office has said.

Statistics obtained from the DMO in Abuja on Monday showed that the total debt as of September 30 is higher than the total debt of the country as of September 30, 2013 by 30.29 per cent.
As of September 30, 2013, the total debt of the three tiers of government stood at N8.32trn. This, however, excluded the domestic debt of the states which was included in the current debt status of the country.

Details of the current debt status of the country showed that the external debts of both the Federal and state government stood at $9.52bn or N1.48trn.

As of September 30, the domestic debt stock of the Federal Government alone stood at $49.12bn or N7.65trn. The domestic debt of states, on the other hand, stood at $10.97bn or N1.71trn.

In comparison, the external debt of both the federal and state governments stood at N1.28trn (or $8.26bn) as of September 30, 2023. Also, the domestic debt of the Federal Government a year ago stood at N7.03trn.

Dissecting the Federal Government’s current domestic debt of N7.65trn by instruments, the Federal Government Bond contributed N4.6trn or 60.12 per cent to the profile; Nigerian Treasury Bills contributed N2.74trn or 35.76 per cent while Treasury Bonds contributed N315.39bn or 4.12 per cent.

As of June 2014, out of a total external debt of $3.01bn owed by the states, the Lagos State Government owed $1.02bn.

Other major holders of the country’s external sub-national debts included Kaduna State which owes $245.51m and Cross Rivers State, $120.21m. Others are Ogun State, $116.69m; Bauchi State, $111.61m; and Oyo State, $80.11m.

The states least exposed to foreign debts included Borno, $16.07m; Plateau, $22.99m; Taraba, $24.06m; Delta, $24.7m and Benue, $28.79m.

However, in comparison to the nation’s total external indebtedness, the states owed only 32.13 per cent; leaving the Federal Government with 67.87 per cent.

Loans from China Export Import Bank and monies raised from Eurobond accounted for $2.54bn of the Federal Government’s $6.36bn external debt while multilateral sources accounted for $3.82bn.

As of June 2013, the nation’s total external loan stood at $6.92bn. This means that over a period of one year, the country’s external debt rose by $2.46bn showing 35.51 per cent increase.

The growth of the nation’s debt stock can be seen in the budget for debt servicing. The Federal Government plans to spend N2.08tn servicing the country’s debt within the next three years.

The figures for debt servicing as well as the county’s debt stock are contained in the Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper of the Federal Government.

The document stated that while N591.76bn was utilised in servicing the nation’s debt in 2013, the sum of N712bn, N684bn and N684bn would be used for the 2014, 2015 and 2016 fiscal periods respectively.

It was complete anarchy over the weekend in the sleepy town of Oka-Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government Area
of Ondo State as a truck belonging to a manufacturing company crushed two residents of the town to death.

The community youths, who were said to have been angry over the incident, allegedly burnt 10 houses, motorcycles and cars including the truck that hit the deceased.
It was learnt that the truck which was said to be on a high speed had earlier over taken some vehicles before it crushed the two deceased who were on a motorcycle.


An eyewitness, Mr. Wale Gidado told DAILY POST that the incident occurred in the late hour of the evening and the driver of the truck, in attempt to escape with the vehicle was caught by the youths.

It was not clear if the driver of the truck escaped being lynched as a mob of people descended on him when he made attempt to escape from the scene of the accident.

Gidado, who claimed to be a community leader in the town lamented over the serial killing of the residents of the community due to numerous numbers of trucks plying the route.

However, it took the intervention of the traditional ruler and men of the security operatives, who cautioned the aggrieved youths before normally was restored.

In the 1980s, Kamala the Ugandan Giant was one of the most feared wrestlers in what was then known as the WWF. Today, he's a double amputee struggling to make ends meet.

The video below, produced by Bleacher Report, shows James Harris (a.k.a. Kamala) as he copes with the loss of both legs to diabetes.

The 6-foot-7 Mississippi native also recalls his decision to go into wrestling, done almost on a whim after he couldn't find a job.

"They told me wrestling wasn't real the day before I got in the ring," said Harris.

Wrestling star and promoter Jerry Lawler created the character he would portray: a Ugandan giant.

"I've never been to Uganda," Harris said with a laugh.

Harris would eventually go toe-to-toe with some of the biggest names in the sport, including Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant. But he said he never made as much money as his fellow superstars.

"I wish things had worked out better for me. I believe the reason I got done that way is because I'm just a poor boy from down south in Mississippi. If I had been a better talker -- you have to negotiate -- that probably would've helped me."



But Harris isn't after pity.

"I don't want people to feel sorry for me," he said. "Because I'm still Kamala."

But Kamala needs help. Harris' wife was recently laid off. And shortly after the video was recorded, Harris was hospitalized with a severe stomach infection, Bleacher Report writer Jason King wrote in the comments section of a GoFundMe page set up by a fan to help the former wrestler.

A message on the Kamala Facebook page notes he has been in the hospital for about two weeks.

"Kamala was hoping to get out of the hospital yesterday, but his blood sugar dropped," a message posted Thursday morning said. "He's doing better than even a few days ago, but they are still holding onto him."

Along with donating via GoFundMe, King noted that fans can help by purchasing Harris' upcoming book, "Kamala Speaks."

I have a dear friend who was once vivacious and cheerful. As a teenage girl, she had a promising future. She was beautiful, warm, smart and talented. She dated a lot and was widely admired. 2. He is willing to get his hands dirty

When the car stalls or the gutters need cleaned, it's sure handy to have a manly guy around. Even if your guy isn't a skilled mechanic or handyman, it's nice to have someone who will dig in and not shy away from hard work.

A guy with a strong work ethic will teach your children the value of hard work. Don't settle for someone lazy or someone who won't pitch in to help maintain your home. A man who extends a helping hand to others is someone worthy of your love, too.

3. He isn't in love with himself

Steer clear of the guy who moons over himself. You know — the guy who never saw a mirror he didn't like.

Who wants to spend her life with a vain man? It's fine to want to look nice, and no one wants to be with a slob — but pay attention to your man's ego and make sure he's not a slave to fashion (for example, too hipster) or his physique. You don't want a selfish or narcissistic hubby.

4. He is honest

When you've snagged an honest man, you can be assured of several things. Your husband won't be unfaithful to you. He'll be true to his co-workers, boss, friends and family members. He'll be upfront in his financial dealings. When he makes mistakes, he won't hide them from you because he is a man of honor.

You'll enjoy peace of mind and feel more secure in your marriage with an honest man.

Each of these four attributes points to another attribute: humility. Find and marry someone who is humble, because he will regard you more highly than himself.

About 15 persons have been confirmed to have lost their lives in a ghastly accident that occurred yesterday at Oji River in Enugu State.

The public relations officer of the state police command, Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the deadly accident, said it occurred along the old Onitsha road.

He disclosed that the command has so far evacuated 15 dead bodies, disclosing that the mishap occurred when the driver of a truck lost control.
Amaraizu added that the truck ran into a Toyota mini-bus that was conveying people to different destinations, killing no fewer that 15 of them.

He stated that the driver of the truck has been arrested, adding that the command had commenced investigation into the ugly development.

“No fewer than I5 corpses have been recovered with the driver and conductor of the said truck arrested,” he stated.

Nine persons have been confirmed dead in an army helicopter crash in Thailand, the military officials said on Tuesday.

The Army spokesman, Col. Winthai Suvaree told newsmen in Bangkok.

He said that the Deputy Commander of the Third army, Maj.-Gen. Songphol Thongjeen, was among those killed when the helicopter went down in Phayao province 700 kilometres north of Bangkok on Monday.

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday partially upheld a no-case submission by Femi Fani-Kayode, and acquitted him of 38 out of 40 counts of money laundering charges.
Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, was charged on an amended 40 count charge, bordering on the alleged offence.
He is beng prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
