Pope slams Trump for ‘unacceptable’ threats against Iran
Pope Leo has criticised Donald Trump for his existential threats against Iran hours before the US president’s deadline.

“Today, as we all know, there was this threat against all the people of Iran. This is truly unacceptable,” he said as he left his country house in Castel Gandolfo, Italy, south of Rome.

Pope Leo, the head of the global Catholic Church, was referring to Trump’s post where he said “a whole civilization will die” if Iran doesn’t open the Strait of Hormuz.

Pope Leo, who has emerged as an outspoken critic of the Iran war, called on people across the world to contact their political representatives and ask them to ‌bring the expanding regional conflict to an ‌end.

Earlier today, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops released a statement calling for Trump to “step back from the precipice of war and negotiate a just settlement for the sake of peace”.

Pakistan’s PM asks Trump to extend Iran deadline for two weeks

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appealed to Trump to push back his deadline for an Iran deal by two weeks and for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz during the same period, saying ongoing diplomatic efforts are promising and should run their course.

“Diplomatic efforts for peaceful settlement of the ongoing war in the Middle East are progressing steadily, strongly and powerfully with the potential to lead to substantive results in near future,” Sharif wrote in a post on X. “To allow diplomacy to run its course, I earnestly request President Trump to extend the deadline for two weeks.”

Sharif also called on Tehran to open the Strait of Hormuz for the same two weeks “as a goodwill gesture”.

“We also urge all warring parties to observe a ceasefire everywhere for two weeks to allow diplomacy to achieve conclusive termination of war, in the interest of long-term peace and stability in the region,” he added.

I don't like Trump for one thing, though. He talks too much and doesn't back much of his blabs with action. Give Netanyahu his position and the whole of Iran would have been flat by now.

Man keeps issuing ultimatums and doing nothing much to show for it. Not saying he's not trying but his talks are much more than his actions. He's a wuss, to be fairly honest.
