Iranian drone responsible for attack that killed French soldier, says commanding officer An Iranian Shahed drone was used in a strike in Iraq’s Erbil region that killed a French soldier and injured several others, said French Colonel Francois-Xavier de la Chesnay. The French soldier, 42-year-old Arnaud Frion, was “killed by a Shahed drone strike on the position where he was located”, de la Chesnay was quoted as saying in the AFP news agency. He is the first French soldier to be killed in the ongoing conflict. |

Rescue efforts continue for remaining crew from crashed US refuelling aircraft US CENTCOM says rescue efforts are continuing for the remaining crew of the KC-135 refuelling aircraft that went down in western Iraq. In addition to confirming the death of four crew members, it said the loss of the aircraft “was not due to hostile fire or friendly fire”. The identities of the service members were being withheld until 24 hours after their families had been notified. In a previous statement, US CENTCOM had said two aircraft had been involved in the incident, with the second landing safely. |
Turkish-owned ship clears Strait of Hormuz with Iran’s permission: Turkish minister Turkiye’s Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu says a Turkish-owned ship has passed the Strait of Hormuz after receiving approval from Iran. Uraloglu was quoted by local media as saying the ship is one of 15 Turkish-owned vessels waiting near Iran that Ankara has been in contact with Tehran about. “Fifteen ships [with Turkish owners] were there; we obtained permission from the Iranian authorities for one of them, which had used an Iranian port, and it passed,” Uraloglu said, according to news website Haberturk. |
