PDP ARE DOOMED TO FAIL |

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday faulted a claim by the All Progressives Congress that his Thursday visit to Lagos was to coordinate rigging plans for the Peoples Democratic Party in the Saturday governorship election. He wondered why he would rig the governorship election for the PDP when he did not rig the March 28 presidential election in which he was a candidate. Jonathan’s position was contained in a statement made available to journalists by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati. Abati insisted that there was nothing unusual in people paying homage to the President when he is on a visit to Lagos or any other part of the country. He said the APC spokesman lied as usual and was rude to insinuate that Jonathan met with people in Lagos for the purpose of rigging the elections. The presidential spokesman said Muhammed and his paymasters were only cooking up meaningless tales in order to change the commendation Jonathan had received across the globe for conceding defeat in the presidential election. He said, “Lai Muhammed is wrong to say that the President came to Lagos to rig the governorship and State House of Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, April 11. He is of course lying as usual. And rude. “President Jonathan visited Lagos. He arrived on Thursday and left on Friday. People visited him. So what? Anytime the President is in Lagos or any part of the country, a lot of people come to pay homage to him. “Nothing unusual happened during his last visit to Lagos. Senator Musiliu Obanikoro’s visit to the President in Lagos is not something that anybody should use to play politics. Koro is a Minister of the Federal Republic. He came to see his boss. “Mr. Jimi Agbaje is the governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos. I don’t see how his visit to the President, who is also the leader of his party, the PDP, should become an issue. “Yes, Gani Adams also visited, but so did a lot of other people.” Abati added that the President did not hold meetings with INEC officials, neither did he meet with the police, polling officials or with anybody who is involved in organising elections. He said to claim that the President went to Lagos to supervise the rigging of Saturday’s election was most uncharitable and cruel. “After the presidential election, the President immediately congratulated Gen. Buhari and the whole world has commended him for saving Nigeria. “President Jonathan’s sportsmanship, statesmanship and leadership saved this country at that critical moment. He has demonstrated his commitment to free and fair election, the rule of law and due process. He has shown that he is a man of character, honour and integrity. Nigerians generally are proud of him. “He has left a worthy legacy and shown a great example. That, obviously, is the narrative that Lai Muhammed and his masters want to change, so they are now cooking up meaningless tales. “Lai Muhammed should look for another target and leave the President alone. His fatuous tale does not make any sense. I repeat: we will like to advise that the APC should just leave the President alone. “President Jonathan was a candidate in the presidential election; he did not rig the election. Why would he want to rig tomorrow’s elections? he added. http://www.punchng.com/news/my-lagos-visit-not-to-rig-for-agbaje-jonathan/ |

Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has lamented that he was betrayed by friends and close aides, adducing this as the major reason for his defeat during the Presidential and National Assembly elections. Suswam contested the Benue North-East Senatorial seat but was roundly defeated by the incumbent Senator, Barnabas Gemade. He stated this on Friday at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Makurdi, the state capital, while assenting the the bills on Chieftaincy Affairs and Revenue Enhancement, presented to him the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Terseer Ayua. He said, “I was betrayed by friends, even people close to me during the election, which made me lost. I think I have learnt from that and, for me, the permanent thing in life is change.” According to him, the nation’s political landscape is fast growing since opposition is able to defeat the incumbent at various levels, which, he added, was historic. Suswam stressed that he had put the loss behind him in order to allow peace to continue to reign in the state. He noted that politicians should learn to conduct themselves in a manner that would enhance the entrenchment of democratic values. He explained that people should not take defeat as rejection. . http://www.punchng.com/news/poll-defeat-my-friends-betrayed-me-says-suswam/ . |

Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, said he had information that the All Progressives Congress in the state is plotting with security agencies postpone Saturday’s election in the state. The former Minister of State for Education, who made the comment at a peace meeting between him and the APC candidate, Dakuku Peterside, organised by the Commissioner of Police in Rivers, Hossiah Karma, said the PDP and all its supporters would resist any such move. Wike said, “We need assurance that the security agencies and the APC are not planning to postpone the governorship election. We also need assurance that the security agencies and the APC are not planning to do something that will lead to the cancellation of the election that may lead to the election being conducted again under Buhari’s administration. “Our Chairman, Felix Obuah, was threatened on Tuesday night by some persons, who told him that he could not hide. We are fully prepared for the election. If they like, let them bring the chairman of APC to conduct the election, we will still win,” he said at the meeting attended by service commanders and prominent politicians from across both camps in the state. Chairman of the APC in Rivers, Dr. Davies Ikanya, said they had lost confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission boss in the state, Mrs. Gecila Khan, to conduct Saturday’s governorship poll as a result of her support for the PDP. Ikanya accused Khan of recruiting PDP members as INEC ad-hoc staff, who in turn, manipulated results in favour of the party. he said, “The APC wants the security agencies to take a roll call of the 26,009 ad-hoc staff which INEC in Rivers State is using to conduct the election, so that we can properly identify the genuine youth corpers . We are saying that the REC has allowed the PDP to smuggle the names of its members into the list of ad-hoc staff. “Mrs. Khan has repeatedly turned down our request to verify the list of the ad-hoc staff. She has substituted 50 per cent of the original names with members of the PDP. At the presidential election, we did not see result sheets. How can there be peace when she has bluntly refused to listen to our complaints.” The Rivers Police commissioner called on all parties to ensure a peaceful exercise on Saturday. Anyone caught fomenting trouble, he warned, would be heavily dealt with. He warned uniformed officers, not on duty, not to appear in their regalia on Saturday as doing so would earn them severe punishment. . . http://www.punchng.com/news/apc-security-agents-plan-to-postpone-rivers-election-wike/ |
For Nigeria to have a better change in the new dispensation, the UmuadaNdi-Igbo in Diaspora, an umbrella organization of Igbo women, abroad, has tasked the President-elect, Gen. MuhammaduBuhari on eleven-point agenda. The group in a congratulatory message signed by its Founder/National President, Grace Agude, among other things, urged the President-Elect to compose a cabinet of skilled, experienced and trusted men and women for a better Nigeria. According to her, the new government should take urgent steps to encourage women participation in government and national development, since women are mothers of the nation. Making the case for re-organization and better funding of the Nigerian army so as to bring back the lost pride and glory of the country’s military that was once the pride of Africa, she said that the incoming government must take steps to wipe out Boko Haram insurgents currently terrorizing Nigeria. Insisting that the new administration must take all necessary steps to bring back our kidnapped Chibok girls, the UmuadaNdi-Igbo leader stated that there was an urgent need to stamp out 419 and other forms of fraud in Nigeria, for Nigeria to attract both local and foreign investors. The group according to her also pushed for improved funding for Nigerian universities, teaching hospitals, and other institutions, so as to encourage research and development. “We want the incoming government to make plans to diversify the Nigerian economy. This way the Nigerian economy will not continue to rely heavily on oil like is currently the case”, she said. For the country to be one, she said that there was urgent need to unite the six geopolitical zones of the country so as to reduce tension among different ethnic groups. She further urged the incoming government to encourage foreign investment which will go a long way in creating employment and growing the country’s Gross Domestic Product, GDP. Assuring that UmuadaNdi-Igbo in Diaspora will give their unalloyed support for the new government to work, she noted that, “The People of Nigeria have spoken very loud and clear. We needed a change, and you are that change. Thank God, that much anticipated political change has come in the most peaceful manner ever imagined in our beloved country that has a long history of post-election violence. This victory was definitely not a smooth ride. “However, you met the challenge with determination, strength, and total confidence. The people of Nigeria saw how determined you have been to provide solutions to the most troubling problems facing our great country widespread corruption, insecurity, poverty; deteriorating standards of education, healthcare delivery and non-existent utilities. “It has simply been very difficult for Nigerians and the world at large to understand why there has been so much poverty and chaos in a country well blessed with abundance of natural and human resources. “The proud and hard-working people of Nigeria have, through the ballot box, identified you as the man who can be trusted with bringing that much needed change to Nigeria , Africa’s last hope. “There is no doubt that the task ahead is a huge one. However, with good focus, determination, hard work, dedication to office, and above all, with God’s guidance and blessings, it can be done. Yes, it can be done”. . http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/04/igbo-women-abroad-tasks-buhari-on-11-point-agenda/ |
Abuja: A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday refused to halt the impeachment proceeding being spearheaded by the Ekiti State House of Assembly against Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and his deputy, Kolapo Olusola. The impeachment proceeding notice is said to have been served on the governor and his deputy by the 19 All Progressives Congress members, who have been at loggerheads with the governor since he came on board last October. Although Fayose has been working with only six members of the PDP in the House, the APC lawmakers, which the governor does not recognise, returned to the state this week with an impeachment notice, prompting the closure of the House of Assembly by security agents. . . http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/04/judge-declines-stoppage-of-fayoses-impeachment-proceeding/ |

The Peoples Democratic Party has told its members that it is immoral for them to leave the party few days after it lost the presidential election to the main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress. The party said though it recongnised the right of anyone to freely associate with any political party of his choice, it nevertheless said doing so at this particular time was immoral. National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr, Olisa Metuh, stated this while answering questions from journalists in Abuja on Tuesday over the gale of defection that is hitting the party across the country. Metuh wondered what those who have left the ruling party in the last few days after losing the presidential election would teach their children in term of morals. He said, “It is right for anyone to defect or move because the Constitution allows for free association. But basically, it is immoral for someone to leave his party because we lost the presidential election few days ago. “It is about the character. Yes, you have the constitutional right to move or defect, but what lesson do you want to teach your children? “Just because we have lost the presidential election? Yes, we want members (in our party) but not fiddle-minded people. “We want people who are committed, but the fair weather people are free to leave us. Those who are committed will still be with us.” On the emergence of Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) as the President-elect, Metuh promised that his party would cooperate with him in running the country. He however said the party was not interested in working with the incoming president. “We are not interested in working with him, but we will cooperate with him to have a united country,” he added. He also refused to make a categorical statement on whether the party would challenge the victory of the APC at the election petition tribunal. Metuh also accused the APC of trying to stifle opposition and impose a one-party system and complete totalitarian rule in the country. He said reports reaching the party from across the country indicated that “the APC has been desperately seeking ways to destabilise our ranks and weaken our formations by approaching some senior members of our National Executive Committee with phantom promises and threats ostensibly to use them to inject crisis in our fold and pave the way for our elected members to cross over to APC. “Furthermore, the PDP has it on good authority that part of this agenda of the APC is to intimidate and harass our members especially officials who served under our administration.” He, however, refused to give the names of such officials who he alleged were being forced to join the APC or members of the opposition who were behind the alleged threat. Metuh said the party under the national leadership of its National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu would do everything within the law to protect those who served under the present administration. . . http://www.punchng.com/news/it-is-immoral-to-defect-pdp-tells-members/ |
