isthatso: if you had a brain and somebody is telling you he is losing 3 trillion naira from imported textiles, when we had a thriving textile industry in the north and our youths are now jobless, you will figure out that this is an opportunity to revive our textile industry and put our youths to work.
your youth are unemployed because the jobs from all the closed textile mills in Nigeria have been exported abroad and you are there saying they should open border? if the business in legitimate why dont they use the sea port?
......but maybe you dont Haba brother.... Geography... has it been eliminated from school curricula now? |

Notatribalist: The timing of the border closure is bad, but the idea is good. Those products you are importing from Mali are they made in Mali? Probably a foreign company produces it in Mali with Nigeria market as mail target. That's the issue the gorverment is trying to solve. Let the companies come and Establish in Nigeria and create jobs for our people. Why will they come and start any company here... a country where hordes of other companies are running away? the roads are bad, consistent power is almost non-existent, clearing your goods cost almost the cost of purchase and shipping? It'd be better the government fixes these ills at first. if despite the enabling environment, they still refuse to site their production facilities here, then it becomes a matter of economic sabotage and should be fought to a standstill. My main fear is that three to four years is too short a time for anyone to start a company and expect to attain profitability. Whoever risks it to borrow and begin local production of these same banned goods now, the same person may not find the environment so encouraging after this current dispensation ends. |

nototribalist: Una go suffer this Christmas, our borders are closed for life. Thieves.
Ghana and South Africa are two xenophobic countries that we will use this border closure to deal with. Fools Remember we also had a Ghana must go episode Now we know we're stronger than that. They will also now know we can deal |
Politics › Re: Border Closure: Northern Textile Traders Say They Stand To Lose Over N3 Trillion by Japhet31: 1:02pm On Nov 03, 2019 |
BUSINESSARENAA: The product am bringing from Mali is from Mali. The hides is from camels skin, I go to Mali and join them in roasting it, with fire and then later with the high intensity sun found in the area, its not something you just come and buy ready made , if not they will sell rubbish to you, as you won't get the desired quality, so to a large extent, I am involved in the processing of those hides and skin.
This is also a raw materials for other finished goods in Nigeria that are exported, that's the irony of the whole thing.
This policy is a poor policy, it is not good for the economy of the nation. I feel your pain brother.. lets pray they rethink the idea or at least streamline it to rice ban alone |

netpro: Some people like illegality. If you wish to continue in business, import your materials through the proper channels. Which right channels? People pay up to 700 - 900 thousand Naira for clearance on a vehicle they paid about 800k to buy and ship down? some goods attract demurrage. Shipping also doesn't make sense for goods tat are sourced in countries that are close to our land borders. |

Chubhie: To imagine that customs went to town celebrating that they made 3 billion daily by shutting the border. Why not get smart scanners and search for arms and rice instead of shutting down the whole economy of West Africa?
This crude approach have no place in a modern society. This is counter productive both in the short, medium and long terms. I totally agree with you on thus.. hopefully we'll come up with a better plan soon |

BarristerAlarig: Good day japhet. I was hoping to apply for a one year top up degree program in mechanical engineering from St Monica University, Cameroon.
How does the council view top up degree from Africa countries?? I know that top up degrees from the UK are Recognized by the council as long as the program was a full-time program and wasn't done online.
Information regarding those with HND and a top up degree from an African university is very scarce. Actually, for now you can apply and sit for the COREN interview with your HND. However, that loophole will no longer be available starting from next year. and as for Top up Degrees, why not do it in Nigeria? I know a few Universities (no all private) who run run top-up programs here |

It is no fault of the innocent indigenes of Chibok that there village/community got attacked. They lost their daughters, sisters during the previous attack on a school some years ago.
Sympathize with them, pray for them. This is the only love we can extend to them as they too are fellow Nigerians, our brothers and sisters. Yes o... we and our selective amnesia in this country. |

grandstar: Many would have felt Dangote was allowed to victimise Ibeto because Ibeto was Igbo which wasn't the reason why. Now, with his behind the scenes attack on BUA, it is obvious it is has no ethnic twist. Strictly business, in a land with weak institutions and endemic corruption. You're the first person I am reading, who understands the case Jarus was trying to build. Lets hope others also see that point..in good in time |

Jarus: I have a longstanding personal resolve to fight the tendency of Nigerians to introduce tribal slants to business disagreements between people of different tribes. The news advances the arguments I have always made. I have the right to use it.
You are not the one to tell me the angle to choose to comment in a piece of news. Without a deeper thought, one may be conclude that you were being ethnic about the matter whereas you were only saying to note the intra-tribal nature of this fracas. I have always said it that a businessman's first loyalty is to profit. Things such as ethnicity, blood relation etc all come after profit. |

slowice: This one sounds like a 16yo..... Really? This too is some sort of ethnic victimization by some people who think they re more "northerner " than others. Those who believe they own this country and can do whatever they want. You should be outrage as a person rather than spin ethnic bashing into this. I think you misinterpreted him (Jarus). In my opinion, he was trying to warn against alluding most anti-free trade machinations/moves as ethnic. rather, to see some of such for what they are, pure profitism |

Sleevia: Well, Igbos have had their survival threatened so much that things are not threat are perceived as such...
Dangote is not fit to be called an entrepreneur if he can't compete favourably.
What happens when he dies?, instead of focusing on building a system that will sustain his business and fortify it, he chose to witch-hunt perceived enemies.
Haba... Abeg this one no be entrepreneur at all. You're stating the obvious truth here |
