Well, irrespective of the motive, I think Soludo spoke well. He is qualified to comment on the economy-after all IBB's men like Olu Falae, Kalu Idika Kalu still pass comments on the economy.
If I were Sanusi, I will keep quiet and not talk, but if asked by pressmen, I will also remind Soludo that the situation might not be this bad if he had also acted rightly, when the signs began to show.

You and me can also do something.
Use every opportunity to push the cause: facebook profiles, facebook messages, text messages, convince your friends and family, especially those that are usually not interested in politics before, they are easy to convince. Start from voters registration, ensure your people register, and guide them to booth on election day. At least, I'm delivering 20 votes for Ribadu.
Politics › Re: Nairalanders for Ribadu Assembly(NRA) by Jarus(op): 12:50pm On Sep 22, 2010
Another voting bloc Ribadu can make use of are the students - universities, polytechnics, COEs etc. He should target this class, set-up robust campaign team in each and evry institution, align with SUGs. It should start from voters registration exercise. Mobilize students to register en masse. We can get 5 million votes from students, if well harnessed.

Civil society groups also appear to favour Ribadu - Soyinka, Falana etc. Ex-NBA president was also talking on OAU campus yseterday, endorsing Ribadu. These are areas Ribadu team can tap into.

Tinubu is another asset from him. Even Atiku that was not a good product like Ribadu, Tinubu delivered Lagos to him. Lagos is a walk-over for Ribadu. This opportunity should be maximized.

North is his main problem to me. He needs to strategize on making in-roads to the North, especially the masses. He has stepped on so many feet to penetrate northern oligarch.

Scenario 2:
PDP - GEJ
CPC - Buhari
ANPP - IBB (IBB will surely contest on another platform, even if he loses PDP primary)
AC - Ribadu

GEJ will stand a great chance undre this scenario. North will be shared almost equally between Buhari, IBB and GEJ, South West between GEJ and Ribadu, and South South a walk-over for GEJ, and South East, GEJ is mostly likely to cop majority with IBB also pulling some votes. Ribadu may perform here too.

If this is the eventual scenario, then except Ribadu and Buhari can come together, it will be difficult to defeat GEJ.
Politics › Re: Nairalanders for Ribadu Assembly(NRA) by Jarus(op): 9:52am On Sep 22, 2010
BANANA PEEL FOR PDP
The good news for us supporters of Ribadu is that IBB is giving GEJ a good fight, and if Saraki, Atiku and GEJ, step down for him, and he eventually clinches PDP ticket, celebration can begin. GEJ is a better sell among the general voters than IBB.

Let's consider this as final scenario:
PDP - IBB
AC - Ribadu
CPC - Buhari

Under this scenario:
North will be divided between the three, with Buhari likely to pick the highest votes and IBB coming second, and Ribadu third
South West: Ribadu likely first, IBB second and Buhari third
East: Ribadu and IBB has equal chance of pulling majority votes here, and Buhari third, or even another unpopular candidate may come before Buhari, as he is quite unpopular here.

It may end a close call, but Ribadu has a great chance under this scenario.

This is the best scenario for Ribadu. Let's hope PDP make the mistake of fielding IBB.
Politics › Re: Nairalanders for Ribadu Assembly(NRA) by Jarus(op): 9:39am On Sep 22, 2010
From the situation of things in the country now, let me analyse the candidates by voting blocs and patterns:

NORTHERN ELITE AND POLITICIANS: Ribadu doesn't appear to have strong support here. They are shared majorly between IBB and GEJ. If GEJ should get the ticket, which is very likely, I don't see the IBB, Atiku, Gusau and Saraki supporters backing GEJ. This means the votes/support among these northern power brokers will be divided. Of the lot, only IBB may go ahead and contest on another platform. Atiku, Gusau and Saraki may back out, but most likely will not support Ribadu.

NORTHERN MASSES: Buhari has it here, especially in the core North. In the middle belt, GEJ and IBB are also popular. Unfortunately, Ribadu is also not popular here.

SOUTHWEST - ELITE AND POLITICIANS: GEJ has a string base here too, but Ribadu will give them a run for their money.

SOUTH-WEST - MASSES: This is between Ribadu and GEJ too.

SOUTH-SOUTH:: This is GEJ's territory

SOUTH-EAST
: IBB and GEJ are making in-roads here too, especially among the politicians.

In 1999, although I rooted for Olu Falae, but I did not vote because I was under-age then. In 2003, I did not vote because it was obviously a one-horse race for Obj. In 2007, I did not vote although I acknowledged Yar'adua was the best of the lot.

Unlike 2003 and 2007, it doesn't look like a one-horse race and I believe efforts should be worthwhile this time around, that is why I'm coming out to, for the first time in my life, campaign for a candidate.

The following are the reasons I believe dislodging PDP is doable this time around:

•-We expect INEC leadership to conduct what should be close to free and fair election this time around, rigging should be minimal
•-GEJ doesn't appear to have the liver of Obj to militarize the whole process and crush opposition
•-PDP doesn't have a formidable presidential candidate - GEJ, IBB, Atiku?
•-Obj, their strongest man, even if still powerful, cannot be as influential as he was while in power.
Politics › Nairalanders for Ribadu Assembly(NRA) by Jarus(op): 9:04am On Sep 22, 2010
All supporters of Ribadu are invited here to come here and discuss strategies on actualizing the dislodgment of PDP in 2011, and how we can go beyond online talk and contribute our quota to a Ribadu presidency.

Let's analyse issues here and map out strategy.

We can do it.

NB: Before I'm reminded that I'm the moderator and expected to be neutral, let me state that there is nothing that says a Mod should be neutral in political debates. I'm doing this in my personal capacity as a forum member, not as a Mod. I am entitled to my personal opinions. What is prohibited is using Mod privilege to support a candidate like stickying this topic, using PM to campaign, unjustly frustrating threads on other candidates etc, which I promise I will never do. So supporters of other aspirants are also allowed to come together and mobilize for their candidates.

There are various aspects of accounting. I handle Fixed Assets Accounting for my organization and I have full knowledge of Fixed Assets Accounting, but it is very narrow.
I also handle Tax, which is more interesting and diverse. I enjoy Tax more.

So you may ask questions about these two areas and others.

I hated Accounting when I was in secondary and even university. But when I got an Accounting job after school I had no option than to like it.
My primary preference is Economic and policy analysis, as I have an eye for CBN, DMO or any organization I can use my economic knowledge knowledge more, but the current challenge is most of these organizations can't pay me what my current O&G coy pays me. So I need to make more dough before moving to my dream organization. grin. I also have in bag doing my Msc Economics & Finance from University of Durham, UK, after which I can make the decisive move.

Even after more than 2 years of doing accounting job, I have never given thought to switching my career to Accounting. I don't want to establish a career as an accountant but the good thing is all the experience I'm gaining will be useful for me later.

Politics › Alao Akala's Faux Pas @ GEJ's Declaration by Jarus(op): 7:40am On Sep 22, 2010
Governor Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo state is one governor I have never come across anybody that has any good thing to say about. And I have had several discussions that bordered on politics with many residents and indigenes of Oyo state. In a poll put up on the politics section of Nairaland.com, Nigeria’s largest online discussion forum, the Ogbomosho-born governor carried the day as the most detestable chief executive of a state in Nigeria. I can sieve out the politically less relevant issue of his looks harped on by many of the contributors to that discussion.  This piece is also not on his poor performance cited by many contributors to the debate, given the fact that almost all the governors fail performance test, and singling him out, especially when one is not into political rivalry with him, may not be fair enough.  A very embarrassing statement he made at the Goodluck Jonathan presidential declaration is the crux of this article.

Playing with words and abbreviations is an acceptable practice in politics the world over. Depending on the creativity of the originator, such beautifully crafted words, statements or acronyms can be used as an effective tool of propaganda by opposition. It may also be used by a political group to gain acceptance. Some leave you guessing, some are glaring, but you can’t but acknowledge the ingenuity of the formulators of those words. Every political dispensation throws up many of such words, at every level.

In the current political situation, we have heard a statement like ‘if you have patience, you have Goodluck’, which doesn’t put you in doubt about where the maker of the statement belongs and the message embedded therein. In the build-up to his formal declaration, the Nuhu Ribadu campaign team, stylishly played with his NR initials to pass a message across, while keeping watchers guessing. No Rigging(NR) was among the words used.

The opposition too have gone to the word craft board, twisting words and acronyms to pass negative messages about their opponents. If you come across Ibrahim ‘Badluck’ Babangida as the full meaning of IBB in some online, informal media, you need not ask where the writer belongs.

Perhaps, it was in an attempt to flaunt his ‘creativity’ too, that the former police officer governor of Oyo state committed a school boy blunder that made me almost switch off my TV set while watching the President Jonathan’s declaration at Eagles Square in Abuja from my home.

Hear him: “……, Jonathan Ebele Goodluck Azikwe, JEGA. Jonathan is JEGA, JEGA is Jonathan. If you happy and you know, say JEGA! JEGA!”  What was Akala insinuating by this puerile composition? Does he know the message he was sending by that statement? As I listened to him thuggishly staggering on the podium, uttering the dumbest statement I have ever heard live from a state governor(I only read about Governor Barkin Zuwo of Kano state’s famous ‘Fanta and Coke as minerals’ statement), I shook my head and pitied not only Oyo state, but Nigeria as a whole.

For the records, that was not the first time I will hear President Jonathan’s names shortened as JEGA. I have heard it from anti-Jonathan campaigners as a propaganda message, leaving us to guess the implication. But how will somebody claiming to drum support for Jonathan tell us that ‘Jonathan is Jega and Jega is Jonathan’? Was he trying to tell us that Jonathan has INEC Chairman, Jega, in his pockets? I wonder what will be going on in the INEC Chairman’s mind when watching that programme. I am sure even the sitting President Jonathan, who so far appears to be committed to an independent electoral commission, will not appreciate such a mis-campaign, or to use the words of online Nigerians, pouring sands in his(GEJ’s) garri.

The most disturbing part was that the governor, obviously sincerely rooting for Jonathan and not one of the tongue-in-the-cheek speakers, gleefully made the ranting, totally oblivious of the message he was passing across. What a shame! While disturbing my brain to imagine the reason for that unimaginable show of shame, only one thing came to my mind: other governors had exhausted the praise-songs before it got to his turn, and he had little time to think and compose a fresh one, hence the gaffe. But a simple ‘Up Jonathan’, or if he wanted to be ‘creatively’ different, give audience the assignment of shouting ‘100 gbosa for Jonathan’,  and leave the stage would have saved him this faux pas.

Many people have advocated psychiatric test for people seeking political offices in Nigeria. I honestly think an IQ test is necessary at this time. In a state populated by highly educated and sophisticated men and women as Oyo, having such a man as governor is a disaster. But this is what you get where politics of roguery and hooliganism reign.

I have been waiting for an analysis like this for long. it looks close to reality. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
Much as I don't want PDP, I think their greatest mistake will be to field any candidate other then GEJ. It's easier to defeat IBB in national election than GEJ. Incumbency factor will matters, plus the fact that IBB may be popular among PDP delegates and full time politicians, but he is a hard sell among the general populace, North and South.
In any case, if there can be some agreement between Buhari and Ribadu, then even GEJ will be given a run for his incumbency factor.

NEWS I FIRST GOT FROM NAIRALAND
1, GANI'S DEATH: August 2009 - I just landed in Kaduna after a 40-minute trip from Zaria, and I opened NL to see news of Gani's death. I screamed, made calls to friends, only to be told it's all over news now.

2, MARYAM BABANGIDA'S DEATH: First heard this line too from NL as a breaking news.

THE GOOD:
Highly informative, and take it or leave it, NL is intellectually rich. I have gained a lot from this site, learned new words, better arguing skills, know a lot about many people and places, made a number of off-NL friends, finds a companion in NL in otherwise dull moments.

THE BAD
Highly addictive and puts me in tight deadline corner in office many times.

The PTF awarded contracts in the south, the only problem was those the contracts were awarded to people who chopped the money, one of the PTF contracts was the dualization of the Ibadan - Ilesha road, that was a 120Km road awarded by the PTF to RCC. The man who really ran the PTF was a Benin man, why did he not influence more projects towards the south. I believe the PH - Enugu expressway was also meant to be upgraded then, but, the guy given the contracts did not do a good job.

Kindly explain why you said pat utomi is better than GEJ? Is it about patito's gang? what has he managed that has not crumbled. please be straight forward here.
He is not tied to any OBJ, can take independent decisions, more assertive

I have said it before and i will repeat, Buhari remains good as a northern president and not a nigerian president of northern extraction(note the difference). His days as PTF helsman speak volumes to watchers like us from the south.
What did he do? People say more of PTF projects are directed to the north. I will like to have specific comparison of how those projects were distributed.

Ribadu did well in EFCC ,but has a very dangerous temperament for an office as high as the president of this country. Besides, as important as the anti-corruption war is, it does not cover all our very critical calls as a nation. Besides he has said he does not care about the integrity of his backers as the money they will donate will not be for his personal use. This in my view is discounts his major selling point. Now tell me if he will still have the will to prosecute some of these known thieves if he gets voted in
I believe he should. He has shown passion for the progress of this country more than anybody. If Tinubu sponsors him, there is absolutely no problem with that. There is virtually no single political personality that doesn't have a tainted record. Should he now say because of that he doesnt want to associate with any party/politician?The Tinubus of this world are still better than the GEJ backers. At least, we saw his works in Lagos, even if he embezzled too.

@ poster, let me give you another clue:

Dig your soak-aways as early as the project begins, then the sands dug out from them can be used in filling while doing the foundation. This reduces the number of lorries of sands you will need to be at foundation stage. You can see the ditch in front of the BQ in my picture 2. The sands dug out from there was used to partly fill the main building foundation. My project supervisor did that idea.

Also, like somebody mentioned, if you are doing it from Lagos, make sure the person in charge in your village is very trustworthy and has time to supervise. Let them account for every kobo spent. 18 bags of cement did a disappearing act in my case, but my supervisor was able to detect. Some workmen connived and played smart.
