PhonesRe: Oukitel C2 Hands-on Review, Best Budget Smartphone So Far. by Jascon4: 10:19am On Mar 27, 2016
eMqeror:
The C2 model might not have the best screen nor a big battery capacity, but from its price tag, its very clear that the C2 model is well targeted for those who wouldn’t want to break the bank to own a smartphone. Despite coming at low price tag of 60 USD (NGN12,500), the oukitel C2 still holds some cool features in store and for some reasons, it was showcased in the massive spotlight of the world’s biggest mobile expo – the MWC in Barcelona.

Without any further talk, lets dive into details and see what the Rainbow Kisser brings on board in terms of smartphone.

Unboxing;

Inside the box of the Oukitel C2 you’ll find the C2 device that was accompanied by a USB type C cord, a 5V/1A charger, 1,800 mAh battery, the warranty certificate, the user guide and an original 3.5 mm jack headphone that was missing in the box of the k4000 pro. Unfortunately, a protective rubber case has refused to ship with the phone but I believe that won’t be needed.

The Oukitel C2 felt incredibly light sleek, even with the battery on. Though the device doesn’t weigh that much, having a total weight of just 115 grams, the dimensions are 133.0 x 66.5 x 9.0 mm.

Design;

The general design of the C2 is really great but certainly not an award winner, it features a plastic unibody design which is something we regularly see in mid-range smartphones. The plastic cover is smoothly finished which gives it a more comfortable feel in the hand but lesser grip. The Oukitel C2 is provided in four different cool colours: Blue, White, Gold and Gray.

Power/Lock and volume adjustment keys can be found by the right hand side of the phone,at the top is the 3.5 mm jack audio port for headphones laying next to the micro USB port.The loud speaker is located below at the back while only the micro phone can be found at the bottom side of the phone.

Three are three action buttons just below the screen; Home, Menu and Back button, and above the screen is the call speaker and the front facing camera as there is no proximity sensor or notification light in this device. The screen has about 3.0 mm side bezels which is not for a mid-ranger.

Display;

Apart from the battery section, the display department is also where Oukitel have been very impressive, despite having a resolution of just 480p, the display present in the Oukitel C2 is somewhat brilliant, the colours came out very bold, clear and vibrant, although there is a barely noticeable tint of white towards yellow in the display just as we saw in the K4000 pro. The C2 does not support 3D display and has on two fingers multitouch detection.

The C2 has a resolution of 480 by 854 pixels with 240 pixel per-square inch (PPI) which is just fitting for its 4.5 inches screen. Just before you start asking, the screen of the C2 is not tampered and is therefore breakable, there is no protection from scratch on this one so the pre-installed screen guard will be very handy.

OS And Processor;

The oukitel C2 is running android 5.1 lollipop out of the box, another win in my book, date for a marshmallow update is not yet scheduled but we hope it will be available. The User interface in the C2 is quite lag-free, it operates smoothly even when we had more opened apps.

It also features Smart Gestures like: Double tap to wake, slide up to unlock, slide down to camera, draw ‘M’ to start music and so on but double tap to slide up to unlock, slide down to camera, draw ‘M’ to start music and so on but double tap to sleep is not available, the gestures responded quite faster than expected. There is no ‘Gesture Motion’ and ‘Smart Somatosensory’ features that we also saw in the K4000 pro.

Powering this device is a 1.3Ghz Quad Core CPU with MediaTek MT6580 processors which makes the phone faster in terms of processing. A much expected 1GB RAM is on board with a native storage of 8GB but only 4GB is available for the user, However the storage can be further expanded up to 32GB with a micro SD card.

Camera;
Oukitel C2 won’t be the best choice for those that will love to get the best out every shot, the device hosts a 5 mega pixels front and back shutters, it sports a single LED flash at the back. The flash didn’t come out bright when we tried taking a picture with it in a darker condition but it did help a bit.

Focusing on an image with the C2 camera is difficult as the camera has no autofocus features, most images taken with the phone came blur while some look just good, or something lesser than good.

The camera features HDR, Face detection, Smile detection and voice capture where you can take shots by just saying “Cheese” or “Capture”, a new and interesting feature. Both the rear and front camera can capture up to 3072 by 1728 pixel images and also supports video recording.

Sound;

Sound produced from the speakers of the Oukitel C2 is worth mentioning, it was really beyond my expectations, the sound from the C2 is very loud enough and clear – even better than what we normally see in some high-end smartphones. The call speaker at the other is also very loud and clear during call.

Connectivity;

There is no 4G connectivity option in this device but it supports dual SIM standby with two dedicated micro SIM slots. Network bands are; HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100 for 3G and GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 for 2G, It also supports Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi direct, bluetooth v4, A-GPS and microUSB v 2.0. There is a Threaded message format available, IM, Emails, Push mail and MMS are also available.

Battery;

The Oukitel C2 didn’t perform well in the battery department, it houses a 1,800 mAh of battery juice which is at the same time higher than the 1,400 mAh we had in the former Oukitel C1. The rainbow kisser has a battery saving mode that will help you get more from every charge.

It didn’t come with a fast charger as that won’t be needed, it took approximately 2hr 30 min to fully charge from 0% with its 5V/1A output charger. The battery has a standby of 48 hours and talk time of 11hrs with 3G, when we tried playing a car race game with the device, the battery discharged 14% in about 29 minutes, certainly not for gamers and hard users.

Conclusion;

Oukitel C2 is obviously not a record breaker in any form but it is well targeted for those that wants to own an OKAY android devices and wouldn’t want throw in much for that. The overall performance and user experience of this device is quite impressive and coming at a price of just 60 USD (12,500) makes it worth looking out for.

I totally get your point but for how long are we continuously going to follow the drill. No student should be allowed to hit another student cause that only instills violence. If the prefect in question had reported her to a teacher, she would have been caned or punished by the teacher and made to carry the chair, this thing would have not escalated to this. Schools should ban senior students from hitting their juniors cause it makes them callous. This prefect was asked to slap her again later and she gave her four dirty slaps. Why? Cause she already harbour hatred in her heart for the girl. If you ask me, I'll say the prefect was at fault, she was given the post cause she was perceived as a leader. Would a good leader do what she did? We need to start curtailing these excesses from the root, that prefect will become a President tomorrow and think she can slap her subjects anyhow without any regards to their feeling. This is the same school habit that our leaders of today passed through and we can see how they are treating us like plagues cause they don't care about us. Believe me there is a way she would have asked the girl to carry the chair and the girl would oblige, how about carrying the chair together with her? A better leader is trained that way.
Well thought out and sensible comment, I had to give you the 'like'. Wish I can like it more.

And then some will come to insult Buhari.

I always ask myself that what exactly is wrong with those attacking Buhari and his working policies?this is a man sanitizing Nigeria, ONE DAY at a time, and so far Nigeria is working.

For those against Buhari's Government, please and please, go for a Psycho-Analysis test just to determine if every part of you as a Human, functions very well.

Once again, Buhari Government Saving Nigeria and Nigerians money from THIEVES.

Did you by any change infer that he initiated the BVN programme?

Because some unskilled user can mess with the root folder and brick their devices... root is basically a folder that contains all the files(codes) that makes your Android Device work, from the software to booting up your device to basically doing anything in the user interface like touching the screen to pull a widget etc, the root folder would be locked down and hidden by the manufacturers to prevent you from messing things up and also protecting you from some malicious apps that you install from unknown sources sneak into your root and control your device thereby becoming a malware or virus...

Gaining root access (unlocking the root folder to be able to modify/add and access contents of the folder) will give you super power over your device... and make you do things that you thought were impossible, you can look up Google on some powerful benefits of rooting your device, some of the benefits are: ability to install custom roms like cynogenmod(updates you to the latest android version if you use a device that does not update your os e.g tecno, gionee, infinix etc), xposed framework, greenify battery saver and other powerful stuffs...

Disadvantages: Voids warranty? ... (you can always unroot and get back warranty)
Damage/brick device? you can always backup your stock rom and restore your device... you see? sweet!!! tongue

You can like our page as a way of appreciating my effort for typing all this @ http://Facebook.com/tunerobrainz cheesy
Awesome! I will do that. Thank you for the invaluable info.

Rooting is like unlocking a door... with root you can do anything you want with your device with no restrictions at all, e.g you can install greenify (to help save your battery to it's maximum potential), you can install custom roms and you can use a virtual ram to increase your ram... the possibilities are endless wink
Sounds good! However, if it's that advantageous, why don't the phone manufacturers make their device come rooted. More so, what's the downside?

Just go for Tecno L5 because am using it now.
Why am saying this is that I just handed my Goinee M3 mini to my wife after using it for four days simply because I got a L5 for my wife initially and decided to test run it for a day while she held mine for that day,but couldn't give it back to her because I found L5 better in terms of battery life and Memory inbuilt and smoothness,the only pro about the L5 is that it is not as fast as the M3 mini.
Da, amedo sure ke L5 ado afon Akan M3?

It amazes me how people will suggest phones with such ugly rough screen.
How the hell is you gon suggest a screen with resolution less than 245ppi. What do you care about battery, processor if they are average then you get a hd 720p, 294ppi screen. Think of viewing hd games, movies. Xciting. Alcatel popstar
You mean alcatel pop star is the better of them all?

Rooting on android is just like attaining admin level and permission on windows. M3mini doesn't have a oneclick root option yet, but it can be rooted by using the recovery method which requires a pc.
That's enlightening! I appreciate that, though it still leaves more to be desired. Will pursue more info
