I'm worried about the much I read so far. The man either doesn't have a Masters degree or he did not complete the National Youth Service Corp (which is equally serious! ). So, which is it? How can he be CBN boss with either first degree or dogded NYSC?
He can't win either way. cool
Onlytruth, if found to be true, I can pity the country. This was a man that was using all the "grammar" on TV to convince Nigerians why subsidy must go, yet, he will not have a degree in Economics? Why was he put there in the first place? Let me guess, QUOTA SYSTEM! This is what is killing Nigeria! Instead of competence, we go for ethnicity and religion! PoliticsFG Moves To Boost Gas Supply To Power Plants by jason123(op): 5:27am On Apr 24, 2012
By Oscarline Onwuemenyi
ABUJA —The Federal Government, yesterday, announced a series of emergency interventions to address the challenge of gas supply to power plants across the country, in its bid to ensure an efficient power generation and supply system.

Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, who made the announcement at a media briefing in Abuja, said the short-term interventions would result in almost 90 per cent of the outstanding shortfall to power being addressed over the next 12 months.

She noted that since 2005, when the National Integrated Power Projects, NIPPs, were kicked off, there had been no alignment between the planned NIPPs and the necessary gas supply to power them.

She said: “Today, the challenge of gas supply is essentially localised around the Western axis, as we currently have a situation of excess gas availability in the Eastern axis. As we speak, there is over 300mmcf/d (equivalent of about 1000 mega watts) worth of gas available in the Eastern axis but currently not utilised.

“This is due mainly to the aforementioned misalignment and also the underperformance of existing PHCN power plants. As we develop the East-West pipeline, we will be able to leverage this gas in the West.”

The minister said in total, 800mmcf/d of gas was being produced in the Western axis of which 520mmcf/ is deployed to the power sector (an equivalent of about 1800MW on average). The balance is supplied to domestic manufacturing industries such as the cement plants, etc, and the West African Gas Pipeline project.

She noted: “In total, over the next 12 months, we will be adding 500mmcf/d (equivalent to 2000MW) to the grid. This will have a direct major impact on the overall power situation in the country.

“Specifically, about 180mmcf/d (about 700MW) of this additional 500mmcf/d is due within a few weeks, by June 2012. This will come from Escravos, Utorogu, Ughelli and Oredo. Ongoing activities such as laying of the Olorunsogo pipeline, the completion of the ELPS A pipeline and the completion of the NIPP pipeline around Oredo are key elements of this addition.”

According to her, these projects are all in very advanced stages and should be completed within the timeframe, adding that with the addition, the identified shortfall in supply to Sapele, Geregu and Olorunsogo power plants will be addressed.

She noted that, “Beyond the immediate timeframe, the balance of about 320mmcf/d (about 1300MW) will be delivered through the next 12 months. New power plants are continually coming on stream, therefore, in addition to the 180mmcf/d, a further 320mmcf/d will be delivered and deployed to these plants over the next 12 months.”

She said to achieve the 320mmcf/d, a few critical projects will be deployed by the intervention team, including leveraging the excess processing capacity in PanOcean to process gas that will be re-routed from Oredo by NPDC, as well as accessing additional gas at Escravos and major expansion of the Utorogu hub.

“These are the projects that will collectively add 320mmcf/d (1300MW) over the 12-month period. I am confident that the steps we are taking will have a visible impact on gas sustainability and supply, and therefore will positively impact on the power aspiration of the nation,” Alison-Madueke noted.

The Minister further stressed that the government had directed the deployment of a pragmatic contracting strategy to enable expedited procurement of critical items such as the line pipes and related accessories.

“These interventions will require additional funding which is being sourced through governemnt’s public-private funding initiative, she added.

Alison-Madueke said appropriate steps are being taken by the Power sector to address all outstanding debts and commit to payment for future gas supply as well as other terms stipulated in the gas supply agreements (GSA)

wtf?

I wrote a conference paper. Then wrote a journal paper which was an expanded version of the same thing. The journal is in fact published, and references the conference paper.

Since the journal was a superset of the contents of the conference, of course they'll contain the same plots. Would make no sense to regenerate the simulations...

I am not an experimental scientist like you (you are a crop production dude, iirc) where running a biology experiment is the main contribution of the paper...

Simulations demonstrate the empirical performance of what you developed, and aren't the key aspect.

Anyways..
Dapo, drop it man. It's not worth it (arguing with Nchara).

What has this got to do with tribalism? I'm still trying very hard to see the tribal angle of plagiarism committed by the Central Bank Governor of Nigeria.
The man failed SEVERALLY to show intellectual honesty by giving credit to original owners of materials he cited.
I can even feel the pains of Prof Victor E. Dike who I think would have let this slide had Sanusi not continued to plagiarise his works.
The man is even being very enlightened and polished by suing only for commensurate injury. In US he probably would have also sued for punitive injury.

Jason and Rhino, can you people ever grow brains?

Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo was NEVER engaged in any form of plagiarism, neither did Phillip Emeagwali. FACT.

Please don't derail this thread that can potentially ensure that half baked people never made it to sensitive national positions of responsibility.
Thank you! cool

You are free to claim anything with your mouth, in your website, or in your home. Emeagwali lives in America, the land of law and order; if he had committed any fraud, he will be sued and imprisoned or fined. Has any of those happened? Try again.
So as not to derail the thread. I'll let this sly! Guys, just try to be more honest and OBJECTIVE when next you criticize people.

Onlytruth: In all honesty, I believe that Sanusi is a product of a bad school. I find it hard to believe that someone like him would intentionally steal academic materials. I've seen a lot of that in Nigerian academic articles.
The so called academics we have in Nigeria are yet to understand the gravity of this offense.

I learned the lesson when a lecturer (here in the US) gave me a "C" score on an "A" paper simply because I failed to use the very citation style she wanted us to use (not that I didn't even cite it). I forgot to use the TURABIAN style of Note-Bibliography citation, and instead used the "Reference" style; that was it! Now, imagine what would have happend if I mis-cited or failed to cite at all. All hell would have been let loose.

Sanusi should go back to school! cool
You have just proved that the problem in Nigeria is TRIBALISM! When Nairalanders were calling Philip Emeaguali a fraud! You said, "Nigeria cannot develop because they do not value their own, they always pull their own down . . etc". Now because it's Sanusi and not an Igbo man, Emeaguali, you are here shouting "gravity of this offense". Did you not think about "gravity of this offense" when we have an alleged FRAUDSTER on our National post stamp?! Talk about hypocrisy that STINKS to the high heavens!

OP
Most what you read here are from a woman's point of view except this:

taryour: do u tok back at ur husband when he is angry? Do u take to corections wen he corects u or u keep repeting d same thing? Does he drink or smoke? Wot are dose things u do to make him beat u and send him out of d house?do u prepare his food on time? Do u nag?do u deny him sex?
The key word is: DO YOU TAKE TO CORRECTION WHENEVER YOU HAVE YOUR TALKS WITH HIM? As a guy, it can be frustrating when you have to correct your spouse especially after you two have been together for so long . . .it would seem as if you are deliberately trying to frustrate him.

Woman, your husband LOVES you! Take that from me! Now, he wants you to love him back by not frustrating him. Once he corrects you, take it to heart and work on it. I am sure when he sees your "EFFORT" in that aspect, he will not touch you again, not to talk of beat you! If you think he does not love you and you move out or do shakara. Trust me, MANY other women will take your place and actually work on themselves to make their him happy!

About working to start contributing to the home: It does not change a thing! If you try to frustrate him by not taking to correction or talk back because you now earn, he will be more frustrated! Be a submissive woman and he will shower you with more love! God bless!

Remember, he loves you o! Don't ruin your marriage! Take care and may the Lord give you wisdom!

Beaf: It does not take money to develop the right mindset. Ghana is poorer than Nigeria, but such primitive behaviour cannot be attempted there; it is also quite clear that while Ghanaian society has a sense of direction and is developing; we here seem to be going backwards with the average person appearing to be quite stup!d compared to what obtains in neighbouring countries.

I have had many illuminating conversations with mechanics in Benin Republic and Ghana, but absolutely do not expect any sense from those in Nigeria. The organisation of workshops in Benin Republic and Ghana is totally different to what obtains in Nigeria as well. Do I need to say they do a better job? Nuff said.

The mind of the average Nigerian is diseased. Perhaps it is the trauma from too many military regimes. Whatever it is, we must realise that mental problems exist in almost every Nigerian. I do not see how we can develop without tackling this basic issue. Development comes from the collective mind of society.
So your conclusion is; changing the way we display meat will lead to change in our mind sets and hence, development?
Can Benin citizens attribute their development to change in the way they kill their livestock? No! Same with Ghana. Yes, I agree with you on "the change in mind set" bit. But no, I don't see how our unique way of killing and displaying meat will change our mind set! Every Christmas in Nigeria, I witnessed how chickens were slaughtered by "small boys". Does that mean they will grow up to be criminals? Or their mind set has been altered? Certainly not. Now, someone else is doing the killing (which they already know how to do), how can this be adverse to the society?!

We have OUR way of barbequing our meat! I love it and I am sure most people do. Let's leave it at that. They are unique and different! We cannot change everything about us, our culture and traditions just because we want to be whiter than the white man. If we cannot be advanced because we kill our meat the way we want so be it.

ogugua88: The "Nigerian flavor" Jason's referring to is carcinogens.
Beaf: Exactly! Carcinogens spiced and flavoured with e koli and typhus from faecal remains clinging to hands unwashed after a bend down over the nearest secluded drain.
Abeg, leave that thing! cheesy
Can you compare the cancer rate in Nigeria to that in "advanced countries"?
Beaf, actually processed meat contains more faecal remains than unprocessed meat.
Evidence:

When animals are slaughtered and processed (the meat is cut up and packaged), several dangerous elements come into play. The first is the presence of fecal matter from slaughtered animals, which can contaminate meat with high levels of bacteria such as E. coli. Other sanitation lapses can also contaminate food, as can other animal diseases like salmonella and campylobacter. Another food safety hazard is the risk from mad cow disease (a key step to preventing humans from contracting the disease is the proper removal of risky nervous system materials from the beef supply). And in addition to these food safety risks, the use of hazardous machinery and sharp knives can injure workers when mistakes are made.

http://www.sustainabletable.org/issues/processing/

Slaughter of cattle and pigs is executed by plant workers, not machines. At more than 300 cattle slaughtered per hour, and
more than 1,000 pigs slaughtered every hour, the spread of feces is unavoidable.[90] Organs are torn and their contents
spilled. Feces are smeared and splattered. Because feces may have already spread from one cow to another during transport,
when cattle undergo the dehiding process, additional fecal contamination can result. Further, because pigs’ hides are not
removed during the slaughter process, they are put through a communal scalding tank, similar to the defeathering tank for
chickens. Thus, contaminated carcasses are put in the same water with all other carcasses, potentially infecting the
uncontaminated ones.

Beaf: Anybody doing that in most other developing countries would be jailed, talkless of in advanced countries.
The fact that you can see no wrong in it is very telling of Nigerian society and its decay.
And must we copy them? Why can't we have our own way of doing things (with slight modifications, as you so wish)? Why can't we be Nigerians without looking over our shoulders to see what the "advanced" countries are doing?

In Malaysia, an advanced country by Nigerians' standard, still do these things. Does it mean the people are mentally sick?

FoodRe: Roasted Chicken Sold Openly In Lagos: Where Are Our Standards? by jason123: 2:24am On Apr 24, 2012
Beaf: Development comes from state of the mind. If the mind has no standards, how is it ever going to be creative and focused to precision?
I wonder what you think comes out of the minds of those who sell roasted chicken skewered in the open by the roadside? Advanced algorithms? High tech? What? angry
Well first of all, for them to be selling those stuffs they are probably uneducated and trying to make ends meet. Therefore you do not expect them to be thinking of "advanced algorithms" because, frankly, its the last thing on their minds.

It takes money to get the facilities you are looking for. The people I see up there probably do not have the money for such.

Lastly, I still don't see how this relates to development. The animal get killed anyway and it is consumed, anyway. I wonder how changing the "style" will equate to advancing Nigeria.

I repeat, open barbeque Nigerian style (kudos to the Northerners for that) gives it a unique taste and feeling you can't get anywhere in the world!
