manny4life: It's unfortunate how we come to conclusions without asking necessary questions... Like seriously, let me ask you GAR3TH claimed that PH had 13,000 Pax annually, here are my questions to all these arm and chair critics?

A. Since we know the annual pax of PH to be 13,000, what are the economic, political and financial factors mitigating against PH airport?

B. If any, do these factors "severely" have an impact on potential airlines from flying into the airports which has a direct impact on the Pax capacity?

C. If any, what are potential solutions to put a resolve on how to improve performance of PH airports.
Manny4life, most Igbo traders [b]NEED/b] Lagos because it offers them 18 million customers. Onitsha and co do not offer them such a large market. As the saying goes, "if everyone is a trader who will buy"?

Yes, they have an impact because a trader needs his/her goods close to where its sold. The closer it is to the customers, the cheaper the overall cost and the better.

Patronage-but you have to ask yourself, who will patronise it if majority his target customers are not there?
Manny, Lagos is mini-Nigeria. There is no better way to get your goods across to Nigeria without Lagos. Why is Lagos like this you ask? It is because of her multiethnic population and density. These factors we cannot control.

If new airports are built, three for that matter, it will be a white elephant project. Mark my words. No animosity but ONE still makes sense instead of THREE. Onlytruth is simply using emotions to judge his decisions.
PoliticsRe: South East Nigeria Needs Three International Airports by jason123: 6:14pm On Mar 29, 2012
Gareth is on point. If the nearest airport to the SE, PH airport, is not fully utilised; how would THREE airports in the SE be? Really, we should start thinking! Its just so unfortunate that people already hold contempt in their hearts so any comment from a non-SEasterner is seen as an "enemy's comment".

At those supporting the importation of the vehicular parts to Nigeria just to be assembled, I have just one question. Is ONE part of this vehicle produced in Nigeria or is it just a "Lego construction"?

If no part is produced in Nigeria, then its no different from what we already have in Nigeria. Moreover, is this not a smart way for companies to reduce or evade tax in Nigeria by slapping the "made in Nigeria" tag on it?

Nevertheless, nice one Anambra and Innoson!

@Chino

Most southern cities are like that. You display a form of superiority complex that is very irritating even to your kinsmen. What is in Onitsha/anambra sef? undecided

Isn't this Onitcha?

As Afam said, it should not be based on population but even at that, is three not too much when I hear people can tour the SE within 2 hrs? C'mon guys, its ridiculous.

We either upgrading the existing ones or build one solid one. Three is absurd!
PoliticsRe: South East Nigeria Needs Three International Airports by jason123: 12:20pm On Mar 28, 2012
GAR3TH: Why 3? Port harcourt and Enugu international are enough to serve the 15 million or so people living in the south east. Why not just upgrade those two airports instead of building new ones just a couple of miles away. You also have Calabar, Asaba and the airport in Imo, once again you can just upgrade those airports so they can have international flights.

Second enugu international airport has a yearly passenger traffic of 270,000* [all domestic]** people and port harcourt international has a yearly traffic of 850,000* people out of which only 13,000 were international flights according to FAAN. Compare that to Lagos which has a yearly traffic of 6,300,000 people.***

You cant justify building 3 airports in an area were international flight demands are low. Why not build something that will actaully give you return on your investment such as road or a rail way. There is no reason to build 3 new airports when the current ones dont even receive that much traffic. Like someone else said all this seems to be chest beating just so you can say the south east has 3 airports. but are the airports viable? cant those billions being spent be put to good use in other sectors?

* 2009 stats, airports were closed in 2010 and following years for renovation.

** No international carrier has flights from enugu international airport [lack of demand just like port harcourt?]

***2010 stats
Well said!

Mr. Globe:
Its funny how only the people who are against an international airports in the SE are only yoruba folks. Lmaoo. talk of being intimidated. International airports in SE with definitely drag down traffic at lagos airport whose passengers are MORE igbo. The yorubas that travel only travel to uk. And one bigot even brought out a statistics claming the cave he calls SW (apart from Lagos) are economically viable than SE. What an irony. Another said ondo has more billionaires than SE, sorry Anambra? What a big Fo-ol! Is there anything like innosen motor factory in SW? Why is there not an Intl airport in a state that hosts it, a refinery and great industry/commerce. I want to give you yoruba folks an agenda to focus on... Start campaigning against Soludo as governor of Anambra State in 2014 because he is bringing an Intl airport to the state..... Cowardic disciples of awo
Bia! Its like you guys enjoy this tribal e-war. Apart from Dayokanu, shymmex and Eko0ile; how yorubas do you see here? Gareth is Edo, Ocelot2006 is from Akwa-Ibom, Otokx is from Rivers state, wirinet is from Delta. So, eff-off when people are having intelligent discussions!

Bruv, you already have one though. In fact, three basically. They are Akanu Ibiam airport in Enugu, though the other two are in the SS but they are of close proximity, they are, Port harcourt international airport and Asaba international airport.

You also have Sam Mbakwe airport in Imo.

Dude, building three airports withing those 5 states in the SE, coupled with what they already have is senseless to say the least.

The SE governors have to take advantage of what they have and upgrade not build more.
PoliticsRe: South East Nigeria Needs Three International Airports by jason123: 2:48am On Mar 28, 2012
Onlytruth: Let me just address the bolded LIE which has been repeated countlessly by enemies of Ndigbo to continue to cheat us out of our fair entitlements in Nigeria. Why not make SE smaller than the whole of Bayelsa? You idiots think that lies endure for ever.
Let me tell you, it would take about 100 Niger states to equate ONE SE state in ECONOMIC potentials. cool FACT.
. . . and that is all there is to it, "a potential". When are you going to learn to be honest with yourself? What is with all this chest-beating? I was talking in terms of land mass and population density.
Btw, in case you have forgotten the map of Nigeria. There you go:

https://www.theodora.com/maps/new4/nigeria2.gif

Apart from Lagos, the whole of SW is not able to compete with Anambra alone if we get our fair share of federal government infrastructure such as airports.
Now that I have situated your warped head properly, you can now go on to keep deceiving those who are still in the dark.
Oh really? Why talk of the entire SW when I can simply put out one state. Does Oyo state have an international airport? Yet its economy is larger and generates more money internally than at least 3 or 4 SE states. Remember, there is no oil in Oyo.

SE Nigeria needs THREE international airports to liberate our economy. If you can build international airports inside deserts which only serve Islamic pilgrims, you can build for areas that can actually generate revenue for Nigeria.
I repeat, why stop at THREE? Why not FIFTY? You once told me on this forum that Nigeria can never develop if we keep politisicig issues such as this. Onlytruth, what are you doing now? Certainly, all three airport will NOT be viable, so why suggest three? One good one, yes but two? three? its pointless . . . How many zones have more than 2 good airports?
If memory serves me right. The SW has 1 good one in Lagos; SS, the best is in Rivers state, hence just 1 good one; The SE has Akanu Ibiam International Airport, hence 1 good one. The MB/NC has 1 good one in Niger/minna (Abuja is the FCT); The NW has 1 I think and the NE has none (you can correct me).

You can build it for areas that can put Nigeria on the world map of manufacturing and invention. cool
Onlytruth, what you typed above is insulting to your fellow countrymen. Are you saying other people are not good enough. The way I see it is, the SE economic team should upgrade the Enugu airport, if you think its needed badly.
PoliticsRe: South East Nigeria Needs Three International Airports by jason123: 1:27am On Mar 28, 2012
Onlytruth, you should not have asked for 3 airport, why not 20 airports? undecided

What would three airports do that Asaba airport (at its full potential) cannot do?

You were the one that was talking about river-niger dredging. Now that that is done, what economic value has that added to onitsha? We keep wasting money on IRRELIVANT things in Nigeria.
Not to sound condescending, take a look at the size of the SE. Do you think building 3 airport within Niger state (Niger state alone is at least 2.5 times bigger than the entire SE) assuming the same population density; would make sense?? undecided

Do you think building an airport IN the SE is essential in jump starting economic activities there? What is wrong with Asaba airport? Moreover, has the so called "sea port" or "river-port" in Onitsha increase the economic activities in Onitsha and the SE?

And please, stop this 50% of airport user are igbo propaganda, abeg!

In my humble opinion, I think the SE should be looking at a rail way and a second Niger-bridge while collaborating with neigbouring states such as Rivers on access to the international market.

I just hope what you sent was not one-sided cause I know people of your caliber are very myopic and hence, will only send the Igbo bashing threads. Yes o! Bro when I see pictures like this, it awakens a passion inside me. I have also seen the CCTV cameras in Enugu, how is that working? We need a database in Nigeria.

Left to me, I'll group certain states together and form a group of super states. They are Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, AI, Enugu,Imo and CR (I purposely did not add delta among others).

These are the states, I feel, are a class of their own. Its like they know what they want and they are going for it.

Please, continue to update whenever you can . . .

Nice one Gareth. Onlytruth knows what he is doing, he has his agenda. Do not take the insults to heart, this is Nairaland, remember?

How in the world can one equate this map:

To this:

Onlytruth, how can you compare these two maps and say your map is 98% consistent with the map I provided. I believe we all have a sense of orientation and perspective. I humbly say your map forcefully included some extra Igbo land. The only one I believe are the inclusion of the Igbos in Rivers. Even at that, that will only occur if they (those Igbo clans) believe they are actually Igbo. I don't know much about these people (I only have one Opobo friend and we are close)but judging from what I have heard and seen online, I do not think they'll agree to be Igbo. Remember, I do not know much about them so I can't authoritatively base what I think of them because of my friend's opinion.

This is the strict map of a the true "delta" in Nigeria.

So, tell me how Uhrobos, Itsekiris and co are not Niger-deltans but somehow, Igbos are?
PoliticsRe: Biafra Minus Niger Delta by jason123: 4:08am On Mar 25, 2012
Onlytruth: But it is true! undecided
Take a look at your map. If I post my own more detailed map you would see that Igbo groups in Rivers state and Abia state are CORE Niger deltans.
They cannot be uprooted to suit your twisted definition whereby peripheral tribes like yours would claim it more than we.
We would never allow you to do that. cool
Who and what exactly are the "Core Niger-deltans"huh
